Happy Hispanic Heritage Month Pt. 2: Latina Seymour Dreamcasts!

I noted in my Hispanic Heritage Month post that, as far as we know, there’s yet to be any Latina actors who have debuted as Seymour. @lightleckrereins and I have talked about that a few times on and off and thrown around some ideas for who we might want to see. We were holding out hope for Cassie to be the first, but of course that didn’t happen. However, that means I’ve had a mental list* of actors who could be the first debuting Latino/a/e/x Seymour for a while now, and in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month I thought I’d post some of them! This is nowhere near comprehensive even just in terms of who I’d like to see, but it's a handful who I'd particularly like to see. A few others are coming up in some other dreamcasts I’ve been working on too.

For some of these I have specific alt covers noted that I’d like to them as, for others I don’t which usually means just Seymour in general. Most of these actors could also play/cover other roles, but since the focus of this post is just on Seymour I didn’t want to get too heavily into all of my individual dreamcasts for each!

Do you think that we will get updated photos and new Playbill covers when Bre, Kerri, and Brennyn join the Broadway cast? Plus, are they going to put the Aragon Tour on the cover for future tour stops?

I'd guess no on changed Playbill covers for Broadway. It's very rare for those to be changed from the original Broadway opening night cover for either that Broadway production or a tour. When they do change it, it's usually because the Broadway cover had the likeness of a specific actor and a) the incoming lead actor in that role is a "star" figure that want to promote (think Waitress changing their covers for Sara Bareilles and Ciara Renee) b) the incoming lead actor in that role is of a different race/ethnicity than the original, and they want to better represent that in marketing (again you can think of Ciara Renee and even Jisel Soleil Ayon in Waitress, or the current Anastasia tour marketing changing for Kyla Stone although that doesn't extend to their Playbill) c) they want to make it more generic and not as specifically that cast, in which case they usually just change to a more simplistic cover with purely the show title/logo (which both Anastasia and Waitress have also done with recent tours)

The Aragon Tour did change to Option C. But most of those reasons don't apply to Broadway. Six is promoted off of the show overall rather than the inclusion of any particular star. The actors' race and ethnicity do differ as it's race-blind casting, but a diverse cast has been a core ethos of the show from the start and isn't something that would differ from the current Playbill/marketing (even if the race of some of the individual actors does differ). If they were going to change I would expect it to be Option C, but they can't make that switch without switching *all* their marketing (theatre wrap, subway ad, buses, posters) as well and that's very expensive.

For similar reasons I don't expect them to add the Aragon Tour cast to the Playbill. Right now they have Option C, so just a simple generic cover with the Six logo and no actors on it. It's cheaper to print, it allows for cast changes, and doesn't feature the principals over the understudies too much. It just works well for the show and Tour set up.
