Jewelry
Website : https://www.arielmarvin.com/
Ariel has been making art for the better part of her life. She got her start in jewelry with bead making and very basic designs simply to make jewelry that she liked to wear. People started to take notice and eventually began commissioning her to do custom pieces. Curious by nature, she is constantly searching for new ways to express herself through different art forms and through different mediums. It wasn't until she forged a relationship with a well known and respected native jeweler Dina Huntinghorse, who inspired and opened the door for her to get into silversmithing, that she found an outlet that was not only effective at this, but therapeutic as well. " I really enjoy making something seemingly eternal whose meaning is fleeting but who s form is rather permanent. It s meaning can and often does change throughout the years, but it s form never does. I just love these two juxtaposing qualities. We can only guess what that pendent found in a tomb that been sealed for for four thousand years symbolizes but what we cannot argue is that it is in fact a pendant”. It s a kind of mediation for Ariel, and each piece is a somewhat cathartic experience for her, from it's inception to it s execution until she put s the final polish on it and it is done. Each one is special to her and she hopes one of them can be special to you. You can contact her at any time by entering your info below… cheers!

POPULATION 300 - JAKE SIM
TEASER 1
synopsis : it was some bullshit that jake had to stay in a city barely on the map called elmbridge rather than going to italy with his best friend. being forced to spend a whole summer there, all jake expected to be there was old people, not a girl who hasn’t left his mind since that one night at the gas station.
word count : .9k
genre : summer love, jake x fem!reader
warnings : mentions of suicide
playlist : tba
expected release date : next month lol
i. SUMMER TRIP TO NOWHERE
There were two things that Jake hated most in the world. Heights, and going away from home.
When Jake was five, before going on a trip to an amusement park with his mother, he was fine with heights.
But when his mom and him had reached the top of the mock Eiffel tower during their day out, and Jake had managed to watch someone’s last moments on the tower as they decided to take their own life, it was a different story.
The header: “24 Year Old Man Takes His Life After Plummet From Mock Eiffel Tower at Ark Island Amusement Park”. Forever engraved in Jake’s mind, he swore to himself to never intentionally put himself in a situation where he would be so high in the air that anything remotely similar could happen to him, someone he loved, or even a stranger.
On the other hand, the idea of going away from home just irked Jake in such uncomfortable ways that he grew to resent it. The resentment eventually turned into hatred.
So, when it was revealed to him that he’d have to spend his whole summer in some nameless town in the middle of the U.S. with his aunt rather than spend his summer in Italy with his parents and best friend, Sunghoon, naturally he declined. In what right mind would anyone choose an unknown town over Italy?
Clearly his aunt would.
No matter how much he tried to persuade his parents out of it, no matter how much he attempted to convince his aunt that taking him and his younger cousin, Huiyeon, on this trip was a bad idea, and no matter how much he struggled to make Sunghoon talk to his parents about taking him to Italy anyways — because they clearly loved Jake enough to at least try and do so — instead of ‘Middle-of-Nowhere-Ville’, all his trials ended fruitlessly.
Because two weeks after receiving the proposal of the trip, here Jake was, sitting in the passenger seat of his aunt’s half-working 1998 Ford Escort, trying to drown out Billy Joel by using his hand-me-down cassette player from his dad.
Seated behind him was assorted bags that each person inside the car had chosen as essentials to bring, Huiyeon: some old dolls she’d bought with her mom at an antique store during a trip to a small town in Oregon, her quilt since birth, dress up clothes, and of course clothes suited for a seven year old such as herself; Jake: about 20 different flannels, about 20 different cassettes, an ugly doll that he originally was going to leave at home, but since his mom considered it ‘necessary’, he packed it in his suitcase to appease her, and his polaroid; and his aunt, Seulyi: clothes you could typically find any 31 year old wearing, a picture book, a couple cassettes she had found for Jake, and some jewelry.
There were also more bags in the trunk, loaded with clothes. Due to the trunk space being so unexpectedly small, each person only got to pack two bags of clothes. The remaining things that needed to be packed were left in the bags in the backseat row, or left at home, due to lack of room.
A newly awakened Huiyeon interrupted the comfortable silence — aside from the Billy Joel songs from the radio — in the car.
“Are we there yet?” she yawned, stretching herself over as far as she could in the row without touching the bags that occupied the spot next to hers. One hand rubbed her left eye while the other one was shaken. “My whole body feels fuzzy.”
“Like TV static?” Jake questioned. He figured she was trying to wake her body up from falling asleep.
“Yeah. I feel fuzzy.” She responded, yawning a second time.
“We’re almost there,” Seulyi reassured from the drivers seat. Huiyeon and her met eyes from the rear view mirror, “give it about 20 more minutes, Hui.”
As Seulyi focused her attention back on the road, Jake took this time to fully take off his headset and pause his cassette.
“Hey, Aunt Seulyi?”
Seulyi hummed a half response.
“What’s the name of this town again? I forgot to look it up when I still had my phone…” Jake semi laughed. His phone was probably on his dresser at his house, or maybe in his parents room. Two days before the trip, they’d confiscated it in hopes that ‘he’d learn to keep away from it for a while’ and ‘he’d actually have to connect with people his age in real life’. Apparently, according to both them and Seulyi, the service there was horrible anyways.
What a load of bullshit. If Jake had to guess, the town would most likely be filled with old people, not anyone his age he could connect with.
“The town is called Elmbridge. The population is only around three hundred people, so it’s more than likely you’ll see the same people more than once while you’re down there.” Seulyi informed. “That means don’t pull anything dumb, Jake.”
Seulyi glanced in his direction, not in a way to berate him, but more in a warning way. Jake half assed a laugh as he turned out to face the window to watch trees as the car flew on the highway.
“Also, just to let you both know, we’re about forty five minutes away from actual human civilization,” she joked, “so this experience will be something interesting for us all.”
a/n : ive been formulating this story since 2020 LMFAO originally i wrote it with nct’s renjun in mind but i felt bad for emu having a sad ending for jake so here is his redemption arc

I contacted Walgreens customer service to inform them of yesterday's fuckery and religious discrimination. Let's see what comes of it?
Update on the Walgreens mess! I sent an email to the corporate office and the store manager called me. Turns out the pharmacist couldn't give me a vaccine due to not being registered with Oregon Medicaid (called OHP), and is required to be registered in order to give vaccines to people who have OHP. The tech was flustered due to being understaffed, dealing with lots of people, and unfamiliar with the rules and regulations about OHP. I received an apology, the pharmacist has sent the necessary paperwork in order to perform vaccines, and the manager also apologized for the scheduling system not alerting me to the fact I wouldn't be able to get vaccines that day due to the pharmacist. I was also informed no one at the pharmacy knew what the symbol on my shirt meant, nor the symbolic jewelry. Personally, I'm amused. It's good this was reported because it forced the pharmacist to file paperwork that should've been done before their first shift months ago. I've also had to deal with places turning me away for BS reasons when I wear anything blatantly pagan. Whether I was told the truth today doesn't matter much to me. What matters is the complaint was noted, the pharmacist is in trouble, and we know we will never be going to that location again.
Part of the ongoing ChaosFay Shirt Saga.
(And you can visit my Redbubble if you'd like to get your own and cause similar havoc!)
For reference, this is the design on the shirt:

I think, next year, I'm gonna take a class on how to sew my own clothes. I have a hard time reading patterns and figuring out the basics of how. For context: hemming is a mystery for me. My brain just...can't figure it out. Is it my dyscalculia somehow? Something else? The couple lessons I've had weren't very comprehensive for me because of my being autistic ADHD. My mom also doesn't have the most patience for teaching, which certainly didn't help.
Videos haven't helped at all. I'm the sort who needs their hand held when learning something new. After I comprehend and understand it, I take off. This happened with watercolors, macrame jewelry, traditional piecing, foundation paper piecing, music (I was a musician, but no more for a several reasons), baking, cooking (I just really don't enjoy cooking), and so much more.
A class or personal lessons are very necessary, but neither are free nor cheap. Next year, I'll see about getting lessons from either one of the various schools or finding someone to sit down and explain the how and why. Going to a fabric store in order to learn how to choose fabric, and bringing home some to practice with, will also be necessary.
Having learning disabilities, memory issues (thousands of seizures have a massive effect on the brain), and requiring accommodations is so frustrating. It used to be embarrassing, but life is too short to worry about how people perceive me anymore. No f***s given in that regard. I just need an instructor who is patient enough they don't get hostile when they have to repeat things more than twice.
If you're in Oregon, we'll versed in the construction of clothes, vaccinated and boosted, don't mind wearing an N95 mask or better (and wearing it properly) and willing to give me personal lessons, hmu. We may be able to arrange something.
Thank you!

How to fall in love via Deneuve Magazine Personal Ads Circa 1993
❖ Go to your mailbox and see that your latest issue of Deneuve magazine has been delivered. It’s in a plain brown envelope, but you still take it all the way inside the house before you open it.
❖ Take a moment to gaze at the cover and appreciate the fact that it’s named after Catherine Deneuve in honor of her sex scene from The Hunger which awakened us all.
❖ Flip past the first few pages of ads. Do I want to fax away for a brochure about the chance to go on a Kenyan photo safari with the world’s first out lesbian commedienne? What about the Olivia Thanksgiving cruise?
❖ Enjoy the Editor’s Column about how our new President Clinton has pledged to make real progress for the LGBT community. Bask in the warm glow of happiness knowing that the gay dark ages are finally coming to a close.
❖ Chuckle at Alison Bechdel’s ad for the Feminist Bookstore Network and wish you had one of those stores near you.
❖ Keep up with the state of the lesbian nation via the letters to the editor. Aren’t the repressive laws being passed in Oregon and Colorado shocking? Goddess bless that Kentucky baby dyke having to dodge the KKK at her high school 🙁
❖ Read the wedding announcements and get all choked up, remembering why you’re here. Resist the urge to flip to the end and see if there’s anyone new from last month. Hope springs eternal!
❖ Oh, the 20th anniversary of Naiad Press! I love their stuff! Especially how all the covers look like they’re printed with ink that was on sale. I wonder if they have any more copies of that Lesbian Queries book from 1990???
❖ Audre Lorde sure is gonna give them hell at the march on Washington, eh?
❖ So many bookstores. So many books.
❖ An article about Safe Sex! Hell yes! Even though lesbians don’t get AIDS because we’re God’s chosen people, this will be fun to read about in theory! “After all, aren’t we told that lesbians and priests are in the lowest risk category?” lol people thought priests weren’t constantly having gay sex. Simpler times.
❖ An interview with Alison Bechdel! She’s so swoony.
❖ Articles about soap operas, speculation about Hilary Clinton, gossip about Madonna and Sandra Bernhard. And what about Whoopi Goldberg? And that Ellen lady? She’s been on Arsenio Hall acting all cagy about the men in her life. A list of women we wish were gay, including Joan Jett? Didn’t she sing Crimson and Clover without changing pronouns like waaaaay back in the 80s
❖ Music reviews: Sweet Honey in the Rock and Alix Dobkin! We’re almost to the ads…
❖ Labrys jewelry, freedom rings. C’mon, let’s get to the good stuff!
❖ Here we go! Classified ads– 30 words for $20! Queer personal finance, we buy used computers, a lesbian resort in New Hampshire.
❖ Personals at last! Is my woman here?
❖ Hey there’s that woman who has an ad every month expressing her ‘complete and sincere respect for’ women in military, fire, police, private security, corrections’. A gay male ad would say ‘Uniform fetish’ but apparently we’re too delicate.
❖ Bisexual boston babe ‘femalely handsome’ looking for someone who’s ‘nice to look at, not a feminist and not a bitch’. Next!
❖ Lonesome in Wyoming, Bisexual Bodybuilder, Softball is over, time to find someone warm for winter, Reubenesque Arkansas Buddhist…
❖ Find a girl who sounds promising– seems interesting and is not too far away. Spend a day or so composing a letter with a pen and piece of paper introducing yourself. If you don’t have a photo of yourself that you like, have a friend take one. Then finish the roll of film and bring it to the Fotomat and wait a day or so and then pick up the prints and hope you like one of them. Choose one anyway, and put it in the envelope with your letter.
❖ Get a stamp, hang it on the mailbox, never hear anything ever again.
❖ One month later, go to your mailbox and see that your copy of Deneuve has arrived.

I don't remember where I got most of the beads or the fossilized seashell. One of the beads is the only survivor of a bag of beads I bought at a little curio store near Rockaway Beach, Oregon USA in 2007. I occasionally add a bead I find, or take one out to use for something, but mostly I just keep them.
The silver pendant was given to me in 2006 at a very boring christian expo, by a man running a jewelry booth, once I had told him my dad had just died. I remember very distinctly that he was selling them for more than $50, and was completely insistent that I (one of the only children there) should have it for free.
The dollar bill origami was given to me by one of my older brother's friends around 2008.
In 2009, my entire family and all my friends completely forgot my 16th birthday. I walked downtown and bought myself that ring at a store going out of business. The proprietor was there. He said he and his wife were retiring. He recognized me and told me a story from when I was about four, and sitting backstage at a play my mother was the costumer for, and how I was reading a chapter book and read it out loud to him and his wife when they asked if I was looking at the pictures.
The pin is from my most favorite trail crew season in 2011.
The three rings I almost never wear, but I just think they look neat.
I found the mystery, wire-wrapped object by a river several years ago.
The rocks with flecks of iron pyrite I picked up while wading in a river with my best friend, just a few weeks ago.
The sunflower button has been with me for at least five years, waiting for the perfect time to replace a missing button.
kindnesses, moments of joy surrounded by sadness, things I've found and things I was given. Not a single one bigger than a quarter, and I can easily hold all of them in my cupped hands. Are humans meant to pick up tiny things to keep? Like when I was small, I pick up little treasures and put them in my pockets and sometimes, I keep them.
Outside, by the house, I have a turtle shell I found in someone else's horse pasture. Most of my jewelry, I never wear, but I hang the pieces against a wall painted goldeny-yellow and am pleased to have them. There's no great revelation of human nature here, unless one, slightly sophisticated ape hoarding a handful of shiny beads and tiny keepsakes is world-shattering for someone.
Welcome to my room. Look at my treasures!

Where to Buy Gold Jewelry
1) A brief history of Gold.
a. Gold jewelry has been valued by humans since before ancient Egypt rose to greatness. Since gold appears in nature in its native state at a high level of purity, early humans would find gold nuggets in streams or in other deposits. Gold flakes have been found inside caves where prehistoric drawings adorn the walls suggesting that early humans discovered gold and valued it for its aesthetic qualities. Gold is a very noble metal. This means that gold can easily be formed by striking it into shapes or plates which then can be carved or turned into coins. Alexander the Great is said to have funded his campaigns using gold that his troops mined along the way in his travels. Ancient Egyptians covered sarcophagus and other items with gold to praise their gods and pharaohs. Fast forward to modern times and we are using gold not only for jewelry and coins, but for electronics, surgical implants, and other uses which exploit gold’s heat and electrical conductivity.
2) Gold Sources, Purity and Measurement.
a. Gold can be found in almost every country throughout the world. Gold is either found in alluvial deposits which are caused by rivers exposing gold deposits or in mining operations where large quantities of earth are moved and processed to extract gold. Gold naturally occurs in purities of 85% or higher. Gold is heavier than other minerals found around it and therefore it is easy to separate using water sluices. Once gold is separated from the minerals which surround it, it is refined using either a chemical method in which gold is dissolved in a solution called aqua regia, which is a strong acid solution, or it is melted along with mercury which causes impurities to concentrate in a layer of the melted gold which is called slag. Once the slag is removed, gold has been refined to 100% pure.
b. Gold is a very easy metal to alloy. This means it can be combined with other metals to achieve production goals which would make a harder metal or a metal of a different color. For example gold is alloyed with copper to make rose gold and with tin and silver to make white gold. Aside from this gold is also dissolved in solutions to create electroplating applications. These applications allow gold to be plated onto wire and for other industrial purposes.
c. In jewelry gold purity is defined by Karat. 24 karat gold is defined as gold which has 24 out of 24 parts made of pure gold. Pure gold is very soft and seldom used for jewelry as it is easy to bend and wears and scratches way too quickly. 18 karat gold, or gold which has 18 parts pure gold and 6 parts of something else, is commonly used to make high end jewelry. 14 karat gold or gold that is 14 parts pure gold and 10 parts something else, is also used to make jewelry as it is harder and more durable than 18 karat gold. Gold is measured in Troy Ounces. The old question what weighs more an ounce of gold or an ounce of feathers is actually a trick question. Gold is measured in Troy Ounces and feathers in Avoirdupois Ounces. There are 31.1 grams in a Troy Ounce and 28.35 grams in an avoirdupois ounce. Therefore the Troy ounce, the ounce of gold, is heavier than the avoirdupois ounce. Conversely, the troy pound is lighter than the avoirdupois pound. Thus making the pound of feathers heavier than the pound of gold.
3) Gold Stamps and Identification.
a. The Federal Trade Commission regulates the trade of precious metals and directs manufacturers on how to stamp and identify gold. In the United States an item must be 10 Karat Gold or higher karat to be called gold. Also, gold that is plated must be plated with 10 karat gold or better to be called gold plated. Gold jewelry fineness is identified by a stamp which tell you how pure the gold used in the piece is. 417 or 41.7 percent gold is 10 karat gold. 585 or 58.5 percent gold is 14 karat gold. 750 or 75 percent gold is 18 karat gold. Normally a piece is either stamped with a three digit number or the actual karat content, such as 14K. Jewelry which is gold plated or gold filled is stamped with a GP or GF after the karat of the gold. For example 18 KGF, denoting that this piece of jewelry was manufactured using 18 Karat Gold Filled. Gold filled jewelry is jewelry manufactured using a solid layer of gold which has been mechanically bonded to a base material such as silver or a base metal like pewter. Gold plated (GP) is when an electroplating method is used to deposit a very thin layer of gold onto silver or a base metal.
