John is really going through The Horrors because imagine getting the news that your best friend (who is also the man you’ve been unrequitedly in love with for decades) is dead lost at sea and now you have to marry his widow because that’s the only way to protect her in the middle of a war, so you marry her out of convenience but you two end up having sex (even though you are gay) because the both of you are grief stricken and drunk af, but wait!, her husband is actually NOT DEAD, he is back and now you have the unpleasant task to tell him what happened when he was allegedly dead, and when you do, he beats the shit out of you because, well, you slept with his wife, but mostly because you told him you were both fucking HIM in your minds, so now you are all beaten and ragged, with an injured eye and taken as a prisoner, and, as if all of that wasn’t enough, you run into your ex from 20 years ago and find yourself pondering whether you should kill him or fuck him nasty.
