Szymczyck didn't just produce Seger and the Eagles. You see, he also helmed one of the Who's last hurrahs in terms of being seen as an on-going concern. I know, they are still present, but they don't converse with the modernity that much, they operate under the legacy mode. This didn't happen on Face Dances, where they attempted to fit whatever the 80's represent for them. I would claim they made a template, though I fear the latter wasn't that sustainable enough, since they basically just put more water on their asphalt. Sure, they did make themselves fresh this way, but you could tell that unlike some of their 60's peers they felt lost in the period, which – to be honest – favoured their contemporaries forgetting their previous selves.

June 1, 1974 is a live album of songs performed at the Rainbow Theatre in London on the titular date. The album is officially attributed to Kevin Ayers, John Cale, Brian Eno and Nico, although other well-known musicians, including Mike Oldfield and Robert Wyatt, also contributed to the concert. It is also informally known as the ACNE album, i.e. "Ayers, Cale, Nico, Eno". The cover photograph was taken by Mick Rock in the foyer of the Rainbow Theatre shortly before the concert began. The bemused stare between John Cale (right) and Kevin Ayers (left) is explained by the fact that Cale had caught Ayers sleeping with his wife the night before the show.
Other songs that were performed but did not make the LP include Kevin Ayers' "I've Got A Hard-On For You Baby" (with Cale on backing vocals), John Cale's "Buffalo Ballet" and "Gun", and Nico's "Janitor of Lunacy" and her rendition of "Deutschland Über Alles".

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Happy Hump Day!
My new friend Dennis Daye said yesterday, “Love your musings!” Ah, Dennis, these bloody musings keep me awake at night! Early on Tuesday morning, The Trouble’s alarm clock went off, as it was still on Jamaican time! It was just before 4.00 a.m. I tried to get back to sleep but couldn’t. Those bloody musings kept me awake! That’s why I work so hard! I work until I fall asleep. If I get into bed too early, the musings keep me awake. I think about good stuff … mostly … but, because I’m a human being, I think about bad stuff too. I think about terrible things that will probably never happen. I have imaginary conversations with people that will never take place. And, of course, I write. I usually write kind, motivational or encouraging words and, on rare occasions, I’ll have right old rant! On Monday morning, I almost let someone have it with both barrels, but The Trouble talked me down. I’m glad she did. It would have served no purpose.
A beautiful friend said to me yesterday that she does not suffer from FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). She’d spent the entire platinum jubilee weekend resting and was quite happy to do that, without the worry that she was missing out on anything. I definitely feel that way too. If I get a great invitation to go somewhere, I’ll go but, if I don’t, I’m quite happy to stay at home and do nothing. Literally nothing! When you’ve seen Luther Vandross, Maze, Earth Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, Anita Baker, Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones (all in their heyday), you don’t really worry about missing a gig. And when you’ve been to Paradise Garage, The Fun House, Danceteria, Limelight, The Tunnel and Better Days (all in their heyday), you don’t really worry about missing out on a club night. These days, I am very fussy! I need a really good reason to leave my yard.
Okay, now it’s going to get real nerdy, so strap yourself in! Last night, I went to a staff meeting, and I got into a conversation with one of our tutors (teaching singing and composition), the legendary, Grammy Award-winning, keyboardist Phil Ramocon. Now, as you know, Bob Marley passed away in 1981, but Island Records continued re-working, re-mixing and re-releasing his music up until 2005. After Bob’s death, Island Studios’ in-house producer Godwin Logie was tasked with re-working some of these tracks, re-arranging, adding new parts, and Phil was lucky enough to play on some of those tracks. Phil also mentioned another musician that was drafted in to work on Bob’s music, John ‘Rabbit’ Bundrick, a white keyboard player from Texas, who had been brought to this country by his fellow Texan, Johnny Nash who, coincidentally, had a big hit with the Bob Marley song ‘Stir It Up’. Rabbit was drafted-in to play Clavinet and synthesizer on ‘Catch A Fire’ and give the album a more modern, more accessible sound. It worked! ‘Catch A Fire’ was the first album to earn Bob a Gold disc, selling 100,000 albums. These are the kind of details I love!
Have a wonderful and well-endowed Wednesday. I love you all. Yes, a crazy, bald man loves and cares about you.

How can we actually call the albums in the vein of Supernatural? I once proposed a phrase hyper-mainstreamization, though that one needs some more work. However, I do think an umbrella term would be comeback, since most of these platters do achieve something like that. The Who's Endless Wire, for example, introduced the band again as the group also achieved one of their greatest placement on the charts, though the latter fact doesn't sound that special given the current situation about the sales, yet I digress. Moving on – while I don't have a problem with the disc I mentioned, I do believe the Who were better before. However, no one really assumed they could've reached the peaks of their stardom. You see, the LP is an above average one for someone of their stature, they still care.

On June 1, 1974, Kevin Ayers, John Cale, Brian Eno and Nico, joined forces for one memorable evening at the Rainbow Theatre in London.
The idea for the concert came from Island Records A&R man, Richard Williams, who suggested it would be a interesting mix of artists and would help generate interest in the label which had, up to then, been associated primarily with reggae. “They had all these cult people on the label,” said Cale in a 1974 press release. “The idea was that if you put them all together you might sell enough to justify their presence.”
Joining the four were future touring Who member John ‘Rabbit’ Bundrick on keyboards and guitarist Mike Oldfield. Former Soft Machine drummer and vocalist Robert Wyatt was also on hand. The concert featured material from all the key players, Nico’s incredible take on the Doors‘ ‘The End’ was a hypnotic trip, Cale’s haunting rendition of the Elvis Presley classic ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ took the song into an entirely different world than Presley had ever dreamed of.
The event was not without its own soap opera. Ayers had became involved with Cynthia Wells, Cale’s wife. Cale learned of their fling shortly before they took the stage that fateful night. He would preserve the incident in the song ‘Guts,’ which features the opening line, “The bugger in the short sleeves fucked my wife, did it quick and split.” The two eventually mended fences and continued to work together over the years.

"Another Tricky Day" by the Who is one of my all-time favorite songs. There's something about the sound of Pete Townshend's guitar that grabs me by the collar and won't let go. Here's a live version from July 27, 2002--kick out the jams.

Album: The Puss Puss Band - Echoes Across The Cruel Sea // April 2017
The Puss Puss Band have created a damn fine collection of Pop/Folk songs, and have labelled this sonic gift as ‘Echoes Across The Cruel Sea’
With sincere melodies and songwriting that can only be described as accomplished, they deliver an established, mature sound that makes the new listener feel like they’re already acquainted.
The Puss Puss Band are a two piece mainly studio based outfit from South Wales comprising of multi instrumentalists Asa Galeozzie and Lee Pugh.
Both have worked with numerous artists and bands in the UK and the Welsh music industry over the last ten years as writers, session musicians while also developing their sound engineering and studio production skills.
After a break from the industry Galeozzie and Pugh once again began writing, arranging and producing the material that would go on to become The Puss Puss Band.
Influenced by the compositional and songwriting genius of artists like Brian Wilson, Burt Bacharach, David Bowie, Neil Young and Bill Nelson; Galeozzie and Pugh began shaping the idea of an amalgamation of simple pop/rock songs and more sonically ambitious 'pocket epics' with every idea being, conceived, written performed, engineered and produced by themselves.
With a big emphasis on pure, honest, fearless songwriting, and intricately woven melodies The Puss Puss Band aim to blend the stripped bare feeling of acoustic indie pop and rock with hints of the more classic, refined and warmer elements of jazz, folk, and blues, to create songs and arrangements that don't easily fall into a pigeon holed genre.
April 2017 saw the release of the debut album Echoes Across The Cruel Sea which features a guest appearance throughout by John Rabbit Bundrick (The Who, Free, Roger waters, Bob Marley...) On piano, Hammond organ, & Synths.
The Puss Puss Band are currently promoting the new album and recently performed numerous live sets including a live acoustic set for the BBC.
Current Releases;
Echoes Across The Cruel Sea (2017) - The full debut album featuring John Rabbit Bundrick

From a child, annA has performed and written songs but given that 1990 she has been a firm favourite on the folk scene playing all kinds of venues from small clubs to large festivals such as The Phoenix, Sidmouth International, Cropredy and Guildford. Her very first album ‘Whatâ€s Afoot†was released in 1990 and her 1st CD ‘Eye To Eye†in 1993 which consisted entirely of original songs. A track from this album ‘Sailing Boat†was toured and covered by Fairport Convention in 1997.
In 1999 annAâ€s CD ‘Pockets On Fire†was released on the Fairport label ‘Woodworm†with Fairport Convention playing on 8 of the tracks. Since its release in February 1999, this album has received excellent reviews and has been described as ‘a confident and varied singer-songwriter album with depth and integrity†with ‘songs that demonstrate a rare originality†and ‘that demand your attention†– MOJO mag March 1999.
The summers of 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 saw annA at the 20,000 strong Cropredy Festival and continuing her relationship with Fairport, she supported them on their UK tour in early 1999 playing venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall and Croydon Fairfield Halls.
She returned to the Symphony Hall to sing for the SwarbAid Concert. annA continues to join Fairport during acoustic tours and has played The London Festival Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall once again with them on their 2002 tour playing 3 songs including her own ‘The Crowd†with them. The Crowd was then recorded with her on Fairport Conventionâ€s 2002 album XXXV. annA also features in a Fairport DVD and a four CD+book collection both celebrating 35 years of this legendary folk-rock band.
The autumn of 1999 brought a quick solo tour of Gerseveral followed by a return trip the next year. During 2001, the annA rydeR banD emerged with the typically unusual line-up of trombone, clarinet, bass clarinet, percussion and vocals together with her own array of instruments. Surprising and unique, gigs by the annA rydeR banD have been described as ‘starting on a high and just getting betterâ€.
annA then brought her band to Germany in March 2002. annA returned to Europe with Keith Donnelly (writer Jasper Carrott, Phil Cool) to tour in Holland that year.
In the summer of 2000, Eddi Reader (ex-Fairground Attraction) joined annA for a gig in Banbury where they performed together in an informal and memorable evening. This was followed by a set together at Cropredy 2000.
Eddi and annA (on accordion) joined again at Cropredy 2002 also as joining forces in Australia for an informal gig. annA has also toured as support to All About Eve in autumn 2000, spring 2001 and Jan 2002. annA and Julianne Regan (from All About Eve) also played a one-off special gig in August 2001 at Banbury as part of the add-up to Cropredy Festival.
A live album ‘annA rydeRâ€s Tour With Fairport Convention â€99†was released early 2002.
annA went solo to Australia in March 2002 to play Port Fairy Folk Festival near Melbourne. In 2002 the annA rydeR banD appeared with Jacqui McShee and Spencer Cozens during Cropredy lead-up. annA also played at Cropredy 2002 with the early line-up of Fairport featuring Richard Thompson. Supporting Dave Swarbrick and Simon Nicol during their UK tour followed on in 2003.
Following her appearance with Jacqui McShee in the summer of 2002, annA then toured in Germany during the summer of 2003 with Jacquiâ€s band performing both her own and Jacquiâ€s songs. annA then returned to Europe in the autumn to play solo gigs in Vienna.
Following a successful UK tour in 2002 as ‘The Fairport Supportersâ€, annA recorded sessions on both Steve Tilstonâ€s and Bob Foxâ€s refreshing albums.
annA appeared again at Cropredy in 2003. During 2003 annA toured as part of The Steve Tilston Band playing keyboard, accordion, French and trumpet as well as singing.
annAâ€s biggest project during 2003 was the recording of her new album ‘Paper Girl†which was released on her own label RowdyMusic in January 2004. Paper Girl is 14 of her songs featuring John Rabbit Bundrick (keyboard player The Who), Clive Bunker (drums ex-Jethro Tull), Maartin Allcock (bass ex-Jethro Tull+ex-Fairport) as well as Dave Pegg, Gerry Conway and Simon Nicol (Fairport).
As well as working as a freelance musician collaborating with dancers from Birmingham Royal Ballet and contemporary dancers, annA is also a leading and much sought-after artist in education. From 2005 to 2008 annA has continued as a much-sought-after artist in education as well as performing at various venues in UK and recording on other peopleâ€s albums During 2006 annA led music workshops in Barcelona for students of the Conservatoire interested in education. annA has also been developing the building of outdoor instruments and indoor environments focusing on sound in recent years.
In 2007 Didmarton Bluegrass Festival invited annA to play which followed with a 2nd booking on main phase in 2008. She also spent many hours with other musicians jamming through the night! Other recent work includes playing keys, accordion and trumpet as co-member of The Julie Felix Band with PJ Wright. As well as this annA continues to write songs and perform across UK alongside her research/education work.
annAâ€s quirky, personal yet touching material and her wicked outlook on life together with her accomplished instrumental playing (guitar, piano, accordion, brass) ensures she remains an interesting and original musician, writer, jammer and singer.
