Some elliedina (ellie x dina) headcanons I have thought about (the last of us 2 / tlou2) |

Dina is usually the little spoon, but Ellie sometimes wants to and embraces being the small spoon and lets her. This usually helps Ellie to fall asleep on nights she may be struggling to sleep.

Ellie is so shy in giving pda, so they have minimum pda usually unless Ellie is really wanting to do it more often.

Dina listens to Ellie talk and ramble for ages about space/dinosaurs/comics/etc. She will listen all the way.

Ellie (adhd + autistic) girlfriend and Dina (adhd) girlfriend who is more organised and on schedule, just the truth.

Dina is always early or on time, Ellie is always late even by a few minutes

Ellie learnt how to slow dance originally from Dina for Cat mainly before the two got together, though Ellie never danced with Cat because by then their relationship was over.

Ellie denies she has a type, but she does and Dina is the cleanest painting of her type.

Ellie adores being complimented by Dina despite how flustered it makes her, her favourites are being called handsome, hot stuff, pretty, and Dina being the luckiest to have her.

Favourite dates for them are movie nights, art nights, game nights, or dinner together.

If they lived in the modern world, without the outbreak Ellie would be a tattoo artist and Dina more than likely a florist or nurse.

Jesse years before they got together had tried to set them. He always knew about at least ellies crush on Dina, ultimate wingman.

Dina hobbies would be dancing, baking, cooking, exploring, games, and gardening for sure.

Ellie secretly tries to bake things for Dina, but most times, it's nearly sets the house of fire.

Ellie would be considered the nerd in the relationship, but Dina is secretly a massive one as well.

Modern day wise, these two would love Yellowjackets for sure, Dina's favourite characters would be Van, Taissa, and Jackie. Ellie's favourites are Shauna, Jackie, Van, and Lottie.

Survivor!Joel: Who didn’t die that snowy day, Jesse got mistaken for Joel. *Sorry Jesse fans for the sake of the scenario*

Survivor!Joel: That JJ was still named Jessie Joel after his dad of course and Joel due to his importance to Ellie.

Survivor!Joel: Who was with Dina when her water broke. He comforted and carried her to the clinic before Ellie’s and Jesse’s parents arrival thinking about when Sarah was born.

Survivor!Joel: Who both Dina and Ellie laugh at and call gramps when he held JJ for the first time. Little do they know it’ll catch on.

Survivor!Joel: That occasionally took care of JJ when the patrol schedule got hectic and he wasn’t busy.

Survivor!Joel: Who had to bring Ollie (the elephant) back to the farmhouse way too often from when it was left at his house.

Survivor!Joel: That was awoken one morning at about 1am to see both Ellie and JJ on his porch.

J: “What the hell…”

Ellie who’s really panicked and almost in tears: “Dina’s on patrol and he wouldn’t stop crying and he won’t eat and if I set him down he cries again so I came all the way here and I don’t want what to do-“

Survivor!Joel: Ushers Ellie into the house and takes JJ from her to try and rock and settle him. All while reassuring Ellie at the same time that it was okay and sometimes babies just cry.

Survivor!Joel: Who whispered to JJ and held him close like he used to do with Sarah when she was upset. It worked like a charm for both Sarah and now JJ.

Survivor!Joel: Convinces Ellie to go to bed which she does on his couch and he continues to calm JJ.

Survivor!Joel: That stays up all night if he has to in order to comfort a fussy JJ.

Survivor!Joel: Who was telling stories to JJ about Jesse while they were sitting on the porch rocking in the chair as JJ had one of Joel’s fingers in his mouth. Joel didn’t mind, it comforted JJ.

Survivor!Joel: That got bit in the middle of a story he was telling.

J:”Shit!”

Survivor!Joel: That now realizes JJ was so fussy because he was teething. He goes inside to wash his hands before setting JJ steady on the counter and gently lifting his lip.

J:”Well I’ll be damned. You got some teeth now huh?” He says and then looks back at his finger that was bit earlier.

Survivor!Joel: Let a rag soak in ice cold water before giving it to JJ to put in his mouth to soothe the pain since teethers weren’t a very common find.

Survivor!Joel: Who Ellie finds holding JJ on his hip while making breakfast for him and Ellie. She’s in awe and begs him to teach her.

Survivor!Joel: Who Dina always trusts with JJ. She was overjoyed when JJ’s little teeth started to grow.

we’re opening the floodgates people because the only thing i think about ever, and what i WILL shout from the top of every rooftop i come across

DINA IS THE PERFECT WOMAN.

i don’t care. i don’t care what anyone else says. i don’t care if your opinion is different because you’re wrong.

she’s witty, she smart, she’s incredibly fucking kind, patient, and yet so strong willed and never not willing to speak her thoughts even when she’s unbelievably scared. she’s so perfect it hurts honestly.

one of the things that breaks me the most about dina and ellie’s dynamic throughout the entirety of part 2 is dina’s part in it all. her, irrevocably in love with one of her closest friends, JUST after finally confessing to one another officially is suddenly thrust into a WAR where she can only be a bystander. ignoring the whole pregnancy thing, just that is fucking insane.

and she handles it with the utmost care and patience. moreso than honestly anyone around her deserved (not that these characters didn’t deserve kindness).

i could go in depth about how much i believe ellie williams is one of the best representations of PTSD in modern media today but as much as seeing that breaks me, watching dina deal alongside her is infinitely worse. ellie is a character who has just lost her entire world basically, only a few years after seemingly losing her purpose for being alive at all. with no closure. she’s sad, she’s angry, she’s broken, she feels essentially unloveable.

and dina treats her with the gentleness of a morning breeze. you know the thing thats like “character who feels unloveable and the other character who loves them like its breathing”? yeah.

dina is patient, kind, stable. she is exactly the thing that ellie needs. she never blames ellie for her outbursts, she never insinuates that ellie should get over her emotions faster, and even better she doesn’t even treat ellie like glass that could shatter at any moment. she just loves her. in the easiest way one could possibly be loved.

and its hard. it’s difficult and they both go through an unbelievable amount of trauma together and yet they still come out on top. they’re still able to build the semblance of a life together in the ashes of what they’ve lost.

as someone who identifies a lot of myself in ellie. everything about their love and how they love each other does nothing but break me apart. its so full of hope yet so layered in nothing but destruction. it really is the worst kind of despair. especially because of their end. all of that work and just the existence of trauma is what throws it back in her face.

i am not the most eloquent person. im sure my thoughts are jumbled and insane and hard to understand when i write them out like this. but there are so many aspects of this games that are so fucking admirable. naughty dog found a way to tell a tragic story full of people. not good people, not bad people. just humans, and the world would devolve into when pushed to the absolute edge. and even before that. it is a story of the human race at its most raw.

and its heartbreaking. its enjoyable, its sadistic, its humorous and it’s absolutely gut wrenching. its beautiful.

this series will probably never not be my favorite game ever. i will scream about it and look like a crazy person, and i will keep finding more and more things to love about it.

but this is a ramble when its really supposed to be a dina appreciation post. i love her. everyone should love her. she’s such an amazing person and i think about her constantly. i hope that wherever she ended up, her and JJ live the happiest and most fulfilling life they can.

She wanted to scream. All the time she wanted to scream. I mean, Jesus, she did scream, every single day when it got to be too much she put one conversed foot in front of the other and she ran as fast as they could take her away from her house, their house. She ran into the trees and they ripped her clothes as she crashed against them and when she was sure she was far enough away (or her lungs simply couldn’t work any longer) she would scream. She screamed so loud it shook the birds from the pine trees and sent shockwaves through the dirt. 

She does it every day. And it never helps. 

Somehow, Dina never screams. 

Dina smiles. She rocks JJ in her arms and tucks Ellie’s choppy hair behind her ears like Ellie used to do for her. She washes their clothes and cooks their dinners and sits for hours on end so that Ellie can paint her beautiful face. She’ll put down her dishes to kiss her cut up lips, let her run away when Jesse’s parents come to visit, put on whatever music Ellie wants  — She’ll do whatever Ellie wants. 

That’s not entirely true though. She won’t let Ellie starve even though she can’t bare to eat and she won’t let Ellie’s grief rot inside her like floodwater in floorboards. She won’t let Ellie stay quiet, not talk about it, even though that’s all she wants to do. There was a time when Ellie actually wanted to talk about the bad things that had happened to her. 

About Tess...she had said, about Henry and Sam... 

No he’d said, you never bring it up. 

I wanna talk about it.

No.

Despite it all she’d still tried to talk about the people she’d lost, they’d lost. But Joel isn’t someone she’s lost. That wasn’t the half of it. It wasn’t his bleeding skull that was the problem, the skin of his leg turning purple from where Abby had put the tourniquet on it to prolong his suffering. No, that wasn’t even the issue. 

It was the way his fingers had flexed toward her as they locked eyes on that freezing floor. The way his lips had opened and closed, trying to say her name. 

What was he going to say? She’ll never know. They never got to talk again, and now she can’t either. 

Dina wants her to talk so bad, but she can’t make her either. So, she makes sure Ellie has her journal and her paintings, her woodcarvings and the garden. She makes sure Ellie has something to shoot (even if it is so that they can eat) and if Ellie wants to take her clothes off to feel better for just a little while, she’ll let her. Ellie knows that —

and it makes her sick. 

She doesn’t want Dina to do this. She wants Dina to let her disappear. She wants Dina to stop tucking all her own grief into a little shoebox and shoving it under the bed. She wants Dina to scream, to cry over her son’s father’s dead body, to blame Ellie for his death. She wants Dina to say no when Ellie asks and she wants Dina to stop making food that she knows Ellie will just end up vomiting into the sink. She wants Dina to stop rubbing her back when she wakes up with her nightmares and most of all she wants Dina to stop being so fucking fantastic, so loving, so perfect. She doesn’t want to be this way anymore, so alive and bright and touched by the sun. She just wants to go back to that godforsaken basement in Jackson, back to the cold concrete floor across from him. Wants her blood to pool with his, dead, gone, but maybe they would still be together. 

She wants to wrap herself around him. Take his limp and bleeding body and hold it in her arms. She wants to bear her teeth and growl at anyone who tries to get close. She won’t let them. She won’t let them take him away, won’t let them bury him, or take his watch off his wrist or his revolver from his back pocket. She won’t let them peel his jacket from his body and wash the blood out and his smell away with it. She can’t let them do that. 

Because he’s hers. Not Dina’s, not Jesse’s, not Maria’s, not even Tommy’s. Hers. She knew it, and maybe she’d pretended she didn’t for a bit because it was just like her to do something that fucking stupid and be an asshole to the only person who ever loved her but she knew. He may have never said it, because what a weird fucking thing to say to a person, but she knew. She was his. He was hers. 

Only he’s not hers anymore. And she’s not supposed to be his anymore. She’s supposed to be Dina’s and god, does she want to be Dina’s. Life would be perfect if she could be Dina’s, and JJ’s, and Tommy’s, and Maria’s. 

But she’s Joel’s. So she screams, and when Tommy comes and announces that she is in fact, not Joel’s (and not his either), she sticks Joel’s revolver in her back pocket and wraps his clothes around her stupid, immune, emaciated body. She packs food she knows she won’t eat and her own stupid clothes she knows she won’t wear. They smell wrong, they fit too tight, and they’re always going to be covered in blood. She packs a map and her knife and she peels herself away from the bedroom door where her family sleeps. Her potato, her Dina, her babies. 

They’re hers, but she can’t be theirs. She knows she can’t when Dina’s hands are wrapped around her face, begging to be. Stay she says. I can’t Ellie responds. 

And she wishes it wasn’t true but it is. 

Because she’s not Dina’s, 

she’s Joel’s.

I personally think Ellie was-like back in Jackson months after Abby bashed Dina’s (hot) nose in (poor girl). But I think Ellie was definitely like confused but also would say “you’re doing so good babe” take one look and pass tf out.

Personally I also believe that Jessie’s parents helped her out too.

Imagining Mother! Dina who’s very overprotective of her son, JJ. Literally, is on parenting websites in the middle of the night freaking out because she seen a tiktok about how bad it is to drink from a plastic water bottle.

Imagining Mother! Dina who cries more than the child when getting his shots done. It’s safe to say both Dina and her son walked out of that clinic with a lollipop in hand!

Imagining Mother! Dina who has a ipad kid. Legit can hear her from a mile away with her son’s loud ass ipad booming cocomelon or some shit.

Imagining Mother! Dina who does gentle parenting.

“Here comes the airplane!” she says before blowing raspberries causing JJ to giggle, and clap his little stubby hands together.

Imagining Mother! Dina who’s also a first time mom and freaks out over any little thing therefore rushes to the JJs primary doctor.

“He was coughing rather too hard!” she says, trying not to burst into tears.

“He should be right as rain with a little Tylenol.”

“Are you sure?” she asks, looking down at her baby who’s sleeping peacefully in his car seat.

“Yes, Miss Woodward. It’s not an early sign of an lung disease. He just has a little cough.” He reassures, crossing his arms.

A sigh of relief leaves the mother and up comes a smile. She didn’t care how annoyed the doctor looked from Dina bring JJ down to the clinic for the third time this week. She just wants her little potato to be safe.

Imagining Mother! Dina who catches JJ’ s first words on camera.

“Alright, this is, uhm, day four of trying to get your first words on camera!” Her voice can be heard in the background sounding, or at least trying to be, optimistic. JJ can be seen sitting on his little play mat, playing with Ollie.

“Cmon baby, can you say ‘mama?’

“Ma-ma” she repeats, but says each syllable.

JJ can be seen looking up at Dina, and smiling, showing off his two little front teeth that he has growing in. “Ma…ma.” he babbles, flailing his arms around excitedly.

A scream so loud can be heard from Dina, one of excitement. “Yes, baby! Mama! I’m mama!”

The pure look of terrified mixed with utter confusion that is recorded on the baby’s face is pure comedy.
