24 December 1959 Jet Magazine reports the passing of: Jewel Nathanial Allison Murray & Polemarch Charles F. Davis 🖤💛 #JewelNathanialAllisonMurray: #Founderof Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., & noted educator in #WashingtonDC His father, Daniel, was one of the first #BlackLibrarians for the #LibraryOfCongress & considered a leading authority on the Black American experience. His mother, Anna, was an educator and helped secure the first federal funding for kindergarten within the United States. #JewelMurray grew up surrounded by a small but PROSPEROUS #BlackUpperClass that people called Washington’s “#ColoredAristocracy.” His involvement with #AlphaPhiAlpha continued throughout his life. He, along with founding #JewelRobertHaroldOgle chartered #MuLambda/#DCAlphas ❤️♦️#PolemarchCharlesDavis was an #BlackAttorney who began practicing in #NorthOmaha in the 1920s, and sustained his practice through the 1930s. On April 18, 1995 he called me at Brickhouse (The first black owned nightclub in Bricktown) and asked me to follow him to drop his convertible Benz off for repairs and take him back to work. The plan was for the car to stay there overnight and for me to chill at his crib and I'd drive him to work the next morning. I always enjoyed visiting him at work and kicking back with his co-workers and sharing a laugh. Fate would have it that he decided to pick his car up after getting a quote for it's repair that was above what he had budgeted and I did not end up taking him to work the next morning. If I had, I would have walked inside and sat at his desk and laughed my ass off with him before he had to get busy at work. On April 19, 1995 Derwin Miller went to work at the Social Security Office on the first floor of the Alfred P. Murrough building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I wasn't there...he isn't here...and the what if's still haunt me. I LOVE YOU FRAT!

#FallenTiger: Remembering & Honoring Coach Kevin Roman Delta Sigma Grambling State University "The kids would call him Coach Roman, but he was more than a coach, He took care of the kids; that was during his job and after." #KevinRoman put his student athletes first, friends said - but he was also a regular church-goer and social butterfly. People close to #CoachRoman said they knew something was wrong when he didn't show up for a football game. "He made sure you kept your head up, but there wasn't a practice where he's not yelling at you to get better." He was almost like a dad to me," said Danielle Gomez, 19. The #ClearLake grad met #CoachKevinRoman through school athletics, after he convinced her to jump ship and take up softball after years of cheerleading. Desiree Scott, 22, described her former coach as an expert motivator. The sound of blaring music poured out into the parking lot as #AlphaPhiAlphaFraternity brothers, long-time friends and student athletes packed #TailgatorsBar to the gills, spilling  into the parking lot for two memorial balloon releases.
