tell me, why is lord john not allowed to mourn jamie? why do you people have such a problem with this man expressing his love for the one and only person he has ever truly loved? why is claire allowed to mourn jamie and john is not? jamie is one of his closest friends, he has literally raised jamie's child as his own, he has always stood by jamie's side, and yet he cannot grieve?
"lord john has been lusting over jamie for 30 years" is the absolute stupidest take i have ever read on this show and on his character; john has nary ever made a move on jamie, denied jamie when he "offered" himself (which, in this episode, he admits was the better thing to do), he would have married bree to save her and take care of her in the past, he marries claire to save her from treason, and he has never laid a hand on jamie, but, god fobid, he lusts after him (which, when has he ever in the past three seasons or something). john has always kept a respectful distance between jamie and him, got married even, raised a child. this fandom has such a problem with john expressing his love and grief for the one man he has ever truly loved, and it just doesn't sit right with me. why? what is the reason for all that hostility?
"if he would have been a woman lusting after jamie for so long, it would have never been allowed to stand" well, john is NOT a woman which is perhaps the entire point of his endless devotion, because it is naturally rooted in unfulfillment. his love for jamie cannot be treated the same as any other woman's love because it is tied to different societal norms of the time, which is, once again, the point. (which he stresses in the carriage scene as well.) i am not excusing john of all the shit he's done or how outlander has chosen to treat him (sometimes, i just don't like it) but the fact that his fandom has such a bone to pick with him for all the wrong reasons is just not it.
grief is illogical, and we have never seen john grieving jamie the way he has in this episode. the fact that he is with claire is actually narratively compelling because they are the two characters who have romantically loved jamie the most, and the longest. obviously, john will not grieve jamie the same as claire does, but there is a reason why they are doing it together - because, in many ways, they are the only two people who understand each other in that moment. the only difference is that claire is allowed to openly grieve her husband while john is not allowed to openly grieve the man he loved as, well, the man he loved. this is not to diminish claire's grief but to simply offer a point of view on john's character and why he is so heavily featured in this episode. it is actually deeply compelling what they have done here, and david and cait are tremendous actors who have turned in their best performances playing opposite of each other.
lord john, just like any other character in the show, is flawed and human and grief does things to you that cannot be explained or understood unless you have been through it. to deny him the agency and the mere notion of mourning jamie is just cruel.

If Percy appears soon on the show and he and John don't have the spicy bitchy exes energy (that Claire recognized in the book, btw), I don't even want it.

The way he just described what happened between John and Percy lmao 😭😭 like Jamie wasn’t even John’s ex and he was like “not committing bc Jamie”

begging Starz pls give us a Lord John Grey series
#i give them max 3 years#if they don’t announce it anytime soon then well…#i think that if we see percy in 7b then announcing lord john series between 7b and s8 would be perfect#but i’m glad that david spoke about it bc i see that the fans took it seriously and are doing everything to make it happen!
