Last Sunday, December 10th, 2017, I went down to Melrose where my boyfriend, Chris, and I went out on date night. It had been a few months since we went out to eat at an actual restaurant so that evening was lovely.

I got to his house and we walked down the street in the snowy cold. First of all, I love this town. Melrose, MA is such an adorable, small town that just screams community. Everyone is very nice, friendly, and accepting there, and compared to my city, I just feel so much safer there. My favorite part is downtown on Main Street because it looks like the type of main street that you’d see from the 60’s like in the movies. You know, one long street with cars parked on both sides, shops and small businesses along the street, the restored buildings, and people walking everywhere. One time, I saw some elderly women walking down the street at 9pm and was so shocked because where I live, once it’s dark it’s safer to stay indoors. For Halloween, the town even blocked off part of the street so that kids could go trick-or-treating at the stores, it was the cutest thing!
So yeah, I better stop rambling, but long story short, the area is really cozy and nice.
It was about a 15-minute walk up the street where Chris and I went to this restaurant called “Mexico Lindo.” He’s been wanting us to go since the summer and we finally got the chance to. When we entered, I immediately noticed how small it was. Not super small, but not big like a typical restaurant either. Maybe like the size of a Papa Gino’s dining area. The hostess desk is right in front of the door and they were friendly. We had to wait about 10 minutes or so, and the sitting area was right in front of the bar. While waiting, Chris was entertained by the Eagles game so good for him, am I right? Haha.
  Unexpected color coordination 🙂
So after, we get to our table and as soon as we sat down Chris noticed how he couldn’t see the TVs from his seat but I could so I suggested me switched. Of course, he initially declined but I know him and his football games so I insisted we switch seats, to which he happily replied with saying “I love you.” True love is helping your man out so that he can keep up with his favorite sports team, Lol.
The atmosphere was pretty laid back and the theme of the restaurant was complete with Mexican culture. The radio played Mariachi music and the walls and tables were decorated with Mexican art and color schemes. The menu consisted of authentic Mexican food; the meals were named in Spanish but the descriptions were in English. Our waitress was very nice and pretty fast as well. She came over to us almost right away to take our drink orders and gave us complimentary waters, that she graciously refilled without us having to hunt her down to ask. Our food was even delivered in a fast manner, so that made me happy considering that I was starving. All in all, the customer service was just right and I appreciated it a lot.
We were also given complimentary tortilla chips and salsa, which Chris exaggerated saying that salsa “had a kick” yet the medium salsa in a jar that you get from grocery stores is spicier than the one we had. We started off with beef taquitos for an appetizer, which was really good, except the beef was a bit hard for my teeth to bite into and rip. So I ended up just pulling out the whole slice of beef each time I tried to bite into it. It was also my first time having a taquito, not like it was obvious or anything…
I ordered arroz con pollo (rice with chicken) that was mixed with onions, mushrooms, green peppers, topped with two avocado slices and light barbecue sauce with warm tortillas on the side, and a Pepsi. I don’t like avocados so those immediately went to Chris because he’s weird and loves them (jk, he’s not weird). I’m typically a picky eater so despite being in a new restaurant, I wasn’t ready to try a completely new dish. On the plus side though, usually, whenever I go to a restaurant I get shrimp and even though this restaurant had it, I decided against it. And for once, I don’t regret it. It was amazing but the serving was huge so I ended up taking it to-go.
It was my first time having authentic Mexican food and the experience was lovely. Food: A+, Service: A+, and atmosphere: A+.
After that, we headed across the street to the bakery because my pudgy bum wanted dessert, LOL! However, Chris was also excited to take me there too because he loves that bakery and claimed it was the best. Better yet, even a sign on the door said it was the best bakery in Melrose. And that bakery is D’Amici’s.
Upon walking in, there’s this big window display of an assortment of cupcakes, cakes, and other desserts. They looked so cute! I had a difficult time choosing what I wanted because they all looked so good, especially the cupcakes and I lovveee cupcakes 🙂 They had animal decorated cupcakes and I ended up getting a vanilla cupcake with a polar bear on top. Chris didn’t get anything because he didn’t have it in him to eat anymore, haha. The cupcake was a bit big for my mouth but I was able to eat it with no problem. If you’ve seen IT, remember when Pennywise opens his mouth to bite something and his mouth just expands? That’s basically how I ate that cupcake…LOL! I didn’t eat the polar bear because it was way too much frosting. But Chris decided to get cocky and eat it, which lasted for 5 seconds before he spat it out because he couldn’t handle all that frosting either hahaha.
Overall, the night was very nice and I loved getting to spend the time with my baby. We both deserved an outing. The food and both facilities were delightful and I would really recommend it to others. If you’re hungry, pass on Chipotle and check out Mexico Lindo, up on the North Shore. And for a sweet treat, D’Amici’s is right across the street.
Thank you for reading and stay tuned for my next post. 🙂
