Metis yayınlarından çıkan önemli bir bilim kurgu kitabı.. Alvin Toffler'ın Future Shock ve Third Wave adlı futurist araştırma kitaplarından ismini alan bu harika eser siberpunk'ın atalarından sayılıyor. Ama daha ziyade punk'ın olmadığı sadece siber kısmının yer aldığı bir ortam düşünün. Distopik bir gelecek, kirli bir hükümet ve bilgisayar yerine telefon kullanan hackerlar.... 

1975 yılında basılan kitabın olduğu zamanda bilgisayarlar yerine tuşlu telefonlar daha popülerdi. Nixon'ın istifası ve Şili devlet başkanı Allende'nin öldürüldüğü günlerin ardında yazılan romanda bu iki konuya ilişkin göndermeler de mevcut. Benim asıl ilgimi çeken konulardan birisi romanın yazıldığı dönemde virüs,trojan gibi kavramların bilinmediği halde Brunner'ın tapeworm (tenya,kurt,solucan) kavramını bugünkü teknolojik terminolojide yer alan anlamında kullanmış oluşu. Gerçi çevirmen bunu bağırsak kurdu olarak çevirmiş ama bilim kurgu çevirilerinde artık bu tür tuhaf çevirilere rastlamak pek şaşırtmıyor beni.... Romanda, geleceğe ait çizilen tablo bugünküne oldukça benziyor.

 Ben çok beğendim, tüm bilim kurgu ve futurist konulara ilgili olanlara tavsiye ederim. Romanda yer alan Fencing Game(eskrim değil) adlı oyunu da bu vesile ile öğrenmiş oldum bu arada, oldukça ilginç bir oyun...
