Schmol Solomon headcanon... but it's longer than I thought it'd be, whoops...

Solomon, who visits cemeteries all over the human realm just to feel closer to his humanity. He'll take his time to walk through all the rows of headstones, reading each one and imagining how those buried lived their short mortal lives; if they had regrets, if they loved to the fullest, if they had accomplishments, or if they righted the wrongs they may have caused in others' lives before their own time was up.

On occasion, he'll look into old archives and find some records of the names in the cemeteries to learn more about the people he had been protecting without ever knowing of their existence.

This past time of his slowly turned into an odd, but niche hobby. The really old tombstones - the ones that have clearly been neglected as time moves on to the point that no one recognizes the name engraved or recalls the life lived - Solomon washes them, ridding them of the moss and discoloration built up over many years. The faded stones are polished to perfection, now looking as if they were brand new. Anyone visiting the graveyard while he's there cleaning will see him seemingly talking to himself, but really he's keeping the soul of the grave he's cleaning company - whether he's able to get in contact with them or not.

It's his way of intimately contributing to humanity without ever getting attached to the living. It's his way of understanding the intricacies of mortal nature, of truly understanding through the deaths of others what life truly means for a human. And it makes him feel closer to the realm he vows to protect.

About Archive Locking

I wanted to post this in case it was helpful for other authors.

So there was a lot of debate about whether to archive lock your works a few months ago when it became common knowledge that Ao3 was scraped for the AI writing bots

I locked mine at that time and will keep them that way from now on. And here's why:

The engagement on my work is higher quality. I still have a steady stream of kudos coming in on my older works, and I get less empty hits now. Comments are my favorite thing but the vast majority of those come from logged in users!

For me, this is a win win situation. I still get kudos and comments but I have at least some protection from harassment and being scraped.

And honestly, I don't think I want engagement from users who can't even be bothered to make an account. It's the bare minimum and my work is worth more than that

I think I'll take a crack at explaining this as a Solomon lover :)

I think Solomon stans are protective of him due to him being so widely hated during the OG's time. I didn't join the fandom until 2022, but even then it was rare to find a fellow Solomon lover in the wild. Since NB, that's changed a lot, he's more widely enjoyed now, but I guess for some there's a knee-jerk response to seeing hate, like a "I thought we were past this" kind of feeling.

Hating Solomon isn't wrong. You are allowed to have your thoughts and opinions. The issue occurs when haters make up asinine headcanons and make them seem canon or dislike them for outdated, inapplicable reasons. It just spreads hate and misinformation, which becomes problematic for everybody involved. Not everyone has the sense to decipher what's real and what's not, thanks to the media literacy crisis we're in, so people take at face value others headcanons or poorly expressed takes (that could be spun in favor of hate, if that makes sense), and preach them like they're gospel. This applies to all characters, not just Solomon (but lord, have I seen it most with him). Moments like those make fandom spaces toxic. If you hate for reasons that are canon, I don't see why that's a problem, just be respectful about it.

I think another issue is that haters tend not to be respectful. They approach a character tag with disdain for that character, write out a post that implies they're morally better for disliking said character... Yeah, expect some pushback challenging those beliefs. I've seen this the worst with Solomon. Fans are allowed to come into your comments and reblogs to defend their faves, just as you're allowed to post hate. Both sides need to be civil and not have their hackles raised before confrontation even happens though. Hostility in these cases are not mutually exclusive to one side or the other.

At the end of the day, fans of characters don't have to engage with hate posts, and shouldn't if it distresses them (block and move on in those cases). And they should never get violent or threatening towards you for your opinions, that's unacceptable. At the same time, as a hater, you are willingly putting yourself out there to have your thoughts read and challenged. People are going to make opinions and assumptions, and that's something you can't control. The only thing you can control is how you react. And from how this confession was worded, anon already seems slightly defensive in their perception of how they will be perceived, so if you post passive aggressively, most of the time, people will respond in kind.
