I have a sort of conspiracy theory about liberal feminism that I need to get off my chest. The whole "pick me vs girls girl" culture is actively creating TiFs.

Women who don't fit into certain standards society holds have been shamed for it since the beginning of time, but now rejecting femininity is being seen as anti feminist. Girls who aren't even putting down other women are called nlogs and pick me's just because they're awkward and kind of tomboyish.

Look at Jlaw. She was shamed out of the public eye for acting like an actual human and not a walking caricature of womanhood (eating pizza and falling down on the red carpet). There's an audio going around being mocked on tiktok where a woman rightfully says "I don't like makeup. I think it's bad for women". I've seen nasty comments under Korean feminist insta posts where the women in question are smashing their makeup or wearing comfortable clothing and talking openly about it.

I genuinely think this is the reason why a lot of girls believe themselves not to be female. Since it's shameful and cringy to not be feminine as a woman in the year of our Lord 2024, it would logically be better to think of yourself as a man or some in between thing. Tomboys are basically an endangered species at this point and it's really really sad. Little girls aren't climbing trees or playing in the mud. They're playing with skincare and makeup. I truly feel like I'm living in a black mirror episode and it's scary.

Sorry for the long winded rant. I'm semi crypto on main and wanted to put this out there. I dunno why I sent this to the "I want to make a milkshake out of copia's cum" account but I don't really know anyone else who gets insane anons like you do. x

i think youre right though, there is definitely a backlash against feminism right now that comes in the form of hyper femininity and capitalism.

if you dont wear makeup, youre a childish loser who needs to learn how to put on eyeliner. if you dont shave, encourage other women to not shave, youre bombarded with women with "sensory issuee" and are just as bad as a patriarchal man. if you dont like pink, you have internalized misogyny. if you say anything about how high heels damage your feet, youre shaming women. if you talk about how womens clothes are made worse than mens, just go shop in the mens section! stop doing anything, stop going against the quo, let women do what they want! dont question anything!

and in more recent years, ive been seeing the evidence of this seeping into girls younger and younger. we now have little girls begging for drunk elephant and sephora items, to shop where the adult women shop. honestly i didnt even know what drunk elephant was until i saw a girls christmas list on here. theyre spending adult with a job money on products, whether it be from saved allowances and or from their parents. i just saw a video about a 9 year old girl getting bullied for having a tumbler from walmart and not one of the expensive trendy stanley cups. there was always an issue with bullying over not having name brand but i feel like its gotten so much worse. and thats not even talking about the "skincare" aspect of it.

theres so much to say about this but they really did rebrand capitalism as being woman positive though.

The strange thing about jlaw is that even though she is most famous for thg thats not what I connect mentally with her at all. She hasn’t even had other films I’ve been obsessed with or are more relevant. She’s just a nebulous a lister in my head in a way the Emma Watson in contrast is not.

Oooh this is a very interesting point actually and I very much agree with this? Like is it because THG was so long ago and she’s done so much since then, or because her personality is so big, like is she a Movie Star fr maybe? (In a way that there are very few under 40.)

But so true, I mean Emma Watson has not been in really ~prestigious movies and hasn’t been in many period since HP. Like yes some notable exceptions like Little Women, but that was her last role I think and it was more than five years ago and she wasn’t getting acting noms let alone awards. (Also ik ik The Bling Ring, Perks, some scifis and random stuff but nothing where it was like wow that’s An Actor! Where like Daniel Radcliffe tries to break out of the box and he’s not great but he’s successful at that at least, as much as Harry Potter himself can be.)

I think HP is much more part of the cultural consciousness like Star Wars and LOTR (for better and definitely for worse, JKR, etc) while THG was very big I feel like it’s more Twilight ish? Where it made hugeee pop culture waves, never will fully die, tons of emulation, launched careers, and it’s better than Twilight in every way except for laughing at it bc kids slaughtering each other isn’t funny but “spider monkey” absolutely is).

I feel like none of the HP kids will ever escape it. Hell the Twilight actors have a hard time escaping it, I saw Kristen get asked about Twilight when promoting Love Lies Bleeding (and I’m sure it was more than once). But yeah. I’ll have to think about this more I’m just saying words at this point but yeah. Emma also doesn’t seem interested in acting anymore, I could see her directing (since… she’s starting w commercials and has more or less said as much) or maybe writing.

So I think part of it is franchise and part of it is that she’s differentiated herself enough in her roles that this is possible. Bc interestingly she was even in a bunch of X-Men movies lol, she didn’t shy away from franchises and I could see her doing it again. I think ppl will always Know her from THG but yeah it’s not what comes to mind first for me either. While again Twilight I feel follows around all the actors lol even though two of the three leads are good, working, successful actors. But none have had true blockbuster leading success like Jlaw either? Even like, mild success like No Hard Feelings or fucking Red Sparrow or Joy or Silver Linings Playbook (ofc Oscar there) and American Hustle.

Why don’t you ship it?

Mostly bc my interactions with the X-Men fandom have been limited to Erik, Charles, Raven, and Remy. I RPd an Erik and three different versions of Raven/Mystique at one point. One of my Ravens was in a Marvel Uni RP Twitter group, and she had a relationship with Remy. They called them Ramen. LOL anyway... I do enjoy the X-Men movies, but I'm super unfamiliar with the majority of the characters. I only got into Cherik after X-Men: First Class, and that was mostly bc of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. Same with Raven. JLaw was my first fictional wifey (I consequently left her for Brie Larson, but I still love me some JLaw), and I actually immensely dislike Rebecca Romijn. In saying all that, while I don't have an issue with James Marsden, and in fact enjoy him in many many movies, I do not now nor have I ever liked January Jones. Her casting as Emma Frost was meh for me. Emma Frost was meh for me. Until I joined that Marvel Uni RP group. After I got Raven going, I added two more characters. A super ditzy Darcy and biology professor with a hidden agenda, Nathaniel Essex, aka Mr. Sinister. My Essex became involved in a sordid love affair with Emma Frost, a grad student, and when things with the group went sour, Emma's writer and I took our characters out and continued to RP on our own. She wasn't a fan of JJ's, but Emma Frost was her #1. She started out using Jennifer Morrison but later changed her to Blake Lively. I used Ewan McGregor for Essex. Anyway, the RP made me a fan of Emma's, tho I don't really interact with much media of her anymore. So, maybe it's not that I don't ship it. I'm sure if I read more fics of them, I might.

What would have made you like it?

Being more familiar with the characters, probably. And a better actress, lol.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Never been a big fan of the Fox X-Men movies. Mystique aside, they were just too dreary and generic visually. Now, I never understood why movie Mystique was naked. While I prefer Rebecca Romijn in the role, and the makeup that was done in those early movies, at least First Class established the whole “mutant and proud” part for Raven’s character. It’s not subtle, but at least one can infer that Mystique would want to strut her stuff. Kinda like some ladies during Women’s March.
