Manga spoilers: chapters 156/157
Acrux?
Megumi studies the star shaped mark on his bunny shikigami, evidently confused.
He glances at the door.
Gacrux?
" Watch out!"
Megumi glances up just in time to see you getting launched at him. His eyes widen, arms opening up just in time to properly catch you. Immediately, his eyes are drawn to your hand.
Also Acrux.
" Sorry-"
" No, I don't think this was a coincidence. Stay close to me."
You blink at him, before blinking at the mark on your hand.
At once, he releases rabbit escape which he had previously summoned.
" Panda! What do you think of my rabbit escape?"
Megumi takes a step closer as he calls out to your older classmate, automatically pulling you with him for some reason. He glances at you shortly, wrapping an arm around your waist to keep your side pressed to his. You blink, not exactly catching onto what's happening just yet.
" It was sooo cute! Second only to me!"
Annoyance takes over Megumi's features.
" I'm asking about what they could and couldn't get closer to!"
" Oh. They were able to approach me and the second floor!, But couldn't get to Kirara or the door to the monitoring room!"
" Is there a star mark and a name somewhere on your body?"
" Eh?!"
Indeed, on Panda's butt, was another star with a name.
" Imai? It says Imai!"
Panda calls as he reads his mark.
Megumi searched himself for a good second too, raising his shirt go reveal a very toned stomach and another star with a name. Acrux, just like you.
Your eyes widen in realization.
" It must be based on a constellation. "
Megumi nods.
" Panda! This cursed technique is based on a constellation! This one is based on 'The Southern Cross'."
Based on Kirara's face, Megumi must be correct.
" Megumii, Y/NN! I don't understand!"
" Panda, the southern cross has 4 stars, right?"
" Well, yeah, since it's a cross."
" I initially thought that Kirara's technique assigned a star from the southern cross to each target, and forces them to stay at a certain distance from each other. But Kirara is able to approach the door, Y/N is glued to me, and we're able to approach each other. Which is why I think that this is more like a board game that decides a route. And that each star has an order to which they can approach each other. And the same stars can stick together."
" Shouldn't the user be unaffected by their cursed technique?"
You shrug
" Usually, yeah. But Kirara was also forced to stay away from devine dog."
" Maybe it just makes our stars repel the stars of Kirara and the door."
" If that's the case, then why hasn't Kirara run into the monitoring room?"
" Oh, right- It's game over for us if she sticks to the door from the inside."
" For now, Kirara is on guard to make sure we don't break whatever condition it is that would allow us to break into the monitor room unnoticed by her."
Your eyes widen.
" Doesn't that mean that there's at least 5 stars?"
Megumi nods.
" What if there's a sixth or a seventh? "
" Let's just hope that's not the case."
The conversation is cut short as Kirara joins the scene, somewhere seemingly having found a car and plowing it straight at the three of you.
" Panda!"
" I've got it!-"
" Don't throw it! It's marked with the same star as the one on your body. -"
" -If you throw it it'll either come back to you or you'll be pulled to it!"
" Megumi, over there!"
At one of the random ledges of the roof, is indeed a different star. The one you were looking for.
Everything seems to happen at once. The two of you head to the star, Kirara sends a bunch of stuff at you, and while Megumi reaches the 5th star of her technique, you manage to wrap a steady stream of water around Kirara, and pull yourself towards her.
Megumi suppresses his cursed energy by a level for a moment, getting him pulled towards you this time, and wrapping Kirara in a headlock.
Finally, Kirara is on the floor, Megumi holding her arm behind her back.
" Listen to what we have to say."
Kirara looks rather annoyed that Megumi's plan had worked.
" Did you really plan this all out? Surely you didn't know that I cannot mark water with my technique. Or that you would be pulled towards her."
" Originally, it was by chance. But I realized that the one with lesser cursed energy gets pulled towards the one with more cursed energy."
Kirara's eyes widen, before she grumbles.
" I can't believe you're a first year. You're not so cute."
Finally, Megumi lets her go, opting for another approach. He bows respectfully, all the way to the ground.
" Please, listen to what we have to say."
Kirara glances over him and you, before sighing.
" Fine.-"
In that exact second, Yuuji is launched through the door you guys were stalling, Sukuna followed soon after.
Hakari looks angry as he follows them out.
" Megumi, Panda, Y/N, you guys stay out of this. Su- Woozi, leave this to me."
Sukuna scoffs in annoyance, but steps back.
Hakari grins.
" You're underestimating me."
And then he throws a punch straight at Yuuji. Everyone's eyes widen. Sukuna's do too, before they narrow.
" Yuuji-"
" The fuck are you doing?-"
Hakari visibly gains interest as he shoves Yuuji, only for him to remain standing.
He raises a brow.
" Interesting. I'll listen to what you have to say... For as long as you remain standing."
Kirara leans over the railway where you're all stood.
" Kin, these kids want your help! Listen to what they have to say!"
Hakari huffs.
" I just said I'll listen."
Kirara blinks.
" Oh. Then it's all good.. I guess..?"
" Hey Itadori, why me? This is the first time we've met, is it not?"
" Because my upperclassman said you're strong-"
" That's what I thought."
Hakari launches a punch in Yuuji's face as he speaks.
" When a sorcerer asks for help, it's basically asking 'please risk your life with me'! You need to convey a fever worthy of making me risk my life. Right here, right now! But instead of that, you came here because you were told to?! What the hell is old Yaga doing?! He's supposed to weed out wusses like you!"
" I don't have a fever.-"
" Huh?"
"-I'm a cog. A cog, for sorcerers to continue exorcising curses."
" Hey, hey, hey, you serious? That's so boring!"
Hakari pulls his fist back, and Megumi's eyes widen.
" Yuuji! That's enough!"
The punch never arrives. A steady stream of water is clasped around his wrist. You jump over the railing, approaching Hakari, your eyes narrowed in a sharp glare.
" Who the hell are you? And what the hell is this technique?!"
Hakari is evidently taken by surprise as he struggling against the steady stream of water.
" My name is Kamo Y/N. This is pointless. If you're afraid to fight for real, pretend this stupid club is worth your time, then so be it.-"
You bend the water back in your water skin.
" If you're looking for a real fight however, come with us. You have nothing better to do anyway."
You cross your arms over one another, glaring at him. Yuuji's eyes widen.
" Y/N.-"
" Yuuji, shut up."
Sukuna walks over, grinning as he slings an arm around your shoulder.
Hakari grins, scoffing.
" You have guts.-"
He glances up to where Megumi, Panda and Kirara are stood.
" Come down. We can make a deal."
Megumi's eyes widen, as does Panda's.
" Did she just...?"
" Uhm, yeah..? The problem's solved...? We convinced him...? "
Kirara hums at Megumi's puzzled words.
" Yep."
" Thank you?"
" No problem. Kinji doesn't like the higher ups. But his-"
She nods at you, under Sukuna's arm.
" -girl really got his fever going."
Megumi coughs.
His girl. Sukuna's girl. As if. Tch.
" She's not his girl. They're just friends."
Kirara raises an interested brow at Megumi.
" Your girl?"
Megumi blushes, not answering her as he jumps over the railing.

Jujutsu Kaisen 157: Megumi needs and Yuji is needed + the power of friendship trope
I decided that, while I cannot avoid sharing manga spoilers (mostly because I don’t want to since I am keeping up with the manga), I would avoid sharing leaks. So I’ve been holding back on posting about chapter 157 until today wondering what I wanted to say about the subject.
First, chapter 157 has got to be one of the saddest chapters in JJK so far and it hit me in the gut almost as hard as the chapter when Mechamaru says goodbye to Miwa (I honestly didn't know I was a Mechamaru x Miwa fan until that chapter).
Second, as a Megumi fan, my favorite panel in chapter 157 was, of course, when he bows down and asks Kirara to listen to what they have to say. It felt so earnest and painful at the same time.
The reason Megumi doing a dogeza bow is a big deal is because this level of bowing is loaded with symbolism.
From what I understand, dogeza is equated to “begging”, thus denoting a certain level of desperation.
But dogeza also sends the message that the person bowing is both ashamed to ask for help, AND, being aware of that shame, are still choosing to bow as a way to tell the other person that they do not care about their self-image as long as the act of bowing accomplishes the bower’s intention.
Truly an act out of desperation.
Now, I could be missing some cultural nuances here, but that’s my understanding of dogeza. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if I’m missing some important detail about dogeza.
Looking back, this panel actually reminded me of Yashiro from Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai doing dogeza on behalf of his love interest, Kageyama.
Yoneda Kou, like Gege Akutami, is a very talented artist in their ability to portray emotion through their art.
But back to JJK.
This whole interaction between Kirara and Megumi struck me because it clearly depicts both Megumi’s desperation and conviction to save Tsumiki.
Let’s not forget that Megumi wasn’t one to ask for help just prior to the Shibuya arc and would always choose to rely on himself for the most part. Which makes his emotional and psychological growth all the more impressive.
Despite the growth he achieved in terms of his power up, how incredibly smart he is, and manifesting a Domain Expansion, by bowing, he is basically telling Kirara “even though I easily defeated you, I am not strong without you. I need your strength.”
Megumi’s true growth is thus his ability to put aside his trust issues in favor of his greater goal: Saving Tsumiki.
In other words, he needs others to save his beloved sister.
WHICH brings us to Yuji’s growth.
Third, Yuji went from typical Shonen Protagonist's larger than life aspirations, to a humbling down as a result of everything that took place during the Shibuya Arc.
But what I loved most about this change in Yuji is that he sees himself as part of something bigger. He is now needed as opposed to him fulfilling his own needs by saving others.
It’s like before he had a grandiose idea of what saving others would do for him, instead of taking into consideration what saving others would do for them.
Now that he has done quite the opposite of saving people thanks to Sukuna’s rampage, he’s come back down to the real world and realized that saving other people has nothing to do with him. To put it in “spiritual” terms, Yuji recognized he’s a “channel” for the greater good, not the executioner of the greater good.
Seriously, Gege Akutami loves breaking down Yuji’s ego through really cruel and painful experiences. But it is precisely because Yuji is so naive that he needs this kind of Psychological growth.
Yes, it’s heartbreaking Yuji sees himself only as a “cog” (it feels as though he only sees his worth as utilitarian), and yet, this change in perspective shows just how much he’s matured.
So where Megumi desperately needs help and is not ashamed to admit it, Yuji is desperately needed and is proud of the fact-to the point that he would challenge Hakari by asking him about his place in the machinery.
This is, quite arguably, the best play on the “power of friendship” trope that I’ve seen and I’m here for it. Although not a pairing I personally ship, I can see why the fandom loves Megumi x Yuji x Megumi.
Megumi and Yuji have an incredible bond bordering on bromance that many of us wish we had in our lives. Relationships like that are not easy to come by and are always to be cherished, especially if you are a victim of trauma the way many of the characters in JJK are.
Other honorable mentions:
This chapter really cemented the fact that I like Kirara as a character. Gege Akutami is very good at bringing characters to life, even seemingly minor ones
As with everything JJK, it’s all about the character dynamics, and I am really loving Kirara and Hakari’s dynamic
Ah! Feels good to get all of this off my chest.
So what did YOU think?!!!!
I love chatting with others about JJK, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts.

JJK chapters 156 – 158 reaction and spoilers
Chapter 156
Luckily this is a good place to jump in and I know enough major spoilers from the Shibuya arc I don’t think there will be any super major surprises.
Of course it’s the Southern Cross as a plot point while I’m currently marathoning Fist of the North Star.
I would like to point out that the constellation does have five stars associated with it. It looks a bit like +. with a fifth star in the bottom right quadrant. So it wouldn’t surprise me if perhaps Kirara is acting as that fifth star, which if so I’m curious if we’ll find out the other two anchor points farther away from the door than Fushiguro and Panda.
Going to just assume this is Fist of the North Star inspired because not only the Southern Cross but also the attack is called “Love Rendezvous” and the famous You は Shock opening song’s title translates to something like “Take Back Love.” Reuniting with a lover is also part of the driving plot of the first arc as well.
I was both right and wrong about the star order mostly because I was taught that the star they call Ginan in the chapter is the fifth star of the constellation, but here it’s marked as the fourth.
Chapter 157
Wonder if the guy Itadori’s fighting has some kind of friction curse where he can increase air resistance or something. It’ll be interesting to find out the explanation.
Chapter 158
Knew Gojo got sealed. Didn’t know principal died. That’s a plot point that sounds like it’s going be tough to watch when the anime gets there (or I get my hands on the graphic novels eventually when it’s safer to go to the library).
”He died fighting a higher up [after Shibuya].” Definitely going to be heartbreaking but interesting when I get there.
Given that Junpei, Nanami, and the Principal both died I’m kind of curious if I’m right about how the manga ends. I mean obviously the manga ends when Itadori dies, but I keep thinking about how his grandpa said, “When it's your time to go, make sure you're surrounded by others. Don't end up like me,” and how that might mean Itadori will have living friends and dead friends around him when he dies. Like he definitely won’t die alone, he’s going to have people will him on both sides.
Fushiguro: I'm the head of the Zen'in clan. Fushiguro: [thinking] Whatever. I might as well take advantage of it.
ilu, Fushiguro
I read up on the culling game rules since it was easy to find. Since this player has made a new rule they must have killed at least twenty sorcerers, which given their character design, I would believe that’s possible.
”They [the sorcerers participating in the culling game] were stronger 400 years ago. Where is Sukuna?” Ominous. Also ominous they’ve got 200 points, which means 40 sorcerers.
Fushiguro’s like “We’ll discuss [how Sukuna fists into this] later,” and it’s like boy I hope so because I am curious about his past.
ngl I’m not super into plots like culling games, which is why I never got into the Hunger Games franchise, but I’m curious what Akutami is going to do with the material and this is a good place to jump into the manga, so I’m glad I got caught up now.

Chapter 160: How much of Yuji’s life has been orchestrated? + Megumi the stage-five clinger
Happy JJK-Sunday!
If I had to describe chapter 160 with as few words as possible, I would say: Oh f*ck...
My favorite moment was, of course, Megumi acting like a stage-five clinger. His interaction with Yuji in this chapter is especially ominous in light of Yuji being adamant of protecting Megumi from Sukuna.
A second favorite was Sasaki showing up in this chapter because of the implications moving forward.
Let’s jump right in.
How much of Yuji’s life has been orchestrated by Kenjaku?
We start the chapter with Kenjaku talking to none other than Sasaki, one of the members of the Occult Club at the high school in Sendai that Yuji used to attend.
Of course, the bomb that Gege dropped on us in this chapter is when Kenjaku thanks Sasaki “for getting along with my son”.
Like... excuse you?
Not only does this 100% confirm that Kenjaku used Yuji’s mother’s body to give birth to him, but this specific moment + some foreshadowing from previous chapters also opens an interesting can of worms about Yuji’s life: just how much of Yuji’s life has Kenjaku orchestrated?
For me, the implication is that Sasaki had an assigned role to play in Yuji’s life that would inevitably lead to him eating Sukuna’s finger.
I am assuming this because although we don’t see Kenjaku’s interactions with the other people in Sendai, we get to see that, in addition for thanking her for getting along with Yuji, Kenjaku is incredibly kind to Sasaki. We also learn that she’s the only one who has received a special message from him (thanking her).
Ready to make this whole interaction more ominous? Someone pointed out that the kanji in Sasaki’s name means assistant.
All of this brings us right back to Yuji’s free will--or lack thereof?
We already know that Kenjaku claims he made Yuji “ingest” Sukuna’s finger and that Megumi is rightfully concerned with this idea because he witnessed Yuji eat Sukuna’s finger “of his own free will.”
It’s also becoming increasingly obvious that Yuji was "created” solely for the purpose of becoming Sukuna’s vessel.
What this new reveal about Sasaki does is that it makes everything feel like certain events have been part of Kenjaku’s master plan all along. While this still feels a little farfetched, it will come down to how Gege works this idea into the story moving forward.
Come to think of it, even Yuji’s grandfather’s dying words to Yuji take on a new meaning since we know Wasuke knew something was definitively up with Yuji’s mother.
Another possible bit of foreshadowing all the way in chapter 1: While the intersection in the second panel below could be ANY intersection in Japan, it sure looks like the Shibuya crossing:
A quick note on the importance of kanji meanings in JJK before moving onto the next section: knowing the meaning of Sasaki’s name tells us that names are important in JJK. If you haven’t, I recommend you read my break down on the meaning of Megumi’s FULL NAME. His first name is important, but so is his last name.
The plans moving forward
Going off to Tokyo Colony #2 are Panda and Hakari.
As the strongest, Hakari feels like he should take on Hajime. As for Panda, it looks like his focus will be on hunting down Angel.
Side note: I love that Hakari is still calling Megumi names. Guess Senpai can’t help himself.
I must admit I was disappointed to find that Kirara will stay behind to report, but it is what it is. I am assuming Gege could see no use for Kirara and decided to leave the character out of the action for the time being.
As for Megumi and Yuji, they’ll be heading to Tokyo Colony #1 to target Higuruma, everybody’s new favorite Law & Order boss.
This brings us to Megumi’s current state of mind...
Megumi the stage-five clinger
I had a hard time coming up with the title for this section because what I see happening is that Megumi is starting to feel the pressure of the looming deadline for Tsumiki joining the Culling Game. What his behavior shows, however, is that he needs Yuji with him and is clinging onto him but won’t come out and say it--opting instead for aggression towards Yuji, the very same person he needs most.
His behavior reminded me of how Megumi could be mean to Tsumiki even though he clearly adores her. Apparently that’s the meaning of being tsundere. I’ve read about the term tsundere before but it never “clicked” until this moment and I just love Gege’s interpretation of the trope through Megumi’s character.
It goes without saying that it was REALLY interesting to me to see Megumi’s dynamic and interaction with Yuji in this chapter because it looks like Gege is letting us know Megumi’s state of mind continues to be one of desperation--remember that dogeza bow from chapter 157?
The thing about Megumi is that he looks stoic on the outside, but he’s actually an incredibly emotional person who doesn’t often show how he’s feeling.
I hadn’t caught on, but in chatting with @justafrenchlondoner about the chapter, they pointed out Megumi’s behavior in his dynamic with Yuji appears nervous and aggressive.
Upon a second look I have to agree that Megumi is acting out of character and aggressive with Yuji when all that Yuji really wants is to protect Megumi from Sukuna.
And yes, let me go ahead and sound like a broken record as I remind you of Yuji’s rather ominous words from chapter 143 yet again:
And this is the part of the chapter that knocked the air out of me: Megumi telling Yuji to stfu about Sukuna but Yuji thinking to himself “as long as I’m around you will suffer” back in ch143 is so damn ominous.
Oh f*ck...
But this is what REALLY gets me about this whole interaction and why I’m calling Megumi a stage-five clinger...
Even though Megumi is calling Yuji selfish, in reality, the one being selfish is Megumi.
This is, of course, my own interpretation of the situation, but to me it feels as though Megumi is clinging onto Yuji’s strength for dear life.
It’s almost like Megumi needs not just Yuji’s physical strength, but also his unwavering conviction or mental strength.
If you think about it, Megumi has only recently started fighting to win. Remember how unsure he was of himself when fighting Sukuna for the first time? It wasn’t until he went up against the Cursed Spirit from the Yasohachi bridge that he let go of his inhibitions.
Megumi’s battles during Shibuya were the pinnacle of his growth as a character in that moment. If I remember correctly, according to the timeline of events, the Shibuya incident happened around two weeks prior to the current chapter. You could say that although he is more comfortable in his strength than before, Megumi is still growing into his strength at this point.
The thing about Megumi is that everybody and their Divine Dog believes in him and sees his potential except for him. As Gojo tells him “you undervalue yourself.”
Looking back, the way Megumi asks begs Yuji for help in chapter 143 is very enlightening of how Megumi needs Yuji’s strength:
I initially had read this to mean Megumi needed Yuji’s physical strength. Upon second look, however, Megumi has always seemed to have admiration for Yuji’s conviction.
With the looming deadline for Tsumiki’s vow to join the Culling Game, as Megumi starts to feel the pressure to make his plan work, who better to keep around than the person who will always go for the home run and whose strength he admires?
In other words, like hell he’s going to let Yuji leave his side. Which, again, only makes it more heartbreaking to think Sukuna is up to no good regarding Megumi and Yuji wants to protect him from that.
Oh f*ck.......
The panel below feels like a bit of a lighthearted and comical moment, but it’s also interesting to note that this is the second time they “fight”.
The first “fight” having taken place during the Cursed Womb Arc.
If you will remember, Gege used the Cursed Womb Arc and the Origin of Obedience Arc to show us how much our favorite trio had grown.
Not sure Gege is going to parallel something here again, but just interesting to note.
Oh f*ck...
Ya, please excuse the French.
Despite the many words I’ve shared here, this chapter left me mostly speechless.
I feel like I’ve been trapped in Gojo’s limitless domain expansion and all I can think is “oh f*ck” or “halloween” (if you catch my drift).
Chapter 160 was incredible because it looks like Gege has finally finished putting all his pieces into place and is ready to go for the kill by:
Starting to unravel the story bit by bit, giving us all of the twists we both saw and did not see coming, and
Ramping up the stakes. Taking into consideration the estimates that JJK is somewhere around 60-70% done at this point, It’s not a matter of whether some of our beloved characters will die, but about who, when and how they will die
One last detail
I love the last four panels of the chapter showing Panda, Hakari, Yuji and Megumi all wearing their uniforms (barring Panda) and getting ready to become official participants of the Culling Game by entering their respective barriers.
Knowing that Gege is a very talented artist capable of showing and expressing emotions through his art, I feel like these panels tell us a lot about what the characters might be thinking and I thought I’d expand on that.
Bear in mind this is my personal interpretation as an artist:
Panda looks excited and ready to fight, perhaps even confident. Panda is saying “bring it!” with his body language
There’s a hint of something I can’t describe in Hakari’s face. It’s almost like he’s coming face to face against how big of a challenge this is going to be and yet he’s resolved to walk straight into “the depths of hell itself”
Yuji looks focused, determined to go in and give it his best no matter what comes his way--that’s just who he is
And then there’s Megumi. I’ve been drawing Megumi recently, and one thing I noticed is that he has very specific micro-expressions. In his panel, he’s warming up his wrists as though he’s getting ready to fight, he has a focused look on his face, but the shadows around his eyes say he might be feeling like he is carrying the heavy burden of the uncertainty surrounding the situation he’s going through
With all that being said... the Culling Game is officially starting and we’re in for a one-way ride straight to hell.
Thank you for reading and happy JJK-Sunday!
What about you? What did you enjoy most about chapter 160?

ok mandatory how to find my rambles post
I am an insufferable idiot, you have been warned.
This is a multi-fandom blog that has been taken over by Jujutsu Kaisen and CLAMP, but I will also post about other animanga I love.
I liveblog for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga. You can find my posts in one of the following ways:
in Tumblr’s search box, search for “jjk ch + chapter #” i.e. jjk ch 173. I should have posts for most chapters starting with chapter 157
For anything before that, I sort of summarized chapters 1-157 in this manga index that I haven’t updated or finished because I am lazy
You can also go through my tag god I love jujutsu kaisen. this is probably the best way to find my liveblogs and any non-chapter specific meta. hopefully Tumblr won’t fudge it
My CLAMP tags are a little bit all over the place but I typically tag under the series’ title or dammit seishiro why can’t you just be normal? and clampism is a mood.
Asks tags: ask the mental gymnastics anime girl (most recent) and a to the q! (the original tag before I became known for the mental gymnastics).
Anime/manga recommendations: #my anime box
More links under the cut...
I’ve also written “meta” or more like shameless shippy posts about:
Terror in Resonance
Gundam Seed
Soul Eater
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
Tokyo Babylon
Sankaku Mado no Sotogawa wa Yoru
Attack on Titan
More randomness about me below the cut...
I love writing + I love Psychology + I love anime/manga
Also, I’m opinionated and try not to take myself seriously. It’s a work in progress and it starts with self-acceptance.
Basically I ramble a lot and am a massive dork.
Since I have an academic background in Jungian Psychology you will see me write a lot about Archetypes in anime and manga, common tropes, and symbolism.
Therefore sometimes I wonder whether my username shouldn’t be...
theanimeliterarynerd
theanimedork
or a variation of the sort...
Oh well.

Jujutsu Kaisen Project
In order for me to properly nerd out on meta-Presidential levels as I analyze and break down JJK, I need to find specific scenes/panels in specific chapters. Something that’s not exactly easy with 158 chapters as of September 2021 and counting.
This helped me decide that I needed to start cataloguing the manga. That or maybe I’m just a masochist looking for an any excuse to re-read the manga.
Either way. The post below the cut will serve as an index for chapter breakdowns of the JJK manga.
Who’s got time for adulting anyways?
Housekeeping
A note on leaks and fan scanlations
I don’t believe I can stop piracy. It’s far too big for me to take on.
What I CAN DO is support Gege’s work by purchasing JJK manga tomes, official merch, and/or paying for a subscription to read the manga, the cost of the latter being minimal.
If JJK has impacted your life the way it has impacted mine, I want to encourage you to support Gege any way you think best. He’s given us the gift of his imagination and he deserves no less than our support as fans.
This index is a work in progress
The index will list the latest chapter first and I will be working my way out of order. Eventually, I plan on going back and re-reading the manga from the beginning as I look for more foreshadowing.
That being said, just be mindful that, not only is this going to take time, but the index will look sparse and incomplete in the beginning stages as I am adding new chapter summaries here and there.
Of course, it goes without saying there are manga spoilers up ahead.
Finally, not all past chapters will have an in-depth analysis linked to them. Those chapters that do have a more in-depth analysis will be underlined.
Favorite chapters are marked with an asterisk.

Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Index
Chapter 161: Tokyo No. 1 Colony
Amai, Hanyu and Haba introduced, they are targeting people who enter the colony
Megumi, being his usual exposition-dump-self, explains to Yuji about the sorcerers they might encounter inside the colony
When they enter the colony, however, Yuji and Megumi are separated and sent to different pre-set spots within the colony
Yuji is sent to the spot where Amai, Hanyu and Haba are waiting and is attacked by Hanyu. However, he easily knocks her down
Megumi runs into Remi who asks for him to be her knight in exchange for being led to Higuruma. Megumi agrees but threatens to kill her if she’s lying
Chapter 160: Colony
Kenjaku talks with Sasaki inside the Cursed Realm (the rift between dreams and reality). Kenjaku explains her home is inside the barrier he created for the Culling Game to take place and that she has the right to leave as part of the conditions of the barrier
Kenjaku thanks Sasaki for “getting along with my son”
Sasaki wakes up outside of the barrier along with other people who’ve had the same dream as her, at the exception that she was the only one Kenjaku has thanked
Hakari, Kirara, Panda, Yuji and Megumi look for Angel amongst the Culling Game’s participant names but have no luck, Panda assumes Angel is similar to Sukuna and may be listed under a different name
Hakari decides that he and Panda will go to Tokyo #2, Kirara will wait outside the barriers in case Yuta tries to contact someone, and Megumi and Yuji will go to Tokyo #1
Yuji wants to split up from Megumi but Megumi is not having it
7 days 12 hours left until Tsumiki’s deadline to participate in the Game
Team Hakari and Team Megumi prepare to enter their respective barriers
Chapter 159: Judgment
Exposition dump about Higuruma’s past as a lawyer and how he basically lost his shit
His Shikigami, if that’s what it is, is creepy af
Chapter 158: Kogane
Megumi masterminding + is he willing to kill for Tsumiki’s sake?
Has Yuji been “sleep-walking”?
Introducing Kashimo Kajimo
“Jujutsu sorcerers are a pain no matter the era”
*Chapter 157: Cogs
Megumi needs + Yuji is needed
Power of Friendship trope
Yuji as a cog shows how much he’s matured
Yuji stands up to Hakari and will not relent until Hakari agrees to help
Chapter 145: The back
It is revealed Yuki has met Tengen before. Tengen also reveals the name of the sorcerer who took over Naritoshi Kamo and Suguru Geto’s body--Kenjaku (the name suggests salvation and compassion according to Yuki)
Tengen answers their questions as long as two of them stay behind as bodyguards--he only asks Choso, Yuki and Yuta
Kenjaku’s goal: to force the evolution of all human beings in Japan by merging human kind with Tengen since Tengen has evolved and become closer to a cursed spirit than a human, in other words Kenjaku could use cursed spirit manipulation on Tengen
Tons of important exposition, it is implied Kenjaku has been attempting this plan throughout the ages
Toji’s intervention changed the course of destiny: “as a human being who had escaped fate through the power of restriction, he destroyed our destinies”
Culling Game explained
Tengen hands them the back of the prison realm and explains how they can use it
Angel is introduced
Chapter 144: That place
Megumi asks Yuji for his strength in the Culling Game to save Tsumiki
Yuji asks Yuta to kill him if he ever switches with Sukuna and explains that Sukuna has plans that involve Megumi
Megumi explains they have to go back to Jujutsu High to talk with Tengen about how to unseal Gojo and about Noritoshi Kamo/Kenjaku’s plans, Yuji thinks Yuki, who is hiding at the school too might know something too
Mandatory “what happened to Kugisaki?” super ambiguous moment
Choso explains he can get them all past Tengen’s barrier
Back at the school Yuta, et al meet up with Maki and Yuki
Yuki reveals that Maki survived the burns from Jogo’s attack due to Heavenly Restriction
Yuji introduces Choso as his big brother and Choso nearly falls apart with joy
As they are headed towards Tengen, Yuji notices blood stains on the floor along the way. Yuki alludes to the moment when Toji killed the Star Plasma Vessel and distorted everything 11 years ago
At first Tengen doesn’t appear right away so Yuki seems to think he’s rejecting her
Tengen introduces itself
Chapter 143: One more time
Yuta makes a deal with Naoya to use his revers ct to save him from the poison in Choso’s blood in exchange for reporting that Yuji has died
A quick look at Yuji’s parents + the twist of the century: brain gave birth to Yuji
Yuji wakes up and is surprised to find Yuta watching over him. Yuta reveals Gojo asked him to look after the other students if something happened to him. Instead of having a different executioner, Yuta made a binding vow to execute Yuji so that he could keep an eye on him. In other words, he killed Yuji and immediately healed him with his reverse ct--this is the second time Yuji’s death is staged
Yuta explains to Yuji he isn’t to blame for what happened
“Chose me as your purpose, I am begging you, I need your strength”
“As long as I’m around you will suffer”
Tsumiki is ensnared in the Culling Games and she looks unlike herself
Chapter 142: A big brother’s back
Naoya wants to know who Choso is considering his cursed technique involves blood manipulation
Choso manages to defeat Naoya by using his own ct, super nova. He also gives his big bro speech
Yuta arrives at the scene pulling Yuji’s body and attacks Choso
Chapter 141: The front of the back
Yuji and Yuta continue fighting. Yuji finds a knife and uses it to fight by imbuing it with cursed energy as Gojo once recommended. Eventually they break each other’s weapons
Just as Yuji is getting ready to attack once again, “Rika” renders him unable to move, thus creating the opportunity for Yuta to stab Yuji in the heart.
Yuta apologizes to Yuji
Sukuna’s reaction is interesting because he doesn’t stop Yuta but seems amused?
Choso and Naoya continue their battle
Chapter 140: Execution
Yuta enters the scene and Choso catches on that he’s there to execute Yuji so he tells him to make a run for it while he battles Naoya who’s only interest is meeting up with Megumi
Yuji makes a run for it but Yuta is able to keep up with it. They’re both impressed at each other’s abilities and realize they are each other’s opposite. They continue fighting
Chapter 119: The Shibuya Incident, part 37
Sukuna’s types of slashing attacks exposition dump
Malevolent Shrine explained: It’s different in that it doesn’t create a separate space using a barrier. The ability to realize one’s innate domain without using a barrier is akin to an artist painting a masterpiece not on a canvas, but on air. A truly divine technique; furthermore, by allowing an escape route, a binding vow is formed, which vastly increases the guaranteed hit’s effective area with a maximum radius of nearly 200 meters. For anything with cursed energy within range, cleave; for inanimate objects, dismantle. Until malevolent shrine is gone, it will relentlessly attack all targets within its guaranteed hit’s effective range--is Megumi’s DE like this too but he calls it incomplete?
Shigemo’s CT explained: Basically he’s super lucky and stores miracles... until his luck runs out
Sukuna kills Shigemo
Sukuna’s hand trembling and he thinks to himself “not much longer”
Sukuna drops off Megumi with Principal Yaga and Shoko so that they can heal him
Yuji is heartbroken by how things turned out
Chapter 118: The Shibuya Incident, part 36
Sukuna fights Mahoraga
Mahoraga heals itself and can see Sukuna’s CT
Sukuna realizes that Mahoraga’s ability is to adapt to all phenomena
“If it was me from that time it may have been able to beat me. You showed me the way Fushiguro Megumi”
Sukuna activates his DE Malevolent Shrine
Chapter 117: The Shibuya Incident, part 35
Exposition dump about how Megumi has grown with the 10 shadows CT and how he is supposed to exorcise his Shikigami on his own, otherwise the exorcism is null. But, “even a pointless exorcism has its uses”
Megumi appears to be at his limit and Shigemo believes it is a matter of time before he dies
Flashback: Gojo tells Megumi the reason the Zen’in and Gojo families are on bad terms is because two ancestors from each clan (a 10 shadows user and a limitless CT user respectively) died in battle (during Edo or Keicho) with one another. The implication is that Megumi can rival Gojo
But Megumi is doubtful and he interprets Gojo’s message as his ancestor having summoned Mahoraga in a “pointless exorcism” in order to kill his opponent
“Not a single 10 shadows user has been able to exorcise this one”
Shigemo realizes Megumi involved him in the “pointless exorcism” just as Megumi summons Mahoraga
Megumi goes into a state of suspended death
Sukuna catches on and goes to where Megumi and Shigemo are after telling Ura-Ume “it won’t be much longer until I’m completely free. Don’t neglect your preparations.”
“Don’t die, there’s something I need you to do”
Chapter 116: The Shibuya Incident, part 34
Sukuna fights Jogo with fire
On the verge of death, Jogo says goodbye to the other curses who’ve also died: Dagon and Hanami
Sukuna’s motivational speech for Jogo before he kills him (quite a good one if you ask me): Humans flocking together, curses flocking together, comparing themselves to those around them leads to weakness and stunts their growth. You should have burnt everything you desired to a cinder without thinking. To reach the heights of Satoru Gojo and not worry about the future or identity. But you lacked the hunger to take hold of your desires
How many times has Sukuna been incarnated? “Humans, Jujutsu Sorcerers, Cursed Spirits. You’re not bad compared to those I fought over the last thousand years. Stand proud, you’re strong”. These last words make Jogo cry/feel emotion. Sukuna kills him as he tells him he doesn’t understand the emotions he’s feeling
We are introduced to Ura-Ume
Megumi looks dead and a large shadow hovers over Shigemo who looks panicked
Chapter 115: The Shibuya Incident, part 33
Basically Sukuna toying with Jogo the whole time
Hint at Sukuna being able to steal CTs?
Chapter 114: The Shibuya Incident, part 32
Ogami’s grandson’s body returns to normal
Megumi is pretty beat up as it is when he gets stabbed by Shigemo
Kusabe and Panda are looking for victims and exploring around Shibuya when they run into some of pseudo-Geto’s accomplices
Real Geto’s will explained: If Satoru Gojo is incapacitated and the world falls into chaos, the non-sorcerer monkeys will be the ones who suffer. Only the strong will survive. Monkeys will be weeded out, sorcerers will increase and curses will disappear
Sukuna and Gojo continue their fight
*Chapter 113: The Shibuya Incident, part 31
Megumi vs. Toji
Megumi tries to think big again: “Imagine a future version of myself beyond my limits”
Megumi doesn’t have enough CE left for DE, his only option is that Shoko can heal him if he is badly injured
“He (Toji) is like Maki but fully realized”
Toji attacks but after stepping into Megumi’s shadow he loses his balance and thus his attack misses. Megumi is still injured but it could have been worse
Megumi counter-attacks and tries to stab Toji but Toji is too fast and gets away
Megumi does not seem to want to summon Mahoraga
It seems Toji’s soul comes back online and he has a flashback of having a conversation with Naobito about the Zen’in clan buying Megumi for his CT. To Toji, this is the best he can do for his beloved child since the Zen’in clan values strong CT
Favorite moment: Toji asks Megumi for his name. When Megumi answers “Fushiguro” Toji, at last, recognizes Megumi and stabs himself in the head to kill himself so that he doesn’t continue attacking Megumi on instinct. His last words to his son are “good for you”--insinuating he’s happy Megumi did not go to the Zen’in clan
Chapter112: The Shibuya Incident, part 30
How about I kill every human in Shibuya? All but one, that is
Go back and re-read
Chapter 111: The Shibuya Incident, part 29
Toji’s attacks weaken Dagon and they are all able to leave his DE
Megumi is exhausted
Toji, acting on pure instinct to fight the strongest opponent, chooses Megumi as his next target and takes him out into the street
Megumi does not recognize Toji because he’s clearly never seen himself in a mirror
Jogo shows up and easily defeats Nanami, Naobito and Maki
Naobito’s technique explained (but I honestly skimmed through it)
Nanako and Mimiko feed Yuji one (?) of Sukuna’s fingers
Exposition dump: Geto tells Jogo that if Yuji were to eat a large number of fingers at once he would not be able to control Sukuna
Jogo prepares to feed Yuji 10 of Sukuna’s fingers
Chapter 110: The Shibuya Incident, part 28
Toji, the puppet of carnage, is acting on pure instinct fighting the strongest opponent. He takes playful cloud from Maki and fights with it
Playful Cloud’s strength depends on the user’s strength
Basically Toji kicks Dagon’s ass
Chapter 109: The Shibuya Incident, part 27
Megumi and Dagon are locked into a DE tug-of-war
Nanami realizes Megumi’s DE is exhausting him and pushing him to his limits
Megumi reveals his plan is to open a hole in the domain’s barrier so they can escape, not to enter into a tug-of-war
“Even if I risk my life, I don’t plan on throwing it away”
Toji breaks into Dagon’s DE through the hole Megumi created
Chapter 108: The Shibuya Incident, part 26
Dagon’s DE is very similar to Megumi’s in that it uses Shikigami to attack and has a very deep source of cursed energy (the ocean)
Naobito uses Secret Art Falling Blossom Emotion to counter-attack the “can’t miss attacks of a DE” with cursed energy
Maki is the weakest
Megumi breaks into Dagon’s DE with his own DE, he hands Maki Special Grade Curse Tool Playful Cloud
Chapter 107: The Shibuya Incident, part 25
Nanami, Maki and Naobito fight Dagon and find that even two grade 1 sorcerers struggle can’t exorcise it
“You have massive amounts of cursed energy” Naobito talking about Dagon
Maki feels ashamed Naobito saved her
Dagon uses domain expansion to trap Nanami, Maki and Naobito
Chapter 106: The Shibuya Incident, part 24
Choso recognizes Yuji as one of his “little brothers”
Nanako and Mimiko want to feed Sukuna’s fingers to Yuji
Nanami, Maki and Naobito run into Dagon
Maki is told this enemy is beyond her grade
Chapter 96: The Shibuya Incident, part 14
When Satoru Gojo was born the balance of the world was altered
Saturo Gojo depicted as a Christ-like figure
We see Megumi’s tactical genius + rabbit escape for the first time
Chapter 93: The Shibuya Incident, part 11
The curses decide to kill Yuji--as long as curses emerge as the true humans, they might not need Sukuna
Sukuna is a contingency plan if prison realm doesn't work out
Megumi, Nanami and Ino join Yuji after learning Gojo was sealed
“If we lose, the age of humans might be over”
Chapter 79: A Taste of Things to Come
Gojo tells Megumi about Toji and how he left the Zen’in family to have him and kept him hidden as a trump card to sell if Megumi manifested an inherited CT
When Gojo is about to tell Megumi he killed Toji, Megumi interrupts saying he doesn’t care because he doesn’t remember what his dad looks like because it’s been years since he last saw him. We also find out Tsumiki’s mom abandoned them too
Gojo asks Megumi if he will want to go to the Zen’in clan and Megumi answers that it depends on whether Tsumiki will be happy there. Gojo says no and that he’ll take care of the situation but Megumi will have to work hard
October 19, 2018: Gojo wakes up from a nap surrounded by Yuji, Megumi and Nobara
Utahime takes Yuji, Megumi and Nobara to look for one of the moles, she seems to believe there is at least two of them with one of them feeding information to the other and the latter being higher ranking than Yaga
The mole is revealed: Mechamaru (Kokichi Muta). He agreed to give information to Geto and Mahito in exchange for Mahito healing his body with idle transfiguration. Mahito is forced to comply due to a binding vow
Binding vow explained: When binding vow with self, worst that can happen if broken is that you loose what you gained; if made with another person, retribution is unknown
Mahito heals Kokichi’s body but he will try to kill him next so Kokichi prepares to fight Mahito
Chapter 78: Premature Death, part 3
Gojo learns Geto killed his entire village, including his parents, from Yaga
Geto and Shoko run into each other out in the street and talk about why Geto killed everyone in the village.
“I’m going to create a world of only jujutsu sorcerers”
Shoko called Gojo and when Gojo arrives he confronts Geto but does not have it in him to kill his friend
Gojo tells Geto it’s impossible to create a world of only sorcerers because killing all non-sorcerers is impossible, but Geto challenges him on that assumption, telling Gojo he could do it if he wanted to
“Are you the strongest because you’re Satoru Gojo, or are you Satoru Gojo because you’re the strongest?”
Geto becomes the leader of a cult
“I don’t like monkeys, that’s the truth I chose”
Gojo meets Megumi for the first time
*Chapter 64: It’s Like That
Exposition dump about how sorcerers are promoted
Mei Mei and Todo playing ping-pong. Todo hopes he’ll be assigned to go on a mission with Yuji but Mei reminds him it won’t happen since Todo is the one who recommended him for promotion
This chapter takes place after a mission and Yuji, Megumi and Nobara go their respective ways
A previous classmate of Yuji’s, Yuko, stops Nobara and asks her for help with Itadori. Nobara recruits Megumi’s help and they eventually call Yuji over
Flashback to middle school when Yuji is asked who he likes from his class and he answers he likes Yuko because the way she writes and eats is elegant
*Chapter 58: The Origin of Obedience, part 4
Megumi realizes the Yashohachi CS has eaten one of Sukuna’s fingers and is stronger than the one from Cursed Womb Arc. Yuji eating Sukuna’s finger is what triggered this particular CS to activate its curse
Flashback of a conversation between Gojo and Megumi about Megumi not knowing how to bring out his best because he can’t see a stronger version than his current self
“You are underestimating yourself and others instead of envisioning yourself as being stronger in the near future... winning by dying and winning even if you die are two completely different things, Megumi”
Everybody’s favorite Megumi, Feral Megumi, appears out of nowhere, like whoa!
Megumi’s most inspirational speech: “Picture it in your head. With no boundaries! A future me that can surpass his limits.”
Megumi manifests a domain expansion--the pinnacle of JJS, and uses it to overwhelm the CS. Megumi continues expanding the definition of his technique and eventually kills the CS
Chapter 44: Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event: Team Battle, part 11
Megumi and Kamo fight
“I don’t care if I’m right or wrong, I only believe in my conscience. I will follow my conscience and save people. If you disagree with that then let’s agree to curse each other.”
Bansho/Max Elephant is revealed to be Megumi’s newest Shikigami
Their battle is interrupted by Hanami’s attack
XXX creates a barrier
Chapter 11: A Dream
Gojo explains he became a teacher at Jujutsu High because he has a dream
Yuji and Sukuna are inside his innate domain. Yuji is upset with Sukuna for killing him so he attacks him but Sukuna finds him boring and easily dodges his attacks and overpowers him
Sukuna reveals that the fact that they are inside his innate domain means they are not dead. “If you accept my terms, I’ll fix your heart and revive you”
“The game has changed. Soon we’ll see something interesting”
“I have two conditions: 1 You agree to let me take over your body for one full minute when I chant enchain. And 2 you will forget about this agreement” but Yuji does not agree
Sukuna explains binding vows to Yuji and adds a third condition “what if I promise not to kill or hurt anyone during that minute?”
Yuji refuses again so Sukuna convinces him to fight. If Yuji wins, he revives him without conditions; if Sukuna wins, he revives Yuji with the binding vow. Yuji looses
Gojo continues explaining his dream to Ichiji. He wants to reset the Jujutsu world, for that, he needs to educate and foster allies
Just as Shoko is about to get started with Yuji’s autopsy, he comes back to life
Gojo asks Shoko not to submit a report saying came back to life
“Geto” explains to the curses the best they could do against Gojo is run away from him and that the way to seal him away for good is using the Prison Realm special grade cursed object
Chapter 10: After the Rain
"Geto” talks with the curses about having used one of Sukuna’s fingers to “get information about Sukuna’s power”
Gojo discusses with Ichiji the fact that he thinks the higher ups sent Yuji, Megumi and Nobara to the juvenile detention center to get rid of Yuji. It is implied whomever sent them on the mission knew that the curse was considered special grade but did not disclose this important detail
Shoko prepares to dissect Yuji’s body
Megumi and Nobara discuss Yuji’s death. This is the first time Megumi looses a classmate
Maki, Toge and Panda are introduced as the 2nd years at Jujutsu High. They want to recruit Megumi and Nobara to participate in the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event
Exposition dump about the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event
Back to “Geto” talking with the curses at a restaurant, they discuss the curses’ goal of getting rid of humans and becoming the true humans
“Before the war, you’ll need to meet two conditions to win: First, immobilize Satoru Gojo and remove him from the fight. And second, make an ally of Ryomen Sukuna and Yuji Itadori”
Is Yuji really dead? Yuji and Sukuna talking
Chapter 9: Fearsome Womb, part 4
“The only thing fair about life is how unfair it is to everyone”
Megumi fights Sukuna to try to convince him he has to heal Yuji’s heart in order to defeat him but Sukuna basically kicks his ass
Sukuna, on the other hand, finds Megumi amusing because he fights in 1-to-1 hand combat on top of using Shikigami that are formed from his shadow instead of talismans: “what a great cursed technique”
“You gotta feel the curse more”
Sukuna destroys Megumi’s Shikigami, Orochi
We get to see Tsumiki for the first time, he has a monologue about saving people unequally
Megumi starts the ritual to summon Mahoraga which gets Sukuna excited, but before anything happens Yuji takes over his body once again. Megumi tells Yuji he’s never regretted saving him: “I didn’t want to see a good person, no matter how dangerous, die... I’m not a hero, I’m just a JJS”
Yuji dies
