14. If you could own any movie or TV costume piece (not necessarily to wear), which would it be?
Hmm, I think I'd like one of John Steed's bowler hats! Preferably one of the grey ones, because I think they look cool.
Looks like one was sold not so long ago, and the value was estimated at £3,000-5,000! I guess I should start saving my nickels.
Thanks for the question!

Pretty sure her brother taught her to drive, as per her numerous interviews. But, she did have to learn to ride a horse for The Avengers.

Lotus Elan S3, 1966. The Elan was an era-defining car and was for Lotus, their first really commercially successful road car. It featured a steel backbone chassis with a fibreglass body and was powered by a DOHC 1,558 cc engine, with 4-wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering and 4-wheel independent suspension. Sales were boosted in the UK and internationally when the character Emma Peel (played by Diana Ring) drove one in 60’s TV series The Avengers. It provided the template for the Mazda MX-5 Miata. In 2004, Sports Car International placed the Elan number 6 in a list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.
PS: Diana Rigg had to learn to drive for the TV show, Lotus gave her the car when she left The Avengers, but she wasn't a keen driver and passed the Elan onto a friend. More recently Dame Diana played the role of Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thrones, she passed away in 2020, aged 82. R.I.P

Yep I grew up on old TV shows my parents watched, what can I say… Except to add: competent men, and women (especially in leather jumpsuits) are hot. And I’m a sucker for unrequited/impossible love between lead characters.

Doing a little hard drive tidying and going through some of my many hundreds of started and abandoned fics.
Most of it is Mycroft Holmes-related (I switched note-taking apps when I started doing Snape stuff). Who wants to see what's on my hard drive?
Mrs Hudson's Christmas Fancy Dress Party
Mrs Hudson's Christmas fancy dress party was a date to fear and dread. Three days before 'the event', John and Sherlock would find themselves wearing rubber gloves and clutching jay cloths as Mrs Hudson instigated 'operation clean flat'. Then there would be the annual 'de-Sherlocking of the kitchen', followed by the traditional 'almighty consulting detective tantrum'.
It was always worth the nightmare, Sherlock would go the full hog with some ridiclous costume that would require John's assistance all evening. This year was no different.
"There's no poison in that or anything is there?" John asked nervously, staring at his flatmate who was dressed in a splendidly fuzzy black and yellow costume complete with delicate wings and scarily realistic stinger.
"Don't be ridiculous." Sherlock snorted through his bee mask, "I couldn't get the delivery system to work. It kept dribbling down my leg." He sounded disappointed.
"Well, that's a good thing." John popped his deerstalker onto his head.
Sherlock peered at him. "What is that?" He pulled off his bee mask, "No! John, I forbid---"
"Hello!" A suspiciously Molly sounding cat waved from the doorway. "Oh, you look very good, Sherlock."
"I'm hoping he'll provide honey in the morning."
"John, I'm obviously a bumblebee and bumblebees do not produce honey, in fact---"
"We get it you're a bumblebee, here have a drink." John shoved a beer into Beelock's hand and moved into the living room with Molly.
"I like your Sherlock costume." Molly grinned.
"I wanted to be Batman but this would piss Sherlock off more."
Half an hour later, the party was in full swing. Anderson (in a dinosaur costume) was having a hard time dancing with Sally (nurses costume) but nothing could compare to Sherlock's energetic bee dance (he insisted he was demonstrating the various bee communication methods but it looked more like the twist to John).
In the kitchen, John Steed (Mycroft) was having a lively discussion with James Bond (Lestrade) concerning Emma Peel (Anthea).
---
The first blast rocked the car, causing the driver to lose control and spin uncontrollably into a parked car, flipping it onto its roof. Glass tinkled around Mycroft as he tried to free himself from the seat belt. Something warm dripped into his eyes obscuring his vision. He felt a pair of hands on him, blinking he saw it was Anthea dishevelled and bleeding. She swiftly got his seat belt undone and together they squeezed out the cars broken back window.
Around them the world was silent but for a distant car alarm. Leaning against the car, Mycroft could see the car blown apart in front of them. A badly damaged taxi was adjacent to the blast. He blinked slowly.
Anthea put a hand on his sleeve and he knelt beside her, helping their driver out of the car. He seemed to be more shaken than hurt. The three of them stood staring at the devastation around them. Then they heard it, the unmistakable sound of a baby crying. Without a second thought, Anthea and Mycroft raced towards the taxi.
That's when the second bomb went off.
--- (this could be related to the above, but who knows where I was going with this xD)
The beeping in his head got louder. Mycroft frowned against the intrusion. He was comfortable and warm, his brain filled with a pleasant nothing and he didn't want any intrusion in his comfortable little world. A squeezing pain on his ear lobe finally forced him to open his eyes. He blinked, trying to bring the figure leaning over him into focus.
"Ah, excellent. You're awake." Harry sat back down, hooking one knee over the other. "You know there's a long line of people out there who want to smother you with a pillow."
Mycroft blinked and reached up to remove his mask. "What day is it?"
"Tuesday. You've been out three days." Harry popped a grape into his mouth.
"Is Greg...?"
"He's barely left. Your parents took him home. I sent Anthea home to get some rest but I doubt she will. Oh, and John Watson made your brother go home about an hour ago."
"Sherlock was here?"
"Yes, harassing the nurses. I don't think I've ever seem him quite so agitated." He popped another grape into his mouth. "You really have caused a remarkably amount of bother, perhaps I should add myself to the list."
"I do apologise."
"Yes." Harry selected another grape. "She sends her best wishes and hopes you enjoy the grapes."
Mycroft glanced over the almost empty fruit bowl. "Tell her they were delightful."
---
When Malcolm Tucker first met Mycroft Holmes he took one look at the impeccably tailored three-piece suit, the certain primness, the fucking umbrella and thought "pretentious Oxbridge twat."

Avengers (Teddy Bear Nightmare edition. You know the one I’m talking about 👀)
@richardxoliverxmayhew
Send me a movie title and I’ll tell you my:
favourite scene: You know the one. The one where he's fencing against Sean Connery! Wet!
favourite quote: I honestly don't know one right now, except the one from the little old lady shooting some guy and then going, "I hope he was a baddie."
favourite character: John Steed, of course. Just look at him. LOOK AT HIM.
favourite song: I honestly have to pass on this one! I never quite liked the soundtrack of the movie, although--wait. The theme song. But the original, from the original series. I think it plays in the end.
least favourite scene: ...you expect me to say the Teddy Bear Nightmare Parade scene, right? But I won't. I gotta say, the first scene we see Mrs Peel. That woman can't fucking act and it's so obvious just from how she is on the telephone!
how many times I’ve watched it: I'm afraid to admit, I watch it quite often. This movie is my guilty pleasure and I'm not sorry! I've grown up with it and Ralph looks fucking hot.

This may be a ridiculous question, but are you familiar with "The Avengers"? Not the Marvel thing, but the tongue-in-check, sometimes rather kinky British mystery/spy show with John Steed (Patrick Macnee) and his various assistants, including, inter alia, Mrs. Emma Peel (Diana Rigg)? I'm pretty confident you've at least seen pictures from it (e.g., Emma in her Hellfire Club fetish outfit), but do you know the TV show? If so, carry on; if not, I think it would be very much your kind of thing.
I LOVED that show in high school! It was just the right mix of silly, kinky, 60s spy mystery and I was so obsessed. And not just because of the Hellfire Club episode, but not *not* because of that either. I should revisit it, it was a blast.
On a vaguely related note, A and I have been watching The Prisoner, and have both been really enjoying. Aesthetically fantastic, I love the paranoid twisty cat-and-mouse, and I love that it’s never actually explained.

no no no no you don't understand. Aziraphale is Mr. Darcy and Crowley is Elizabeth Bennet, but also Cas is Crowley and Dean is Aziraphale. But that would make Dean Mr. Darcy and Cas Elizabeth Bennet and that makes no sense. And we haven't even covered who's John Steed and who's Mrs. Peel. .

One Dress a Day Challenge
Not-a-Dress November
The Avengers / Diana Rigg as Mrs. Emma Peel
Emma was, of course, famous for her catsuits--one of which is covered here by @sweet-christabel. But she also wore some very stylish outfits with pants, such as this one, seen in "The Living Dead" and "The Joker." I particularly like the cut of the coat and the unusual "notched" fastening. In both episodes, she appears to be wearing the coat over a yellow high-necked sweater; in "The Joker," she also wears yellow boots!
