I think when Arcane shifted the story to focus on one of those world-ending threats it somehow made the world smaller. The relationships became less intimate and more rote to the plot. When we do get strong character moments, the way their actions should reverberate across their network is cut off.

For example, when Jinx chose to set fire to The Last Drop it was a really striking moment for Jinx as she reached rock bottom, but the show fails to grapple with the fact this was also the place Sevika was living and working in. Act 2 of Jinx Fixes Everything revealed that Sevika had been sleeping and working in Silco's office ever since he died, dealing with her own grief that way.

Sevika probably has a home to return to but that isn't the point, the point is Jinx destroyed a place that wasn't just significant to her and members of the main cast, but the larger community that is Zaun. How does Sevika react? How does she still choose to work with Jinx after this moment? What about the other members of Silco's gang that followed Sevika into battle? The Last Drop was a part of a lot of people's lives, and Sevika is emblematic of that deep attachment, but we can't see her grieve it's destruction because there's no space for it in the show.

vi is so fucking fascinating to me, I am studying her like a bug in a jar

she was a CHILD putting on her father's gauntlets in spite of the fear gathered in her little body, in spite of just witnessing someone she's known all her life die in a HORRIFIC way (benzo), still she rises, still she says I HAVE TO DO THIS still she takes on men three times her size and fucks them up so bad that silco has to send his shimmered up fucked up monster to try to stop her and STILL she persists, indifferent to the worst happening because she’s survived the worst already. furious and unstoppable and determined to do whatever she has to survive and ensure those she loves survive, no matter the cost.

vi under all that debris, bruised, bleeding, screaming, watching her family die, staring at the monkey head in shock and crying because this can't be happening, they were so close...

sobbing in pain until her father saves her just to watch helpless as he dies protecting her. they were so SO CLOSE to surviving, so close to escaping and everything gets ripped away in a second

vi trapped in that prison cell for years and years on end with the ghosts of her family and her guilt for company, drowning in guilt, wondering if her sister's still alive, no doubt thinking about how she LET her slip right through her fingers

the last thing vander said to her was "take care of powder"

she's let the man who's her FATHER and loves more than anything down.

"whatever happens is on you" / "protect the family" / "take care of powder" .... but she can't, not anymore, she's fucked it up and let everyone down (re "I should have been there for you, for everyone") all she can do is sit in that shitty prison cell, on that freezing floor, hungry, bloody, counting the hours until she can somehow rescue powder

Vi is piercings and tats that no doubt got infected, she's a child becoming a woman too fast, she is a danger-zone high-risk disaster area and won't back down, won't give up.

Vi is soft!! self-sacrificing, protective, supportive. ("You wanna talk about today?", "We've all had bad days, but we learn, and we stick together") brave, SMART, witty. she's got a tongue sharp as her fists and a barbed, delicious sense of humour. she gives people nicknames (cupcake, pow pow, pretty boy) and fights with everything that she's got to protect what she loves!!!! she is her father's daughter!!!

she is idealistic and expects the world to see her reason, look at things through her eyes and wanna make a change ( "This is how things are, how they've always been. I was so stupid to think it could change. / "oil and water that's all there is" )

and yes! vi is not flawless. she's obsessive (re sevika. to her eyes she is the last thing standing between her and silco/getting to silco and saving jinx) and complicated, morally ambivalent because she makes mistakes, flies off the handle like a comet crashing through everything in her way, makes reckless choices because she has to. she is selfish when it comes to jinx and would do anything to keep her safe.

thinking about how desperately jinx wanted silco to have peace in his afterlife. when she lays him to rest his eye is closed and his clothes are clean, if she saw his one eye open still looming up at her or the holes in his body as he sank she wouldn’t be able to let go. she says vanders letter would’ve changed everything despite being the closest person to silco an knowing that’s not true. she imagines him saying gentle things about moving on and forgiveness, even though she knows he’d never say that, because she needs to think he’s found solace or she wouldn’t be able to live with herself

"Lost the Firelights"!!! Maybe that's referring to events in season 1, but who knows with season 2.

On one hand the hearts are cute. On the other hand I'm getting vibes that Jinx is going to shoot Ekko in the face, specifically his right eye.

If she did that would explain all the weird eye horror in the Firelights' mv.

And that scene where Jinx shoots a firelight and it immediately cuts to the back of Ekko's head.

What do you like about Eddy? Do you really think him and Double D will work out?

I think Eddy is the most interesting, deep, complex and well-written character on the show. It seems contradictory to say this, but even though Double D is my favorite character, I think Eddy is the best character. He's full of content for psychological analyses, something I'm passionate about doing because I love psychology and writing, I love analyzing human behavior, so complicated characters like Eddy are perfect to me in that sense (just as I am fascinated by Jinx from Arcane). I have so much to say about Eddy, I feel like every day I think of something new about his character, and I find this so exciting!

My analyses of each Ed will only be done in the future after I rewatch the show another two or three times, so I won't write here everything I have to say about Eddy. But you can find some of my EEnE analyses by scrolling through the posts in this tag. I talk about him in some of them.

But about Eddy and Double D... EddEddy is my OTP, you know? I've already talked a lot about them, and of course I'm going to talk much more in the future too. You can read a little about what I think of their relationship here.

In "short":

Eddy's backstory and his character development fascinate me. Characters who are emotionally broken to the point of developing a problematic personality fascinate me. Characters with mental disorders or traits of mental disorders fascinate me (I personally see him as ADHD with borderline and narcissistic traits, and perhaps a bit of histrionic traits too). I love analyzing and understanding what led them to that point, what made them so difficult to deal with, what hurt them so much that they developed an emotional armor and/or that makes them act like selfish jerks. The way Eddy's brain works fascinates me, his behavior, his defense mechanisms, everything. And to me the best part is seeing the little moments where the show shows us how he actually has a terrible self-image deep down and is not as confident and secure as he tries to show himself to be. I love seeing a character who isn't just a jerk, but someone who acts like a jerk because of things that happened that he tries to hide or that he doesn't even understand or realize happened (Eddy's reality denial defense mechanism is very strong, so I think a lot of the things related to his brother he genuinely didn't realize were problematic and had hurt him because his brain denied them to protect him. And it's common for our brain to block memories as a way of protecting us from the truth because it thinks we'll not have the emotional structure to deal with it, and I believe it may have happened to him), someone who is deeply hurt and does everything he can to hide it, someone who doesn't want to be emotionally vulnerable and tries to act like the most confident person in the world... Characters like this are the most interesting to me. And besides, I find Eddy extremely funny and annoying in an adorable way. I love his chaotic behavior, his voice and the way he talks (God bless Tony Sampson)

He and Edd were made for each other. Would they kill each other if Ed wasn't around? Absolutely. But their relationship is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and the combination of their personalities is what makes them grow and have their character development. They mature and improve because of the influence they have on each other. Their personalities complement each other perfectly because one is good where the other has to improve. And the love and affection they have for each other is visible and makes me emotional

I'm haunted by AUs so here's another one my brain chucked at me at full speed. This is mostly just copy pasted from my discord rambles. I've dubbed this au "Mad scientist imp!freelancer".

I wanna make an imperium au where Freelancer breaks under the imperium and becomes like a mad scientist researcher at the academy but literally refuses to speak to anyone except for Vindemiator and Lasko (and Huxley and Damien if I bullshit enough)

Maybe Lasko is feeling proud of freelancer for finally seeing what he sees in the imperium (or smth like that idk) and just spoils them with like their own lab and whatever supplies they want and stuff.

Lasko has to personally check up on them bc they'll just yell and throw shit at anyone else that comes knocking on their door (the wall next to their door definitely has holes in them from throwing pens and pencils)

Can and probably will destroy the academy if they don't get to see Vindemiator on a regular basis

I can see mad scientist imp!freelancer and Lasko and the insane amount of knife play intentional or not

They only act like "normal Freelancer" around Vindemiator bc he doesn't have to see the side of them that broke under the imperium and also bc he brings them back to reality (they're soulmates you can pry this from my cold dead hands)

Probably has to be dragged to the cafeteria by Huxley bc I can imagine them overworking themselves on whatever branch of magic they're researching. Screaming profanities while being carried like a log. (and Huxley making sure they actually eat before dragging them back to their lab so they don't hurt any other students)

I want them to terrify other students(and maybe even teachers)

Bc showers are powerful in giving people ideas, I got a short timeline(?) of events as to how Mad Scientist Imp!Freelancer meets Damien

Rak'Xit reborn au happens

Rak'Xit hides in Freelancer's mind, acting like their subconscious, and only revealing himself when Freelancer starts to suspect him

Freelancer tells Lasko about it (likely not immediately but maybe after a while)

Lasko tells Damien (probably shouldn't hide the fact that someone resurrected a sovereign)

Damien pays Freelancer a visit and asks a few questions(this one I actually have thought of in more detail)

So Damien interrogating Freelancer.

Lasko brings Damien into Freelancer's lab, Lasko tells Freelancer about the interview, they say they'll maybe do it if Lasko increases their visit time with Vindemiator, and he does.

Lasko walks out and Freelancer gives Damien 10 questions he can ask. (I did come up with the entire conversation but in fear of mischaracterisation I didn't write it down)
