Day 12 — Favorite Making Of

I like making of, I like to see the way of the creation of a video, to see how technically and humanly, we build what will be one (among others) interpretation of a song. I hesitate a lot between several videos. There are elements in each of them that I like or that touch me. For example, in the Rosenrot making of, I like the moment when the guys practice whipping, but I don't like it so much when Till gets hit by the others. In the Mein Herz Brennt making of I like the interactions with the kids, it's really cute. And of course, the transformation of the guys into shaggy men. I also like the Mein Teil and Benzin making of.

I think my favourite director is Joern Heitmann. I think the guys also like working with him, they seem to have a lot of confidence in him and I think Joern understood who they were and what they wanted to convey as an image, as a message. It's probably not for nothing that the band continues to work with him today. My favourite Joern videos are, in addition to Ohne Dich which I already mentioned on day 5 of this challenge, Zick Zack, Mutter, Ich Will, Haifish and Auslander. It is the making of this last video that I chose as my answer for today.

I really like this making of. First, because it makes me laugh, makes me laugh and I give you my heart. Secondly, because it explains perfectly who Rammstein are and what message they wanted to get across in their song. And finally, because the guys are fucking DILF in this video ! I'm attaching some pictures of the photo book by Jens Koch and some gifs by me.

There are a lot of little things that make me laugh in this video : the guys' laughter at the beginning of the video ; Paul playing air guitar with an elephant horn (mammoth's horn, considering the size) :

The way Schneider falks from the boat and how Paul laughs at him ; the way Till makes the young woman laugh when he tells her she could kick his ass :

The guys' awkward little dance steps ; Paul laughing at Till's painting skills ; Flake becoming a "king. It's such a feel good video.

The Untitled Album of 2019 is surely Rammstein's most political one, with Deutschland talking about the evolution of Germany, its dark sides, its historical past, but also the hope the guys put in the future generations. Radio which denounces censorship and praises freedom of expression. Zeig Dich which denounces the Catholic Church, its abuses and its hypocrisy. And of course Ausländer. Joern explains perfectly what he wanted to show in the video, a video that without this making of was misunderstood. Rammstein plays white European settlers in Africa: they are racist. No, Rammstein is not racist and this video denounces what it shows. This is what Joern explains in the making of, the lyrics of the song are controversial, the music is joyful, so he had a lot of room to manoeuvre for his video. As Schneider says, it's an ironic song. So the video had to be too.

This video also denounces religious colonisation, which has been one of the most important in the history of mankind, in all four corners of the planet. The missionaries not only imposed their religion, but also their language, as Till shows when he disguises himself as a pastor-schoolmaster. And then there is the sexual aspect, especially the denunciation of sex tourism.

The guys are so funny in this video, and they have such a clumsy side sometimes. They dance like dads who have had a bit too much to drink at their daughter's wedding.

Especially in the final scene around the fire. I die laughing every time I watch it. And then the way they are kind and gentle with the children, Till showing a little girl the cheetah in the truck always moves me.

Yes, Zoran sounds pissed because Till isn't working with him anymore! He needs him but Till doesn't. And saying Till's videos not from him are like Rammstein from Ali Express? Man, you sounds pissed because you're not the onde who directed masterpieces like Ich hasse Kinder, Zunge or Sport frei!

Well, @franwikema just pointed out to me that Zoran had a clip of Till's guitar players on his Instagram, that I've seen being shown during his latest Tour, so he might have been responsible for the video part of the shows, including the more recent ones, even if he directed none of his music videos (at least, so far) since that one I mentioned, back in 2020. But he still sounds pissed that he went with different directors for his music videos in Zunge, since he directed pretty much everything for LINDEMANN.

I don't doubt that he and Till work well together, but does Till really needs to be pushed to extremes all the time? Is Zoran the only one who can get the best out of Till as a solo artist? Even if he, very conceitedly, wants to believe it, I hardly think so and, like I said in my previous post, I enjoy some of their work together and with Rammstein, I just think it's also interesting he's working with different crowds (including a woman director for Zunge).

Till the End, for example. I don't think all that was necessary to convey the message he refers to, which I actually got from it. But, to me, the uncensored version of Platz Eins was much more efficient on that matter (and the song is 10 times better than Till the End) and would have sufficed. Also, I think it's funny he's now saying this about "Praise Abort": "The video starts with "Rammstein Till" and then "solo Till" comes in with a pig face and kicks him off the stage. A lot of people didn't understand that". Well, a lot of people didn't understand that (me included), maybe because there's a making of on that video and never once he mentioned this take. Why now?

To finish this subject, I just think he would have done a better service to his friend by keeping his mouth shut, because it brought back old stuff and just made people lash out on Till yet again (also, I don't think it's cool to talk for another person, especially when that person isn't found of giving interviews...).

Interesting, and although i would like to think you're right, i thought the same when just before the 2022 tour Till was filming with Specter Berlin and that turned out to be (i assume) for that gambling ad that they did together (that, an extra bit from the Adieu video, but they did the ad together too).

I would love for this to be a Rammstein music video though, especially because fire is mentioned 🔥

Interestingly the Jörn Heitmann tagged is not the director we know, but another person who breeds horses, but i assume that is just a mistag 😊

R+ fanfiction idea 13

The Gang needs help

Inspired by: music videos Ich will and Du hast; FF Bis der Tod euch scheidet 

A gang of bank robbers (R+) need three girls for the next task. The task involves programming and economics, and they look for the best for hire helps. Ollie has spotted someone at the gym: Elsa, a Finnish giant that looks like she can’t put two words together. However, after helping him with a malfunctioning banking app, he suggests the gang tries to check her out. She might be their second girl (after Christa Schneider)!

The files that they get from their boss Jörn tell a different story form what Ollie (and later Till) saw at the gym: instead of a dumb troll, they have to deal with what seems like a Mathematics Major with some questionable side activities (that works in a local warehouse as a manual labourer). They are taken aback by the contrasts but they are lucky: Elsa usually doesn’t work alone! She has a friend, an English Major Kayla that also has a criminal finger every now and then. It seems Kayla is the one that gives orders between them, and Kayla has a more unequivocal record, so if they persuade them to help, they are safe as houses with the next task.

They arrange a meeting: Till and Richard are to speak with the ladies over a dinner. After the initial hiccup (Elsa not being able to answer simple questions from Richard but then warming up around Till), they not only agree on working together but on the more personal level, the flirting between Richard and Kayla had been the most obvious thing in the world. And, what shocked everyone even more, the notoriously shy and nervous Till has been calmer around Elsa who seems to be able to speak around him.

Cast and crew:

Elsa Ilmarinen and Kayla Basildon, part-time criminals specialising in economic crime

Jörn Heitmann, the boss of a very infamous, Pankow-based criminal gang going under the name R+

Flake and Ollie, operational bosses of the R+ group because they are naturally the calmest

Richard and Till, the creative – and founding – brains of the gang that retired from the leading positions because they were too much organising and too little actual work; Till also functions as the speaker of the group to cover for the real bosses and because he is quite scary

Schneider and Paul, the flexible members of R+; Schneider because he has a thing for cross dressing and Paul for his bargaining abilities

2. Sport frei The chorus really sticks with you. Like I've said before, the lyrics are strong (more so, when you think about his own relationship with sports), but it doesn't do much for me as far as the melody in itself goes, unfortunately. I guess it's the electronic part that isn't much my cup of tea or it just reminds of some of his other songs...I can't really explain it.

The video is powerful and beautifully made, by the hands of Joern Heitmann.

I think it needs to be said that Till hasn't worked with Zoran since, I think, 2020. At least from his Youtube page, the last video he directed for him, after disbanding Lindemann, was "Alle Tage ist kein Sonntag".

Since "Ich Hasse Kinder" (my favourite from his solo work), he has been teaming up with different directors - some new/more unknown (I think he's actually appreciating people wanting to work with him, like you say - there's the Russian crew and now the Mexican one), but also a very familiar Rammstein friend, Joern Heitmann, which originated another favourite video, Sport Frei. Is he actually gonna question the quality of that one too, like he did with Eugenio Recuenco's MHB version?

So I'm assuming he's just pissed because "Zunge" was his first completely solo work, was actually successful and he didn't need him. I'm not sure how he explains that, since the decision was his alone. The other 5 "envious" Rammstein guys had no say on that...

Anyway, I actually enjoyed some of their collaborations (even Platz Eins), but you won't see me crying if they never team up again.

Zoran sounds like a such a typical bitter bitch. He's so clearly so pressed about Rammstein refusing to work with him and thinks both their and Till's work is nothing without him. Who even are you??? Head so far up his own ass that there's no hope of ever seeing light again! "People simply can't understand my art" SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU TOAD LOOKING MASOCHIST! His only talent is pushing people to their limits and when they say "enough" he thinks he's above them.

Till needs to take his own head out of his ass and stop hanging around people like Zoran. There's plenty of talented artists who are not cunts.

Well, i think we can agree that Zoran's interview ruffled some feathers 😊

And Till, I think has been working with others as well, I don't remember all the video directors of his recent ones, but i think he did a commercial with Specter Berlin too 😊

Till is so versatile and loads of people want to work with him, i hope he takes full advantage of that 🌺
