So…I show up for work an hour early to mitigate any issues with finding parking or navigation of downtown traffic. Am harangued by security on arrival, then told by the super I have to park on the street. A van with my home inside, in downtown, where all the ƃuıʞɔnɟ suoqqᴉƃʇᴉɥs break into vehicles as regularly as putting one foot in front of another.

So I find myself parking back halfway across town still in the open but away from downtown traffic. Set out to go to work and then I’m told I can’t show up at work unless I have some documentation for the new job. Can’t find the documentation so I have to go to the Social Security office. Social Security office can’t provide anything but a confirmation that one has been ordered. I didn’t have this issue the last time I went for a job. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I have a decent job with a hostile parking environment and compliance regulations I was only made aware of less than a week ago. I’m thinking this job is not for me or I think they’re just trying to force me out already for bringing the baggage being homeless comes with.

I'm so mad that post was misinformation because there is actually an EXTREMELY important conversation to have about the production schedules artists are forced into. There's no need for exaggeration, the conditions are bad.

I work for webtoon. My publication schedule is weekly. While publishing I'm required 10-15 pages a week. Fully colored.

This means I'm finishing a 150 page fully colored graphic novel every 10-15 weeks.

When my comic is not updating, I am not getting paid. Any time writing, editing, or off is out of my own pocket. I don't get healthcare. They do not provide any assistants. They expect me to promote myself; they chose to deprioritize me before I even launched and gave me an end date half a year in. I never had a chance.

And this is the industry standard! Every company has artists forced into crunch hours, overtime, and burnout. Artists are literally dying early due to it. So many of my friends can't afford to go to the doctor.

It's unsustainable and untenable, and it's also the expectation our audiences have.

If we want to have this conversation, there's plenty of conversation to be had with the realities of the situation. It's bad as is.

Its really interesting that Jimmy’s chair is the one tilted away from the screen in this shot:

It’s indicative of how his and Jimmy’s dynamic was. He’s not staring ahead at the screen, he’s not paying attention to what they are doing. Curly is the only one looking forward. Jimmy quite literally couldn’t see the responsibility Curly had or was doing. Jimmy likely slacked off and avoided most of his duties. I mean the one time we know he pilots the Tulpar he steers it wrong and loses the team 4000 credits. Even in the positions they held objectively, Curly was always taking responsibility for Jimmy. Not to mention the “We can fix this” and only one chair at attention. Jimmy never had intentions to fix anything, throughout the game, throughout his entire relationship with Curly. Curly always fixed it? Why would it be any different here?

If he even took the slightest bit of responsibility, he would’ve stayed in the cockpit to see his plan through. In the end Curly did what Jimmy always expected him to do for him and took responsibility. Did what he always did and took responsibility at the wrong time…

this is one of those fic ideas i wanted to write for every ship i've ever been into so it will probably never happen but i'd like to have a silly story with 40 yo, single, lonely tommy kinard who's been down on his luck all his life - like i'm talking ridiculous levels of mom dying at childbirth, dad being terrible, horrifically unfortunate experience of the military, a series of failed jobs, a series of failed relationships, friendships never sticking for long, risks he takes always going south, somehow getting paper cuts through chainmail gloves, missing the bus while trying to avoid his daily encounter with the neighbor's dog etc. - one day opening the door of his downtrodden studio apartment to this beautiful man who stands there like a fucking angel. who looks at tommy with big apologetic eyes, red cheeks of shame, and twiddling thumbs of guilt and stutters, "so, uhm, i wish you didn't have to learn it this way but hi, i'm the guardian angel who, as it turns out, misplaced your files about four decades ago, and so uhm it just resurfaced, haha, and like yeah, i've been banished here for penance. i'll take the couch, it's fine."

#then it's a series of fortunate events where buck's involvement in tommy's life as his suspended guardian angel/odd roommate #leads to tommy becoming friends with the diaz guy down the hallway #and that gets tommy involved with the 118 and him deciding to leave his temp job to become a firefighter like he wanted all those years ago #but couldnt risk with how accident-prone he was #him becoming friends with hen leads to him getting more confident in his queer identity #he takes eddie's son to a shelter one day and tommy adopts a dog who adds life and love into his house #and during all this buck is not even powered he's not doing anything special to make up for what he fucked up he's just being buck #he creates a family out of strangers for tommy and he motivates him into taking chances on a new job and he places new plants #on his windowsills and he attempts to cook human food and makes tommy laugh sooo hard at some of his original recipes #and tommy gets to love life and himself along with falling in love with this guy who he's 50/50 on whether he's a real angel or a madman #at the end when the heaven tells buck he repent his mistakes and he can come back #buck chooses to stay with tommy on earth and become a mortal for him #the end #bucktommy #911 #mimi.txt #my fic

Reminder to get your COVID booster when they're available. I kept putting off my next dose because of my schedule, and I've been out with COVID for eight days now.

Posting the symptoms I had to inform others as COVID is constantly evolving:

Day 1 (3 or 4 days after exposure): started as a feeling of "imminent sickness" in the back of my throat. I otherwise felt 100%.

Day 2: Extremely tired. Congestion. Limited all contact.

Day 3: 101 Fever. Congestion. Extremely tired. Couldn't make it through lecturing my class (remotely). Began medicating with Theraflu (acetaminophen). Tested positive for COVID with the fastest and clearest positive test I've ever seen.

Day 4: Fever between 99 and 101.5. Cancelled all activity. Spent all day in bed. Extreme congestion. Extreme aches & chills at night. This day was absolutely miserable. My friend brought me soup. I cried about it. Continued with Theraflu. Considered going to the ER due to severity of symptoms.

Day 5: Intermittent low-grade fever at 99.8. Congestion continued, coughing and sneezing began.

Day 6: Fever cleared. Coughing & sneezing intensified. Tested again as per CDC recommendations: still a strong positive. Began taking Robitussin (cough syrup only, no acetaminophen).

Day 7: Coughing worsened significantly. Lots of liquids, lots of Robitussin.

Day 8: Today! No fever, no cough, some slight congestion remains. Once again tested positive for COVID-- with a weaker positive this time! I expect I'll be back to normal by day 10, but... trust me, if you're going to get your "booster" through a needle or ten days of this, choose the booster! As a reminder, you can order up to 4 free COVID tests at the end of September through HHS.gov!

back when i worked at [large chain coffee store], i tried to unionize my workplace. my manager sat me down and gave me a very guilt trip-y talk. lots of "but i thought we were a family :(" and "you don't *really* know what unionization does, do you?" i played dumb and managed to avoid being fired, but. chilchuck momence.

Meet Hyakinthos Athanasiou (Ὑάκινθος Αθανασίου), The Halcyon Mortician! Prefers he/him or it/its, doesn't mind she/her (ancient Greek equivalent of "any pronouns") ~1880yrs old (born in the Greek Hellenistic period, either fell with the second city or descended to it) Hellenic polytheist, as you could probably guess. Mostly reveres the Theoi Khthonioi (especially Thanatos, Hypnos, and Hermes) given his current living situation, but still prays to the Olympian gods when he feels the situation requires it. Patient, warm, kind, and deeply weird from being alive for so long. He specializes in the death and burial rites of ancient times, and of as many cultures as he can. Keeps meticulous records thereof so that whether you're from the first city or the fifth, you can rest easy knowing that if and when you finally die in this cavern in the earth, your body will be treated with the respect your culture indicates.

Just some thoughts about recent WEBTOON discourse from an originals creator. I recognize my inherent bias in this situation.

But please recognize that saying "fuck you" to a company means supporting the workers, not making them out to be unfortunate suckers... "would have/could have/should have's" don't get people out of situations.

"I never would have signed with them" is an incredibly tone-deaf thing to say. "this is why you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket" is true, but it doesn't help people who are contractually obligated into exclusivity.

Most of us are making merch, running patreons, trying to get book deals, etc... and most of us aren't able to stop working and still pay our bills. we're trying. we'd all love to, but we can't.

If you really want things to be better, maybe try not putting down the people who are in the bad situation? it ends up feeling like people using our pain and mistreatment as an outlet to advertise themselves...

Our company is getting worse and worse by the year and we're risking a lot to talk about it! Please listen! The only power we have is complaining about things, and it's risky every time!
