24 December 1959 Jet Magazine reports the passing of: Jewel Nathanial Allison Murray & Polemarch Charles F. Davis 🖤💛 #JewelNathanialAllisonMurray: #Founderof Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., & noted educator in #WashingtonDC His father, Daniel, was one of the first #BlackLibrarians for the #LibraryOfCongress & considered a leading authority on the Black American experience. His mother, Anna, was an educator and helped secure the first federal funding for kindergarten within the United States. #JewelMurray grew up surrounded by a small but PROSPEROUS #BlackUpperClass that people called Washington’s “#ColoredAristocracy.” His involvement with #AlphaPhiAlpha continued throughout his life. He, along with founding #JewelRobertHaroldOgle chartered #MuLambda/#DCAlphas ❤️♦️#PolemarchCharlesDavis was an #BlackAttorney who began practicing in #NorthOmaha in the 1920s, and sustained his practice through the 1930s.
