Dark Cybertron Chapter 2: Going from Zero to Antichrist Real Quick

Bumblebee and his camp buddies are trying to figure out what to do with the Titan who just popped out of the ground like a prairie dog, as the sky looks like a Lisa Frank notebook thanks to the portal to the Dead Universe. It’s honestly very nice, we should should get more pretty apocalypses like this.

Bumblebee starts throwing out orders at everyone, much to Slag’s chagrin. When Slag brings up the point that they probably can’t do much of anything to a guy roughly a hundred times bigger than they are, Bumblebee tells him to shut up and do as he’s told.

Yeah, I had about the same reaction, Slag.

So the Dinobots do their thing. Swoop, who I think is the only guy here who can fly, goes up to see what the Titan’s doing. It’s not much, other than looking really upset. Oh no, what if he’s afraid of heights? Poor guy.

Even if the Titan isn’t moving, the mere presence of the thing is jamming signals, which is kind of an issue. Ironhide’s ready to shoot it in the foot, and Arcee will help, because she’s a team player now. Bumblebee has a minor crisis over whether this is the same Titan that told Starscream he was a prophesied son of a gun, but Prowl doesn’t seem to think that it is.

Prowl, who has been suffering from short-term memory lapses over the last several months or so because a bug-man was controlling his mind.

Yeah, let’s maybe take his opinion on the matter with a grain of salt, even if he is right.

Over at the Lost Light, Orion Pax is visiting Brainstorm’s workshop, where everyone’s favorite science man is admitting to having studied the Dead Universe’s effects on the living and interviewing people who had been to the area.

Man, I sure hope that guy signed a waiver, otherwise Brainstorm’s going to be in a spot of trouble.

Then we get a quick rundown of what the Dead Universe is: an omnicognizant parallel universe that functions on fundamental principles that differ from our own and wants you to die. So, obviously not a place you would want to go to. Still, we gotta, because that’s where the plot is the Dead Universe is gonna vore Cybertron if we don’t.

Brainstorm agrees to cook something up to make the trip through the Gorlam Prime portal easier.

Back on Cybertron, the Titan looms in the distance as we check in on an oddly pristine-looking Iacon. Rattrap tells Starscream to come out of the closet, because the Titan still hasn’t moved and doesn’t seem like it’s going to anytime soon. Starscream does come out, but it’s with his arms full of weapons of Autobot design that he appropriated from the ruins of Kimia, because he doesn’t trust that Titan to not start some shit. Rattrap suggests that they maybe get a second opinion before they start murdering people for standing in a barren field.

Back on the Lost Light, there’s a little shindig going down at Swerve’s, everyone staring down the table where Optimus, Rodimus, and Ultra Magnus are seated. Swerve takes the opportunity to do what everyone else is probably really wanting to, and snaps a few photos of them for his scrapbook. As soon as he’s done, we get to the Emotions portion of our issue.

Rodimus is letting himself be vulnerable in front of the man he idolizes, and I think that’s very brave of him.

Nobody’s feeling super great about the situation they’ve been presented with, but there isn’t a lot that can be done about it now. Just gotta work with what they got. Rodimus asks Optimus how he feels about Starscream being elected leader of Cybertron.

But I thought that freedom was the right of all sentient beings? You know, like the freedom of choice in our government officials, even if they aren’t the best option we could possibly have, because at least they’re better than the guy who had bombs planted in people’s heads for crowd control purposes? Are you saying that it only counted when the concept of freedom could be manipulated so you could go kick Megatron’s ass, and that actual freedom of choice doesn’t jive with your personal sensibilities as much as you’d like everyone to think it does? No wonder you’re going to try to overthrow the entire Earth’s government system to get humanity annexed into Cybertron’s bullshit in a few years’ time.

But perhaps this Starscream thing is actually the work of Megatron! What will Orion do then?

…I mean, do I even have to say it?

And I thought we’d already figured out what to do with Megatron back in “Chaos Theory”, where you spent three issues waffling on the subject until the man himself told you to execute him, because even he was sick of your crisis of self. The only reason you didn’t get to act on it was because Megatron disappeared after Vector Sigma blew up and then you fucked off into space without even bothering to check if he was actually dead.

But enough of Orion promising to kill/kiss Megatron, it’s time to see what Brainstorm’s cooked up. It’s not much, but to be fair, he’s only had a few hours to pull something together- our ship’s genius has made a few forcefield generators, using nothing more than some forcefield generators and juice he squeezed out of a bug. Science truly is amazing.

And I bet Trailcutter hates this invention too, for multiple reasons this time!

Cyclonus, who is looking especially purple today, agrees to join the excursion to the Dead Universe, even though it’s pretty clear he really, really doesn’t want to. Hardhead seems in better spirits than our resident space jet, though maybe that’s just bravado macho-man bullshitting on his part.

With our team put together, it’s time to jump out of the spaceship and into a place that quite literally wants them dead. But first Rodimus has a little chat with Ultra Magnus about his feelings. A lot of sharing this issue.

Magnus doesn’t feel fit to be in charge while Rodimus goes off to save the day and maybe die, because he doesn’t have that special something that makes a leader a leader. Charisma? The ability to think on your feet? The ability to see people as people and not numbers? Not having people know you’re actually a much smaller man running around in an Ultra Magnus suit? Whatever it is, Rodimus seems to think that it’s trumped by a mysterious something in his hand, and that Magnus will do just fine.

While Team -Imus goes into the murder reality, Magnus and the Lost Light will be going off to find Jhiaxus, because they need something to do while our protagonist and his absentee father go on their own adventure.

Back on Cybertron, Starscream’s visiting prison, and wants to talk to a very good boy without the guards overhearing. Jazz makes a very vague threat about what will happen if any harm comes to the prisoner, then steps away.

Let’s talk about how to sell toys for a second.

This issue of “Dark Cybertron” had a cover featuring Scoop, the very good boy I’ve mentioned before, because it was paired off with his Generations toy. We know from reading RID that Scoop is the leader of a group called the Construction Patrol, and he likes to help simply for the sake of helping. Sounds like a nice, if generic, character. How is this issue going to introduce people to him? Will he bust out of prison to save the day? Fight evil through heroic sacrifice? Do anything besides talk?

No, he’s going to tell Starscream he’s a herald of death that was foretold in the robot bible.

Yeah, that’ll move some fucking product!

This isn’t even the most batshit thing Scoop’s going to pull in this event, but it is what they decided to put in the issue that “features” him.

Over with Shockwave, we’re treated to some renewed friendships, as Nova Prime and Galvatron reveal that they don’t hate each other after all, but have a mutual respect based in subjugating those weaker than them.

I’m guessing this is a contrast to their previous relationship dynamic in older publications, but I’m not going back to comb through the likes of Heart of Darkness to check, because it really doesn’t matter.

There’s a bit of a snag in Shockwave’s plan to bring Galvatron and Nova Prime back to the Not-Dead Universe, as the space bridge in the Titan burnt up when it got there. Gee, that sucks. I guess all those “Prelude” issues about getting the Titan from Gorlam Prime were sort of a waste of time, weren’t they? Love it when I’m told I wasted my time reading motherfucking Ramondelli issues.

Speaking of Ramondelli, it’s Dead Universe time.

So we’re here in the Dead Universe, and it’s looking pretty wild and crazy, though the characters are likely thinking this for a completely different reason than we are as readers. It turns out, the Dead Universe… is dying.

Also, Cyclonus has disappeared, not that anyone actually gives a shit, because they’re too busy dealing with the giant space leeches that just showed the hell up. Dang, why’s that happening?

…That only happens as a form of population control, or if the young in question are sickly and have a low chance of survival, not just because the mama rabbit got a bit peckish between lunch and dinner, you stupid fucking robot.

Half of this writing team won awards a couple years after this was published, I want you to remember that.

They fight the cyberwraiths for a bit, things look like they’re getting dicey, then suddenly they fuck off as Cyclonus shows up, probably fresh off the end of a goddamned panic attack because he’s back in the Dead Universe. Then he proceeds to vomit up some black energon. That’s a fun thing, glad you made me look at that.

Rodimus is concerned that one of their team members has got the Hollywood Tuberculosis cough, but Cyclonus doesn’t want his fucking pity. The fellas decide it’s time to get a move on, seeing as they’ve been here a grand total of 20 seconds and been attacked, so they need to get this over with ASAP.

As Team -Imus flies off in a ship I don’t remember them bringing along, someone decides that they’re going to stick their finger in that puddle of vomit.

Nightbeat you fucking idiot, there aren’t any sinks in the Dead Universe! Now your hand’s gonna be all gross for the entirety of this event! He’s not even analyzing it, it’s just on his hand! Why is Nightbeat having zero concept of personal hygiene a running theme in the things I read? Fuck!

You may be wondering what Nightbeat’s doing in the Dead Universe, or even where he’s been for a good chunk of IDW. We’ve seen him in flashbacks from before the war, but not during or after, least not within anything I’ve covered. So, what’s be been up to?

Fuck you, you’ll have to wait for a later issue to be told what Phase One bullshit you’ll have had to read to understand why this dumbass is here.

Back on Cybertron, Prowl is telling Bumblebee that he sucks because he’s not acting. I’m not exactly sure what he expects Bumblebee to do about the Titan who’s just standing there. It’s not like issuing a loitering ticket is going to do anything. Then the Decepticons attack them, among their ranks being the scariest fucking Ravage I’ve ever seen.

Why do you look like that? Rojo’s supposed to have the cutesy style on this team, why the fuck did he turn the kitty cat into one of the terror dogs from Ghostbusters?

Anyway, that’s the end of the issue. Sure hope you’re invested enough in trying to figure out what the fuck Nightbeat’s deal is to snag Robots in Disguise #23.

Steve turned on the bed, enjoying the softness against his skin. He had just blinked his eyes open to the ceiling, only a little awake as the line between what was real and what he was dreaming about started to draw itself in his mind.

He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to force his mind to come to its previous image – strong, skilled hands giving him a backrub as a silky voice whispered something in his ear about promises, love and... horses?

The realization of the dream’s weirdness – horses, really, why would they be talking about horses – jolted him back rudely to reality, and Steve turned again, halfway aware that he was definitely going to fall from the bed if he kept moving like that, when it hit him: Wait a minute, I sleep on a futon .

He sat up, suddenly wide awake, and the room erupted into light.

“Good morning,” said a robotic voice, as Steve took in the obscenely luxurious room around him. Automatic curtains opened on the large windows, letting strong sunlight in and showing off a view of a bright blue sky. “It’s 9 a.m.”

Steve blinked, his breath uneven as he adjusted to the view around him. Right, he thought. He was not at home. In fact, he was miles away from his old, rumpled futon.

He looked at the bed. It was actually impressive it took him so long to remember this wasn’t his apartment, because the huge, fluffy mattress was nothing like where he was used to sleeping. Against its obscene size, Steve felt even smaller than usual, and somehow more naked in the stark white light.

Oh, yeah, and there was that, too: he was naked as the day he was born.

That in itself wasn’t a surprise, though. Now that his brain was catching up to the new reality of being awake, he could remember a few things: the surreal feeling of flying in a private jet, the anxiety bubbling in his stomach as he continuously checked his phone, the taste of champagne the flight waitress (a flight waitress!) kept offering him.

He remembered feeling dizzy and less nervous when they landed, and then the night that followed was a blur of touches and whispers and hungry, desperate kisses. His thighs burned when he shifted and he remembered the same hands he had been dreaming about gripping them strongly, lifting him up, carrying him clumsily across the room in a hurry to get to the bed while whispers of Fuck, I missed you were pressed against his mouth.

Steve’s cheeks warmed at the memory. Yeah, he thought. He knew very well where he was.

“The weather in Malibu is 69 degrees with 53% humidity,” the voice—JARVIS, Steve remembered—continued, unbothered by his silence. “The surf conditions are not recommended for beginners, with chest-to-shoulder high lines. High tide will be at—”

“Uh,” Steve interrupted, because he wasn’t very interested in the weather forecast. “Good morning?”

There was a millisecond of silence before JARVIS replied: “Good morning, Mr. Rogers.”

Steve smiled at the ceiling, even though he wasn’t sure if JARVIS cared about gestures like that.

Then he took a deep breath, looking around the room. Although the blatant wealth of everything made him uncomfortable, a part of him wanted to take in everything in minutious detail. He had never been here before, and the knowledge that it was where Tony slept when he wasn’t in New York was enough to make it fascinating.

If Steve was honest, he hadn’t taken Tony seriously, the first few times he'd offered to fly him over. He knew Tony wouldn’t lie , but the idea just seemed too surreal, for Tony to waste so much time and money to hire a private jet to fly in someone who had never even boarded a plane before.

Of course, in Tony’s world, time and money were seemingly never-ending resources. It was such a different world from the one Steve inhabited that, from the beginning, the idea of their relationship seemed like an offensive joke. When Steve couldn’t deny his feelings anymore, he had almost wanted to kick himself for falling into such an obviously doomed path. It was strange enough that Tony wanted to sleep with him – to imagine that he’d want something more was just laughable.

So when things got more steady, Steve started waiting for the other shoe to drop. Except it didn’t. The only thing that happened was that Tony got more insistent about flying him over to his Malibu mansion, and one night, they were stuffing themselves with pizza on Steve’s kitchen and the inebriant combination of grease and cheese and Tony made Steve bold enough to reply You know what? Fine.

Tony’s head snapped towards him so fast Steve feared he might have hurt his neck. His eyes were so wide that for a moment Steve was scared he fucked up somehow, by replying seriously to something that was actually just a very long joke, until Tony’s face broke in a blinding, huge grin and Steve’s heart felt too big for his chest.

And now there he was, in Tony’s bed.

Steve scrambled for a sheet to wrap around himself, unsure of where his clothes had fallen on the room. Even though no one was there, he was feeling a little exposed, and he wished Tony would show up soon.

He laid back with his head over the big pillow, as soft as a cloud. Where was Tony, anyway?

“Uh,” Steve tried, unsure of how to do this. “JARVIS?”

“How can I help you, sir?” The robotic voice replied immediately. Steve jumped a little.

“Uh,” he said again. It still seemed weird to ask a computer for instructions, but he knew he had to get used to Tony’s life if he wanted to be a part of it. “Is Tony in the bathroom?”

“No, sir.”

“Oh.” Steve frowned. That was strange. He couldn’t think of where else would Tony go, if he still intended to come back to bed. And… he had to, right? Steve had just arrived last night. Tony wouldn’t just wake up and leave him alone.

Except… well, that was exactly what Tony used to do, wasn’t it? It was his well-known M.O. after one-night stands. Steve knew that for a fact, because he heard it from Tony himself (and, okay, maybe at a few tabloids too, once he accepted he was falling for a celebrity and he wanted to get at least a glimpse of Tony’s world). Tony would wake up, get dressed and go to his lab as if it were a regular day, and the person he had hooked up with would be left to the reliable but cold professionalism of JARVIS and Ms. Potts, Tony’s assistant.

It was one hell of a douche move, in Steve’s opinion, but at least Tony was aware of this, if the guilty look on his face when he told Steve was anything to go by. And it was in the past, Steve knew, an action belonging to a version of Tony that was a lot more careless, irresponsible, sometimes cruel, and, from what Steve gathered, more than a little unhappy.

Steve ran a hand through his hair, his stomach clutching in little knots of anxiety he wished he could stop from forming. It wasn’t fair to imagine Tony would do that to him. People changed, and that didn’t jive with the Tony he knew – who, yes, could be a little aloof at times, but was also endlessly caring, generous, and tender with such a dedicated focus it made Steve’s head spin.

So Steve turned and tried to go back to sleep. But worry kept crawling up the back of his head with incessant thoughts – what if Tony wasn’t coming back to bed, after all? What if he expected Steve to leave instead? Yes, he had offered countless times to fly Steve over, but what if he had changed his mind? Maybe just seeing Steve walking inside his mansion was enough to make Tony realize he had made a huge mistake.

Steve stirred, annoyed with himself. “JARVIS,” he said finally. “Do you know when Tony is coming back?”

There was a pause, which already threw Steve for a loop. He had noticed JARVIS’ replies were usually instantaneous. “I’m afraid I can’t know for certain, sir.”

Steve’s eyes widened as he turned to look at the ceiling. “Do you know where he is?” He asked, almost afraid of the answer.

“Yes.” JARVIS’ reply was immediate, which eased a little of Steve’s worry. Tony could be trying to get rid of him, but at least he wasn’t missing .

He waited for a moment to see if JARVIS was going to add anything, but, as he didn’t, Steve decided to cut through the chase: “And where is that?”

The longest pause so far preceded JARVIS’ words: “I apologize, but I can’t say, sir.”

Steve sat up. “What?” He forced himself to draw in a sharp breath. “Why not?”

“Mr. Stark does not wish to be disturbed.”

Steve felt as if a bucket of cold, freezing water had just been dropped over his head. What the hell did that mean? Tony flew him in, slept with him, and now had vanished without a word of warning, apparently not even wanting Steve to know where he was? Nothing made sense, and Steve’s stomach clenched painfully, his breath shortening.

He needed his inhaler. He stood up, walking across the bedroom to find the place where Tony had removed his pants. If Steve closed his eyes, he could still feel Tony’s hurried, clumsy yanking, as if any shred of fabric covering Steve’s body was a personal offense against him.

After a few puffs, Steve looked through the windows again, and that was when he got it.

He was being dismissed.

That was Tony’s M.O. He wasn’t kicking Steve out, and he wouldn’t, but he had left, and he most certainly didn’t plan to come back until Steve had realized what was going on and disappeared.

Steve’s face burned. He blinked rapidly, trying to grasp at straws to convince himself that it wasn’t like that, but the more he thought about it, the more it made sense. Tony had only offered to fly him over. He hadn’t said anything about wanting Steve to stay.

Steve forced himself to take a steadying breath. His eyes were starting to burn, too, but he wasn’t going to humiliate himself like that. He could do this later, in whatever cheap motel in Malibu he could actually afford to spend the night in while he made calls to attempt to figure out how he was going to be able to pay for a plane ticket back to New York.

Unless—Steve shivered at the thought that Tony’s jet could be right outside, waiting for him . That was—God, that was probably true, which made everything worse. Steve thought he maybe would have preferred to go into debt with the plane ticket.

He hurried to get himself dressed. His clothes were all rumpled and wrinkled, and, when he finished, the stark contrast he could feel between himself and the filthily rich environment around him was too much. He needed to get out of there, now.

“Sir?” JARVIS said, when Steve started walking towards the door. “Where are you going?”

“Aren’t you supposed to say there’s a car waiting for me outside?” Steve replied with barely controlled hostility. His hands were shaking like crazy as he picked up his phone and stuck it inside his front pocket.

“I have received no instructions of that nature,” JARVIS responded. As Steve walked towards the door, he added, “Wait, sir.”

Steve stopped, taken aback by how weirdly anxious the A.I. sounded. “Look, I don’t want any of my clothes ironed or anything,” he said. “I just need to—”

“Sir, I believe you might be mistakenly thinking a dismissal protocol is in place, but I assure you, it is not,” JARVIS said.

That stopped Steve on his tracks. JARVIS wouldn’t lie, right? What reason would he have to? “Then what is happening?”

There was a pause where Steve had the distinct mental image of someone gritting their teeth. “I’m afraid I cannot say, exactly,” JARVIS answered. “But if I may be so bold as to give a suggestion, sir, the mansion’s kitchen is quite lovely.”

Steve tilted his head at the ceiling. “What?”

“It is a carefully designed and decorated space,” JARVIS insisted. “That is most certainly worth the visit.”

Steve frowned. Was that the A.I.’s attempt to cheer him up? “Thanks, but I think I should probably—”

“Mr. Rogers,” JARVIS interrupted, which made Steve’s eyebrows shoot up. “I strongly recommend you visit the kitchen before you do anything else.”

“Uh,” Steve said, more than a little suspicious. “Okay?”

“Thank you, sir,” JARVIS said, and Steve detected a strong relief in his words. “It’s the first door on the right, down the stairs.”

Steve followed his directions, a little wary, but mostly curious. There on the right, as JARVIS instructed, was a door to the living room, which was connected straight into the kitchen.

He wasn’t sure of what he was expecting when he walked inside, but a strong, delicious smell of food was definitely not it.

The smell took over Steve’s nostrils as soon as he stepped inside. It smelled sweet and sugary, like – pancakes?

And right behind the kitchen island was –

“Tony?”

Tony turned towards him as fast as if he’d seen a ghost. His hair was tousled and there was a smudge of something brown on his cheek.

“Oh, hi,” he said, staring at Steve as if he was half expecting him to grow a second head. His clothes, a tank top and sweatpants, also seemed mussed, but it was hard to see under the apron he had on. “You’re here.”

Steve was a little lost on the contrast between the apron and the tank top that showed off Tony’s well-toned, tanned arms. “Hi,” he said finally.

Tony seemed to take a few moments to digest that, and then something behind him started beeping, and he turned quickly to remove what Steve could distinguish as a pan from the fire. Tony threw it loudly over the counter, before turning to Steve again.

“You’re here. Okay.” Tony breathed, his big brown eyes fixated on Steve with a blank expression. “You’re… not supposed to be here.”

The words stung, and Steve flinched, his previous embarrassment returning with full strength, after being momentarily held back by the weirdness of everything. “I know,” he said, and hated how small his voice sounded. “I’m going to—”

“No,” Tony said, walking to him in a sudden hurry. He held onto Steve’s wrist, his touch and eyes acting like a weird neutralizer for Steve’s anger. He looked shocked at Steve’s suggestion. “I don’t want you to go. I--I mean, what? Of course I don’t want you to go. Why, why would you think that?”

Steve just stared at him. “JARVIS said he couldn’t tell me where you went.”

“Right,” Tony said. His free hand went to his hair, going through brown locks sprinkled with silver that Steve knew were very, very soft. “So you decided to—”

“Sir, if I may,” JARVIS interjected. The A.I.’s voice sounded apprehensive, but not nearly as anxious as before. “I believe Mr. Rogers assumed he was receiving the ‘good morning, Cinderella’ protocol.”

Tony shut his eyes. “Right. The—Jesus, I actually gave it that name.” He drew in a sharp breath and opened his eyes again. “Okay, I can explain.”

Steve waited in silence, and then Tony sighed, looking away.

“Okay, okay, so— listen, sometimes I forget JARVIS is—well, not a person, but an A.I. literally programmed to not be able to disobey an order from me, okay?” His free hand gestured frantically as if that would somehow make it easier for Steve to understand. “So when I went down to the kitchen, I was just thinking about how I was already late for what I planned, and I didn’t know when you were waking up, and I wanted it to be a surprise and my personal best time for making an omelet is still, like, forty-five minutes. So”--he inhaled--“I told him not to tell you what I was doing. And it didn’t occur to me that he wouldn’t be able to evaluate the situation and just tell you when it became obvious you were thinking something really bad and it would be worse to let you go, even if it ruined the surprise.”

Steve stared at him, taking in the whirlwind of words. “What was it?”

“What?”

“That you had planned,” Steve replied. “You didn’t say.”

“Oh,” Tony said. He was still looking at Steve as if he was a bomb that might go off at any second, and he didn’t know for sure which wire to cut. “I. Hmm. I made you breakfast.”

It was only then that Steve remembered to look at the oven behind the island. Next to the pancakes Tony had rudely thrown over the counter, there was a tray with a jar of what seemed to be orange juice, two glasses, and a plate with generous slices of bacon .

He looked back at Tony, taking in his messy state – the brown smudge on his cheek, his tousled hair, the dirty apron. Warmth bubbled inside Steve like a pleasant bath. He felt a strong urge to touch him.

“You take forty-five minutes to make an omelet?” he asked instead.

Tony raised his eyebrows, as if he couldn’t quite gauge what the question meant. “That’s what you got from—I mean, yeah.” He paused, his eyes searching Steve’s face as he analyzed his reaction. Steve kind of wanted to hug him. “Rhodey says it tastes great, though. So it’s worth it. Probably.”

Steve smiled. “Can I try it?”

Tony blinked for a while, as if the question was an absolutely wonderful suggestion he hadn’t thought of until this minute, and then opened a shy, bright grin that made Steve a little dizzy. “Yeah? I mean, I—I made it for you.”

He turned before Steve could reply, and they walked around the island, getting to the counter next to the oven where Tony had placed the tray.

Only then it hit Steve—the tray.

“Were you going to…” His cheeks warmed as he eyed the carefully placed silvery next to the plates. “Uh. Were we going to eat it in bed?”

Tony stared at him seeming almost wary, as if he was choosing his next words as carefully as he set up the tray. “Yeah.” Then he sighed and gesticulated aimlessly. “That was the, uh—idea. Not the best execution, I’ll admit it.”

“It looks good,” Steve said, trying to sound as reassuring as possible. Then he eyed the pancakes a little regretfully. “I, uh. I can’t eat gluten, though.”

“I know,” Tony said immediately. “I know that. I remembered that.” He raised his finger at Steve as if he was defending himself from a grave accusation. “Every single one of these pancakes are completely, 100% gluten free. Pinky-swear, honestly, I had JARVIS check through all the ingredients. Right, JARVIS?”

“Absolutely, sir.”

“Thank you! Right,” he repeated, pointing at Steve as if he had been arguing against it. Then, as Steve didn’t say anything, he seemed to lose a little bit of steam. “Am I freaking you out? I—” He took a sharp breath, looking around, before finally looking back at Steve again. “Okay, full disclosure, I’m not very used to this. I… didn’t sleep with many people since I disabled that stupid Cinderella protocol. And I never made anyone breakfast before. Also, since we’re laying it all out, I’m not usually awake at this time either, unless I’m still awake, and—”

“Tony,” Steve interrupted, laying his hands on his shoulders. “It’s okay.”

Tony seemed to relax the slightest amount, but he was still staring at Steve with those big, worried and – Steve was beginning to realize – irresistible Bambi eyes. “You thought I was kicking you out. That seems like the opposite of okay.”

“Only because I thought you’d regret flying me in.”

“I thought you’d regret coming,” Tony said, and Steve, unable to help himself anymore, leaned his head upwards and pressed a kiss to his mouth.

“I didn’t,” he whispered against Tony lips, humming with approval when Tony’s hands held his waist, pulling his body closer. “Last night was great. The pancakes look great. You—” Steve’s breath catches in his throat, the words getting harder to push off. “You’re pretty great.”

“Thanks,” Tony said to Steve’s lips, right before he leaned forward to capture them again. This kiss was longer than the last, and the only reason Steve stopped was because he could taste a little sweetness in Tony’s mouth that he knew came from testing his food multiple times until it felt good enough.

“I really like you,” Steve burst out when they broke apart, because it was hanging from the tip of his tongue and he couldn’t hold it in. Tony blinked at him, wordless, and Steve decided not to wait for an answer. “And I want my pancakes.”

“Okay,” Tony said, seeming a little flabbergasted. His smile began to grow a moment afterwards, as if he was still processing what was happening. “Okay, yeah, anything you want.”

“And I bet I can lower your omelet time to thirty minutes.”

“I bet you can,” Tony agreed, and, as he came closer, brushing their noses, Steve decided that, before he got to taste the pancakes, one more taste of Tony’s mouth wouldn’t hurt.

Jells jive or Karkarook karaoke?

3 June 2020 - alphabetical post #11

Well, neither, as it happens. In order to keep my alphabetical sequence going, it was necessary to skip the Christmas Day parkruns on offer and run instead on Saturday 28 December, then again on New Year’s Day. Although J and K parkruns are rare, I was fortunate that Jells Park and Karkarook Park were both within relatively easy driving distance from home.

That was the good news. The bad news was that the side effects from my chemotherapy were getting worse and worse and it was getting harder and harder to get out for a run. So after running reasonably well at Inverloch, my training stopped altogether and my only exercise became my parkruns.

And now trying to write a blog using the letters J and K is no joke at all. I am keen to make it work, but by jingo, there are just not many useful words. It’s a jolly shame. But conveniently, there is a jumble of aptly named musicians. On our journey to Jells Park in our faithful jalopy, we listened to a playlist including songs by Joe Jackson and JJ Cale, with a late injection of Joan Jett and Janis Joplin to jazz things up a bit.

We joined a jovial jam of runners and walkers at the start. On jerky legs, I started at a jog, conscious not to jeopardise my health if possible. I was jealous of the fit young jocks getting a jump on the field and racing out ahead. My patience ran out at halfway and I put on the jets (well, sort of) and surged past prams, dogs and junior runners to finish in an unremarkable time of 26:09, my slowest ever parkrun to that date.

Four days later on New Year’s Day morning after a good kip (no big NYE celebrations for Candice and I), we grabbed our running kit and headed for the delightfully named Karkarook Park. This was a venue that had been kind to me in the past and I had received kudos for having the second highest age grading ever recorded there (curse you, Marlene Gourlay, no not really, just joking).

Still knackered from the chemo, I jogged all of this one. I kept myself in check. There was no kamikaze final kick over the final kilometre. I knew that any such foolishness would kill my chances to get up for the next parkrun. I would have been kidding myself to think I could knock out a fast 5k after nearly four months of treatment. Final time was 28:35, another personal worst and a far cry from my 18:08 run a bit over a year earlier, but I really didn’t care a jot about the time and was jubilant just to get the job done.

I was keen to have a kebab after the run, but I lacked the necessary knowledge of local kebab joints. We still had Jack Johnson, Jesus Jones and Janet Jackson left on our playlist, plus some rap from Kris Kross. Yes, it was a pretty kooky mix of tunes, but not particularly suitable for karaoke.

Reflections

@fit4forty recommended I journal out my feelings about my trip last week, to reflect, to process, and to have to go back to in the future. This is going to be very long...

The weeks leading up to this trip were hard; my life was full of doubt, mainly sparked from my disappointment in my MSW program (academically) and a lot of triggering from my internship. This program was supposed to change everything and while it has, the reality is, life is life and its not always perfect. I was also not receiving the necessary clinical support that is required, so the triggering feelings from my counseling sessions were heavy. On top of this, my source of distraction (Bobby) was also going through a lot and was distant, stressed, and left me so unsure of what the fuck I was doing. Noted, he should not have been a source of distraction, but he was. Walking away from this trip, that’s not what he is. I don’t know how I want to communicate with him about my hardships, but I will do so in a way that keeps him in the loop. The week before our trip I honestly was terrified he was going to bail on the trip. When I realized he wasn’t, my next fear was “what if we hate each other during this trip; what if he wants to sleep all day and I have to face compromise and I have to get angry; what if, what if, what if, what if...” I opted to just go into this trip with no expectations. If we weren’t jiving, I’d do my own thing and we’d meet up for the flight home.

I forgot the moment when I knew it wasn’t going to be like that at all...I think it was on our first flight when he positioned himself to let me sleep on him. The second flight we snuck into the bathroom for some fun and just cracked up at how small the bathroom was, but we had to join the mile high club. We got back to our seats and just laughed, played battleship, and bitched about how small the seats were. We stared out the window at all the islands and he kept jotting down where we were and where he wants to go. We land, starving, and honestly it took an hour+ to get our luggage and figure out the rental car situation. We didn’t know where to stand, it was super humid, but at no point were we exasperated or anything. He played music, we joked with the airport workers and just rolled with it. Every ounce of nervousness was gone and I knew this was going to be a different and good vibing week. How good, at that moment I didn’t know...I was expecting just a regular good time. I was not expecting it to be one of the most phenomenal weeks of my life.

We found a spot on the ocean in Isla Verde, had some cocktails, ceviche, salad, and sat in awe of the blue water in front of us. As we were walking from the car to the spot, he says, “this doesn’t feel weird at all...this feels like we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be.” Over lunch, I said, “I can’t believe we’re here”. I told him I’ll probably repeat this sentiment over and over again. We finished up and walked on the sand, both our feet touching those soft grains walking to the ocean. He grabs my hand (a pattern than was repeated constantly), the ocean on our feet, we kiss and he says, “let’s go, we have to get checked in, so we can get naked and then get in the ocean.” With big smiles we drove to Dorado, got a little lost, but never frustrated with each other. We laughed at my driving (men always get nervous with me behind the wheel) and he was in love with the island immediately. After ravishing each other, we ran downstairs, got some more cocktails and soaked in the views. I had to jump in the ocean and he followed suit. We were embracing each other, smiles from ear to ear. I could feel every bit of stress or doubt in who I am dissipate. I could feel myself leaning into whatever this is. We agreed that the next day we’d be up early to go to El Yunque and crashed early.

Tuesday we were up on time and hit the road to the rainforest. We were hungry, so we found this perfect Puerto Rican bakery. Standing in line, he put his hand on my back, and wrapped his arms around me. We looked at all the treats, ordered some lunch and then he proceeded to indulge a two of these delicious pastries. Then we were off! It was gorgeous. We had a plan to go to a waterfall, but I didn’t realize it was closed. No big deal, we found an alternative plan. We stopped to soak in the views en route to our hike. The best phrase, which he would repeat throughout the trip was, “come here, take a picture with me.” This is special for me in a way he may not understand. I have very few photos with my ex-husband. He wasn’t into it and as a result, I’m so apprehensive about asking men to take pictures with me.

The smiles were unreal. We were closer than the day before (and as the trip progressed, we’d get closer every day...continuing into our return home). The hike to the waterfall was relatively easy and we took in the sights, smells, and sounds. It was humid for sure, but once you could hear the waterfall, you knew it was worth the sweat. There were quite a few people there, but we found a nice spot and carefully jumped in. The water was freezing and as you swam towards the waterfall the bottom of the pool was unknown. Yes, this was a little scary, but you know me, why not risk it. I never found the bottom and I didn’t drown...we hopped out and hiked on, discovering more pools, slipping on rocks, laughing, and quietly absorbing the beauty that sounded us. We kept talking about wanting to go zip lining...figured we’d finish the hike, eat lunch and see what we could make happen. As it turned out, the time slots would have taken up the whole day and we opted to grab some smoothies (with rum), explore a cemetery, and head back to Isla Verde to hope the weather holds up for us to jet ski. The weather did hold up and we swapped back and forth flying through the ocean. On our way back to Dorado he needed cash, and forgot his bank card in the ATM machine. This was another point where I was questioning if the vibe would change. With my ex-husband it would, whether he would want it to or not...I’m no longer expecting disaster (like I was with Alex), but I do perk up and take special note to remain positive. It was fine. Like it sucked sure, but I reassured him I had a enough money. There was a point when he was on the phone with the bank and I was talking, he abruptly told me to be quiet, that he could only listen to one thing at a time. His tone was appropriate, but sure, a little snappish. When he was put on hold he apologized. I am not asking for perfection...actually the reason I’m so attracted to him is his openness in his lack of perfection. What I would expect is the acknowledgement (from both ends) of when we’re off, or wrong. He wasn’t wrong in his response, it happens, its frustrating to lose a bank care and know you have no money far away from home...but he also knows I was only trying to help and I appreciated his apology.

There was a point during our talks where he said I give him what he needs. I know that’s space and a non-judgmental or critical perspective. I’ve learned how absolutely critical these two aspects are in my relationships. It isn’t always easy. But my major failure as a wife was how fucking harsh and mean I could be. Not all the time, but enough. I lost my temper, I couldn’t let things go, I wasn’t patient. But at the time I didn’t know this. I thought because I was sacrificing left and right, then I was right and he was wrong. That’s not the case. I shouldn’t have been sacrificing. If I had a problem, I needed to learn how to talk in a way that I could be heard. Bobby at times falls off the radar. It is hard for me...like, my need for planning and communication does not work great with this. I didn’t know if I could communicate with him how hard his behavior can be for me, but it came out effortless. I explained that I understood his need, but I just want him to know its hard for me. And he heard it fully. I wasn’t accusing him of anything, just letting him know he’s important enough to me that his actions impact me. He’s still going to fall off the radar. It is what it is and I’m accepting that’s a part of being in this with him.

Wednesday had us loading up the car and hitting the road for Ponce, Guanica, Rincon, and Islabela (south, west, and north west coasts). The drive was incredible. Bobby was driver and dj, two roles he mastered perfectly. We recorded our drive through the mountains, and soaked in the views. We found a perfect little spot to each some local food on the side of the mountain road. The amount of times he reflected his happiness in the moment warmed my spirit. I remember after I booked the trip writing out my thoughts and how much I enjoy being able to share adventuring with people who struggle to pull the trigger. We ate up, and continued on. There was no rush or pressure to get anywhere by any time. Ponce was nice, we walked along the pier, again he grabbed my hand and walked close with me. We got in the car and continued on to kayaking...

It’s hard for me to describe how in just the drive over, on these winding roads, with the incredible ocean to our right, I felt myself opening further. We turned out just to take a picture, and take pause at the beauty. We found another turn out and hopped in the water. It was water and delightful. Onward we went to kayaking...we had no reservation, but they had a double for us. Off we went with out bottle of rum. We paddled through the mangroves and then found a private beach for ourselves. We relaxed in the ocean, napping, kissing, drinking, and more...the sexual chemistry is everything I could want.

Our day ended in Rincon, with the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen. We found a spot, embraced each other, and again took pause. I hate rushing through life and hustling from moment to moment. While I don’t need hours to absorb, I do like how we both wanted to take in this rare opportunity. We both needed this trip so badly, and I don’t think either one of us were expecting to get so close over the week. Maybe he was....I had no idea what to expect. As I think about everything now, I still have no fucking clue what I’m doing or where i’m at. No, I do. I’m scared. I’m scared of getting hurt and I’m scared of hurting him. I’m asking him to trust me and I don’t trust me. We haven’t had any formal talk...maybe we should. I don’t want to. This is where i’m fucked up...if we talk, then its more real. If we just let it be, I have the freedom to wander in and out of it...but that’s not fair. At the very least perhaps a conversation about expectations. But no. I want to trust myself and then ask him to do this with me. A while ago we talked and set up a whole “don’t ask, don’t tell” and essentially things were left in my court as to whether we make this something committed. I want to leave things alone and not define, let life take its course...but that conflicts with the other side of me.

Back to Puerto Rico...Wednesday night, after dinner, sunsets, drinks, making out in parking lots, we found our way back to the hotel and for hours of ravishing each other in the most sensual and aggressively fantastic ways. The clock turned midnight (my birthday) with him pleasing every sensation I have. We fell asleep in each others arms...another day and night in paradise.

Rincon spoke to the both of us. Even as I type this and I’m grudgingly back in reality, I know that place was something special. Wow and fuck. I’m actually nervous at how much I’m into him. But whatever. I’ll have to live with that because to honor my feelings, well, I’m into him. I was up earlier than him and took an hour to myself. I want that hour alone on my birthday. I read and then woke him up...we got it on some more and then found food in the square in town. We walked around, he grabbed my hand, we looked in a real estate window, and took more pictures together. We longed for more time, but knew we had a drive to our next destination and went on our way.

Playa Jobos in Isabela was beautiful and offered us coconuts with rum, chickens, and some majestic coastlines. We cracked up trying to get videos and pictures of us. Laughing is so big for me. He has a video of us waiting for a wave and we’re kissing, and i can feel the closeness build between us watching that video.

On the way to our next stop an incident happened with another car who was very aggressive towards us. I was nervous. I feel like he wanted to keep fucking with this other driver and if it was the states and I was driving, I would have as well. But I didn’t want this to turn into a major incident...I talked to Bobby and maybe grudgingly he let it go. He was so tense though, as anyone would be. I was thanking him and gently rubbing his arm. Inside I was nervous. “Fuck, what if this kills the mood on my birthday...what if this is where reality comes in...okay. calm down. just be calm and don’t push your nervous onto anyone.” We got back and I said, “let’s go down to the beach for a little”. He was in and we actually enjoyed the quiet. We got back upstairs, we cuddled in bed, he ravished me once again, and then we showered to get ready for the night. The mood was restored and everything was perfect. And then I put on my dress...and he sees me and lightly laughs. “What are you laughing at?” “Every guy is going to be starting at you” (in a tone of pride)...”will you be?” “maybe” (with a smile and wink). That’s the reaction i was hoping for...and then he changed twice. Even better. The directions to Old San Juan sucked, I confused us a bit, but he didn’t lose his patience, we just re-routed, parked and walked around. Found a rootop tapas bar, drank, laughed at the ridiculous white people next to us, made eye contact, and all that wonderful stuff. He met up with someone briefly for party favors, and I had a chance to reflect on what a spectacular life I have. No, i didn’t feel ditched or insulted. I am well aware of who I’m dating and accepting of that part of him. Is there a reason this is written so deep, yes. I don’t want others to judge him or me. I wish I didn’t care, but I do.

It was in Old San Juan, after some rum, that we talked a little more about our trust issues and such. What we’re scared of, what we want, etc. By 2am we were done with the night, ready to go back to Dorado and have him and I enjoy this sexy dress I was wearing. By 5am I was crashing out.

Friday we opted to relax. I went down to the beach solo until 11-11:45am while he slept in...we got some lunch and then inadvertently napped wrapped so deep into each other. It was surreal. We finally got up and went down to a secluded part of the beach to continue napping. We snorkeled, something on the to-do list we didn’t think we’d get too, and then got frozen yogurt before dinner...because Puerto Rico. Our last night was quiet and peaceful. I fell asleep in his arms and woke up tucked in his chest. He caressed my head, neck and arms, sending warmth and security through me. Is this security a permanent thing? No. I don’t get that anymore from anyone permanently, but I’ll be open to when the feeling comes through.

We didn’t want to leave. We wanted to be in paradise for as long as possible. A place where we don’t have to deal with our stresses and life. Where we could be the best versions of ourselves, individually and together. We smoked a joint on some road by the rental car place, quietly saying goodbye to paradise. At the airport, it was a pain, but never overwhelming and in the security line, we were “that couple”. When we found out we were separated, we were both bummed. For the second flight we asked to switch and the person was kind to do so. We agreed I’d spend Saturday night with him...I was surprised. Really, he wants more time with me after a week...

Saturday night when we got back to Long Beach on our way into the grocery store, he kind of snapped at me. I guess I had been looking over at his phone when he was on it and he said that it was really bothering him a lot. His tone kind of threw me off. He said he didn’t mind me looking at him (which is HUGE because a few months ago this made him so anxious; I think he sees I’m just taking him and his presence him), but just hated that I was looking over his shoulder, it was really unsettling. I apologized, I didn’t realize I kept doing it...but I don’t know, I just got a little guarded and bummed. It would bother me too, hence the apology, but you know, it threw me. In line, he put his arm around me and gently kissed me. I got it. I got his message and what he realized. He didn’t have to apologize, but he could tell however he addressed me resulted in me pulling away and that’s not what he wanted. Sunday I intended to get up at a reasonable hour to study...well, at 10am he pulled me in close and I remained there until almost 3pm. As we were getting ready he asked if I was staying over again Sunday...I have a midterm, I have to study. We got on his motorcycle to get sushi and he says over lunch, “i’ll leave you alone so you can study for a few hours...i want you next to me.” I smiled at him and conceded...At another point over lunch I was talking about my wonderful friends from school and he says to me, “you’re my only wonderful people”. I melted. Of course I wish he had more, but he’s opened so much. We rode around and then he left me to study for a few hours. I spent Monday morning cuddling and hating my group class for taking me away from this perfect seven days. I knew once I left life would resume and all that comes with it. The stress, the distance that just happens because he works and i do school, work, internship; the making plans to see each other, rather than just being together...

Monday afternoon he asks if I’m staying over again...that he got used to me in his bed. I responded, “as long as you want me next to you, I’ll be there.” He response, “k then. be there.” I got one last night and morning with him. Sunday 3/26 through Monday 4/3, we spent every night embracing one another. I was happy and stress free every day and that is so rare. I have no idea what the future holds. I’m so unsure and anxious in relationships. I’m so fucking broken down and untrusting; he’s got a ton of his own shit. But, this is what i’m in and I’m my way to drop off some dinner we’ll hopefully eat together tonight.

I feel more human and like myself than I have in a long time.

Ola Americano... Turtle?: 16. I Don’t Like This

Jet black walls were trimmed in a once hot pink color that faded with age. The business’ sign was its name in script that resembled mostly of a Barbie font. Underneath it we're rearrangeable letters that spelled out titles in Portuguese. Finding the place was not so hard, but it was a long trek since they had to find their way through the bustling night near the famous Copacabana. Fortunately, the city was very similar to New York with its architecture, thus they were able to travel the best way they knew how. By rooftop. Settled in a more quiet setting, the mutants lurked around the standoff-ish building. With no windows and no easy access to the place alone, they had to settle for the most practical yet revealing way to see through. The door. It was obvious that it was a business for numerous individuals, both rugged and groomed, came through the front doors. The only problem was that there was a good flow of people coming through. Raphael had pointed out that there was indeed a door that was hidden in the dark due to the absence of light around it.

With the ‘ok’, the red brute took out his sai from its back sheath. With its small tip, he jiggled the doorknob as silently as he could. Donatello listened in closely to hear it unlock and nodded when he got it done. With the sai replaced, Leonardo jumped in to open the door for he had a ready and steady hand. His intentions were to just crack the door open. Fortunately, there was a chain lock that only let it go so far in case they accidentally swung it open. He gave a slow sigh after the fact.

The room was dark with ominous, neon lights that lit up in particular spots. The main scheme was a luscious purple followed by some blue and red hues here and there. With the dancing music, it looked like a hangout until they saw that there was a stage to their right. It was reflective, but extremely black. Most of the lights danced around the floor of the stage. Catching glimpses of the light, some skimpily clad women danced together in rhinestones. Leo slowly closed the door up until there was a sliver of space open. As he turned his head away, his innocent eyes were wide with scarring and fear. “Angel didn’t mention this.” He gulped, still trying to get himself together as he sat down beside the door. It just caught him off guard. Raphael, curious to see what got him riled up, leaned over him to crack the door open again. This time, the rest of the mutant gang wanted to peek in as well. Immediately seeing what was going on, they, too, turned around closely and re-shut the door.

“Naw, I’m out.” Raphael shook his head and put his hands up. “Turning around.” A hand stopped him after it snagged him by the hem of his pants. “Stay here.” Leonardo commanded. Raphael scoffed in disbelief. “You’re not serious, Leo.” “I don’t like it at all, but we got to see if he’s in there.” “How?” Donatello chimed in with a shaking voice. Aw, the poor kid. “Time to test how mature you guys can really be.” He said with a newfound confidence. Opening the door some, he tried to scan the dark room. Suddenly, he shut the door. It was almost a slam, which caused the clan to retaliate back at his carelessness. He quieted them with his reasoning. Upon his face, he was severely mortified with widened eyes and a tense posture against the wall. Again? “You know, on second thought, why-don’t-you-two-scope-it-out-first.” His attention was clearly on the two mutant sisters as he spoke breathlessly. Yet another scarring on the honor turtle. “What happened to our fearless leader?” Raphael teased with laughter behind his words. The leader cleaned up his act to roll his eyes. “It’s called ‘respect’.” He snapped back, growling in between.

Pushing past them, Mona tapped them both on the head to stop their bickering. Opening the door, she watched as the boys looked away. Venus just stood by for only one really needed to monitor the scene. The lizard lady sighed out of boredom multiple times. Seeing such a display unsettled her. Ultimately, this was frowned upon where she came up from, but since she also respected that this was how these girls could make some money, she was torn. Sure, some girls enjoyed this work,but she really felt bad for those who had to come to this as a last resort. She could see it on some of the girl’s faces as their expressions gave subtle cues of discomfort. She wished she could intervene on their behalf, but now was not the time. After some minutes, the naked women disappeared and a more modest act began to unfold involving a foreign dancer in traditional cloth. “There’s nothing ‘bad’ going on. You can look.” Mona spoke deadpan to the group. Once again, a little more shyly this time, they all peeked into the room. What they saw was a lot softer. On the stage was a dark skinned, Brazilian woman with short curls. She wore a sky blue rhinestoned brazierre and a long, silky skirt. Her act was belly dancing to Middle Eastern music. The gold accents and chains clinked numerous times as he moved her hips abruptly yet flawlessly. Taking in the show directly was unbelievable. Front row, taking up three seats, were their guys. Cha Ocho, alive, was on one end while another guy sat in the middle. Who could be next to him was none other than the guy they were truly looking for. Dark skinned with a mean mug and a short haircut was the man they were looking for (all thanks to Vincent for sending in a mugshot). Upon being in the front, the dancer paid more attention to them as they sat back and smiled at her. “Yeah, I can hang out with this guy.” Michelangelo slipped out. When he did, there was already a backlash of disapproving looks. He brought his hands up in surrender, but was very calm by closing his eyes and talking smoothly. “I know, I know, ‘Don’t be an idiot’.”

“What’s the plan?” Venus whispered, pulling everybody back out except for Mikey who was too infatuated by what was going on inside. “We bust in and ask Stockman’s friend a couple questions.” Raphael proposed by cracking the knuckles in his fist. A beat down was going to feel good after they did them dirty. “Raph, we can’t go in there.” Leonardo shook his head. “Why the shell not?” Was Leo just being a hypocrite earlier to stay, or what? “Just shake up the place a little bit without anybody catching us.” “No.” He spoke low and firm. “We need more time before the police try to arrive. Its gotta be something a little more subtle than that.” “Someone’s gotta go in.” Donatello reminded. Leonardo understood, but he wasn’t sure how or whom. Meanwhile, Michelangelo was still incognito with his ogling.

“Dang, look at that girl go.” He whispered in amazement. “Mikey!” Donnie whispered harshly. Then, he grabbed him by the shell and pulled him back from the door. “No, for real, she doin’ that belly dancin’ stuff! It’s insane! How her hips do that?” He whispered that last part partially to himself. “Look!” He urged them to see as he pointed. It got the attention of the others. The only one to delay was Leo, who only rolled his eyes and groaned at his childish ways. “Mikey, we don’t wanna…” His voice trailed off just as his eyes once it hit what Michelangelo was talking about. It wasn’t so vulgar of the sorts as the woman dressed in traditionally modern dress and jived with the beat. “wow, that’s pretty cool.” He had to admit as she popped and did a well done shake down. “Her outfit isn't revealing either. She almost looks like a…” Before Michelangelo could finish that thought, his voice trailed off. As if by magic, Venus, Leo, and Donatello all had a similar idea. Slowly, their heads turned towards Mona Lisa. The lizard lady was distracted from their stares for the longest time. Raphael was the first to see what was out of the ordinary as the rest of the group looked on at her. A moment passed until she gave herself a break from the dancing woman. When she looked back, she jumped from their stares. Her hand covered her mouth as she uttered something small.

“Do you need something?” She asked, quite confused and with a raised brow. “You need to go in there, Mona. Pose yourself as a dancer to get his attention.” Leonardo asked of her. The mere thought that he would suggest such a thing surprised her. Then, by the looks on the others’ faces, they were along with it too? Are they serious? “Do I look like a stripper to you?” There was a lot of attitude in her tone. When she asked, her head bounced as she placed her hands on her rocking hip. “You will when you jump on the pole.” The lizard lady glared at the young mutant. He took a step back. “I’m just saying.” “You’ll be fine.” Leo assured. “I’m a mutant.” She fired back. “And human, and you get the upper hand over Venus since she has a shell.” He pointed out. It was true. Mona would have an easier time explaining tail than a giant shell merged to her body if the question arose. “I'm also a minor?” This time, her voice was unsure in a last ditch effort. “But not by that much.” The leader smiled shyly. He was just as unsure as she was. Typical. A sickening feeling in her stomach visited when she took another look inside. Was she really going to do something like that? Putting herself out there like that, all eyes on her, was going to definitely be out of her comfort zone. Then, what was she going to do? Just the sound of the word ‘twerk’ made her cringe and this was a field where it was highlighted. The red clad terrapin took her gently by the arm. He pulled her back away from the door and spoke for her.

“If she doesn’t want to go, she doesn’t need to go.” Raphael argued. It was then Venus had a weird feeling. It started in her face as a current of electricity tickled her nose. The female turtle flared her nostrils briefly, but when it didn’t work, she used her arm to push it down. The feeling subsided some, but it was more comfortable than before. Paying back attention, she saw Donatello reach for Mona Lisa’s hand. Gentle and caring, his pulled it out of Raphael’s grasp. Mona wasn’t the one to be grabbed on, but she was too nervous that she let it happen. Also, who could turn away from those comforting eyes that kept her still?

“Just for a couple minutes so we know where Chapelin and Stockman are.” Donatello encouraged. He gave her hand a slow shake as if it would strengthen his grasp on her. “We’re right behind you.” Then, another hand took her free one. It was Michelangelo this time. She had to admit, behind her concerns, it was pretty cute that the two youngest were trying to comfort the oldest of the group. “The world depends on this.” Venus spoke from behind Raphael. The combination of large brown and blue eyes followed by her sister’s reasoning was putting her own thoughts into overload. The lizard lady sighed, chewing on her bottom lip afterward. Mona removed her hand from the turtle boys’ grasp. “I’m going through the back.” She turned around bluntly. The lizard with a mission brushed past Raphael whose face contorted into multiple, frustrated scowls towards his team members. However, they were not concerned with him

“Whoa, wait up.” The turtle girl stopped her with a hand to her shoulder. Then, she cocked a brow and looked down on her. Mona’s eyes followed the hand that was outstretched to her. “Sports Bra.” She demanded. Repulsed by what she meant, her sister engulfed her chest in her arms defensively. “Venus!” “Hey, you have to sell it. Deception is the kunoichi’s true power, but those” The turtle girl pointed directly at her chest. “are a woman’s power.” Ugh! D**** social norms! It’ll be harder in the future, but this was a girl who couldn’t wait until a woman didn’t need to be sent out as an object for manipulation. Of course, she was trained for manipulating, but this was one aspect she liked to skip. “Fine.” When she pulled the cuff of her sleeve, the brothers looked away as she wriggled out of the tight contraption. They can tell she was really struggling with her disgruntled grunts. Or was that her being upset that she was actually doing this? “You want a world class stripper?” An unusual amount of confidence and baritone came out of the lizard lady. They were still looking away so they couldn’t see a ‘proud’ yet annoyed Mona Lisa put her arms up in a presenting fashion and walk away. “I’ll give you ‘Kinky Kunoichi’!”

Coming up beside them, the boys relaxed as Venus entered their circle. Mona had disappeared into the back. As promised, Venus looked down at her sister’s sports bra confided in her hand. She stared down on it like some type of trophy to get her sister out of her comfort zone successfully. Upon seeing it, Raphael shook his head and rocked his body. “I don’t like this.” “Just a couple minutes. Besides, Mona is a professional. She’s gonna squeeze information from that guy.” Donnie tried to make him feel somewhat better about the situation. Everyone knew Raphael was just as hard to get out of his comfort zone as the lizard lady. “Right after she gives him a lap dance.” Understandably irritated, the family’s eyes turned to glared at the unapologetic orange masked turtle. Shamelessly, his nose was back in the door and smiling at what he saw. The orange tails of his mask were abruptly pulled on. He forced himself not to utter anything as he was pulled back and up on his knees. Hovering over him, Raphael scowled sternly. “Not helping.” He whispered. Then, he dropped him, in which the bottom rim of his shell dug into his large calves. Pouting, Michelangelo muttered. “Should’ve just let me dress in drag and do the hula.” he offered. Donnie raised his brow in disapproval. “That’s an image no one deserves to see.” He commented. Michelangelo gave him a shrug. “Just trying to help.”
