Reminder: The Jinnobi Challenge 2023 starts in less than a month!

Hello everyone! here’s a little reminder about the Jinnobi Challenge! You can get all the Challenge information and FAQ right here, but here’s a quick reminder about a few things.

When is it?: August 1 – August 31 , 2023. Any Jinnobi (also known as quiobi) work you submit must be complete and it must be submitted sometime during the month of August. PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR SUBMISSION BEFORE THE CHALLENGE STARTS.

Who can enter: The challenge is open to writers, artists and everyone in between. Art, poetry, photo manips, videos, gifsets, fanfiction, it’s all welcome. There’s no theme except it has to be Obi-Wan Kenobi/Qui-Gon Jinn.

THERE ARE PROMPTS THIS YEAR IF YOU WANT TO FOLLOW THEM ( you don’t have to though, it’s totally up to you!).

message me with a link(s) to your work(s) once you’ve published it in August so I know to put you on the Master List.

You may use whatever social network or fanfiction site you are comfortable using. Please tag your work with the tag Jinnobi Challenge 2023 or The Jinnobi Challenge 2023 whether it’s a fic, art, or a post and do not forget to send me the link.

I tend to check tumblr at least weekly so if you have any questions, shoot me a message. :)

Rules & Info

The relationship between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan must be the focus of the fanwork, and that relationship can be either gen or romantic.

The fanwork must be a new piece of work: a. New work posted to a pre-existing series (i.e. a part 2, not a chapter 2) is allowed. b. New chapter posted to a pre-existing fic/WIP (i.e. chapter 1 was already posted prior to cards going out) is not allowed.

No under 18 spicy content, i.e. both characters must be over 18 in NSFW/smut fills.

Label, rate, and tag your fills accordingly. Tag your Tumblr posts sharing your entries and completed bingos for us to reblog appropriately. Clearly indicate in your posts whether the entry is NSFW and if any content notes or trigger warnings apply. a. If using Tumblr to post your entries, the content of your written entries must be below a cut, and all NSFW or triggering content must be below a cut.  

One new entry can fulfill multiple prompts. a. Example 1: a 3-part comic and each part fills a different prompt. b. Example 2: you write a 4 chapter fic and each chapter is dedicated to a different prompt while still being one complete story.

Crossposting to this event and another is allowed, provided that the other event also allows crossposting.

Tag #quiobibingo and @quiobibingo to be reblogged, and add your entry to the AO3 collection.

If you would like to swap any squares for any reason, we can swap them out for you up to May 25th 2023. You can swap up to 5 squares, however this can only be done once.

OT3 fills are welcome, however as this is a QuiObi bingo, the relationship between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan must be the focus of the fill.

Only completed entries count as fills (we will reblog all tagged works but if your fill is incomplete at the time we close the bingo, we may remove it from the AO3 collection).

All entries must be works of your own creation, and must not have been posted prior to cards being sent out. AI generated art, fic, or other fanworks are not considered to be of your own creation. 

Co-writing and other collaborations are allowed.

How do I sign up?

To sign up, you will need:

A working email address

A nickname for the event (this can be the same as your AO3/tumblr/discord handle or can be different)

To fill out this form!

Once we receive your completed form we’ll put a card together for you. We will start sending out cards on May 11th 2023 and will do our best to send everyone a card out on that day. If you have not received your card within a week, please let us know by emailing quiobibingo@gmail.com or messaging us via tumblr DM with the name/email you signed up with.

Can I request a second card?

You can request a card (or a second/third card) up to two weeks before the bingo ends by filling in this form.

It may take us a little time but we will try to get a card out to you as soon as we can. If we haven’t sent you a card within a week, please email us at quiobibingo@gmail.com with the email and nickname you signed up to the bingo with.

How to fill

After signing up, you will receive your personal bingo card with the nickname that you signed up with on it and a transparent PNG stamp by email. Here’s an example of an empty card:

If you would like to use the stamp (credit to GavImp for designing it), place it over any prompts you fill to keep track, and post your progress! You can use any image editing software that supports transparent PNGs, including browser-based editing software like https://pixlr.com. 

Where to post?

You can post anywhere you want.

You can start posting for the bingo as soon as you get your card all the way up to the final day of the bingo (December 31st 2023).

After you post each fill, FILL IN THIS FORM.

This will help us to keep track of what prompt you have filled, which badge you can get etc.

The Jinnobi Challenge - 2023

Hello everyone! As per usual I’m letting you know super early about the Jinnobi Challenge coming up in August so that everyone has plenty of time to get started on work(s). This will be the 7th annual Jinnobi Challenge (previous master lists of submissions : 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022).

So here’s all the info and FAQ for those who are thinking of participating in this Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon challenge (I will repost this info periodically as it gets closer to the challenge). I have added a new rule to the challenge so be sure to check that out below.

3. If you post anything triggering, please tag it with the appropriate warnings

4. Your fic must have a rating on it (the challenge is open to all ratings)

5. If you’re posting a long WIP, the first chapter must be posted on or after August 1, and the last chapter has to be posted before August 31, so I don’t recommend it unless you know you can get it done in that time.

FAQ:

What if I don’t have anything ready, but I do have a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan work I happened to post in August?: As long as the quiobi fic (or art, etc) is complete and was posted between the 1st  and 31st of August 2023, you can tag it Jinnobi Challenge 2023 and enter it in the challenge.

What if it’s not slash?: This challenge celebrates the Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan ship. Pre-slash is fine, just please no ‘Qui-Gon as a parent figure to Obi-Wan’ fics as that is not what this challenge is about.

What if it’s a fic in a series?: if it’s a standalone complete story in a series than yes, it qualifies.

What if I already entered it in a different quiobi fic challenge?: The fic must be a new fic posted in August 2023 (no reposting old works unless it’s an extreme rewrite to basically be nothing like the original) and it must be complete. It’s ok with me if it is tagged in another challenge as long as it meets the guidelines for this challenge but you’ll want to check if it’s ok with the other challenge you posted it in.

What if it’s Obi/Qui/others? Or there’s Obi/other, Qui/other, but still Qui/Obi?: The main pairing should still be Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon, even if it’s poly, or if there are other partners or past/present relationships.

Does it have to follow a prompt?: No. As long as it’s Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan and complete it can be about anything. If you want a prompt to work with here are a few you can choose to use for inspiration:

1.       Lost outside in bad weather

2.       One character secretly makes a gift for the other character.

3.       A friendly but ongoing disagreement about jedi philosophy/lightsaber technique/force skill.

4.       An undercover mission that doesn’t go as planned.

5.       A kiss at an unexpected time.

Can be as angsty, fluffy, or as AU as you want as long as it follows the rules of the challenge.

Is there a prize this year?: Yes! I want to continue having a prize each year. Each person who enters in the challenge will be automatically entered once into a drawing and I will randomly draw a name once the challenge is over. (I’ll have a more detailed post about the prize in a few weeks)

By the first or second week of September, I’ll put up a master post with links to all the amazing stuff everyone has created!!!

The Jinnobi Challenge 2023 Prize (Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan)

Wondering what the prize is for the 2023 Jinnobi Challenge in August?

It's quiobi stickers! You can slap these on anything they stick to and proclaim your love for the Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon ship or you can do what I do when I get cool themed stickers/art stuff and hoard it like some sort of fandom dragon who is afraid of using it on anything and thus never touches it.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ok don't be like me if you win this prize. ;)

Remember entering in this year's challenge will automatically put you in the prize drawing for these stickers (I swear they look better than my crappy phone picture quality shows). If you’re entering multiple times in the chance of winning more, sorry. No matter how many times you enter a work or art in the challenge you’ll only be entered once in the random drawing for the prize.

If you are this year’s winner, I will contact you privately the first week of September to figure out shipping details and such. I’ll announce the winner publicly once I put up the Master List of all the amazing works submitted for the 2023 Jinnobi Challenge! (which will probably be the second week of September)

Prompts for the Jinnobi Challenge!

Hello everyone! Just a reminder that we are a little more than halfway through the 2023 Jinnobi Challenge (it runs until the end of August).

if you're stumped for ideas but you still want to enter something, (remember there's a prize you can win if you do enter!) don't forget that there are these prompts you can use!

I do insist on complete works but that doesn't mean it has to be a long work. drabbles and well done sketches still count as art/fic options for the challenge! :)

Hello everyone! It’s March which means it’s time for me to be really early about mentioning the Jinnobi Challenge happening in August! This is the 8th annual Jinnobi Challenge and it feels very strange to write this and know this all started back in 2017 when I was lamenting the lack of Qui/Obi challenges.
