Getting into the politics of the Eurovision is messy so I'll spare you the details lol but the voting system has changed so many times and the calculations aren't always clear, like they have lawyers and stuff to make sure nothing is "rigged" but at the same time they don't tell us how they calculate everything lol but yeah, we're used to being mad it's part of the tradition lmao and also! Don't be ashamed of being American! I was just surprised an American knew the Eurovision existed lol

"נועה?" קולה של אביב נשמע ליד דלת הכניסה, ולאחר מכן נשמע רעש סגירת הדלת. "נועה, הצלחתי להביא קרמבואיים." בת זוגתה בחמש שנים האחרונות הכריזה בהתלהבות, זורקת את מפתחות הרכב אל עבר הקערה שנמצאה ליד דלת הכניסה לדירה שלהן.

"אני במטבח!" נועה קראה, בדיוק מנמיכה את האש כאשר אביב נכנסה והניחה את שקיות הקניות על השולחן, מורידה את המעיל שלבשה ו��לתה אותו על הכיסא במטבח.

"היי." אביב חייכה אליה, מסיטה שערה סוררת אל מאחורי אוזנייה, ורכנה כדי לנשק את נועה. "איך היה שיעור הנהיגה שלך היום?"

נועה שתקה לרגע. "היה בסדר." אמרה, ואז הכריחה את עצמה להמשיך את דבריה, "הוא אמר שרק עוד כמה שיעורים ואולי הוא יגיש אותי לטסט פנימי, ואם הטסט הפנימי ילך טוב אז –"

אביב חייכה והחלה להוציא את הקניות מתוך השקיות. "זה נהדר, לא? תראי איך התקדמת רק בחודש אחד! לי לקח מעל שבעה חודשים אז שהוצאתי את הרישיון." אביב חייכה אליה בעידוד, ונועה הכריחה את עצמה לחייך בחזרה.

כשהתקשרה לבשר לאמא שלה שעברה את התיאוריה (בפעם הראשונה שנבחנה, למען האמת), אמא שלה הייתה שקטה מעבר לקו עד שהיא אמרה: "אוי נונ'לה... בשביל מה את צריכה את זה... את כל כך אוהבת רכבות ותחבורה ציבורית, למה את צריכה את הרישיון הזה, ואם יקרה לך משהו –"

"כי אני רוצה." נועה אמרה, וזו הייתה האמת. או לפחות, חלק ממנה. היא אהבה לנסוע ברכבות ובאוטובוסים, אבל היא גם אהבה לנהוג. מהרגע שעלתה על ההגה בפעם הראשונה נגלה בפניה עולם שלם שהיא לא הייתה מודעת אליו, ואחת המטרות שהציבה לעצמה זה להוציא את רישיון הנהיגה שלה כמה שיותר מוקדם.

"אני פשוט חושבת שזה לא לכולם, נונ'לה." אמא שלה ניסתה לומר בעדינות, "ואת כל כך אוהבת את הרכבות.. בשביל מה את צריכה רישיון.. אני ואבא תמיד אוספים אותך שאת מגיעה לארוחות שישי לפעמים בלי אביב ו –"

"אמא." נועה זוכרת איך החזיקה את הטלפון אז, קרוב אליה, נלחמת בדמעות שאיימו לרדת כשקבעה: "אמא של אביב מצאה לי מורה באזור שאחד התלמידים שלה למד אצלו, וקבעתי לי שיעור נהיגה בשעה 17:00 ואם זה מפריע לך אז אמא של אביב אמרה שהיא תהיה המלווה שלי בחצי שנה הזו, את בכלל לא חייבת."

"נונ'ה..." אמא שלה ניסתה אז, "זה לא מה שאמרתי, מובן שאני אשמח להיות המלווה שלך כשתוציאי את הרישיון, אני פשוט לא חושבת שזה לכולם ו-"

כמו עם הצבא, נועה חשבה לעצמה אז. שניסיתם לשכנע אותי לעשות שירות לאומי במשך חודשים עד שהחלטתי שאני מתגייסת.

"אמא." נועה אמרה, "זה שאת הוצאת רישיון בגיל 17 ומסרבת לנהוג מעל לעשרים שנה זו לא הבעיה שלי." ואז, לפני שתתחרט על דבריה, היא אמרה שהיא חייבת ללכת.

"הינה, קחי." קולה של אביב החזיר אותה אל המציאות, והיא בהתה בבת זוגתה, לפני שהיא ראתה שהיא מגישה לה קרמבו מוקה מאחד הקופסאות שפתחה.

נועה לקחה את הקרמבו ונגסה בו. "ביררתי לגבי ביטוחים היום." אביב נידבה את המידע, "אני חושבת שזה לא יצא כל כך יקר, אלא אם כן ההורים שלך עדיין מתכננים לקנות לך רכב –"

"אני ��א רוצה." נועה אמרה, והביטה בסיר האורז שעל הגז, סוגרת אותו כאשר וידאה שהוא מוכן. "יש לנו את הרכב שלנו, וזה מספיק."

למען האמת, זה מעולם לא היה הרכב שלהן. הסיבה היחידה שנועה קראה לרכב הזה 'הרכב שלנו' זה כי אביב וההורים שלה (ונועה, גם) חיפשו במשך חודשים רכב קטן וקומפקטי, ולבסוף – שהלכו לאחת הסוכנויות לראות את הרכבים – אביב התעקשה שגם נועה תשב במושב הנהג.

"אבל אין לי רישיון." נועה מחתה אז, והביטה בבת זוגתה בבלבול קל.

"אז מה?" אביב הביטה בה בחזרה, "שימי את הידיים על ההגה, תרגישי אם הוא נוח לך, תקרבי את הכיסא – את מזיזה את הידית שם בצד בשביל זה." היא הסבירה בעדינות, ונועה זוכרת איך הן ישבו לפחות שעה וחצי ברכב הלא מונע, עם דלת הנהג פתוחה, וידיה של נועה אחזו בהגה עד שמרפקי כפות ידיה היו לבנות, עד שהיא הרגישה שאולי – זה הרכב שהן צריכות.

הוא היה קטן, בצבע אדמדם לכיוון בורדו, והיה עליו כמה שריטות מהפעם ההיא שאביב נתקעה בברז כיבוי לפני שנתיים, אבל זה היה הרכב שלה, האחד בו הן נסעו בו לטיולים בצפון ולים המלח, עם מערכת הרדיו הישנה, עם קורא הדיסקים שאביב התעקשה שיהיה שם כי ‘אני אוספת אותם כמו פוקימונים’ ונועה זוכרת איך היא צחקה מזה אז. האחד שהשאירו בשדה התעופה שנסעו לחו"ל לשבועיים, האחד שהיה שייך להן, בכל מובן המילה.

ונועה לא רצתה שההורים שלה ינסו לקנות לה רכב אחר, מתקדם יותר, או שהם ינסו לגשר על הפער ועל השיחה שקרתה עם אמא שלה בטענה שהם מוכנים לקנות לה רכב שהוא לא שנת 2009 לדבריהם ("הרכב של אביב הוא שנת 2015" נועה אמרה בקור, "ואנחנו אוהבות אותו ככה.")

"אה." אביב אמרה, ונועה הביטה בה שוב, מנסה להתנתק מהמחשבות שמילאו את מוחה כאשר אביב סיימה לסדר חפיסות הפסטה בארון במטבח, ליד השימורים וקופסאות הקרמבואים במדף הממתקים במגירה התחתונה. "אז ביררתי לגבי ביטוחים, היה לי קצת כמה שעות פנויות בפקקים בדרך הביתה."

"מצאת משהו מעניין?" נועה התיישבה באחת הכיסאות במטבח.

"מבחינת ביטוחים? לא ממש." אביב הודתה. "אמא אמרה שהיא תתקשר לכמה חברות ותעשה השוואת מחירים, כי גם ככה צריך לחדש את הביטוח בעוד חודש, ואז כבר נוסיף אותך."

"ומה אם לא אוציא את הרישיון בעוד חודש?" נועה הניחה את הקרמבו על השולחן, חרדה עולה בה מהמחשבה הזו.

"אז נוסיף אותך לביטוח בעוד חודשיים." אביב אמרה, כאילו זה לא עניין גדול, ואז פנתה לכיוון הכיור, שוטפת את ידיה לפני שמזגה לעצמה אורז ולצידו שעועית שנועה הכינה מוקדם יותר בערב.

"את רוצה גם או שאת רוצה לסיים את הקרמבו קודם?" אביב שאלה.

"אני אסיים את הקרמבו." נועה אמרה.

אביב חייכה אליה ברוך. "אין בעיה." היא התיישבה בשולחן המטבח.

נועה קמה בכדי להכניס את החפיסה הפתוחה אל מגירת הממתקים שלהן.

"נועה," אביב קראה.

"כן?" נועה לא הסתובבה אליה עדיין.

"תשאירי אחד בחוץ גם בשבילי."

Seeing Danny and Laura in a 2020 Tumblr post is crazy and yet! And yet! Thank you for reminding me they exist lol what's your fave headcanon or detail you can't stop thinking about?

Man, they live rent free in my head constantly and sometimes I'm like...can y'all just leave please? But they never do. They never. Do.

As for favorite detail/headcanon: probably that they are SO IN SYNC. In a lot of scenes you can see them simultaneously look at each other and it's just like...so endearing?? And a real testament to their partnership. Like yes, I ship them romantically obviously, but that bond...that friendship is just so strong in them that I just do NOT understand how we're supposed to root for Laura and Carm when that exists. (I understand the appeal, just not my cup of tea) And I love how they're always there for each other. Danny is ABSOLUTELY Laura's rock in season 2. From the "I'll take care of it" to "the right thing" it's just...god. It's a tragedy. A TRAGEDY. That they never got a real shot.

English translation of Céline Sciamma’s screenplay for Portrait of a Lady on Fire/Portrait de la jeune fille en feu

Dear Portrait Nation:

This is an English translation of Céline Sciamma’s screenplay for Portrait de la jeune fille en feu that was recently published by Plain Archive. There are a number of typos in the screenplay.  Those that appear to be on Plain Archive’s part, such as misattribution of dialogue to the incorrect character, have been corrected.  The typos that seem to have been Sciamma’s (though really, there is no way to know for sure) have been preserved.

We have also preserved most of the punctuation as it appears in the Plain Archive screenplay.  The result is what Grey only half-jokingly refers to as Sciamma’s tone sociopathy: in many instances where you would expect a question mark, for example, she simply uses a period.

This translation attempts to reflect Sciamma’s style of writing and doesn’t alter that for the sake of clarity.  There are sentence fragments and also what appear to be camera directions that may be her personal shorthand cues to convey the visual or emotional gist of the scene.  

There are many places where the dialogue here deviates from the official English subtitles seen in the film.  For the most part, these are due to translation choices that attempt to convey what’s actually on the page: unlike the subtitles, we weren’t constrained by having to compromise about what would be readable onscreen within the time allotted by the rhythms of the scenes.

The translation may be downloaded here.  This document was a true labor of love; we ask only that you not attempt to pass off the work as your own or sell it for profit. And if an official English translation ever becomes available for sale by Céline Sciamma and Lilies Films, please support it to the best of your abilities.

A personal note: I am indebted to @tonovember for her tireless work in putting together the transcript of the Plain Archive screenplay, as well as for formatting the translation into its final form. @morningmightcomebyaccident was invaluable in proofreading my endless drafts and acted as chief critic, goad and cheerleader. @ladyonfire28 contributed greatly to the translation and saved me from making a complete ass of myself on far too many occasions. @hedawolf kindly vetted the Italian dialogue for accuracy.  These brilliant women challenged me to justify my choices, flagged anything questionable for discussion or debate, and frequently came up with the perfect word or phrase that had eluded me.  Any errors or inconsistencies that remain are entirely my fault.  Thank you, Nov, Grey, Aimée and Vittoria: you made this immeasurably better.  And thank you, Céline Sciamma, for creating this exquisite masterpiece.

i watched it like mayhaps a year ago after putting it off for ages and honestly i felt like a sem girl again, in love with my best friend whomst i slept like, right next to on multiple occasions and being in an environment so full of feminine energy that was so homoerotic i cant handle it it was honestly the most jarring experience
