Yesterday, my friend Xenia told me she had seen a shelling near her house. (To obey local law, evidence cannot be provided. To know more about the law, see the case of Wang Jixian.) I was glad to see she was safe, but this incident aligned with my most broken-hearted concern about her safety. I couldn’t do anything but draw this instead even though my effort couldn’t resonate much with all of you. I almost burst into tears when I drew it, to be honest.

Activity description:

A Study Visit to China Organized by Confucius Institute

Reflection:

The study visit took place at Tianjin University of Technology and Education (TUTE), which is the organizer of this study trip in collaboration with the Confucius Institute of the University of Banja Luka. During this visit, different lectures, workshops and cultural visits to various sights in Beijing and Tianjin were organized, such as the Great Wall of China in Jixian County, Tiananmen Square, part of the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, Porcelain House, the grandiose Tianjin Binhai Library and other places in Tianjin. This was the best trip in my life. I met great people, learned about Chinese culture and even the basics of Chinese language. China is very rich in culture and traditions and our hosts made sure that we leave China with the best memories in our hearts.

On this date three years ago, a man walked into Hubei Provincial Hospital in Wuhan, China, reporting flu-like symptoms. Within two weeks, there were 27 cases showing similar symptoms. Then, just four days before the end of the year, the head of the hospital’s respiratory department, Dr. Zhang Jixian, made a report to state health officials that the cases were caused by “a novel coronavirus.” At that point, the number of known infections was approaching 180.

Dec. 1 may have been the official start of the local novel coronavirus outbreak that would become a national epidemic that would become the COVID-19 pandemic. But it certainly wasn’t the first actual case. As early as March 2020, a review of health records suggested that the first case had actually been seen in Wuhan as early as Nov. 17, and that there had been a steady trickle of new cases for two weeks before that first official case.
