Cobb fell to the ground as the citizens of Freetown looked on with fear in their eyes.
The Duros turned coolly and walked away, despite the midday heat as Jo made her way over to their Sheriff.
"Still breathing." She acknowledged under her breath, but her fears weren't exactly alleviated; Cobb had a weak pulse as his body dropped into shock from the injury.
She lifted her head to see her own fear reflected back in the eyes of Taanti. "Alive, but..." she trailed off, unable to finish her sentence as she shifted back. Beside her, the town's medic took over, but her grim expression failed to provide any hope.
"We fightin'?" Taanti asked, in a voice that clearly stated that it wasn't really a question.
She nodded silently, forcing herself to stand and leave Cobb on the ground. Cobb had wanted to fight, always easily charmed by the Mandalorian, so she would take up his fight. The effects of any instability in Mos Espa would billow out towards their little oasis too.
If Cobb died, she didn't want it to be for nothing.

Cobbert's Masterlist
Long overdue, here's the masterlist for all my works!
Listed from the most recent to the oldest.
The Mandalorian
Family, and other Oddities (Oneshot, light background Din Djarin/Cobb Vanth)
Contrary to common beliefs, Din Djarin has not always been a lonely man. Some might say, he never was.
Little Stories From a Strange Life (Multichapter, occasional light Din Djarin/Cobb Vanth)
My participation to Dincember 2023! There be moments heartwarming and heart wrenching, heartbreaks and heart flutters.
A Crown of Glistering Thorns (Multichapter, WIP, non-slash)
It is rare, for massifs, to adopt a stray pup. Rare, although not impossible. Din Djarin knows this, because his papa has two he had bought from the neighbor to help herd and guard the sheeps on the farm. On a cold winter morning, he'd entered the barn to find the female had taken an orphan womp rat kit under her wing. She raised it as her own, defending it with all fangs out and nursing it back to health. It was such an exceptional display of natural compassion, his papa didn’t have the heart to point out she probably was the one who devoured the mother womp rat in the first place. The memory swirls around the boy’s head as he stares up at the wall of silent armors and even bleaker T-visors looking down at him from where he’s curled around his rescuer’s leg. They are evaluating him, and during this very long minute, Din isn’t quite sure of the role he is going to fill: the baby womp rat nibbling at a crumb of hope, or its mother about to be eaten whole. ----- Twenty-two years ago, Din Djarin died. Four actors, five acts.
Dincobb-centric fanfics
Dawn is a Mother to Needful Beings (Smut)
There’s luxury in laziness, Cobb Vanth is reminded as he watches Din sleeping soundly by his side, an hour past their usual get up time. He gazes at the wide expense of his back where the sun rays have yet to hit. Din twitches in his sleep; Cobb wonders what kind of adventures he’s living in there. From the lack of tension in his trapezes, it’s not a nightmare. Maybe a memory. Just as Cobb reaches across the mattress to brush his fingers against the bit of skin where his shirt racked up, Din wakes. --- Din kisses Cobb good morning. Cobb gives him head. They're in love and all sappy about it.
Second Floor Story (Modern AU)
The task was pretty simple: water the plants, feed the cats, make sure nothing exploded while Jo was gone. Now, Cobb's knee would never survive the five floors climb, but hey, that's what elevators were made for, right?
Silly Things to be Basking In (Snippet)
In which Din receives unprompted affections, runs hot, and pines a whole lot.
Nowhere Lane (Modern AU, Multichapter, WIP, in hiatus)
39 is a cruelly anticlimactic year of life, Din Djarin has come to realize. Especially for one trying to rebuild a life from the ground for himself and his 18 months old toddler and attempting not to lose his sanity in the meantime. 44 is the perfect year for a midlife crisis, Cobb Vanth has come to realize. Especially for one who was quick to find out forced retirement is nowhere near as fun as it sounds like, nor do the inevitable struggles coming with it. These cheerful characters have something incredible in common: they both visit the old Taanti's bar on friday nights. That, and maybe a few other things.
Third Table by the Bar (Oneshot)
Din knew he had been fooled the moment he saw that lanky figure stepping through the cantina's entrance. Then the helmet came off, and for as little of a surprise it felt for Din, what left him dumbstruck was what he found under it. --- Each time Din visited Freetown, he found three things: a drink, a dusty table, and a Marshal taking him for a dance.
Fury (2014)
*Note: I am no longer writing for this fandom, but I'll still link my last fic as it is a classic of mine.
Timeless (Multichapter, non-finished, dead fic)
October 1945. Already six months since the elite tank crew once called the ''Fury'' was drafted back to the United States. Now scattered across the vast country after months and months of being closer than brothers, adapting to the sweetness of a normal life quickly resumed to be much more of a challenge than any of them expected. So what happens when a retired sergeant with only war left in his heart and his former bow-gunner end up having their lives intertwining once again, despite all odds? A dizzying waltz during which mix together the worst of turmoils, the deepest of friendships, and the sweetest of heartbreaks. Because real love never dies, but so does those scars that never completely heal.

Submitting for #Fandom Friday:
Star Wars - The Book of Boba Fett
On the Dome by @btwxsixesandsevens
You want a rare pair? I got a rare pair for you with this short, sweet, ficlet featuring Drash & Jo, after castin’ looks during a shootout in Freetown, and Fennec making a way for them to have a bit of alone time during the victory party.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/37194733
and
Marvel - The Falcon Captain America and The Winter Soldier / Arcane (“for the vibe and premise”—author)
hopeful by @philtstone
https://archiveofourown.org/works/36709789/chapters/91574479
This s a SarahBucky AU, but it basically centers on Sam Wilson and the aftermath of things going terribly wrong, plunging the nation into police state, and superheroes/powered individuals go into hiding.
I had never heard of Arcane, but I jumped into this dystopian world immediately after I read the brief prologue helluva kick-off that ends:
Sam pulls his arm back and throws.
Settle back and enjoy.
OOOOOH I love the concept of both of these so much. Hell yeah for victory kisses and acting on feelings when you're basking in a win. And also, as someone who LOOOOVES Arcane (it's on Netflix and I HIGHLY recommend it. Season 2 coming out this year), I think this could work so well with a Captain America type of AU. These are both such great ideas! Thanks so much for sending them in!
Participate in Fandom Friday to show your favorite creators from this week some love! :)

Concept Art by Christian Alzmann, depicting Krrsantan attacking Boba Fett in the Daimyo's sleeping chamber. Image from The Book of Boba Fett, Season 1, Episode 3, The Streets of Mos Espa. Calendar by DateWorks.
Grogu just didn’t understand how two people as skilled in their respective crafts could end up being so at odds with one another. Krrsantan had all the natural advantages of being a Wookiee and the training of a warrior to back him up in gladiatorial combat, refined further by having lived through all the horrible things the Empire had done to his home world of Kashyyyk and the things he had to do to survive all of that.
Boba Fett was the son of a renowned Mandalorian warrior, Jango Fett, who was the template for all of the clones that fought in the eponymous Clone Wars, on behalf of the Galactic Republic (until it fell of course, but that’s another story). Jango Fett had been widely regarded as the best bounty hunter in known space and his son so very clearly followed in his footsteps. Skilled in hand to hand combat, the use of a wide array of weapons, and with the single minded focus that can only be obtained through the trials of the Sand people, Boba Fett was just as renowned and skilled as Krrsantan.
So why couldn’t they just be friends? It seemed absurd. Fennec had told him the story of Krrsantan attacking the Daimyo and how the fight went. The Daimyo won, more or less, and not without injury, and Krrsantan was captured and subject to substantial humiliation, as Grogu understood how Wookiee’s took incarceration. Grogu just didn’t believe her. He’d turned to the Daimyo who said that Fennec had been completely accurate in her telling of the events of that fateful day.
That also seemed absurd. The Daimyo and Fennec didn’t often agree completely on the details of an event like that. Fennec was often accused of stretching a truth and the Daimyo was laughed at by her and typically subjected to a piercing question that had to do with why he had spent even more time than usual in his bacta tank. None of that happened this time.
Grogu was determined to get to the truth of the matter and asked his dad to take him into Mos Espa so he could discuss the matter with Krrsantan directly. Din Djarin agreed, but only because he’d heard that Jo and Cobb Vanth had come into Mos Espa and he wanted to talk to them both. He didn’t say why he wanted to talk to them, but that didn’t really matter to Grogu. He wanted to go to Mos Espa and he was going to Mos Espa.
Grogu was happy to see that all the damage that had been done during the conflict with the Pykes had been repaired or replaced and the people of Mos Espa seemed pretty happy that the outcome of that conflict had been to remove all the syndicates and the people working for them. The Mods and some of the folks from Freetown who elected to remain in Mos Espa, kept a kind of friendly eye on the city and disputes were handled through a judicial process that fell under the aegis of the Daimyo. The city had turned a corner and Grogu, for one, was very happy about that.
Now he just needed to find Krrsantan. But given who he was traveling with the first people they met with were actually Jo and Marshal Vanth. Grogu greeted them both very politely, waited for their return greetings and then asked if either of them had seen Krrsantan, while his dad went off to use the privy. Neither of them had, but one of the people at the cantina they met at had overheard the exchange and commented that Krrsantan had gone to the leather worker’s shop two doors down.
Grogu chirped a quick ‘Thanks’ and was off like a fathier on Cantonica. He didn’t want his dad slowing him down or telling him the questions that he had for Krrsantan were rude. Grogu and the Wookiee had met on several other occasions and had developed a friendship of sorts with each other. Grogu was certain that Krrsantan wasn’t going to do anything to hurt him.
That’s how he happened to be sitting on Krrsantan’s shoulder, admiring a beautiful piece of leather work and commenting on style choices when the Mandalorian burst into the shop a full five minutes later.
“Din Grogu, you need to apologize to Krrsantan for taking up his valuable time. Then you need to apologize to Vanth and Jo for just running away. Then you need to apologize to me for running away.”
Din Djarin was tapping his toe and his tone of voice had that bounty hunter frost coloring it. Grogu was a breath away from being brought in cold.
Fortunately for him, his Wookiee friend seemed to understand the problem and reminded the Mandalorian that Grogu was his friend. Of course that sounded like barks, growls, and a couple of shrieks, but even Din Djarin understood it for what it meant. Fortunately.
“Okay. I understand. You two are fine. I appreciate that. I do.”
The Mandalorian’s hands were up and he took a full step back to give them both some room.
“Grogu, I’ll be over in the cantina talking to Cobb. Come over there when you two are done doing whatever you’re doing.”
Grogu nodded his head and then barked a comment to Krrsantan who laughed.
Grogu had only needed to ask one question of the big Wookiee to understand what had happened between him and the Daimyo. Krrsantan had answered it and Grogu was satisfied with his answer. After that Grogu offered to help him with his shopping, which was what they were doing when his dad showed up.
Oh, what was the question?
‘Why had Krrsantan not done more damage to the Daimyo?’
Of course the answer made the difference.
‘When your opponent is more honorable than the people who hired you, you are the one who errs.’ Or words to that effect.
Of course he might have said, ‘I didn’t want to clean up that mess’.
Grogu was still learning Sheriiwook.

Radio Freetown | a Cobb Vanth x Din Djarin fanfiction
Rating: M
Tags: Din Djarin/Cobb Vanth, Long-Distance Relationship, Enough pining to run a logging operation, Loneliness, Copying Mechanisms, Not Canon Compliant, Touch-Starved Din Djarin, Badass Cobb, the vulnerability of late night talks, Non-Linear Narrative, Happy Ending
Summary:The idea of an independent radio station is born in the wake of the third annual celebration of the liberation of Freetown. Like most births it can trace its origin back to a union; in this case the unfortunate coming together of Cobb Vanth, the town marshal, and Taanti's homebrewed desert plum and cacti hooch in the saloon that is owned and run by the Weequay.
Chapter 5
[...] A shout from the rooftop draws Cobb's attention. Todd is gesticulating and pointing, but it's not the krayt he's pointing at. There's a lone figure racing towards the town, the swell of the dragon's bulk growing larger behind it. Cobb feels the blood drain from his face and he rushes out, knocks a few people aside in his hurry to get to the platform's edge.
He can see her better now, brown robes and a head of dark hair, running for her life. Behind, the villagers begin to shout encouragement. But she is still a good two hundred paces out and the dragon is closing in fast. Cobb feels cold sweat run down his back.
No…
This cannot be happening…
Cobb's mind goes blank, blood rushing in his ears. This is like one of those dreams, where he stood by and watched –
No. No no no no no…
A hundred paces. And less than half the distance there was between her and the dragon. She will never make it.
"Stop!" Cobb shouts but she doesn't appear to hear him. He rarely has to raise his voice to make himself heard, but he's still their marshal and has a grown man's volume. "JO STOP!" Cobb bellows and she skids to a halt and looks at him with wide, terrified eyes.
"Don't move!"
More of the dragon's bulk emerges, ready to strike. It will be upon the town in seconds and Jo's still right in its path.
He'd promised her parents he'd look after her if anything happened to them. He'd sworn.
.
Read the full chapter here.
[A.N. last of the reblogs; if the muses and real life are kind to me, I'll manage an actual update before the end of the month ]

Fennec.
Fennec Shand is handsome, clever, and rich, and rules the town of Mos Espa alongside her best friend, the Daimyo Boba Fett. Since consolidating their control of the sector, there has been little to distress or vex them.
Fennec-Emma AU, featuring Boba/Fennec, Jo/Drash, Din/Cobb, some slight Fennec/Bo-Katan, and implied Bo/Koska but now that I have the Nitearmor bug that may be included too 🤭 this is just an outline but these are two of my favorite things, Star Wars and Jane Austen lol
I highly encourage anyone who has not yet seen Emma. (2020) starring Anya Taylor-Joy to witness its excellence.
- (This is all because I accidentally put “I’ll dance with you, if you’ll have me” in another fic lmao)
- Fennec as Emma
- Boba as Mr. Knightley
- (they’re kind of both Emma and both Mr. Knightley, and also both kind of Mr. Woodhouse) (Boba moreso though)
- The people of Mos Espa are the broad concept of Mr. Woodhouse? Somehow.
- The Majordomo as Bartholomew the long-suffering manservant?
- Din as Harriet (Because he is The New Girl, & kind of also Jane Fairfax, because he is also Mysterious and That Bitch)
- Cobb as Robert Martin (he already is kind of Boba’s tenant farmer)
- Taanti as Mrs. Martin Senior
- The Tuskens who helped with the Kryat dragon as the Martin sisters
- the Armorer would be Mrs. Goddard…
- Paz as one of the schoolgirls (lmao)
- Drash and Jo as Miss Taylor and “Ms.” Weston
- Boba gives Drash away at the wedding and is beside himself with joy
- though he does do a bit of "poor Miss Taylor"-ing about how Drash is moving to Freetown
- Din asks, “Who cried most?” (it was Taanti)
- (Din wasn't there bc he had to go get the Armorer and Paz) (and I guess Ragnar’s there too)
- Peli as Miss Bates
- (and R5 as Mrs. Bates)
- (I’m thinking like the 2020 version where Mrs. Bates doesn’t talk at all until the very end and then won’t shut up)
- The other gotras would be the Coles etc
- The Modifier as Dr. Perry
- DENGAR AND MANAROO AS JOHN AND ISABELLA
- We can probably throw Bossk in there for no good reason for the Christmas Life Day dinner scene
- Highbury is Tatooine broadly/Mos Espa specifically
- The Palace is Donwell Abbey ... and also Hartfield
- The Parish is like, the abstract concept of (Bo-Katan's version of) the Mandalorian Way
- Brighton (or is it Bath he goes to??) is Mandalore?
- London is Coruscant ofc
- The Churchills’ estates are the abstract concept of the Jedi order
- Ford’s would be Garsa’s sanctuary
- BO-KATAN WOULD BE MR. ELTON (broadly)
- The portrait would instead be Bo-Katan suggesting to Din (& maybe Boba’s there too) that they make Fennec a cuirasse & new helmet (not of beskar, but at least in the Mandalorian style)
- Carriage scene, “I was flirting with Din for political reasons, for the darksaber! I was trying to get you to like me to get close to Boba! I don’t care about any of you, I only care about Mandalore!”
- All her other Mando gang would be Mrs. Elton, being kind of annoying and disrespectful & weirdly familiar to Mr. Knightley but also the best/funniest part of the whole thing
- Luke would also be both Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill… Because he is Also Mysterious and That Bitch
- All the secret Jane Fairfax shit is Luke keeping all the Jedi stuff/his Skywalker backstory kind of secret
- Leia and Han as Miss Campbell and Mr. Dixon!
- the seaside incident = the Sarlacc incident???
- (I mean Han has saved Luke’s ass so many times—“that’s two you owe me, junior”)
- Luke letting Grogu go back to Din would be the pianoforte…
- GROGU IS THE PIANOFORTE
- Everyone (at least Bo-Katan) assumes it’s some kind of rescue mission or ultimatum by Boba but no, Luke let Grogu choose
- Luke did Din a great service!! (rescuing Grogu!!) (LIKE FRANK & HARRIET AND THE TRAVELERS)
- this situation would be the Travelers Incident (=> The Pity Dance) = Hearing Grogu's Call (=> Letting Grogu Choose)
- And then Boba (Mr. Knightley) can get over his dislike of Luke (Frank Churchill) since he helped Din (& Grogu) (Harriet)!!!
- any flirting with Fennec would be all Luke "I'm pure sunshine, charming naturally" Skywalker
- we shall have our ball indeed...
- Mr. Knightley sending his carriage would be Boba going to personally pick up Din, Cobb, Drash, & Jo from Freetown for their little event...
- Still need to include the Mr. Knightley singing with Jane scene
- ....but would this be Luke or Din as Jane?? 😱 THIS WOULD BE DIN, THEY'D BE SINGING A MANDO SONG
- AND BO-KATAN WOULD BE LIKE 😡 that should be me...
- The Strawberry picking outing at Donwell Abbey would be some kind of Mandalorian holiday…
- Boba just hangs out with Din the whole time, ignoring Bo-Katan, who is trying to set Din up as a governess/journeyman for her kind of Mandalorian (maybe even to help take care of foundlings??) so she’s heated
- Luke arrives late and is like 🤷♀️ I’m not a Mando, guess I'll leave
- Fennec is like, I’m not either, but Boba invited you to show favor to Grogu & by extension Din
- (He wanted to sit down with Din & Bo-Katan & Boba and explain about Tarre Vizsla, how Grogu can walk the way of the Mandalore while still following Jedi teachings, but the vibes are atrocious)
- He says, when I am missed… tell the others
- Fennec is like, okay fine, leave then
- Luke is like [shocked Pikachu face]
- Box Hill as a pod race instead???
- Fennec says something [unintentionally] nasty to Peli about how junk can still win
- It’s only funny when Peli says that herself…
- Of course Din takes Peli's side, so Cobb does too
- Even the Mods are like, be careful what you call junk...
- Badly done, Fennec!
- she sulks in the tower...
- Boba cheers Peli up by lettering her work on his “antique” (he grits his teeth when he says it ... but for real that ship has been around for a while lol)
That’s all I have for now, but I’ve been stewing on this for like a year.
@daimyosprincess @pickleprickle I feel like we are feeling the same wavelength here!

Referring to an earlier post of mine about a possible connection between Cobb and Korkie.
This is a preview of a One shot, it's just a few fragments scattered throughout the story.
Obviously the theme has to do with it is always Dincobb 😍
-------->
"We need more men...", she whispers with some ideas.
"We're rounding them up, but it takes time", Din replies.
The Mandalorian princess's thoughts turn elsewhere, while the others go about their business. There is one who could help her, who has stayed out of all this.
*
"Good morning Foreigner", Jo greets her cordially but handling the rifle with care, "Welcome to Freetown, excuse our mistrust, but what brings you to the city?".
“I'm looking for the marshal", she says bluntly and the young woman wonders if all Mandalorians are that blunt and if Cobb gives off some sort of aroma or hormone that draws them to him like womp rats with syrup.
"For what exactly?".
"He sends Din Djarin to me with a gift. My stay will not be long as I have duties to return to".
Jo looks her up and down with a raised eyebrow, she was under the impression of her that she had told him half truth and half lie.
"Mando's friends, they're ours too", Cobb's voice gets the two women's attention.
And the Mandalorian in blue is frozen staring at him, all the while the marshal approaches reassuring Jo and beckons the newcomer to follow.
The young woman curiously notes that the determined and relentless steps the Mandalorian has taken since she stepped off the ship have become hesitant and shaky.
*
She takes off his helmet wanting to observe that face so aged with his own eyes.
He doesn't hold back. She doesn't hide her emotions from him, it's been so long. And, from the marshal's expressions, she understands that they are a mirror of each other's emotions.
"Korkie...", Bo whispers thinking he must be almost 50 now, his parents were 18 when they conceived him, Korkie Kryze was born in 39 BBY.
Counting with his parents, Korkie was 39 when his father died. He's now he's 47, the age on his face roughened by desert life, giving him more wrinkles and years than he should have.
The marshal sighs, he was a boy the last time he saw her, now he's a man.
"I haven't heard that name for a long time, ba'vodu", Cobb smiles at her and now Bo-Katan is sure of it, it's her sister's same smile
*
And that I was hoping it was just a courtesy visit, but there never was any courtesy with you. Just duty and struggle,” sighs Cobb taking a long swig of spochtka, “Why do you need me? From the rumors that reach me of your war quite a few Clan have joined Mando and his cause".
"Do you know about his role as Mand'alor?".
"I try to stay informed, I never thought the past would come back to haunt me here too. I've tried to erase it and stay away from it".
Bo laughs shaking his head, "You're a terrible liar and a hypocrite. If you really didn't care, you wouldn't be listening to anything Mandalorian news and you wouldn't have taken Fett's armor beyond your need".
Cobb opens his mouth ready to argue, but then closes it forcefully baring his teeth. Why did he always find the right spots to hit him? Even his mother had a great talent in this.
"I don't want to go back for a people who allowed a woman like my mother to die, in a sense they killed her. And the Mandalorians never change, they are always there ready to go back to old habits and violence. They don't know how to do anything else".
Bo-Katan shakes her head, "Not all Mandalorians are like that, not even yours Mando or you would never have given him Fett's armor back."
"Why are you here, aunt?", Cobb cuts short.
"Don't you know?", the red-haired woman looks into his eyes, "Many remember you and your actions against Maul and some consider you the true heir of Mandalore by birthright. They also remember other feats that you accomplished in those years and you were just a kid, imagine what you could do now".
*
Cobb grimaces and bites his tongue not sure how to answer her. If there's one thing he wants to keep from each other it's the life of Korkie Kryze with the life of Cobb Vanth.
"This belongs to you, bury it or sell it. Do with it what you will, but I ask you only one thing, think about it".
Bo-Katan gets up from his seat, not giving him time to retort, "No one knows I came here, no one knows you are alive and deeply connected with the marshal of Freetown."
She puts on her helmet and nods to him, "Glad to see you again, Korkie. I'm leaving in a couple of hours. The rest is up to you."
Cobb waits for her to come out then sigh, now knowing that she is alive and doing what she has always done: fight.
His gaze rests on the bag and biting his lip, he opens it. There within it is his condemnation and his hope.
*
Quick and accurate Blaster shots echo through the hall and then lights in some corners of the large room explode, sending glass shards and sparks falling.
A sudden silence falls between the fighting, the movements frozen in alert to await any new danger. The Nite Owls make their appearance. Din was wondering what had become of them, but something is not right.
The blue, white and silver group commando has red armor with blue decorations and the Kryze house symbol is painted all over the chest in black, on the right shoulder pad there is a familiar symbol in white.
Din has never seen this armor and probably never seen this man who leads the group of the most feared Mandalorians in the galaxy. Bo-Katan joins him, each of them wearing helmets and holding their heads up with pride.
Grogu watches him with his mouth open and stretching his fingers towards him, Din doesn't know it's for some form of greeting or a call for attention.
The fact remains that silence remains in the great hall, while all helmets and faces are turned towards the group and the footsteps of the Nite Owls echoes through the walls like the beating of hammers in a mining tunnel.
“I return after 30 years of exile, following the voices of a faint hope for our people”, the voice echoes through the room, pitched neither too high nor too low.
The distorted voice from the helmet sounds familiar to Din's ears, but he's not sure who he belongs to or who resembles him.
"And here's what I find, massiff dazzling and biting each other".
*
"I know who you are, Korkie Kryze."
The pronunciation of the name unleashes groans of surprise and whispers among the other Mandalorian, while the Nite Owls are left behind in silence, including Bo-Katan.
"You judge us, but where have you been for the past 30 years? I understand you fled after the collapse of Darth Maul's business in Sundari"
If Din was curious before the stranger, now he has a complete interest in him. He didn't know there was another Kryze out there, what connection did he have with Bo-Katan? Is he a brother or a cousin?
"That's like The Armorer, I went into exile because I wanted to clear my mind about everything that happened then. It had to process a deep mourning that circumstances didn't allow me to focus on," explains Korkie calmly, "But there have been some events over the next 15 years that prevented me from knowing the fate of my people or what was happening in the universe. I fought my way to protect people in a place where there was no justice and kindness, I pretended that the past didn 't exist and neither did the blood that runs through my veins".
Korkie hadn't hidden the hatred in those words.
"And why this behavior?", Din does not realize that he has spoken, until the man in red does not turn his visor towards him.
“I hated my people for what happened to Satine Kryze,” he says sincerely and bluntly.
*
"The reason I'm here is you, Din Djarin".
Din doesn't know why, he's faced Dark Troppers or fearsome bounty hunters and imposing creatures, but now he shivers from the weight of that gaze.
Grogu looks out from the stage stretching his hands in Korkie's direction as if he wanted to get his attention, he has never behaved like this with anyone.
The Mandalorian in red, though he doesn't stop looking at Din, moves his hand to take something from one of the pockets on his belt.
"I'm not here for that cursed weapon or to ask you for a duel", he speaks bluntly and takes a chocolate bar out of his pocket.
Grogu's eyes light up as the treat is placed between his tiny fingers, but before he grabs it the little boy strokes Korkie's hand with affection.
Din is surprised by the small gesture of generosity and even more so when the stranger in red strokes his son's head with affection. He did all of this without taking his eyes off the Mand'alor.
"We have mutual friends, Din Djarin, whom I asked about you" .
"Ashoka Tano and Cobb Vanth", he adds resolutely placing his hands on his hips, in that damn familiar posture.
*
"But I want you to know one thing", Korkie's tone is stern, "If you go astray, I won't hesitate to kill you."
There is a heavy silence between the two, Grogu is completely indifferent to the threat that his new favorite has pronounced towards his father.
Korkie huffs a laugh, "Maybe I was too harsh, killing is a bit extreme, sorry".
Din smiles back, "If our roles were reversed, I would have said the same thing".
"I'm glad to know that we understand each other, but the threat remains, I'll kick your ass if you behave inappropriately towards our people or other peoples".
"Roger it, Kryze".
“Call me Cob… Korkie”, the man in red speaks so quickly that Din isn't sure he said anything wrong.
"Call me Din, Korkie".

Dincobb + “protecting you isn’t my duty. it’s my privilege” 😍
so this uh 1. took longer than i wanted but i knew that was likely to happen, lol and 2. ended up being way longer than i expected
also catch me ending fics seemingly randomly cause i think of how to actually end them 😬😬
---
The market in Mos Espa is more colorful, more loud, more everything than Cobb has seen in a long time. He prefers staying out in Freetown, not just because it’s where his people are, but because it’s quiet and calm for the most part.
But he also enjoys getting to walk on the other side from time to time. He hasn’t been back to Freetown in several weeks – confined to Fett’s palace while he heals – and he’s preparing to make the return journey. While packing up the few things he had, he thought it would be good to get a few gifts, something for the kids, maybe something for Jo and Taanti.
Glancing over his shoulder, it seems that Cobb has finally slipped out from under the weight of his new guardian's gaze.
Since Cobb has come out of the bacta tank, Din has been a unique combination of hovering but also keeping his distance. He’s there at Cobb’s shoulder every time he ventures outside of his room, pulled taut as a tripwire as he keeps his eyes out for any possible threats, but every time Cobb turns to talk to him Din is suddenly gone.
Cobb isn’t sure how Din knows when Cobb wants to talk, but he’s kind of impressed by his intuition.
He knows Din blames himself for what happened to him, for this new metal encased shoulder he didn’t ask for and the quavering in his fingers that’s slowly abating as he gets used to the circuitry knitted in with his flesh. He knows Din blames himself because Shand alluded to it over drinks, because Fett flat-out told him over dinner, and because Din won’t talk to him.
What does Din think will happen if they talk about what happened? Does he think Cobb will be furious, will never want to see him again? That’s so far from the truth that Cobb can’t even picture the scenario in his head.
He wants to thank Din, like he finally got the chance to thank Fett and Shand. He wants Din to wave it off like it was nothing while knowing from the line of their shoulders and the iron in their eyes that it was anything but nothing.
These people care for him, and he’s so confused by it. But that doesn't mean that he doesn’t treasure it.
Cobb lopes through the market, steps slow as he takes in each of the stalls and seller’s wares. A few people seem to recognize him and wave in greeting, a few others attempt to bow to him like he’s seen people do to Fett, and he cuts them off quickly, but the best is that several shopkeepers give him discounts on their products.
He gets a few hand-carved wooden dolls for the kids – they’re painted to look like Fett, Shand, and Din and he’s sure the kids will love having Jo use them to tell the story of the battle of Mos Espa. Speaking of Jo, he finds her a new headwrap in muted colors, as is her style, but a stunning pattern he’s surprised can be accomplished in a woven textile.
It’s when Cobb’s looking for something for Taanti, that he catches sight of sunlight on beskar.
Ah, there he is.
Cobb isn’t dumb enough to think that Din wouldn’t find him, eventually. He’d just wanted a bit of time on his own, an afternoon without someone treating him like glass. He sighs and ignores Din, lets him pretend he can be stealthy in armor that shiny on a planet with two suns.
After finding a nice gift of off-world booze for Taanti, something just for them that’s not from behind the bar of their paltry cantina, Cobb keeps drifting along. At some point, Din stops hiding and finds his way closer to Cobb, trailing behind him a few paces back. After a bit of this, of shop-keepers glancing over his shoulder with trepidation, Cobb grits his teeth and finds his way down an empty alleyway beyond the edges of the marketplace.
He stops halfway down the alley and wrings his left hand around the strap of the leather bag he’d brought with him for his purchases. He can feel the heat the new metal shoulder has absorbed, even through the fabric of his shirt and for some reason, that does it.
This reminder of his weakness, of how he’s changed, is what brings his nerves to a head, snapping like a frayed rope and lashing back to hurt those in its vicinity.
Cobb doesn’t even attempt to turn around as he snarls, “I don’t need you protecting me. Don’t know if you feel some guilt-based duty to do so, but I don’t need you hovering.”
It’s silent after he speaks. Cobb almost wonders if he’s just spoken to empty air, if Din isn’t there after all. Then, a hand lands on his shoulder – against the metal encasing his shoulder – and the touch is light, careful, almost… scared. “I don’t… I apologize,” Din says.
Cobb turns to look at him, whips around fast enough to dislodge Din’s hand, and is prepared to launch into the tirade building in his throat, but instead he jerks back as he watches Din reach up to pull his helmet off. He doesn’t even notice he’s closed his eyes until there’s a hand brushing through his messy hair.
“Please, look at me.”
Cobb’s seen Din’s face once before. When he was forcing his way out of the bacta tank – disoriented and terrified – he must have surprised Din while he was sitting sentinel at Cobb’s bedside, possibly dozing with his helmet off.
He remembers little of it though, his memory of those few hours post-tank hazy from the shock and pain and the fuzziness of being fully submerged in bacta for that long. He doesn’t want the second time – really the first time – that he sees Din’s face to be in this back alley. It doesn’t feel sacred enough for such a gift.
Again: “please” and Cobb crumbles, pulling his eyes open to look at Din’s brown curls, and brown eyes and brown mustache and Cobb realizes brown is his favorite color. Once he meets Din’s eyes, the Mandalorian begins to speak, his words coming out in a rush.
“Protecting you isn’t my duty. It’s my privilege. I… I’m sorry if it’s been suffocating, but I was so scared while you were in bacta. That you weren’t going to wake up, and it was going to be my fault for getting you involved in a fight that wasn’t yours. But then you opened your eyes, and you looked at me and you weren’t furious. You didn’t hate me, and I felt so privileged that I could still see your smile, hear your laugh, watch you be strong against all odds.
“I know you don’t need me to protect you, but… for so much of my life, when people I love were put in danger’s way, there was nothing I could do. I apologize if I’ve been stifling. I’ll back off.”
Din’s grip on his helmet is so tight the leather of his gloves squeaks against the beskar. Cobb can’t think over ‘people I love, people I love, love, love’. He can’t seem to get his mouth to work, everything he wants to say in response to that getting caught in his throat.
Din nods and turns to leave. “I understand,” he says, his voice low and fractured.
“No, no, Din please.” Cobb’s hand shoots out and grabs onto his wrist before he can put that helmet back on and slip out of the alleyway. “I didn’t… I’m sorry. I thought this was just guilt. I mean, clearly that’s some of it and we’re gonna work on that, but – I didn’t know that you… you said that you… do you really love me?”
Brown eyes flash from hooded sadness to wide-eyed panic, and Din stutters around his words, “I… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I’m so sorry.”
Cobb chuckles, the sound more sigh than an actual laugh. “You didn’t make me uncomfortable. That, uh, that made me happy. That you care about me. That you’re not just doing this cause you feel guilty about what happened.”
He reaches his hand up – his fingers don’t quake at all this time, the circuitry in line with his brain for at least this single moment – and sinks his touch into Din’s soft curls. Din lets out a small gasp, then smiles.
“No, not just doing this because I feel guilty,” Din agrees, leaning in and bumping his forehead against Cobb’s.

Interesting how BOBF showed us Freetown was able to defend themselves on their own and how Jo made a good leader for them, using Cobb's rifle in the battle on top of that.

Boba Fett holding a LEP droid in Jabba's palace. From the Book of Boba Fett, Season 1, Episode 4, The Gathering Storm. Image from DataWorks calendar.
Grogu really didn’t understand why Mandalorians hated droids and mechs so much. Even his friend Boba Fett didn’t seem to like them very much.
“I know it seems that way, young one. But many people use droids and mechs to fool and deceive others because they will do just as they are told. That droid knew where the Mayor of Mos Espa was, but tried to hide that fact. Was told to hide that fact. I have little patience with liars.”
The Daimyo made a point. Droids and mechs followed their programming and if it was less than stellar, well, you didn’t get what you wanted. Grogu remembered the story Kuiil told about reprogramming IG-11 to be a nanny droid. It took a lot of patience and time, but eventually, the former assassin droid had been an excellent and self-less guardian.
Grogu and the Daimyo had been talking about how the Daimyo became, well, Daimyo. It hadn’t been easy and some people didn’t cooperate, particularly Mayor Mok Shaiz. Apparently, and Grogu didn’t quite understand this, Mok Shaiz thought that he should be the Daimyo. But he hadn’t stopped Bib Fortuna and he hadn’t worked with any of the other leaders on Tatooine and he was a coward. Who wanted a leader who wouldn’t stand up for their own people?
“Leading is not easy, Grogu. Many are not suited for the task, even though they may have the title and claim the authority. But if you do not take responsibility for your remit. For your people. Then, you are not a leader. You are a grifter. Conning people out of their hard earned credits without providing anything in return. Mok Shaiz was a grifter and Tatooine is better off without him and his flunkies.”
Grogu nodded. He did think Tatooine was better off now. The changes to the strange planet he felt so attached to had been slow, far slower than the changes on Nevarro, but they were still present. The new leadership council had been put in place, with the Mods working to keep things coordinated between the different cities, towns, and villages on Tatooine. Freetown was represented by Jo and Grogu had been happy to meet her. The Marshal was establishing a program of peace officers to coordinate information sharing and mutual aid as well as working with the Sand people outreach team.
Grogu had tried to talk Peli Motto into representing Mos Eisley, but she declined because she had a repair and maintenance business to run. But she had recommended a person to represent Mos Eisley, claiming they were the last honest card shark in system. His name was Lando something. Not really ‘something’, but Grogu couldn’t remember the other name Peli had told him. It sounded like the name of a planet.
Fennec was vetting them all, of course, and apparently she was happy so far and that meant a lot to Grogu and even more to the Daimyo. He and Fennec had plans of their own to work on and this system allowed him to follow his path while preserving the work he had already put into rebuilding Tatooine. Grogu thought that was commendable.
He did wonder about the little droid. Had it been dismantled or decommissioned or just scrapped?
“Oh, I put it back on the job. If it could catch rats for Bib Fortuna and Jabba, then it could catch them for a much more worthy purpose. The rancor likes rats, you know.”
Boba Fett laughed at that and so did Grogu. He didn’t know who Bib Fortuna or Jabba were, but he knew that Ranky liked all sorts of treats. He just hadn’t expected rats to be a treat. Of course, he liked frogs and gorgs and even the Daimyo didn’t find them all that much of treat.
“One of the things you learn when you have lived as long as I have, young one, is you should never throw a tool away if it isn’t broken. Yes, that little droid annoyed me at the time. I was reclaiming my ship and hoping to find my armor. It had no idea who I was or what I was about. It was just there to catch rats. Mercy is an important quality in any leader. That is why I can count Krrsantan as a friend when he was sent to end me. He was just doing what his masters demanded. Once I freed him there was no need to hold a grudge.”
Grogu nodded his head and then coo’d a question to the Daimyo.
“One day you may find that you are Mand’alor. There are many Mandalorians you have met who will not have done as you wished. Who were not your friends. But you will still be their leader. How you treat them will determine how you are respected as a leader. It was not an easy lesson for me to learn, but when I did, it made all the difference.
Now, let’s see what’s for dinner. I hope we have something other than rats to eat. Fennec complains that the rancor cannot keep up with how many LEP catches. Between you and me I think the little droid breeds them in order to keep his job.”
Grogu giggled at that. If it was true it would explain that scurrying sound he heard so often in the Daimyo’s palace. Unless the rumors about spiders were true? Uff. Time to eat. He had a lot of information to digest and it all went better with a nice cup of bone broth.

What do you think is planned for Marshal Vanth? After the events of bobf, him talking about retirement and how we've seen Freetown having no difficulties fending for themselves and Jo taking the lead (with Cobb's rifle nonetheless), plus with his shot injury we don't know how is gonna affect him, it might be possible that his role is going to change going forward. It is sure uncertain if Boba is going to remain Daimyo, if he doesn't then the post-credits scene could be a hint of Vanth taking the role and ruling Tatooine. Which would be a pretty epic turn-tables moment, but it wouldn't really fit his character in my opinion? We've seen how he doesn't care about money and power. But judging by the way his armor -and lack thereof- was brought up a lot during the series, and Din having the guilt of taking it away leading to Cad Bane ''killing'' him, on top of how we have already been shown his strong moral code and respect towards Mandalorian culture, I think it's not totally impossible if he was also being built up to become an actual mandalorian in the future (maybe taking Din's new own creed?). Or at least, getting his own set of armor. I don't know! Since Chapter 9 I've been feeling like this character is a more important card in the deck than we think (also I believe there was rumors likewhat the team was planning to do more with him?). There is plenty of possibilities and I am so curious to see where they take his story!
That's a great question and some great thoughts you pose! I 'm not really sure where Marshal Vanth's story is headed because I think the original plan has had to change. I believe his character was meant to take a starring role in Rangers of the Republic, which has been shelved following the removal of Marshal Dune. It definitely seems as if TBOBF was setting up Vanth for becoming the new Daimyo of Tatooine, but solely for the purpose of bettering the planet. Who knows! I think Jon is honestly still trying to answer this question himself. You don't have Timothy Olyphant on board and do nothing with his character!
