A Retrospect of the ITCPE 2023 in Guangzhou

In May 20–22, organized by Hong Kong Allallinfo Media Group, Guangzhou Allallinfo Co., Ltd., and the magazine, Textile Printing, the 2023 Guangzhou (18th) International Textile Clothing and Printing Industry Expo (ITCPE) was successfully held in Guangzhou Poly World Trade Center.

Renowned enterprises and experts are gathered at ITCPE 2023, focusing on the business opportunities of the garment and textile printing industries. In the spot, all kinds of products are dazzling: not only automatic screen printing machines, industrial digital transfer printing, and DTG equipment, but also customization solutions, digital printing consumables, and supplies, all kinds of apparel accessories, DTF solutions, embroidery and sewing machines and consumables, and so on.

High Contract Rates

This exhibition is fairly successful since many exhibitors received new orders on the first day, and the incessant orders were witnessed in the follow-up two days. The overall satisfaction of the exhibitor is rather high, and even large booths were preordered.

Many exhibitors told us that the ITCPE is an expert stage and they harvest fruitful contracts. They praised that it is an established exhibition; hence, they get lots of new orders, and they will continue to be the attending companies.

So far, the three-day ITCPE 2023 has come to a successful conclusion here! We'll see you at 2024, 20, March!

Our partner in Wuyishan, Li Xiangxi, visited potter Lin Xi at his studio to check out his latest firing of Jian Zhan tea cups and lend a hand getting them all packed up to send our way.

Jian Zhan, the pinnacle of black porcelain, was the most popular style during Song Dynasty when powered tea (muo cha) was whisked to be enjoyed and the white foam against black teaware was considered visually appeasing. Muo cha (matcha), together with Jian Zhan (tenmoku) went to Japan during Song Dynasty, and upon those the Japanese later developed their own tea ceremony which continues to today. China, however, during Ming Dynasty, moved from powdered tea to loose leaf, and Jian Zhan had since declined while white porcelain, which shows lighter liquor of brewed tea better became popular. When you come to Tea Drunk at The Met, make sure to walk around and visit the porcelain collection around the balcony. Today, we’re really excited to launch a new collection of hand made Jian Zhan teaware from artist Lin Xi!

Meet the Artist: Lin Xi

Master potter Lin Xi set up the Taishou Jianlou Research Institute to study Han and Song Dynasty tea culture and firing techniques. He is dedicated to reviving the lost ancient art of Jian Zhan through meticulous research, hand made glazing and clays personally excavated from Song Dynasty sites.

Unlike many studios, Lin Xi personally oversees every aspect of his work without help. As a single artist, Lin Xi makes his own glazes, throws his own cups, and fires every batch personally.

Lin Xi works with our partner Li Xiangxi and the Yangxian Institute on building Jian Zhan fit to revive the Song Dynasty style dian cha ceremony, and has won many awards for his striking work. We are excited to represent his rare and highly collectible art for the first time outside of China.

ABOUT JIAN ZHAN

“Jian Zhan pottery is made in Shui Ji, Jian Yang, an ancient art dating back to the Han dynasty, also known as Jian Yao. It is the most famous of the eight great pottery schools of the Song Dynasty.

While Jian Zhan was fired as early as the Han dynasty, it became an imperial tribute art in the Song, offered to the emperor.

Because Jian Zhan is incredibly difficult to produce, and very few pieces fire successfully to finish, it is an incredibly costly and laborious art. Tribute quality pieces were picked from countless firings and countless individual pieces. Jian Zhan became known as “min yao, guan yong” the labor of the people, the pleasure of the court.

Song Huizong, emperor of the Northern Song elaborates on Jian Zhan in his treatise on tea Da Guan Tu Lun:  “Jian Zhan is a prized midnight blue, woven with lines of jade.”

In the Song dynasty tea competitions, Jian Zhan was the most suitable preparation vessel, and with the imperial endorsement, every Song scholarly aristocrat would part with huge sums to acquire the finest pieces. Cultured Song poets praised the refined enjoyment of Jian Zhan. During this golden age, Jian Zhan was brought to Japan where it became known as Tenmokku, a Japanese national treasure.
