Trump survived. Here's what will happen.
Every media, news outlet will be showing this photo. Not of a convicted felon who was impeached, who summoned violent terrorists to the white house, who sexually assaulted many women, but of a survivor, a hero.
Tumblr media
And Trump will win 2024. The Alt Right and his MAGA supporters will see this and be more motivated than ever to vote Trump. Centrists will see this and think "the left is so much more extreme than the right" and vote Trump. Fuck, even liberals, after seeing Bidens disastrous debate performance might vote trump. In their eyes, he's a survivor now, he's strong now, he's worthy now. If you don't believe me, wait and see the top comments of news articles, the Reddit posts, the twitter quote tweets.
It isn't if Trump wins, it's when Trump wins, Ukraine is Fucked. Palestine is extra Fucked. And of course, America is absolutely Fucked.
I don't like Biden, but Americans have to remember: you live in a two-party system.
It is Biden or Trump.
And I'd much much rather an old husk of a man that has done so much good for trans rights, social policies, and human rights in general, than Trump. Yes, Biden has sent aids to Israel. Do you think Trump won't do the same? Do you think Trump won't do worse?
"Vote for a third party, they're both awful" you might say. Come on, be realistic. This is about holding the line against fascism. It is going to be way WAY easier to change the system when you're up against milk toast Joe than an actual dictator. So,
For the love of god, vote Biden in Novermber.

Some U.S. election news updates (as of afternoon November 7, 2024):
Many states, including major battleground ones, have started recounting votes on their own despite there still being no national call for a recount. Some of these states recounting or considering recounting as of November 7, 2024 include: Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona (considering), and Texas (considering).
Most news outlets have been covering state laws regarding recounts and what a recount could mean. Notably, right-wing sources like Fox News have not mentioned the possibility of a recount or the high demand for one (hmmm).
In cities such as Chicago and Philadelphia, people took to the streets in a peaceful protest to demand a recount (wait, you can protest peacefully?? without starting an insurrection?? Crazy).
Tumblr media
More information alleging Trump cheating has come forward, although many people are expressing their frustrations over there being little to no coverage of election interference by the mainstream media. Additionally, many Democratic voters are vowing to boycott news sources such as CNN and MSNBC due to their apparent tone-deaf and lackluster response to the allegations.
Tumblr media
On Twitter, hashtags such as “Do Not Concede Kamala,” “Recount 2024,” “He/Trump Cheated,” and “Rigged” continue to trend nationally since election night.
Also in the Twitter hellscape, Elon Musk has been removing posts with resources, posts alleging Trump cheated, and posts with information on how to check your ballot and demand a recount. This is awfully suspicious and concerning behavior from someone who has also been accused of bribing voters, which is a federal crime.
Many people are also sharing their grief over the extreme likelihood of programs and services such as Social Security, Medicare, SNAP, the Department of Education, and others being diminished or fully gutted as many Republican lawmakers and Trump have promised to do. Already today (Nov. 7), House Republicans have proposed a bill that would reduce social security payments for U.S.Americans who receive disability benefits or a pension.
There are also concerns over imposed tariffs, the United States losing its NATO membership, and the potential dissolving of the United Nations.
Many MAGA Trump supporters have started to be more emboldened, not just in the Twitter space. Multiple parents have come forward to share that young boys at their children’s schools have also begun repeating the “your body, my choice” mantra, leaving other kids in distress.
Speaking of distress, nationwide, queer and trans people have been largely absent from work and school. Since election night, LGBTQ+ and other helplines have had long waits due to such high demand.
TW: suicide mention, skip the next paragraph
There’s been over 2000+ suicides of just LGBTQ+ individuals since election night and the numbers keep increasing drastically.
End TW
Politically, sitting President Joe Biden addressed the nation today to discuss a “peaceful transfer of power.” He addressed people questioning Donald Trump’s win and the election system saying: “It is honest, it is fair, and it is transparent, and it can be trusted, win or lose."
Needless to say, no one was pleased by his response and are still demanding an investigation or recount.
Other political figures such as Bernie Sanders and the Obamas’ released their own statements regarding the election.
The Obamas’ had a very professional yet disappointed statement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bernie Sanders however, took a different approach, sharing the mass sentiment among democratic voters and criticizing the Democratic Party based on their response to the situation. “It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.”

Multiple videos and images with election news and updates.
The first video, posted to Twitter, is of an Anti-Trump protest in Chicago.
These should be peacefully taking place all over the country. This is what democracy is about, not storming Capitol buildings. Right MAGA? pic.twitter.com/lgzsP41Lze — Brian Krassenstein (@krassenstein) November 7, 2024.
The video shows people in the streets of Chicago and in front of Trump tower peacefully protesting in demand for a recount and investigation.
Protesters chants include:
“Donald Trump, you will see!”
“Racist, sexist, anti-gay! Donald Trump, go away!”
and “You’re not welcome in this town! Donald Trump, you fascist clown!”
The second video was also posted to Twitter by CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CalltoActivism) on November 6, 2024. It’s a video from MSNBC reporting on the strange behavior of Trump leading up to the election where he repeatedly said he didn't need votes. These statements seem to imply that regardless of how people voted, he expected to gain power.
The next image is of the official statement regarding the election results by Barack and Michelle Obama.
The statement reads:
STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT AND MRS. OBAMA ON THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION NOVEMBER 6, 2024
“Over the last few weeks and through Election Day, millions of Americans cast their votes - not just for president, but for leaders at every level. Now the results are in, and we want to congratulate President Trump and Senator Vance on their victory. This is obviously not the outcome we had hoped for, given our profound disagreements with the Republican ticket on a whole host of issues. But living in a democracy is about recognizing that our point of view won't always win out, and being willing to accept the peaceful transfer of power. Michelle and I could not be prouder of Vice President Harris and Governor Walz - two extraordinary public servants who ran a remarkable campaign. And we will always be grateful to the staff and volunteers who poured their heart and soul into electing public servants they truly believed in. As I said on the campaign trail, America has been through a lot over the last few years - from a historic pandemic and price hikes resulting from the pandemic, to rapid change and the feeling a lot of folks have that, no matter how hard they work, treading water is the best they can do. Those conditions have created headwinds for democratic incumbents around the world, and last night showed that America is not immune. The good news is that these problems are solvable - but only if we listen to each other, and only if we abide by the core constitutional principles and democratic norms that made this country great. In a country as big and diverse as ours, we won't always see eye-to-eye on everything. But progress requires us to extend good faith and grace - even to people with whom we deeply disagree. That's how we've come this far, and it's how we'll keep building a country that is more fair and more just, more equal and more free.”
The last two images are Bernie Sanders’ statement on the election results, criticizing the response of the Democratic Party.
Sanders’ statement reads:
NEWS: Sanders Statement on the Results of the 2024 Presidential Election November 6, 2024 BURLINGTON, Vt. - Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today released the following statement in response to the outcome of the 2024 presidential election:
“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they're right. Today, while the very rich are doing phenomenally well, 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and we have more income and wealth inequality than ever before. Unbelievably, real, inflation-accounted-for weekly wages for the average American worker are actually lower now than they were 50 years ago. Today, despite an explosion in technology and worker productivity, many young people will have a worse standard of living than their parents. And many of them worry that Artificial Intelligence and robotics will make a bad situation even worse. Today, despite spending far more per capita than other countries, we remain the only wealthy nation not to guarantee health care to all as a human right and we pay, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. We, alone among major countries, cannot even guarantee paid family and medical leave. Today, despite strong opposition from a majority of Americans, we continue to spend billions funding the extremist Netanyahu government's all out war against the Palestinian people which has led to the horrific humanitarian disaster of mass malnutrition and the starvation of thousands of children. Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign? Will they understand the pain and political alienation that tens of millions of Americans are experiencing? Do they have any ideas as to how we can take on the increasingly powerful Oligarchy which has so much economic and political power? Probably not. In the coming weeks and months those of us concerned about grassroots democracy and economic justice need to have some very serious political discussions. Stay tuned.”

Also Preserved in our archive (Daily updates!)
What if the pandemic safety net cobbled together in 2020 had been a new beginning?
What if when Joe Biden came into office in 2021, the Covid-19 safety net he was handed had become a new floor?
What if that was his baseline—and the newly elected Democratic president, sold by his most ardent supporters as FDR 2.0, had used our Covid-19 response as the bare minimum of a new social contract with Americans?
What if the caring nature of the best aspects of the US Covid response became the map for international relations—leading not just to international cooperation on infectious disease, but on matters of war, climate and genocide?
What if, instead of dismantling the vaccine-delivery infrastructure—which, at its height, delivered some four million shots in a single day—the Biden administration built upon and made some version of it permanent, so that everyone could easily get annual Covid boosters, annual flu vaccines, or get specialty vaccinations during outbreaks of unusual viruses (such as for mpox during the 2022 summer outbreak among queer men) whenever they needed it?
What if the viral surveillance and communication mechanisms utilized for learning about SARS-CoV-2, treating it and telling the public about it were being used to address H5N1—a virus which has been moving from birds to farm mammals to humans with so little notice that dead cows were killed by the “avian flu” and left on the side of a road in California’s Central Valley, as “Thick swarms of black flies hummed and knocked against the windows of an idling car, while crows and vultures waited nearby—eyeballing the taut and bloated carcasses roasting in the October heat”?What if the leaders of the Democratic party had used Covid as a blueprint to make a national platform based on care?
What if all the ways Covid had made clear how farmers, industrial butchers, kitchen staff and other food workers are the most at risk people amongst us to viral infection led to meaningful, permanent protections, such that they were much less likely to contract not just SARS-CoV-2 but H1N1, H5N1, influenza, or any other existing or novel pathogens?
What if all the all the ways Covid exposed how unsafe industrial food production is (for the workers who make it and the people who eat it alike) had triggered safety reforms, instead of having these warnings ignored and leading towards record numbers of safety recalls for e-coli, Salmonella, and Listeria?
What if an airborne pandemic had led to indoor air being as filtered, treated and regulated as drinking water?
What if everyone with a child was still getting a $300 check from the US treasury, so that having a child was not a gambling-style risk, but a responsibility shared with all of society?
What if the paused-for-years student debts were forgiven, so that young people could actually begin their lives?
What if Biden built on Americans’ experience of just showing up somewhere to get the medical care they needed to create a universal healthcare system?
(What if Kamala Harris built upon Americans’ taste of not getting charged at the point of such service—and campaigned on Medicare for All?)
What if once the link between Covid and homelessness was established, the Democrats had pushed infectious disease as just one reason for an end to evictions and a robust, public-health-backed campaign to end homelessness and stop the United States from having more people living on the streets than any other country?
What if after the link between Covid and incarceration was established, the Democrats had pursued decarceration as a public health measure and—instead of throwing weed and cryptocurrency at us—had made reducing incarceration a centerpiece of the Harris campaign to earn the votes of Black men?
(What if after 100,000 Californians died of Covid and the links between Covid, homelessness and incarceration were clear, residents of the Golden State chose to allow rent control and to abolish legal slavery in prisons—instead of voting to ban rent control and to continue prison slavery?)
What if the leaders of the Democratic party had used Covid as a blueprint to make a national platform based on care?
Would we be in the lethal position we are now—with a genocide raging abroad, Covid deaths in the hundreds every week at home, a poisoned food supply, $17 trillion in household debt, oligarch goons ready to dismantle government regulations, and a sociopath heading back into the White House—if Covid had been the floor?

Call between Y/N and Drew
Y/N (quietly): Hello?
Drew (softly): Hey... it’s me.
Y/N: (sighs) I figured. Kinda surprised you called. It’s been weeks
Drew: I wasn’t sure you’d pick up. But I needed to talk to you. Really talk to you.
Y/N: You picked a hell of a time—I'm going on in twenty minutes.
Drew: I know. I just… I couldn't let another week go by without saying something.
Y/N (pauses): Then say it.
Drew: Those photos… Y/N, I swear to you, what they looked like—it’s not what happened.
Y/N: You were holding her. She looked—comfortable. Too comfortable for someone who knows you're with someone else.
Drew: I thought she was just hugging me goodbye after the scene. We’d wrapped for the day. I didn’t know she was going to—press herself into me like that. I pushed her off right after. I told her it wasn’t okay. I told her about us—about how serious we are. Or… were.
Y/N (quietly): So you did say something?
Drew: Immediately. But it was too late. Someone had already snapped the pictures. And Odessa... she didn’t care. I set boundaries early on. Told her I had someone. She kept pushing it.
Y/N: Then why was she liking those comments? The ones calling me insecure. Saying I was a bottle blonde singer and I’m not your type.
Drew (sharply): I confronted her. Lit her up through text, I won't lie. Told her she crossed a line. She said it was “just a joke” and that I was overreacting. I made it clear I wasn't.
Y/N: Why didn’t you say something sooner?
Drew: Because I didn’t know if you’d even want to hear from me. Every day I wanted to call, and every day I saw you getting linked to Joe, and I—I don’t know. I felt like I lost my right to even ask where we stood.
Y/N (softly): Joe’s just a friend. He’s been there. That’s it. He listens.
Drew: And I get that. It’s not my business anymore. But... I’m still in love with you. Even if it’s selfish to say. Even after everything, I’m still yours—at least in my heart.
Y/N (voice wavering): You still have a backstage pass?
Drew: I do. From before... everything.
Y/N: I can’t stop you from coming. But I don’t know what seeing you will do to me.
Drew: I won’t push. I just want to be near you. Even if it’s from the side stage, behind security, I don’t care. I miss you. And I needed you to hear the truth from me—not from the internet.
Y/N (after a long pause): I appreciate you telling me. I’m... not ready to make sense of any of this or just fall back into how we were before. But I’m not ready to close the door, either.
Drew: That’s enough for me. For now.
Y/N: I uh, have to go. They’re calling me for places.
Drew: Okay. Knock 'em dead, rockstar.
Y/N: …Thanks.
Drew: I love you, Y/N.
Y/N: (pauses) …I know.

Also I'm sorry but do you genuinely think Trump is a fascist or that uniquely bad compared to other US presidents? Literally none of his policies are that particularly fucked up in the grand scheme of US politics. Not even in recent years. He is more blatant about being racist, and his target audience is fascists, but as far as his actions, he is very much a liberal. Also deeply annoying that many of you have an understanding of "liberal" as meaning vaguely civil and progressive, and therefore call liberal or even feudal systems fascist when they do genocide or slavery.
I get hating Trump, I get not wanting that guy to be your president, but the way people talk about Trump is like if he's about to set up a military junta and somehow voting will stop it.
A lot of people also bring up the "coup attempt" as proof that he will end democracy in the US or whatever and like two things:
1. Very notably, that happened after Trump DIDN'T win. Like he was not in power. There was no requirement for him to win to do that. Kinda how the whole thing started is some people were mad that he lost. He wasn't the president when it happened.
2. Do you think a bunch of idiots storming a building is how coups happen? Are you dumb? Do you think it's like capture the flag or control points or something? If shit was that easy, there would be a coup every other day.
The whole thing even only went as far as it did because the local police had sympathy for the those guys. If there's a point where there is popular support for a fascist coup within the military, you're fucked either way. If there isn't, and a bunch of disorganised idiots with only small arms try it, they're probably just gonna get killed by the national guard.
Like ok whatever you wanna vote for genocide Joe but at least stop having just a purely vibes based understanding of politics. 💀💀💀

There’s no denying it anymore.
You feel it all the time.
Every day.
Joe can do the most mundane thing, the absolute bare-minimum tiniest little thing, and you feel it swell within your chest before it slowly leaks into all of your limbs and drips out of your fingers and toes.
You knew it was going to happen this way.
Always thought that you’d blurt out the words Joe wanted to hear the most in a moment where it’d completely catch him off guard.
When he’d come back from a run and was aching to get into the shower. Or when he’d have a difficult time practicing his lines, frustration about to make him burst at the seams. Or when he’d be getting his make-up done before an event, and there’d be other people there, flustering him beyond belief.
You’d nearly said it once.
Joe had told you no.
This isn’t the time.
You had felt it in that moment, so so strongly, simmering beneath the surface, unspoken yet overwhelming. Since then, the moments had started piling up, and you’ve come to realise that… there’s a pattern.
Just when you think you’ve slotted Joe into the right box in your mind, something changes, and you feel it.
It’s disorienting, and… embarrassing, honestly. After years of knowing him, of learning how to anticipate his reaction to situations, his facial expressions, what he would say… you’ve learned that actually, you’re wrong. A lot. All the time.
He surprises you.
You adapt.
Little bit by little bit.
The puzzle pieces that used to make up Joe get replaced by new ones that you like a lot better.
But, you’re only human. And a first impression — as well as actual first-hand experience — is proving hard to shake. Some puzzle pieces are hard to remove. Feel like they’ve been glued in place. And sometimes you think you’ve replaced a piece, but then come to find out your brain has just stuck the old piece back in place. You’re smart, but it’s a difficult task to overrule your nervous system.
One wrong turn.
A sharp twist.
Snow in your face, your knee in agony. Later you realised you’d also bent your arms in a weird way in an attempt to break your fall.
None of your injuries were catastrophic, not even serious enough for a cast, but enough to cut the skiing trip short and keep you limping for weeks. Poppy said she’d never seen Joe take responsibility in the way he had.
Joe usually left a lot of things for others to decide. Would flow along with whatever everyone else thought was best without issue. But you were hurt, so, no, Mark. I know we have four days of trip left, but we’re going home, all right? I don’t care what she says, we’re not all taking a lift up a mountain and leaving her down here on her own.
You still blush every time you think back to how Poppy quoted Joe scolding Mark for suggesting you just stay in bed while they hit the slopes.
You’re mostly recovered now, able to walk, dance, and chase buses just fine. You easily forget that there’s a fragility there still. Something to be careful with. It’s why some days, some evenings, after hours on your feet in shoes not designed for support, the ache comes back.
Quiet and dull.
Not enough to make a real fuss over. Joe feels guilty enough about the whole thing to begin with. He doesn’t need the reminder, months later, that his idea – his decision to suggest a skiing trip in front of your friends, making it impossible for you to say no – had left you bruised and battered.
So you never really mention it.
You will easily hide rubbing a hand to your knee under the dinner table, and will swallow a wince when you stand up after sitting on the sofa for a while.
Joe doesn’t mention it either, so you presume you are hiding it well.
But then after a long Saturday of errands, you get back home to find Joe already there. In your kitchen. Your favourite throw blanket slung over his shoulder. Steaming mug of tea in his hand, and the microwave humming in front of him.
“Hey,” you sound surprised. “Wasn’t expecting you. Are you making dinner?”
Joe turns his head as he nods towards your sofa. “Go sit.”
The mental gymnastics it takes to replace one of Joe’s puzzle pieces with one that microwaves food proves impossible. There’s no way he’s microwaving food.
Turns out you’re right.
You let yourself drop onto your sofa quite heavily before bending over to take your shoes off.
When you sit back up, Joe’s there, both his hands full.
“Sit back,” he motions with his head. “Feet up. No, on the sofa. Both legs.”
You’re not quite sure what’s happening, but can’t help but smile whilst you do as you’re told.
“Take this. Careful, it’s still boiling.”
A hot mug of tea is cautiously handed to you.
You see how next, he reaches for the throw blanket that he’s still carrying over his shoulder and makes a whole show of shaking it out before he gently drapes it over you.
In the kitchen, the microwave beeps.
“What are you making?” you ask curiously, and Joe just smiles. Doesn’t say anything. Just tucks the blanket around your hips, looks at your mug until you take a careful sip, and then quickly jogs back to your kitchen.
It’s not food.
Joe doesn’t come back with food.
Before you even fully understand what he’s holding, Joe takes hold of the blanket by your feet and reveals your leg.
“Figured it might be one of those days,” he says and softly places a heat pack over your knee before he gently folds the blanket back.
And, fuck... that’s nice.
You don’t quite know how to react to any of this.
You didn’t know he was aware. That he’d noticed. And then he hadn’t even asked if your knee hurt… just knew it might, and cared enough to surprise you like this.
There’s a faint prickle of tears behind your eyes that you rapidly blink away, and you feel it then. You feel it inside of your chest, feel it in the warmth of the mug that you’re holding, feel it in the comfort of being taken care of inside of your own home whilst you didn’t even ask for anything.
You’re openly staring at him, and Joe just smiles as he sees the cogwheels turn in your mind. You need to take a deep breath to make sure your lip doesn’t wobble, and then busy yourself by taking another sip of tea.
“Comfy?” he asks, touching a warm hand over the blanket, making sure the microwavable heat pack’s in place.
All you can do is give a jerky nod.
He presses a kiss to your forehead and says something about dinner next, but you barely catch it. You’re trying too hard not to cry. Trying too hard not to say something too big for the moment.
And it aches, not to say it.
The words sit on the edge of your tongue, and you could so very easily give them to him now. You know he wants them, that much is clear, but there’s something holding you back, still. Something that makes you want to keep them to yourself, just for a breath longer.
Joe got to carry this feeling on his own for so long. He’d held onto it for ages, carried it as a secret he hadn’t even told Poppy about.
It only feels fair that you get to cradle it too, quiet and unspoken, before it becomes something shared.
Joe doesn’t make it any easier though.
Makes it really fucking difficult, actually.
You’re not sure if he’s even aware of what he’s doing, and the inner struggle that he leaves you with, but one night, he manages to get you stupidly close to breaking several times, you think he must know. That he’s just going out of his way for it now. That he can somehow sense that you’re close just from the look in your eyes and the blush on your cheeks and, just to put you out of your own-inflicted misery, will try whatever he can to pull you over that threshold already.
He manages to pull you right onto that threshold when you’re getting ready for a party.
You’re halfway done – hair up, earrings on, black strappy dress getting zipped up by Joe – when you frown at your own reflection.
Joe asks if anything’s wrong, and: nothing’s wrong. Not really. So you tell him, “Nothing…” as you tug on the hem of the dress, smooth the fabric over your hips, and turn to give your backside an uncertain glance.
Joe keeps quiet as he steps into the doorway, hands in his pockets, leaning against the frame.
“You know that other dress… my green one? God, that dress would’ve killed…” you muse. “But the zipper on that’s still busted, so… this’ll have to do.”
It’s honestly fine.
The dress is fine.
Your eyes keep finding things just slightly wrong about it in your reflection, and you sigh. One of those long, shoulder-dropping sighs. You’re trying not to make a big deal out of something that genuinely isn’t, but somehow, still kind of is.
This dress will look stupid next to what Poppy will be wearing. You will somehow look overdressed and underdressed at once.
When you finally peel your eyes away from yourself and give Joe a small smile, he suddenly frowns.
“Green dress?”
“Yea,” you turn and find a pair of heels to wear. “Remember the one I bought online a couple week ago? I broke the zipper when I tried it on so I couldn’t return it – not that I wanted to return it, it somehow fit me just right–”
“This green dress?” Joe interrupts you, having gone into your wardrobe to retrieve it. He’s holding your green dress by the hanger, twirls it in his hand to showcase how it’s zipped up, and… you’re not sure if you’re seeing that correctly.
“This green dress that I took to get fixed like… three days after you got it?”
You blink at it.
“This the one?”
At him.
“Hmm? Is this the dress you mean?” Joe’s doing a bad job at hiding a smug smile and his pride at being able to surprise you with something he thought you would’ve noticed much earlier.
It’s that stupid face that makes you feel it then. You feel it when you see how he goes a little soft when you stare at the dress that he then gently hands over. You feel it when he goes to unzip the black dress you’re still wearing, sliding the straps from your shoulders with careful fingers.
You make eye-contact in the mirror and nearly say it then.
Nearly.
Instead, you mutter a meek, “Yea, thanks.” that makes Joe laugh out loud before he tells you to hurry up, because Poppy is going to kill the both of you if you turn up late.
You quietly wonder how much more you’re able to take.
How much longer until feeling it turns into saying it.
Joe lets you cool off just enough before it happens again, just a couple of hours later.
The party over at Mark and Poppy’s was only small, and fairly casual if you went by Poppy’s definition of the word. At the end of the night, when it is just the four of you left, you find yourself in the kitchen to pour yourself a last drink.
You hadn’t heard Mark’s comment.
Hadn’t heard Joe’s response either.
You have only been out of the room for two minutes, but the shift in atmosphere is hard to ignore when you step back in. You can see how Poppy is pressing her lips together, hiding her face from Mark as she pushes her chin against her shoulder and looks at Joe with big eyes. It looks like she’s trying not to laugh, or say something stupid.
Mark looks a little miffed, and before you can audible ask what you just missed, Joe loudly clears his throat and asks Poppy something unimportant about a party guest you don’t know. Poppy immediately falls into conversation with him.
You give Mark a look.
What’s up?
He simply shakes his head.
Nothing. Don’t worry about it.
And just like that, the moment has passed.
You learn later, through a whispered chat with Poppy by the front door, that Mark said something about you that was… well, true, actually. Which makes sense, obviously. If there’s one person who knows you inside and out, better than anyone else you can think of, it’s Mark.
“You know what she’s like. She gets all twitchy if things don’t go her way.”
Mark hadn’t meant any offence – there was no malicious intent. He would’ve easily said that to your face, no problem. Just a light joke that probably would’ve made you punch his arm before making a similar statement about one of his flaws. The comment made Poppy snort, and Mark chuckled lightly before Joe cut him off.
Because Joe hadn’t laughed.
Apparently, Poppy said, he hadn’t even blinked.
“He didn’t say much, but…” Poppy whispers like it’s hot gossip she’s sharing whilst you sling your arms into your jacket. “He put Mark in place a little… told him that it wasn’t fair of him to say that, and that you get quiet when you’re nervous, not controlling. That he should know the difference.”
That was it.
It’s a weird bit of information to receive just before you’re about to leave.
You think you do get twitchy when you feel like you don’t have control over a situation. That’s actually a totally fair thing to say. Mark’s right. He’s your best friend who you feel is totally allowed to make an off-hand comment about you like that – you know you’ve said worse things about Mark without him in the room for that matter.
But somehow… Joe’s more right.
And Joe knew that.
And then he had said so out loud and had defended you even when you weren’t there to hear it.
That’s... strange.
Somehow difficult to fully accept.
You’re not sure how to respond to Poppy – she seems gleefully shocked at this… new development. What do you say to someone who’s just told you that her best friend, someone who used to hover at the edge of your life without really ever touching it, is now apparently seeing you more clearly, more accurately, than your own best friend?
When Joe and you leave, he doesn’t bring it up.
Just holds your hand and leads you down the pavement and tells you how you looked the best out of everyone tonight to which you say that you don’t care if you looked the best out of everyone tonight but then Joe says that you looked better than Poppy and Poppy actually looked fucking stunning, she always does, so you can’t help but smile as you feel a blush creep up your neck.
You don’t want to say I love you just because Joe’s saying nice things about you to your face and, as you’ve just found out, behind your back as well, but you feel it.
Your toes are slowly curling over the edge of the threshold and you know it’s not going to take much more than a little nudge for it to come spilling out.
It nearly does when Joe squeezes your hand a little tighter when you cross streets.
It nearly does when you can tell how he’s adjusts his pace a couple of times to make sure you’re not overextending your knee.
It so very nearly does when, suddenly, he takes a few jogging steps up ahead when you walk past a pub. Before he stops, you already know that he’s going to, and you slow to halt to witness exactly what you just predicted.
“Gelato?”
Joe stops right in front of the ice cream place, and in a flicker of a memory, you see Joe standing there in the exact same spot, holding the door open with the same hand, asking you the exact same question he’d asked you that first time.
Before.
Before, when you weren’t anything other than Mark and Poppy’s best mates that were forced to hang out together because they got given a job to do.
Before, when you were convinced Joe hated every second he had to spend in your vicinity because all he’d ever do was keep quiet and distant, and all you’d ever do in response was overthink every single little interaction you’d had.
Before, when you thought it was stupid and pretentious that he said ‘gelato’ instead of ‘ice cream’.
You still think that.
When he suggested getting ice cream that night, it was to make up for something dumb he’d said. You assumed he’d just tried his best to be polite – inviting you to get a sweet treat just to make sure Mark wouldn’t skin him alive.
“My treat.” Joe adds, echoing his former self.
Hit with a clear-as-day nostalgia, you give an exaggerated sigh followed by a massive roll of your eyes as you drop your shoulders.
“Fine.”
The small table you shared once before is taken, but if it hadn’t been, you’re sure Joe would’ve lead you over it in a bid to override that memory for a new, better one. Instead, you end up on the bench outside the shop, tubs of ice cream and plastic spoons in hand.
Joe’s quiet, like he was back then, but, it’s different now.
Now you get to sit really close to him, in your green dress, the one that he secretly got fixed for you, the sneaky fucker. Your whole side is pressed up against Joe’s, even though there’s plenty of space for three, maybe even four people, and if Joe didn’t need both his hands to have his dessert, he would’ve slung his arm around your shoulder to pull you even closer. When you jokingly attempt to scoot, pressing the two of you even tighter together, Joe grins and places his foot in between both of yours, casually twisting your legs together as he shovels hazelnut ice cream into his mouth.
“That was a weird day, wasn’t it?” Joe suddenly says.
“Weird?”
Joe gives you a sideways smile. “Well… yea. Loved it, and hated it.”
You watch as he thoughtfully swirls his little spoon about, before he continues, “I felt so awkward and embarrassed… I remember thinking, what the fuck, she’s actually having gelato with me.”
“Be normal and say ice cream.”
Joe leans forward a little and looks up at the big sign behind the two of you that clearly says Italian Gelato before giving you a pointed look. “It’s gelato.” Joe says sternly, brow furrowed, and you don’t take him seriously at all. You shove his shoulder with yours as you smile, eyes on your ice cream.
Ice cream.
There’s a moment of comfortable silence that you’re afraid to break, because you know Joe is slowly working his way through feelings he found stuck within this memory.
“Genuinely thought I’d fucked up beyond repair, that night.” Joe thinks back. “I remember offering you a bite because I didn’t really know what to say, and the second I did, I was already thinking, you fucking idiot…” he shakes his head a little as he smiles to himself and his voice softens when he says, “But then you took a small spoonful.”
“Offered you a bite of mine.” you casually interject through a mouthful.
“And you offered me, a bite, of yours.” Joe repeats it like every word weighs heavy with indescribable meaning. “You know what that did to me? After all I’d basically done ever since we met was make you feel unwelcome?” Joe eyes you for a moment, then tuts in self-disdain and has to look away. “God, you’re something else, you know that? And I’m an idiot. Clearly. Didn’t know how to fix months of me acting like a fucking dick, so I just… tried not to stare at you as I fell harder, and then went, here, have some, like that was the answer– Jesus, what was I even on, honestly?”
You think Joe’s mostly talking to himself at this point, but he’s doing a great job at transporting you back in time. You try picturing yourself, all awkward and unsure, stumbling through what you thought was your first ever normal conversation with Joe. And him— wanting so badly to say something different than what he did.
Joe’s right, that night was weird, but you think that maybe… yea. Maybe that night was the moment when something shifted. When something inside of you, something only small, changed the way you looked at Joe which, eventually, as luck would have it, snowballed into this exact moment, right here, right now.
Oh, wow.
Yea, that’s… that’s exactly right.
That night was when the first little puzzle piece got wriggled out of place.
The realisation sort of hits you like a freight train running and it makes everything come to a standstill.
“And then you just went– … you know I didn’t deserve that, right?”
Your ice cream melts unnoticed in your hand as you stare into space, and Joe gives you a slight nudge with his shoulder that pulls everything back into focus.
“Don’t deserve you…”
Your eyes meet his, and neither of you smile.
Not yet.
It settles between you. Something warm. Full.
You feel it, then.
Joe keeps surprising you.
You try to swallow around what’s stuck in your throat, but end up loudly clearing it instead.
Inside of your mind there’s a million things happening. You kind of want to tell Joe that Poppy told you what he said to Mark when you weren’t in the room. Want to tell him that going out of his way to do something kind for you, like taking a dress over to a tailor to get a zipper fixed, makes your chest ache with feelings you don’t know how to express. Want to tell him that, that night, ages ago, when Joe suggested gelato as a late night treat after you’d just stormed off, was the turning point that changed… well, everything.
You want to tell him that—
“I love you.”
Soft. Cracked. True.
You’ve hurled yourself right over that threshold.
You’re sat on a bench outside of an ice cream shop together, holding little tubs of melting ice cream that you’re eating with tiny, colourful, plastic spoons, and shut the fuck up, Joe’s heart is about to burst from his chest.
Everything has halted.
He’s looking at you, expression unchanging, and he’s quiet and calm as he lets the world catch up to him. Just like Joe didn’t rush you, you don’t rush him.
He just told you that he didn’t think he deserved your kindness all that time ago, and that he doesn’t deserve you now and then you just went and turned this moment into the most important one of his life.
Give him a second.
It takes a moment of just sitting shoulder to shoulder with you, and just when you start to think that maybe something’s wrong, Joe looks down and lets his eye fall on his melting ice cream.
“Joe—…”
You’re scared he’s forgotten how to breathe.
He slowly goes for a scoop of his hazelnut ice cream, seems to change his mind, but then goes ahead anyway. Then, instead of bringing it to his own mouth, he hovers it in front of yours.
‘I remember offering you a bite because I didn’t really know what to say.’
Your gaze moves from what he’s offering to his eyes, and can’t help the pursed little smile that tugs on your lips before you let them curl around the spoon and take the bite.
‘But then you took a small spoonful.’
It’s the cheesiest and most predictable move you can make, but with a mouth full of his hazelnut gelato, you do your best to gather a last spoonful of your mostly melted salted caramel.
‘And you offered me a bite of yours.’
Joe doesn’t even go for it.
Finds that the offer in and of itself is plenty and would much rather taste the ice cream directly from your mouth, right now, if he’s honest.
You just told him you love him.
You love him.
You love him.
He’ll beat himself up for this later, but he hasn’t even finished the thought that this means he’s allowed to say it back bef—
“I love you too.”

Oleander
Summary: Nine months ago you killed a man. Now you're sharing a drink with his brother. Life works in mysterious ways. tw: female reader, implied murder, captivity, dub - con, hate fucking, degradation, cruel reader
Sometimes you wonder if you’re a good person. It’s nice, almost, to lose yourself in meaningless philosophical battles in your own mind - it reminds you of high school, of balding teachers making you read Kant and Plato, raving on and on about dead men that will never come back to agree or disagree with the countless pages they made you write about them. It’s easier now, though - easy to lose yourself in semantics, to water down hundred years of morals and ethics into a simple question. Am I, the way I am, the way I’ve always been, good?
These thoughts always come back when the liquor hits your system. You can’t believe Devan let you drink with him tonight. He must be getting lonely, you realize. Your hands are too shaky and slippery to hold the glass, and you end up spilling half of it over your chest anyways. Your shirt soaks the liquor quickly, and the sharp smell of sanitizer makes you feel as if you’re running through a cold hospital corridor. If you squint, you can almost imagine the needle poking at your vein to draw fresh blood.
Devan watches you with odd fascination - as if you’re a child learning how to walk, and takes a sip straight off the bottle. Were you any less drunk, you’d be disgusted, yet now all you think about is how he’s drinking more and more of the bitter medicine, leaving less for you. And you need it. God knows you need it.
“Messy, murderous slut.” He mumbles under his breath, reaching out to you with a disoriented shake of his hand. “You ruined my fucking life, you know?” He manages to take a hold of your elbow. You flinch impulsively but his hold, in all its drunken angst, is unrelenting.
“You ruined your own life.” You intend your answer to be playful, but it comes out venomous. Maybe you both need some sleep - too bad the bottle is still half full. You pour yourself some more. “You’re 27 with no education, job or any support network. Even your parents don’t call you anymore, because, well… what even are you without him?” You let yourself get closer to the man - so close you can see his eyes illuminate in fear. His skin is warm like concrete melting under the sun. Tonight you are cruel. Tonight you are free - even as the tears fall down your freezing cheeks. “Admit it.” You inhale so quietly you barely feel your lungs. “You fucking love it.”
Even as his hand connects to your cheek in an audible slap, you can’t help running your mouth off. You are absolutely intoxicated - and the sting feels like a kiss to your lonely, untouched face. How long has it been since someone held you?
“You fucking love that your brother died, deep down. I mean, it’s the perfect excuse, isn’t it? You finally have a reason to be this fucking miserable.” Your smirk, filling up with glee - just like a child torturing a helpless ladybug on the ground, it’s so wrong yet feels so right. ”Besides being a lousy loser, of course.”
“How fucking dare you!” Devin flips you over with ease, throwing you on the ground. There is a raw, animalistic sadness in his big black orbs bleeding into his rage, and it makes it impossible to be scared. Even as his thick fist wraps itself around your throat, it’s hard not to burst into laughter. All the good hazy feelings take over logic and now the bleak feels like a big joke of nature. “Joe was… He… He was…” Everything, he tries to say, but his voice breaks into a pained howl and his breathing shallows before the word can roll off his colorless tongue. For a passing moment everything stills.
“It’s all your fault.” Your captor hisses weakly, his hand trembling around your warm inviting flesh. “I should have killed you that first day… that first night.” His fingers dance around your throat, carefully avoiding your jugular. “It would have been so easy. You do have a beautiful neck.” His voice lowers. “It wouldn’t be hard to–” He squeezes again - tight, tighter, and you see stars. “Maybe then I’ll finally be at peace.” He’s staring at you, intently, but it’s himself he’s talking to.
“Oh, please.” You roll your eyes. You can feel a certain fullness in your sides and a dull pain tugging at your collarbone from suffocation - but your mind can’t wrap itself around a single coherent thought other than to hurt him. It’s like the more you hurt him, the more it hurts inside you. “You can’t kill me.” There is no sass in your tone, no mischief - just plain cold acceptance.
Devin stops in his tracks to stare you down as if you’ve lost your goddamn mind. Then he laughs. He laughs so much his hand slips off your throat and you can finally breathe again.
“And what makes you so sure?” He finally collects himself enough to ask, leaning towards you. If anyone were to see you now, they would think you’re two lovers about to elope. “Because…” You avert your face away from his watchful eyes - there’s something about them, a wild flame that makes you sober up quicker than you’d like. “I’m the only person you hate more than yourself. If you kill me, the game is over.” You give him a sad smile. “And you’re all alone again.”
The man grabs your chin, forcing your lips to pucker up like a doll’s. “Like I need a fucked up bitch to keep me company.” He says, yet he keeps moving your head up and down as if he’s inspecting you for damage. As if he cares if you’re bruised, as if his fingers want to feel you for just a second longer. “Then let me go.” You bite back, and you watch his face go dark like a night sky. “No.” The boy - man shrieks, holding onto your arm for dear life. It hurts… but it’s also warm and tight - like an embrace, but not quite. “You deserve to suffer.” He quickly adds, pulling you closer to him. “Then torture me.” You add more fuel. “Do something. Anything.” You sink your teeth into his knees. “For once in your shitty miserable life do so–”
He kisses you.
You don’t know how to describe the kiss. It’s neither passionate, nor aggressive. It’s desperate, yet it lacks strength. It’s a rushed thing. It’s a memory reminiscent of summer - in a quiet village, after an atom bomb. His lips are the flowers that eventually bloom before they’re stomped by soldier boots. You’re the half - lit match that turns it all to ashes. Your bodies are meant for destruction, and that’s why they fit together perfectly.
“Let me have you.” He almost pleads once you separate, breathless, on the brink of insanity - as if he isn’t already there. His hands are on both sides of your waist, squeezing so hard it hurts, unstable fingers ready to grab and grope at any shape malleable enough.
“No.” You wince, but your eyes remain cold and challenging. “Fuck you.” Devin replies, roughly spreading your thighs apart. “Fuck you.” He repeats as he rips into your throat, dragging his teeth against your sweet spot, making you really feel the sharp points tearing into your soft vulnerable skin. The thought of leaving his mark on you makes his stomach turn - and it terrifies him. You try not to look down, but you hear his belt hit the ground and soon his pants follow suit - and then you sense it right against your entrance. Sticky slick whiteness coats your white panties as it drips from the purpling tip so full it might burst by the friction alone.
His hard length rubs along your wet slit and with clenched teeth you anticipate the burn of the stretch, the way he’ll rip your underwear from you, your last protective shield - but it never comes. Yet you see it move in and out, in and out of you rhythmically. You can feel his warm breath on the back of your neck, his rasp groans into your ear, his hands moving your torso back and forth like a carousel. You finally look down.
He’s fucking your thighs - through your panties, no less.
“Hold your legs together.” The man barks at you, but his voice is so needy you can’t help giggling even as he manhandles you around like a ragdoll. “T-tighter.” You squeeze your thighs snuggly against his cock - and you hope it hurts him more than it hurts you. You throw your head back, leaning on his shoulder as you jeer gutturally, letting it all out in systematic bursts of laughter that sound more like black cigarette coughs. Or puffs. “God, you’re so pathetic.” You lazily stroke his shaft as it peeks down your stomach, oozing with pre - cum. “I bet your brother would have fucked me like a real man.”
He moves your head to the side with a brute slap, kissing you sloppily anywhere but your mouth - but it still does the trick of shutting you up. “Too bad he’s dead.” He leaves a trail of wet pecks down your throat. Your stomach is sticky. You feel disgusting. “Guess you’re mine now.”
You roll your eyes.
“Dream on.”

Booth, who claims to have never been involved in disruptive protest and to have previously attended one peaceful Youth Demand march on Downing Street, said the arrest had left him with post-traumatic stress disorder. He said the officers who arrested him appeared to be surprised that he lived in supported accommodation for vulnerable adults. After a support worker let the police into his flat, an officer had grabbed his arm, he claimed, and asked whether “I need to put you in handcuffs” before reading him his rights. “They did not know until they turned up that I lived in supported accommodation,” claimed Booth, who is a cleaner on the London underground. “When they arrested me, they said to me: ‘Joe, is this supported accommodation?’ They didn’t know. You would think there would be a system in place when they are going to an address to say this is a care setting.” Booth was in his pyjamas when the police arrived. They searched his bedroom and seized his work phone. He was then taken on a two-hour drive to Kingston police station where he was questioned and held for more than seven hours. [...] Booth said the arrest, which will raise fresh questions about the overpolicing of protest groups, had seriously affected his mental health. He said: “Every time I hear noise in the corridor, even from a distance, I get scared that it might be police, especially when there’s a knock at my door, especially if that knock at my door is early in the morning. “But even if it’s just from support staff or Amazon delivery or whatever, I get scared that it might be police. So my alertness has increased and my anxiety has increased. And I see a therapist every single week, because I always have and he’s in full knowledge of how it’s been affecting me.”

Alex Woodward at The Independent:
Donald Trump is calling for a special prosecutor to investigate his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden, reviving an ongoing and baseless conspiracy theory that the results of the election were rigged and stolen from him. More than five years after losing in that year’s election, and after returning to the presidency a second time with his victory in 2024, the president has routinely pressed attempts to undermine the legitimacy of Biden’s presidency. “Biden was grossly incompetent, and the 2020 election was a total FRAUD!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Friday. He claimed “the evidence is MASSIVE and OVERWHELMING,” despite White House officials and campaign lawyers failing to produce any within the last five years. “A Special Prosecutor must be appointed,” Trump wrote. “This cannot be allowed to happen again in the United States of America! Let the work begin!”
The persistent lie that the election was stolen from the president fueled violence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, sustained partisan investigations intended to reverse the outcomes in states Trump lost, inspired Republican-led legislation in nearly every state to change how elections are run, and formed the basis of his 2024 campaign of “retribution.” There is no evidence of widespread or systemic voter fraud affecting the outcomes of the 2020 election.
[...] Trump’s false and inflated claims about election results, spanning more than a decade, have also sowed doubt among his supporters to construct the lie of “stolen” and “rigged” elections, animating Republican attempts to challenge results and craft legislation to do what the president and his allies failed to do in courtrooms in 2020. The president’s efforts to overturn his election loss are central to criminal indictments against his allies in several states. Trump himself was criminally charged with conspiracy and obstruction as part of sweeping federal investigation that was ultimately dismissed by now-former special counsel Jack Smith before Trump returned to office. The president also was criminally charged in Georgia, along with allies in the state and Rudy Giuliani, among others, for efforts to reverse his loss in the state.
Lyin’ Donald demands appointment of a special prosecutor to conduct a bogus investigation of the 2020 election results in which Trump has repeatedly and falsely asserted was “rigged” and “stolen”, all because he lost fair and square to Joe Biden.

The biggest labor union in Washington state endorsed voting “uncommitted” in the state’s Democratic presidential primary next month, citing concerns about President Joe Biden’s political strength and his support for Israel’s war in Gaza.
this is a good start, but unfortunately:
“Currently, many voters, and UFCW 3000 executive board, feel that the best path to have the best nominee, and to defeat Trump, is to vote ‘uncommitted,’” the union said in the statement. “The hope is that this will strengthen the Democratic party’s ultimate nominee to defeat Trump in the General Election in November.” “We need a nominee who can run and beat Trump to protect workers across this country and around the world,” the statement continued. The union made it clear that it will support Democrats in the fall, vowing it will be “sending staff, members, and resources to any swing state across the nation to support the Democratic nominee to win and defeat Trump.”
not far enough. the correct move would be to cut off support for the democratic party entirely, and, indeed, for the labor movement as a whole to stop getting roped into electoral political theater at all, and to work on building political power outside the electoral system. neither republican nor democrat politicians care about working class people, nor do they care about the people of palestine, and if we want to build worker power and stop genocide, we're going to have to think outside the ballot box.

Smth smth abt teen dad Daniel Ricciardo like Gilmore Girls teen parent, had you when he was way too young. Loves you unconditionally, would do literally anything for you but is probably less mature than you to be completely honest
There are definitely areas in which he’s lacking but at the end of the day, you love your dad just as much as he loves you. Sure, your nonna and grandpa Joe were/are a huge part of your life and support system but it was always you and dad against the world
He’d go away for work and races but he would always come back to you as soon as he could. You are always his number one. Nothing and nobody will ever outrank you on his priority list
With you in his life, he never really dated. Being who he is, there were rumors every so often of him being involved with whatever model of the week that he happened to stand too close to at whatever event (and maybe he did have a bit of fun behind the scenes but nothing serious. No one that he would ever bring home to you)
Side note: Scotty James is your godfather so Chloe Stroll is sort of your step-godmother n they both adore you, jokingly call you their "trial child" before they had thier first. (Your "approval" of Chloe was actually really important for Scotty because in any important way, you're family. He helped raise you, you're basically his kid too tho Dan will fight him if he says that out loud)
He was very middle ground on you getting into karting. He didn’t force you, he also didn’t forbid you. He’d told himself that if you asked him to do karting, he’d support you but he’d never make you do it
Anyway you’re a national champion at like 13 then a couple years later you're "like world champ or wtv it’s no biggie," or so your father /sarc told the first interviewer to ask him abt it after a video of him freaking tf out like running in circles and jumping up n down at the world championship when you won was circulating social medias
You get into F1 after he left and despite the shit show that was his departure from the sport, he would show up for you all the time at races, wearing whatever team's merch you were signed to. "Ricciardos (plural) in the paddock" became a thing when you were racing in F3 in the 2024 season and it makes the fans melt bc it's just so cute
I'm just imagining him pretending to be your bodyguard all dumb and goofy-like keeping other drivers and your staff back like "please step back ma'am don't crowd the talent" lmao him pushing your teammate back and them playing along "y/n! y/n, I'm your biggest fan! please!" That's a viral TikTok right there lol your social media team would capital L Love your dad
He is 100% you're biggest fan. No one's doing it like him when it comes to supporting you. There are compilations of him talking about you whenever the opportunity presents itself and he gets ribbed abt it all the time but it does nothing to dull his overflowing adoration for his kid

Star Wars, friends. I know this is not why you follow me, but please make this my most shared post.
You are here.
Tumblr media
We're living the lead-up to Revenge of the Sith, and it scares me so much a) it feels like there is so little we can do, and b) young people are acting as if there is nothing we can do.
If you don't know what's going on, I need you to wake up and get engaged.
I have two history degrees. My whole life I've always been the person saying, "When people say, 'This is the most important election ever," it just shows how little they know about history.'"
So please believe me when I tell you that THIS is the most important election (cycle, not just presidential race) that you will likely ever be a part of.
Trump is not Hitler. He's too stupid to be Hitler.
But our democracy only held together in 2020 because of a few people like Mike Pence who were willing to stand up against Trump when it was truly the last line of defense. I know that's hard for some of you to hear, but whatever you think of his beliefs, Pence showed he has integrity and stands by the Constitution.
There will be no Mike Pences this time around. Trump will not make the mistake of surrounding himself with those who are not fully committed to him.
Trump is a convicted felon. He is running to avoid his convictions and likely jail time more than anything else. If he wins, he will be able to pardon himself of his federal crimes, but he's going to keep acting like Donald Trump. If he's still alive in 2028, do you think he will leave the White House peacefully and just submit to further cases against him?
Please watch John Oliver's recent expose on Project 2025 and Trump's Second Term. It is linked in a comment below.
Trump and his administration are already putting in place plans for sweeping reforms that truly will make America look like The Handmaid's Tale. Presidents usually will push for more when they're in their second term because they don't have to worry about another election campaign, but this is different. This is about dismantling the democratic system so that it only benefits the most radical conservatives and Christians.
Christians, I am one of you. I was raised Evangelical (capital E meaning politically motivated culture warrior), and I am still evangelical (lower-case e, referring to theological beliefs). This is not the posture of Christ-followers. There is no good that comes from state-mandated religion, which both coerces people to claim that they are believers for social and cultural clout AND waters down the true religious fervor of the church because most people are only nominal believers.
There is NOTHING about Christian Nationalism that is in the best interest of Christians or in the best interest of the neighbors Christians are called to sacrificially love. If you need a reminder of who your neighbor is, read Luke 10:25-37.
Please start talking with your friends. Young people, please register to vote and bring your friends to do the same.
I know so many of you are disillusioned. I am too. Things that are going on in Palestine and Ukraine and so many other places make it very hard to vote for people with "D"s behind their names (especially after the recent presidential debate).
But punishing Joe Biden is not the revenge you want to pursue here. Are you unhappy with him giving Israel $12.5 billion? I am too, but do you think that number won't be repeated multiple times under Trump? Again, I was raised Evangelical. A staple of (politically-focused) Evangelicalism is that Christians (and thus America) must support (the modern state of) Israel no matter what because they have a hyper-literal understanding of the verse where God tells Abraham that he will bless those who bless him (including his descendants who became Israel).
Tumblr media
Do not underestimate the importance of that view in their ideology. Nearly every member of my biological family has shunned me for suggesting that this is not a blanket endorsement of every action the modern state of Israel takes.
Trump is a criminal running for president to save his skin. He supports Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel who is now himself wanted for war crimes. Trump has aligned himself with the authoritarian leaders/dictators of Hungary, China, North Korea, and Russia. He is open about his love for Russian president Vladimir Putin's authoritarian regime and stands against Ukraine's democracy and national sovereignty.
This is what happened before World War I and World War II.
I know this isn't what you follow me for.
But George Lucas was showing the dangers of authoritarianism. He shows that democracy is hard. It's frustrating trying to negotiate with people you disagree with vehemently. It may seem like nothing gets done.
Go and watch the Naboo picnic scene. Go and do it. And after chuckling at all the funny memes it's given us, let me tell you why it scares me so much.
Tumblr media
Because Padme laughs.
Anakin tells her who he is, and she laughs.
She passes it off as a joke, or as flirting, or maybe even as just the ignorant views of a boy who views life as far more black and white than she knows it to be.
But the alternative to all of that frustrating democracy, all that gridlock in the Senate, all those choices and compromises you have to make in order to benefit the people at all ... the alternative is a dictator who says, "I will make all the decisions for us."
That's why there are people who applaud Palpatine. That's why we as viewers see Bail and Padme as the reasonable ones and think it's crazy that anyone would applaud, but they do.
The applaud because Palpatine says, "You don't have to be frustrated anymore. You don't have to be worried about those who disagree with you anymore." Safety and security and ease are powerful temptations when you live in a polarized society, and Palpatine offers them all of those things.
Tumblr media
That's why many people applaud Trump, too.
There were also people who applauded Palpatine who did see the danger of what he was doing. But they applauded because it was easier to do so. He had already amassed power because they didn't stand up to him before. They applaud him now because standing against him now would have dire consequences they wouldn't have faced if they had stood against him before.
So vote. And get your friends to vote.
If there is any part of you that believes Star Wars has important things to tell us about real life, then I need you to fan that flame into a fire.
Otherwise, you won't be living in the prequels anymore. You will be living in the time of the Empire.
Vote.
