Pairing : vampire!enhypen x fem!oc
Genre : vampire, kingdom, reverse harem <3, fluff, angst, smut on some chapters
Summary : The name Sterling hits like thunder for the royal bloodlines. Sterling is the most dangerous vampire family throughout the ages. After they left Krashoviel due to their sweet human daughter, twenty-one years later the same daughter came back for help... or the omen that Cairneyes warned the others about.
WARNINGS : mdni, heavy content, deep world building (i went kinda crazy), blood, murder, manipulation, gaslighting, toxic behavior, curses, religious theme mentioned sometimes, obsessive, (more to add later). DO NOT PROCEED if uncomfortable
Disclaimer : THIS IS PURE FICTION, ALL THE BEHAVIORS OF MY CHARACTERS ARE NOT RELATED TO ENHYPEN REAL MEMBERS AT ALL!
Note : hi, guys. i finally contribute to the enhablr community by publishing this old draft that i wrote years ago. it was inspired by one of my loooong dream that i had on christmas eve night back then in 2020. i decided to stick on the original names that i have for them. all the fem characters doesn't have any face claims, i leave them to your imaginations. some random male idols might appear in the future as relatives/enemy/friends. without further do, meet the characters and i hope you guys enjoy!
CHAPTERS — PROLOGUE CHAPTER I CHAPTER II CHAPTER III CHAPTER IV
Introduction to our vampires:
Jestel Sinflame
/jé-ssel/ 299 years old — The rightful crown prince of Krashoviel. Choosing peace over war right now (living under the same roof as his brother-like best friends rather than in the sucking dry and toxic castle). A little bit classist like his family, Sinflame, except towards Ricardo, who he saw the potential of that kid himself. His parents died during the Red War and now he’s trying his hardest to contact his brother, Holstein, who also got lost in the war.
Sarco Phelanflame
/sár-ko/ 288 years old — Phelanflame has always been the first row at wars. They’re the leader of the soldiers. Very strong since birth with a little sadistic tendency. Their personality is cold, much colder than the other vampires around Krashoviel. If not cold, they’re always a little bit of an oddball. All the elders in his family were deceased during the last war. Now, Phelanflame only has three members, including Sarco and his two other cousins.
Ricardo Nikolai
/ree-kár-do/ 20 years old — Came from an orphanage, Ricardo is a third-class vampire in Krashoviel. He got lucky because Jestel and Sarco saw his potential while visiting his orphanage, they took him home and gave him all the facilities he needed. Ricardo likes to play fight with almost everybody, but his favorite activity to do is disturbing Jusarlie’s peace.
Jasper
/jæs-per/ approximately 23 years old — A new vamp who was found in the woods during their monthly patrolling. No one knows about his background, he lost his memory, so they named him Jasper.
Saine Cairneye
/sāin/ 201 years old — Grandson of the current Queen on the throne. His mother died during the war. The Cairneye bloodline is in charge of magick, witchcraft, astrology, omen, and so on. Their current job is reading people intentions and possible-futures with their crazy personality tests. They are blessed with good physical appearance, and all of them look like elves. They have a silly little hobby, which is accidentally having a vision that scares the royal family a.k.a Sinflame!
Jusarlie Grieffang
/jou-sār-lee/ 297 years old — Grieffang, the fang of Krashoviel. They are the greatest strategists and professors, Grieffang is one of the keys of Krashoviel’s endless winning of wars. They’re still relatives with Sinflame. Jusarlie is Jestel’s distant nephew, though their age gap is not far. Rival kingdoms tried to kidnap and use Grieffangs against Krashoviel during their wars, but it was no use, Grieffangs are loyal and far smarter than them. Plenty of them are still alive after the wars along with Sinflames.
Hiael Von Ruden
/heeæl/ 314 years old — His original nation is Slevado, Hiael was a crown prince. He turned his back after the Red War, and it creates a huge controversy. He is now working under Jestel’s command and is currently busy training Jasper. He’s reserved, calm, to the point where it becomes scary rather than comforting for his surroundings. No one knows what is on his mind, but for Jestel, as long as he has made a blood pact then he’s good.

CHAPTER IV: BLOODY NIGHT
Wilhelmina is in a good mood today, she’ll be back at her uncle’s mansion! Her favorite place ever, because everyone in the castle is not fun. Here in the mansion, they’ve got Ricardo and Jasper who are just as weird as her. Now, she heard that the new girl is also a fun person too! She can’t wait to meet her!
A little bit contrast for the seven vampires, Wilhelmina is like a thunderstorm. Sure, she keeps the house lively! But no one would deny the chaos that she would be making every five minutes is kind of difficult to handle.
“Tell me what happened while I’m gone. In full. Where is the new girl? I want to meet her.” Wilhelmina demands Jasper.
“Good timing, she’s in your uncle’s office.” Jasper grins.
“Oh! What chapter did I miss?” Wilhelmina smirks at the hinted statement.
“A lot! Go barge in, you’ll see for yourself.” Jasper whispered.
Wilhelmina walks upstairs to Jestel’s office with Jasper.
“I’ll wait here.” Jasper informed. Stopping right next to a vase.
Wilhelmina nods and storms uninvited. She clearly could see the way Jestel was so drooling over the new girl.
“Wilhelmina, how many times—” Jestel sighed at her behavior.
“GOOD MORNING! Hi, I’m Wilhelmina. I’m so glad we finally meet each other!” Wilhelmina smiles widely at Iolana.
“Hi! I’m Iolana. I heard about you from Jestel and Ricardo a lot!” Iolana smiles back, she gave her a smile that she didn’t give to any of those guys. A genuine, warm smile.
Jestel froze when he saw her smiling like that.
“My room is on the 4th floor! Please visit me if you have spare time. Or I can visit you! We can go shopping, gossiping, do each other’s hair—oh, wait! WOW! You have short hair, that’s rare!” Wilhelmina is shocked. She had never seen any girl with mid-length hair like Iolana before.
“Wilhelmina, manners.” Jestel reminded her.
“I apologize, Iolana. I was just curious!”
“It’s okay! My brother accidentally cut it during our duels.” Iolana answered, still with her warm smile. She feels safe around Wilhelmina, there’s no bad vibes from her.
“Are you planning to grow it?”
“Of course! Wouldn’t want to get some mouths on my new society.” Iolana giggled.
“Fuck them, you’re very cool!” Ricardo was right, Iolana gets along with Wilhelmina really well.
“Wilhelmina, watch the language.” Jestel reminds her again. “Get out, you’re disturbing our discussion.”
“Oh, my my! Iolana, you must be special. He hates discussion, let alone with a new girl that he just met.” Wilhelmina giggled. She loves teasing everyone in the house, especially her uncle. It gave her a sense of control and it’s fun.
“Don’t listen to her, Iolana.” Jestel tries to convince Iolana otherwise.
“You can ask everyone, Iolana. I might be a trouble, but I never lie.” Wilhelmina laughed this time. Surely Jestel can’t beat that statement, Iolana knows that it’s the truth.
“Are you done, Wilhelmina?” Jestel is panicking.
“He gave her his blood.” Jasper added, bursting into the room.
“Really, Jasper?” Jestel is frustrated right now.
“What does that mean?” Iolana plays dumb.
“Well, somebody is ready to settle down! Eager, aren’t we?” Wilhelmina is enjoying this. “Iolana, you’re truly special. Blood is a big deal around here.”
“Really?”
“Not necessarily!” Jestel panicked again.
“It’s the biggest love form for us Kroshoviens. Hope that helps!” Wilhelmina is giggling nonstop.
“Oh! Even if they mix the blood with somebody else’s blood too?”
“Well, they’re all confessing to you then.” Jasper shrugged his shoulder. “Who’s the other boys?”
“Saine, Jusarlie, and Sarco.”
“Sarco?!” They stopped for a second. “Sarco gave his blood to you?”
“Yes, yesterday after dinner.” Iolana explained.
“This is so fun!” Wilhelmina eyes lit up in excitement. “Hope you can handle the intensity, Iolana!”
“Wait, Wilhelmina, could you explain it again to me? I’m kind of puzzled here.” Iolana played her part.
“That would be my pleasure! Let’s go to your room, I’ll explain further.”
“Iolana, she might add a few lies.” Jestel warned her again.
“No, Wilhelmina never lie.” Jasper shoos them away.
“Bye, Uncle Jestel! Bye, Jasper!” Wilhelmina hugs Iolana’s arm and walks to the 3rd floor together while chatting.
Jestel is visibly bothered.
“Look who’s in a lovestruck now.” Jasper laughed at Jestel’s expression.
“I could handle those other two, but Sarco? Really?” Jestel faked a deep sigh.
“Don’t you think you should start to listen to Idris? None of his omen are proven wrong, especially for this girl.” Jasper gives him simple advice.
“Maybe I should, it is hard to believe this sometimes.”
—
“Wilhelmina, are you not bothered by my scent?” Iolana asked her when they reached the 3rd floor.
“Oh, it only works for the opposite gender! I feel comfortable with you even though you’re a sweet-scented human!” Wilhelmina explained.
“Do they just want my blood…? I don’t know who to trust right now.” Iolana frowned.
“Hey, it’s okay. I feel you, it must be very overwhelming. Take it easy, Iolana. I personally think that they’re in real lovestruck.” Wilhelmina waits for Iolana to open her bedroom door.
They walk in and sit on the bed.
“So… about the blood confession? I don’t know… could you explain more?” Iolana asked politely.
“Basically, if they give you, their blood. It means they’re consenting to you to call upon them whenever you want and need. Hence why we see it as the greatest form of love. It’s not common for one to give their blood so easily to someone they just knew. That’s why I called you special.” Wilhelmina explained.
“Is it that serious?”
“Yes! Only engaged and married people usually do that thing to each other. So, sum it up by yourself.” Wilhelmina laughed. “They’re so in love with you, they think you’re the one for them.”
“This is a bad thing, then?” Iolana gulps.
“Depends on how you look at it, me personally, it’s so fun! You can just summon them as you wish. How fun is that?” Wilhelmina tries to make Iolana see the bright and fun side.
“Whenever, huh?” Iolana nods and smirks.
“That’s the spirit!” Wilhelmina knew Iolana hides something mischievous behind those shy smiles. “Don’t you want to try to summon one of them?”
“Sure! Who should I call?” Iolana is confused.
“Call my uncle.”
“Okay, let’s try.” Iolana is giggling. She tries to focus herself while taking a deep breath. “Jestel, I need you.”
In a second, Jestel teleported in her room. He looks confused. “Iolana, did she ask you to do that?”
“We just want to try!” Iolana defends Wilhelmina who’s smugly grins at Jestel now.
“Okay, next time do it only if you need me, alright?” Jestel tried to be as soft-spoken as he could. It’s a funny scene to watch for Wilhelmina.
“Okay, Jestel.” Iolana puts up her innocent gaze.
“I’ll get going.” Jestel nods and walks out from her room.
Wilhelmina laughed loudly as Jestel had already walked up the stairs. “You’re so good at acting sweet, you should teach me.”
“The key is in the eyes. Just make it bigger, full of hope, and blink a few times, you know. Like this.” Iolana gives her an example. “Always work on men.”
“Let me try, let me try.” Wilhelmina closes her eyes, preparing to try the sweet-looking eyes method. She opens her eyes, giving it an essence of hope, and blinks a few times. “Like this?”
“Yes, that’s perfect!” Iolana claps her hand, proud of Wilhelmina. Girlhood is so fun.
“I’m going to use it against Jasper.” Wilhelmina mumbled to herself.
Iolana gives her a smug grin, “You like him, don’t you?”
“No, no, no! No way, right?” Wilhelmina’s nervous chuckles are enough evidence of her real feelings toward Jasper.
“Sure! No way, right?” Iolana mocks her.
“Don’t tell anyone! You’re the first to know!” Wilhelmina whispered.
“Let’s just hope Saine isn’t in his room right now.” Iolana whispered back.
A knock on the door made them jump. “Iolana, it’s me.”
Oh, lord. It’s Saine.
“Speaking of the devil.” Iolana laughed. “Come in, Saine.”
Saine walks in with a sweet smile, but it fades away immediately when he sees Wilhelmina. “Oh, my vamp, it’s you.”
“You gave your blood to her, right?” Wilhelmina strikes back. “That’s so sweet of you, Saine.”
Saine swifts uncomfortably, “Uh, yes. Anyways, I’m going for a walk in the town. Do you want to join me, Iolana?”
“Sure! Can we invite Wilhelmina too?” Iolana is in her innocent mask again.
“Sure.” Saine nods. Praying to every deity and his ancestors that he could think of right now.
“I’ll go ask Jasper.” Wilhelmina smiles at Iolana, then smirks at Saine. “Jaspeeer!”
“Stop screaming, I could hear you perfectly without all the screams.” Jasper shows up immediately at Iolana’s door.
“Relax, soulmate. Let’s join Iolana and Saine for a walk.” Wilhelmina chuckled.
“Sure, let’s go. I’m ready.” Jasper nods.
“Okay, our first stop is my father. He made a special necklace for Iolana. We should grab it first, I’m sure it can hide her sweet scent.” Saine smiles warmly at Iolana.
—
Holstein crouched in front of the last Sterling that he could bring here alive. Fortunately for him, it’s Tama Sterling! The eldest son of Tearle. Luckily, Tama survived his own suicide. So, here he is! Lying on the special prison’s floor, helpless, out of energy, hungry maybe? He’s also very angry. Only if he is a vampire, they’ll be dead by now.
“Is your sister alive?” Holstein asked.
Tama remained silent.
“She’s important to me.” Holstein said again. “She might be the one.”
“Over my dead body.” Tama mocks him.
“You’re so hard to talk to, just like Jestel. I’m sure Iolana is just like me. Easy to talk to, cold-headed, and not stingy.” Holstein scoffed. “Don’t worry, Tama. You’ll be a vampire soon.”
That can’t be happening, what are their plans now?
“Without your memory too, isn’t it sweet? You’re going to be our little dangerous weapon.”
“I’d rather die.”
“You don’t get to choose here.” Holstein hits Tama’s head, not enough to make him die, but enough to knock him out.
—
Iolana stands up and hugs Saine’s arm. Ready for the quick speed she’s going to face. They’re instantly gone in a second, it takes fifteen seconds to get to the Cairneye’s Mansion. Iolana never realized how far it was. Maybe yesterday she was really enjoying the view.
“Papa!” Saine shouts for his father.
“My ears,” Idris acts like his ears are hurt by Saine’s voice.
“Whatever, where is the pendant?” Saine is fed up with Idris’ playfulness.
“Oh, there’s a few things that I need to tell you. Are you sure these two can keep their mouth shut?” Idris points at Jasper and Wilhelmina.
“Guys, get ou—” Saine was interrupted by Iolana.
“They can stay. I trust them.” Iolana calmly answered.
“Are you sure?” Idris frowned.
“I have their secrets, it’s good.” Iolana tilts her head a little bit.
“Woah, what is my secret?!” Jasper is panicking.
“She’ll tell you later, now Uncle Idris tell us.” Wilhelmina glares at Jasper.
“Well, Iolana. Get ready to be hex!” Idris tells the news like it’s a birthday party, full smile, little claps. This man is crazy.
“Idris, slow down.” You can see Iolana is slightly panicking. “What did I do?”
“It’s not a you problem, it’s Slevado.” Idris laughed. “As usual.”
“Ugh, those bitches.” Iolana couldn’t hide her hatred toward that nation. “What did they have in mind this time?”
“First of all, do you know this?” Idris holds a necklace in front of her face, for her to see clearly.
“That’s… how did you… is my brother alive?” Iolana is out of words. The necklace was Tama’s. He always wears it wherever he goes. It’s his treasure.
“He might be alive, I’m not sure. Can you sense him? It took a lot of energy for someone to transfer their real time vision to me, let alone letting me grab a thing. He’s a great wizard.” Idris complimented Iolana’s brother.
Iolana doesn’t say a thing, she holds the pendant of that necklace and focuses her energy to find her brother.
“We found you in the woods. We don’t know who turned you into a vampire, but you’re safe here with us.” It looks like they’re having a feast. Tama is right there, sitting next to Holstein.
“I’m thirsty.” Tama looks miserable.
“I know, drink as much as you want.” The heir of Slevado is such a sweet talker. It scares Iolana off.
“You’re all so kind to me, what do you want from me?” Well, Tama is still Tama after all. Straight to the point and couldn’t trust people easily.
“Nothing! You can live here, this is your new home.”
Tama stares at him blankly. “Why?”
“You’re strong, you knocked out my guards. That’s why I decided to bring you here, to my castle.”
“You want me to be your guard?”
“No, we just want to give you a better life. That way you can explore more of your powers. We just want to help you.”
“Okay.” Tama is still not very friendly.
The vision ended. Iolana drops to the floor slowly after she witnessed all that. Saine holds her arms, he feels sad for her. She doesn’t deserve any of this.
“Turn me into a vampire.” Iolana said helplessly. “I’m your only chance.”
“Iolana, take a deep breath. What do you mean?” Wilhelmina crouched down.
“If they’re going to strike Krashoviel with Tama as a vampire. None of you will survive. Tama is a lot stronger than me.” Iolana explained.
“How strong was he as a human?” Saine asked, hoping that Iolana could provide a specific detail.
“As strong as Ricardo, but heartless.”
They gulp in unison. Ricardo is young, but he’s already almost as strong as Jestel. Maybe it’s all because of Sarco’s hard training, but since he’s young… he still follows his heart sometimes. He often lets emotion take over him.
“He might be stronger than Sarco now… with the fact that he’s also a new vampire as well.” Idris strokes his chin. “Where were you guys going?”
“Just a walk to see the town.” Saine answered.
“Cancel it, we need to do an urgent meeting.” Idris said calmly. “All of us.”
—
The palace is nervous, Idris said he will bring Iolana to the meeting today. How the table has turned, vampire fears a mere little human. Such a funny scene to watch.
“What do you think just happened?” Odelia asked Jestel.
“Another vision, maybe.” Jestel guessed. “He’s your son, you should know better.”
“They’re here.” Sarco said, standing up to greet Idris and the people that he brings to the meeting.
Idris opened the door and let his son, Wilhelmina, and Jasper enter the room first. Meanwhile, he enters the room alongside Iolana. Anyone who studied the art of people’s aura will definitely notice the flame and shadow competing to take over Iolana’s aura. The whole room are terrified. It’s so suffocating.
“Iolana, what happened?” Jestel asked her gently.
Idris let Iolana make the announcement. “My brother, Tama Sterling, has been kidnapped by Slevado. They turned him into a vampire just recently. You need to turn me into one too. I’m your only hope.”
“How so, my child?” Sullivan asked Iolana. Genuinely curious as to why she’s their only hope.
“They brainwashed Tama. It’s not good, Tama is far stronger than me even as a human. He will end you without any difficulties as a fresh vampire.”
“Do you know the possibility of his power right now?” Sarco asked.
“Do you know my grandfather? Thessio Sterling?”
“Oh, I’d rather not. I agree, turn her into a vampire.” Sullivan had a war flashback from that name alone.
“Is he that strong?” Wilhelmina is clueless.
“He’s dead and grandpa still has goosebumps just by hearing his name. What do you think?” Jestel asked Wilhelmina.
“Well, one of you should be Iolana’s host vamp then.” Wilhelmina nods.
“It’s not that simple. She needs to bond first.” Odelia is opposed to that idea. “Iolana, I’ll give you time to choose until Jestel’s birthday party.”
“Jestel’s birthday party? Do you want us dead, Odelia?” Sullivan sees this as an emergency.
“No, we must wait. Let her choose. Who wants to be his host vamp?” Odelia knows what’s going on.
Jestel, Jusarlie, Saine, Sarco, and Hiael raised their hands.
“Oh, my vamp.” Ricardo mumbled under his breath.
“What the fuck are you doing, Hiael?” Jestel yelled.
“What?” Hiael seems unbothered.
“Put your goddamn hand down.” Jestel couldn’t believe this.
“I was just answering Your Majesty’s question. I’m not going to be some ambitious Iolana’s chaser like you and the others.”
“Then put your hand down, don’t make this more complicated than it already is.” Saine tries to stay collected.
“I was just being honest?”
“See?” Odelia turns to her father.
“Iolana, I’ll guide you to choose a host vamp. Feel free to ask about anything. I’ll provide you with my information.” Idris said to Iolana.
“Sarco, I want you to train Iolana to be as strong as you in her human form.” Odelia ordered.
“Are you sure?” Idris is concerned. “As strong as Jestel would be enough.”
“We need someone who’s stronger than Tama, we can’t let anything out of control.” Odelia explained. “Do you copy, Sarco?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
—
Dinner time is almost ready, Iolana is in the bathroom. Preparing herself. Well, today is not nice to her apparently. She sees fresh blood on her panties. This is the least thing that she needs right now. Iolana panicked, she didn’t know what to do. She quickly changed her panties and washed the blood stained one.
“Iolana, let’s go.” Jusarlie’s voice makes her gulp.
“Jusarlie… tell Jestel and the others… my menstrual cycle is here.” Iolana holds the door with her body, just in case Jusarlie lost control.
“Shit.” Jusarlie panicked. “Wait, I’ll tell them. Don’t open the door to anyone before we gather here.”
For half a minute, she waits there patiently. Afraid of what could come for her.
“Iolana, it’s us.” Their voices somehow calmed her down. “Don’t open the door just yet. We could lose control.”
“What should I do?” Iolana is scared.
“Wilhelmina will take you to the basement’s bedroom. You should stay there for a few days.” Jestel explained. “It has triple protection door. You should be safe there.”
“T-triple?” Iolana was surprised by that.
“Yes, three iron doors. So, we can’t come in easily.” Jestel answered. “Why did it come faster than it should be?”
“Probably because I’m stressed.” Iolana took a guess. “I’m sorry to bother you, guys.”
“It’s okay, it’s not your fault.” Jestel reassured her. “Okay, we’ll be out of the house for a bit. You listen to Wilhelmina, okay?”
“Okay. Thank you.”
“Take care of her, Wilhelmina.” Saine taps his cousin’s shoulder.
They are out from the house, along with the butlers, maids, and guards. Waiting outside, while Iolana is being moved from her room to the basement.
“Iolana, let’s go.” Wilhelmina said gently.
Iolana opens the door slowly.
“Oh, wow. They would lose their mind if they were here. Come, quick.” Wilhelmina brought Iolana’s bag.
Iolana clings to Wilhelmina and they go to the basement in a second.
“Alright, I’ll explain fast. Every mealtime, they will give you food through this little food elevator. Remember to not open the iron door. It’s there for a reason. Jestel has prepared this room especially just for you, so I guess everything is here? If there’s anything you need, just talk through telepathy. You’ll figure it out. You’re a Sterling.” Wilhelmina smiles. “I’ll go. The door will be locked once I get out, only you can unlock it afterwards.”
“Thank you, Wilhelmina.” Iolana nods.
“Alright, you take care right here.” Wilhelmina waves before closing the ordinary door. Iolana could hear the iron door closing one by one while Wilhelmina walks out.
The basement’s bedroom is not bad, a good place even. Sure, it’s smaller than the original bedrooms, but it’s enough for Iolana. She began to unpack her things, praying that her menstrual cycle wouldn’t last long.
Meanwhile, the dining room is unbelievably quiet. Everyone tries their best to focus on their food and drink.
“Her scent. I’m going insane.” Jusarlie’s eyes dart to the secret door that Wilhelmina and Iolana pass through earlier.
“Yeah, tell me something I don’t know.” Saine is doing the same thing.
“Hold yourself together.” Jestel told them.
Sarco seems like he’s not listening, though. He’s done eating. Now his eyes keep staring at that secret door.
“Sarco.” Ricardo tries to call him. No response.
“Sarco?” Wilhelmina is worried now.
Sarco is gone in the blink of an eye. They were all panicking and rushed to the basement. They felt great relief when they saw Sarco is just standing in front of the first layer of iron door.
“Iolana, summon me if you need me. I know you’re in pain. I could help.” Sarco sounds so tempting for Iolana.
“Sarco?” Iolana replied hesitantly.
“Yes, just remember that you can summon me whenever you want.”
“Iolana, don’t listen to him.” Saine scoffed. “Summon me, instead. I know you better than him. We shop together, remember?”
“You’re high, let’s go.” Wilhelmina tried to drag Sarco and Saine out of there. “Do not summon any of those guys, Iolana. They’re not in their right state of mind.”
“Sarco…” Iolana whimpers loud enough for them to hear.
Oh.
That awakens something inside them. Something deeper. It crossed the line, it’s unethical. It’s something primal.
“Iolana, summon me if you need help. You know the words, Darling. You did it once yesterday, you can do it.” Jestel bangs on the iron door.
“Iolana, I could bring you your favorite novels. Just summon me, okay?” Jusarlie is also banging at the door.
“Jusarlie?” Iolana did leave the book that she’s currently reading.
“Iolana, you need me, right?” Sarco looks so desperate right now. That is surely not on anyone’s bingo list.
“Iolana, go to sleep. Don’t listen to them.” Wilhelmina keeps her sane, to be honest. Iolana is close to summoning one of them.
She knows it’s wrong, but at the same time it feels very right. She needs one of them. Menstrual hormone messes up with her.
“My vamp, I need to call Idris.” Wilhelmina faked a deep sigh. “Jasper, help me.”
“Let’s go.” Jasper nods, they immediately go to Idris as fast as they could.
Idris, who’s currently busy with customers, is puzzled by their sudden appearance.
“Wilhelmina, Jasper, what’s wrong?” Idris stopped stirring his pot.
“Iolana is in her menstrual cycle, and we couldn’t get the four of them away from the basement’s door.” Wilhelmina informed Idris.
“Bloody hell, couldn’t it pick a better time? I’ll be there in a minute, keep an eye on them.” Idris nods at them. They rushed back to the mansion while Idris excuse himself to the guests, “Could you wait for maybe ten minutes? I need to take care of something. Vampz in love, you know.”
“Sure! We could wait, Sir Idris. Take your time.”
Idris smiled at the guests and rushed himself to Jestel’s mansion. He goes straight to the basement and found an uncomfortable scene. Jestel, Jusarlie, Saine, and Sarco are practically begging. Beyond desperate to open the iron door.
“Collect yourself.” Idris goes to his son first, he slaps him a few times. Not working. Saine is still high. “This is what you get from giving your blood so generously to someone you just met.”
“Is this normal?” Jasper is curious.
“Yes, this is normal, if Iolana is a vampire. Well, unfortunately for us, she isn’t a vampire. Yet.” Idris sighed. “They’ll riot if we drag them upstairs. I’ll knock them out. Ricardo, Jasper, Hiael, help me transport them to the living room.”
Idris began to knock them up one by one with just a touch on their nape. Idris is indeed scary.
The others do what Idris said earlier, they’re now gathering in the living room. Idris sealed access to the basement for the four of them.
“When will they wake up?” Jasper asked.
“A minute from now, two minutes maximum.” Idris sighed again. “This is troublesome, we have to turn her into a vampire as soon as possible.”
Saine opens his eyes. His head is dizzy as he tries to sit. “What happened?”
“You were high, you dumb fuck.” Wilhelmina scolds him.
“Oh, I remember now.” Saine nods. “Is she okay?”
“She’s fine as long as she doesn’t interact with any of you lovestruck heads.” Wilhelmina scoffed again.
Jestel and Sarco are slowly opening their eyes too.
“Did I drink too much? What happened?” Jestel had no idea as well.
“You were high due to Iolana’s amazing scent.” Jasper laughed.
“Really?”
“Why do you think I need to call Idris here?” Wilhelmina scoffed.
“Oh, I apologize.” Jestel giggled.
“Iolana, please! You need me, Iolana. I could help you.” Ricardo mocks them.
“I didn’t say that.” Sarco shook his head.
“I am not even exaggerating anything, ask Hiael.” Ricardo is fed up.
“He’s right.” Hiael nods.
“Iolana.” Jusarlie sit straight, making the others surprised by his sudden move.
“Is he still high?” Ricardo looks confused.
“Iolana needs me.” Jusarlie said before completely disappeared in front of their eyes.
“ABSOLUTELY NOT.” Idris panicked. He rushed to the basement to check if Jusarlie teleported or walked. Wilhelmina and Jasper follow him along.
Their hearts dropped when they saw the basement was empty. Iolana summoned Jusarlie.
Iolana summoned Jusarlie.
“Iolana! Iolana! Don’t be ridiculous now!” Wilhelmina panicked, banging at the door. “Iolana! What are you doing?”
“She’s in good hands.” They could hear Jusarlie’s low chuckle from behind the doors.
Idris couldn’t say anything. He was speechless. He went back upstairs, hugging Wilhelmina and Jasper.
“Idris, what happened? Where’s Jusarlie?” Jestel is puzzled. “Why did you put a spell to lock us out?”
“Let’s just hope Iolana is alive and well after this.” Idris said calmly.
“What the fuck do you mean by that?” Sarco is annoyed.
“She summoned Jusarlie.”
The room felt thick. Completely shocked at the announcement.
“But she’s mine.” Sarco said almost to himself.
“Papa, you’re joking.” Saine tries to be as positive as he could be.
“Saine, let’s just hope she makes it out alive.” Idris pats his shoulder.
“Why? Why? WHY?!” You could hear the despair in Saine’s voice. “Why not me? Why?”
“Idris, read the future. Is he going to be her host vamp?” Jestel looks very insane right now. He grabs both of Idris arms. “Tell me, Idris. We need to know.”
“I’m not sure, but you still have your chances. If she makes it out alive.” Idris answered as much as he needed to.
“I’m going to chop his head off.” Sarco closes his eyes, holding his anger in.
“This isn’t fair. I’m going to kill myself.” Saine grabs a fist of his own hair. He’s very devastated.
“Let’s just hope she makes it first.”
—
“Baby… you need me?” Jusarlie almost lost his self-control when he was being summoned at Iolana’s room.
“Jusarlie, if you drink some of my blood. Wouldn’t my menstrual cycle end faster?” Iolana asked a very difficult question right now since Jusarlie can’t think straight.
“Oh, baby… should we try?” Jusarlie voice got deeper. Iolana could see his eyes darkened at her words earlier.
“Let me make sure of something first.” Iolana smirks back at him. How brave. Jusarlie raised an eyebrow, what could she possibly do?
“Kneel.” Iolana stares right into his eyes.
Jusarlie suddenly lost control of his own body. He kneeled in front of Iolana. He doesn’t even know what is going on right now.
Iolana giggled, “I was right. Let’s try it, Jusarlie. I hate my menstrual cycle.” She shamelessly lifts her night gown and slides her panties down with that pair of innocent eyes staring at Jusarlie.
Jusarlie? Still kneeling. He’s drooling now. This girl is so fucking dangerous.
“Come and get it, Jusarlie.”
He doesn’t have to be told twice, Jusarlie quickly positioned himself between Iolana’s thighs. He inhales deeply. “God, Iolana, you smell so good.”
Iolana squirmed under his touch, she held her whimper.
“Thank you for the meal.” Jusarlie didn’t waste any second to finally lick her bloody folds down. It was the most delicious blood he had ever tasted. He is becoming more passionate as he sucks her clit, trying his best not to bite her.
Iolana is a total mess, she couldn’t contain her moans anymore. Her hips moving up and down, all because of Jusarlie’s talented tongue. And he doesn’t plan to stop. He licks her like a kitten, her blood is intoxicating.
Jusarlie swirls his tongue inside her, making her cry out a whimper. One of his hands naturally reaches up to lifts her night gown higher. Once he found her breast, he fondles with them with both of his hands, pinching her nipples slowly and plays with them like a toy.
The pleasure from her core and her breasts is enough to make Iolana breaks, “J-Jusarlie… fuck… it feels so good.” Iolana’s breathy voice makes Jusarlie’s cock twitch.
“Don’t say it like that, you’re making me hard to control myself.” Jusarlie opens his eyes and stare at Iolana fucked up face. She is so fucking beautiful. He would not share this with others. Iolana should be his and his alone. He sucks at her pretty pussy until there’s no blood left coming from her vagina. It was the most delicious meal he ever had.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to be your host vamp?” Jusarlie climbs up while caressing her body, teasing her. Her jolts stroke his ego for sure.
“No, not yet. I haven’t decided.” Iolana is sweaty, out of breath, after Jusarlie devoured her pussy.
“I don’t want to share you.” Jusarlie holds her face gently.
“That’s your problem.” Iolana smirks again. “We’ll see if this method works tomorrow.”
“You’re cruel.”
“Never said I’m not.” Iolana makes him sit by pushing him while she raises her body to sit as well. “Now, you get out like the way you enter this room.”
And just like that, Jusarlie is gone in the blink of an eye. Iolana is very satisfied with the power she currently holds right now.
—
Jusarlie is back in the living room. His smile never leaves his face. He licks the remaining blood on the tip of his lips, unaware of the eyes that stare at him like he just did something really bad.
“What the fuck did you just do with her?” Jestel holds his collar.
“None of your business.”
“Tell me she’s alive.”
“Oh, she’s alive! Breathing normally, body temperature is normal for human, heartbeat normal, and… well pleasured.” Jusarlie giggled at himself.
“Did you fucking touch her?” Sarco’s blood boils.
“She asked me to. Not to brag about it or anything—”
A thud makes the whole room shocked. Saine just punched Jusarlie in the face.
“Don’t say any word about it.” Saine looks insane. He completely loses his mind. What the hell did he do wrong? Jusarlie is not better than him. Why did Iolana choose Jusarlie instead of him?
Jusarlie laughed like a maniac. “Just know that the sweet scent did not lie.”
Jestel, Saine, and Sarco stare down at him. Full of hatred. Full of jealousy. What makes the feeling worse is they can’t do anything about it.
In the very same room, Idris, Jasper, and Wilhelmina know that the future is going to be more complicated than they anticipated. As if the four of them being insane isn’t enough, Iolana chose the crazy path as well.

PROLOGUE: SURPRISE GUEST
“What is our feast for today?” Ricardo stares at the ceiling with boredom, waiting for dinner time, or hunting time—if I asked him to hunt today.
“What do you want to eat?” I asked all of them.
“Stray human.” Jasper answered easily.
“Well, unfortunately, they’re very rare. Almost never encountered, to be honest. They can only reach our kingdom if we brought them in, or they’re really really lost their way. It’s almost impossible to enter our borders.” Jusarlie sighed. Fake sigh.
“You’re learning how to breathe now?” Sarco laughed at Jusarlie’s attempt to fake breathing.
“I was bored, so I learnt how to do it.” Jusarlie answered sheepishly.
“It’s unnatural, try it again slowly.” Jasper guides him.
Jasper is a new member in our kingdom. He’s a new vampire that we found in the wood while we were doing a monthly patrol, we have no clue who turned him as one of our kind, so irresponsible of them. Jasper could’ve turned into a wild vampire and that’s not fun to handle. He was starving, lost his memory, and definitely very angry. Unfortunately for us, he is also very strong. It was a bit handy when we rescued him, but we named him Jasper afterward because it suits his face.
Well, he is now under our training. Good for my nation, since we’ve lost a lot of important people during the Red War, including both of my parents. So, to our advantage, Jasper is a really good start for us to build stronger soldiers.
Besides from the fact that he is a new vamp and his energy is over the limit, I’m pretty sure he’s already strong as a human. We’re all a little worn-out while training him, they always hand over Jasper to me and Hiael when they’re tired. With that strong gaze, I’m pretty sure he’s important to humankind. I wonder how they felt when Jasper disappeared.
“I want reindeer.” Saine finally speaks up.
“Reindeer sounds good.” Hiael nodded.
“We’re hunting after dusk.” I agreed with their request.
“Jestel, is that what I think it is?” Sarco stares down at the street, a bit far from us. I walked over to his spot and peeked at the big window.
There’s a human. Walking on the street like a lamb whose willingly walks into a wolf’s nest. Poor little baby.
“She smells unbelievably good. Is that normal? All humans smell like this?” Jasper asked.
To be honest, he’s not alone. My head is also spinning due to her smell. This is far from normal.
“I’ll pick up our dinner.” Saine looks so excited. He’s the best at deceiving people, no matter humans or vampires.
“Take me with you!” Ricardo is as excited.
“No, take me with you instead!” Even Jusarlie’s eyes are sparkling right now.
“Me!”
“No, you will instantly eat that human at the sight.” Jusarlie can totally read Ricardo’s behavior.
“Just because you love to read, doesn’t mean you can read my personality or behavior.” There you go, our youngest is kind of… bitter.
“Take note from your professor, will you? Read your books so that little undeveloped brain of yours could develop and work normally.” Jusarlie spat back. Oh, don’t worry, this is a normal fight in our house.
“Come again, Professor?” Ricardo scoffed.
“Maybe if YOU read your goddamn books, your little UNDEVELOPED brain could develop and work normally.”
“That’s enough, no one is coming with Saine.” I stopped their little argument.
They scoffed, totally annoyed at my choice. Saine nodded at me and quickly left to pick up our delicious dinner.
“Don’t give me those expressions. You’ll choose your favorite parts today.” I said without staring back at them who are giving me angry and sulky expressions.
Their eyes are sparkling again as they go back to excited mode. What a child.
The delicious, sweet, intoxicating, and irresistible smell is getting closer and closer as we wait in our living room. I saw Jasper was getting furious. Hiael is right next to him, ready to hold him down whenever needed.
“Hold it in, Jasper. Don’t let hunger wins over you.” I said to that poor new vamp. Must be hard for him to do that. He’s better than me, if I was a new vampire like him, I would’ve just run off to that human and sucks her dry. Huge respect for Jasper.
I can hear Saine opening the doors. Oh, we were so ready to strike until I saw Saine enter the house before the human does. It’s supposed to be the other way around. That’s odd. What happened? Does he not want to eat that human anymore?
I told everyone to hold their positions while I’m trying to reach Saine through our mind links.
Our dinner is clumsy enough to almost fall because her little foot tripped over our carpet. Luckily, Saine holds her steady, so she doesn’t bleed. Won’t be my fault if Jasper strikes at sight.
“Are you okay?” Saine giggles. Oh, interesting! I can’t contact him at all.
“All good, thank you.” She sounds a little nervous.
They entered the living room and the six of us were so ready to eat, but Saine quickly stopped us using mind links.
DO NOT, I SAY, DON’T YOU DARE! LET ME TALK TO JESTEL FIRST! Wow, he sounds very serious.
“Jestel, we need to talk.” Saine is smiling.
“About what?” I asked coldly.
“555.” He said the emergency code. How emergency is this?
“Alright,” I agreed. “Sarco, follow me. Ricardo and Hiael, you take care of Jasper. While Jusarlie… be polite to our guest.”
I hate you, Jusarlie said it through our mind links.
They followed my orders. Saine, Sarco, and I went upstairs to the closest working room for this emergency matter.
What could possibly happen?
“You’ve been acting odd. What is the matter?” I asked Saine.
“This letter will explain better than I do.” Saine gave me a letter. To my surprise, it was written in our ancient language. Old Krashovien.
I read the letter thoroughly with Sarco.
“She came with this letter?” I asked Saine again.
He nods quickly.
“I want to hear your opinions according to this matter.” I wait for them to speak up.
“Turn her to a vampire, duh? She’s the last Sterling. We need her.” Sarco, as usual, is a man of logic.
“No, no, no. Let’s train her first. Give her some free will, no?” Saine is a little opposed to that idea.
“The sooner the better, Saine. Human age so rapidly, we can’t lose a chance to have a Sterling for our nation.” Sarco frowned.
“Give her some time, Sarco, you heartless bastard. She just went through a lot.” Saine is showing his sympathy to her.
“Wake up, Saine. Just because she’s beautiful, don’t forgot the fact that she’s a Sterling, Saine. A fucking Sterling, she’s anything but a feeler. She’s far more heartless than I am.”
“It’s risky! Do you remember why Sterling left Krashoviel?” Saine still stands on his ground.
“She’s that child?” I joined the conversation again. Could it be?
“My father warned you, Jestel.” Saine said to me. “At least, let’s ask him first.”
“Fine. Let’s train her to our best, gain her trust, and finally turn her into a vampire. Done.” Sarco’s idea is still about turning her into one of our kind.
This is very confusing.
I called the others—except Jusarlie—to join us in our emergency meeting.
I looked at them with a heavy heart. “We’re haunting today. We will not eat our guest.”
“Oh, man!” Ricardo and Jasper are clearly annoyed.
“May I know why?” Hiael asked.
“Well,” I paused and showed them the letter. “Ricardo, translate it for us.”
“Dear, King/Queen on the throne of Sinflame. I, Tearle Sterling, gave this girl to your hand. She is my daughter, Iolana Sterling, the one that caused some trouble twenty-one years ago due to her sweet smell. By the time you read this, it means that all of Sterling is already gone and she’s the last one we have. Slevado and Axadel have been terrorized and tried to kidnap us a few times. Iolana is smart, she knows the basic history of Krashoviel. She speaks Old Krashovien. She is curious, keen to learn something new. She is also good at fighting with any kind of weapons, I teach her by myself. I left this girl to Krashoviel, you can do whatever you’d like to her. I’d rather have her end up as your feast than to be kidnapped and used as a weapon to tear Krashoviel apart. I miss my home. Sincerely, Tearle Sterling.”
“Who’s Sterling?” Jasper frowned.
“Unlock that at 3rd semester with Jusarlie.” Sarco giggled.
“They’re not some urban legend?” Ricardo is surprisingly dumb.
“Urban legend is crazy.” Hiael laughed at him. “One Sterling equals five Jestel.”
“Nice one, Hiael.” Jasper and the youngest laughed.
“He’s not joking.” Sarco’s serious face made their laughs disappear.
“Oh.” Jasper and Ricardo are kind of scared now.
“But she’s a human?” Jasper is still confused.
“Long story, ask Jusarlie later.” Sarco shook his head.
“So, we’re turning her into a new vamp? Who’s strong enough to be her host vamp? I’m not.” Hiael quickly retreats after his own question.
Every new vampire needs a host vamp. They need their host’s blood to be able to feel full. If not, they can be a little destructive and drink a lot of blood than a usual vampire. Just like Jasper. He needs five big bottles a day, while we only need two or three maximum, and no! It is not a small matter, they crave human blood almost all the time as well.
“Not me.” Ricardo shook his head too. “She smells so sweet it’s very sickening. Jusarlie is better than me.”
“He’s still talking with the girl?” Sarco asked curiously.
“They’re sitting next to each other!” Jasper couldn’t believe it too.
“We haven’t decided yet.” I answered honestly. “Her host vamp.”
“So… we’re going to train her first?” Hiael asked us confusedly.
“Yes.” Saine nodded. “We’ll see later, maybe she will also choose a host along the way.”
“It’s settled then.” I nod and stand up. “Hiael, Jasper, Ricardo, Sarco, you’re in charge of hunting. Fetch us a healthy delicious reindeer. Jasper, do you still remember how human food taste?”
“I don’t know?” Jasper is confused. Doesn’t matter, I’m pretty sure he still remembers.
“Great, you’re going to oversee the food. You can guide and order around our chefs and maids about the food for our special guest.”
Jasper nods hesitantly.
“Dismiss.” They obey my orders and quickly move to do as told. I went downstairs again with Saine.
“Apologize for making you wait.” I smile at our guest, Sarco is right. She’s beautiful. I offer my hand to shake hers, “Jestel Sinflame.”
“I should be the one who’s apologizing, Mr. Sinflame.” She smiles back at me, her eyes are smiling too. She shakes my hand, “Iolana Sterling.”

CHAPTER II: ‘PERSONALITY’ TEST
“Can I come with you?” Sarco asked Jestel who’s ready to go to Idris with Jusarlie, Saine, and of course, Iolana.
“No, you have to teach today.” Jestel knows Sarco’s schedule.
“But they have to teach too?!” Sarco pointed at Jusarlie and Saine with his chin.
“They have substitutes. You don’t.” Jestel shortly ended it.
“Ricardo can—”
“Ricardo is still one of your students, Sarco.”
“Ugh! You’re annoying.” Sarco unexpectedly sulks.
“Isn’t our bet about Jusarlie? Why is Sarco becoming grumpier than him?” Saine chuckled.
“He’s very nosy.” Jestel shook his head. “Let’s go.”
They headed to Cairneye’s Mansion. Jestel had contacted Idris beforehand, saying that they would show up with a surprise guest. Cairneye’s Mansion is beautiful. It has a wide yard, beautifully decorated with flowers, bushes, fountain, and some statues. They head straight to Idris’s workshop that usually opens every day for people who need guidance. He made an exception today, because he’s feeling like he’s going to be exhausted after Jestel’s visit.
Stepping into the workshop, Iolana can’t help but observe her surroundings. The workshop gives her a cozy feeling. Warm lights, a tall armchair, some books that were left open on the desk, potions, herbs’ scent, incense that is burning in some spots, ritual candles. It’s just very homey. Judging by his workshop, Iolana has a feeling that Idris is a warm person.
“Papa, where are you?” Saine calls to his father.
Iolana continues to observe her surroundings again. She found a table full of framed pictures. Her eyes are staring at a picture of Saine and a guy, they’re smiling so sweetly with their eyes too. Saine is holding some flowers, Iolana assumed they’re canterbury bells based on how they look.
“I always have a panic attack whenever I heard you looking for me, Saine.” Saine’s father suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
“Can you stop scaring us, Uncle?” Jusarlie scoffed.
“Keep hating your own son and see where it’ll take you! Ugh!” Saine scoffed as well. Idris is such a cute silly man.
“It’s fun.” The said man smiles, his eyes are smiling too, looks like Saine got it from him. “Oh, hi! A girl. Human even. A sweet scented one.”
“Hi.” Iolana said shyly. Idris is incredibly handsome. His fashion taste is no match too. An elegant white top with black trousers, and even the touch of a man’s corset on his waist, or more like a wide belt? Iolana doesn’t know. Is it the outfit or his face? Iolana doesn’t know that either. Cairneye are so blessed, that’s the only thing that she knows. Best physical appearance combined with predicting future skill? Iolana immediately feels the need to have whatever they have. What a strong gene.
“Do a full test on her.” Jestel orders the older man around.
“Your name, Child?” Idris asked Iolana softly.
“Iolana Sterling.” Iolana is still shy.
“Holy Amadeus!” Idris is definitely surprised. “Welcome back!”
“Thank you…” The shier she gets, the more she hides behind Jusarlie. Jusarlie found it adorable, he feels warm because Iolana is already comfortable enough to seek for his protection.
“Alright, let’s see what you’ve got.” Idris nods and prepare his bowl.
“Papa, let’s use the pool.” Saine told his father. More like a warning, to be frank.
“Oh.” Idris immediately knew what his son meant. “Excuse me for asking this, but are you perhaps the last Sterling alive right now, Iolana?”
Iolana nods, “That’s correct.”
“Well, the pool it is!” Idris listened to his son and brought some bottles of potion with him. His feeling was right, he will be exhausted today.
They walked together to the pool, Idris took off his shoes and socks, then sat by the pool.
“Sit next to me, Iolana.” Idris told her with a smile on his face. How could she say no?
She took off her own shoes and socks. Saine, Jestel, and Jusarlie immediately looked away. 1700s is so funny. When she sits next to Idris, they’re looking at the pool again. Flustered.
“Have you… take off your socks?” Saine is confused. Under the dim light, Iolana looks like she’s still wearing her socks.
“She’s just almost as pale as Sarco and you, Saine.” Idris chuckled.
“Oh, I’m so sorry.” Saine is flustered again.
“Now, Iolana. Shall we begin?” Idris looks at Iolana again.
Iolana nods calmly, showing that she’s ready.
Idris begins the ritual. He poured two bottles of his potions into the pool. He touched the pool and stirred the water to the right. “Could you tell us what you see?”
“A dining table?” Iolana is confused.
“Can you tell us what’s on that table?”
“Five empty plates and one apple in the middle of the table.” Iolana explained.
“Five? Wow! Do you see any marks on the empty plates?” Idris asked again.
“Yes. Lion, snowflake, cat, sun, and a broken crown?” Iolana is so confused.
Oh, the four of them hit the mind links together.
Idris stirs the water to his right again. “Now, what do you see?”
“The apple cut in half. It’s flying over the plates, it looks confused.”
Idris laughs. It is indeed funny. He stirs the water again, “How about now?”
“It’s changing every second, I don’t know.” Iolana frowned.
“Do you want to explain it to us?”
“One second, it’s on the snowflake plate and the cat. Next second, the snowflake and the sun.”
“Ah! Does the apple have one frequent destination?”
“I don’t think so, the apple is really confused.”
Idris laughs again. “You’re adorable.” He stirs the water again.
Iolana doesn’t have to be told this time. “I see five love letters.”
“Okay, I can understand now. How about now?” Idris stirs the water to the right again.
“I see Saine crying.” Iolana still looks confused.
“Do you know why?” Idris is kind of surprised.
“I lied, it’s actually Jestel.” Iolana giggled. She’s in a goofy mood.
The four of them are dumbfounded. The last time Idris successfully lied to was when they were having pioneers’ dinner, and the very person who lied to him was Tearle Sterling. Yes, Iolana’s father himself.
“Why am I crying?” The said person is as confused.
“I’m not sure, you look very… devastated?” Iolana is concerned.
“That’s odd!” Idris stirs the water again.
“There’s a throne.” Iolana answered.
“Who sits on it?” Idris asked.
Iolana remains silent.
“Iolana? It’s okay, you can say it.” Jestel said softly.
Can’t you read her mind? Jusarlie asked Idris through mind links.
I swear on Roberto Cairneye, I can’t read this little girl at all, Idris answered.
“It’s Jestel.” Iolana finally answered. “…or me.”
They’re definitely surprised by that.
“And that’s also my omen of Sterling.” Idris giggled. “What a coincidence, right?”
“It’s just a possibility, right? I would never do that to Jestel.” Iolana is worried about her own future.
“Yes! Don’t worry, Iolana.” Idris’ smile is so reassuring. He stirs the water again. “Do you see something?”
“Few things. Sword, crown, herbs, map, books, potions.”
Saine’s jaw dropped at that one. Idris just nods, not wanting Iolana to feel uncomfortable.
“Before I explain your results, let me talk with Jestel first. Are you okay with that, Iolana?” Idris asked her.
Iolana nods at the question, “Can I wear my shoes back?”
“Of course, Iolana.” Idris chuckled, he dried his feet with a spell and put his shoes back. “Let’s go, Jestel.”
Iolana gets her feet out of the water, Jusarlie and Saine immediately look away again.
“Hey, Saine. Could you do the spell that your father just casted for himself?” Iolana asked at Saine.
“Is it okay for you—you know…” If Saine is a human, he’s blushing pink right now.
“Yeah, of course!”
“Excuse me, Iolana.” Saine said before looking towards Iolana. He swings his hand above Iolana’s bare feet while casting the spell.
“Wow, you should teach me that!” Iolana is amazed. “Thank you, Saine.”
“N-no problem.” Saine looks away again.
“Just to let you know, it’s okay to look at me. I grew up being okay with my feet on display at home.”
“It’s just… we feel like a pervert…” Saine admitted.
“I wonder what’s the limit of dressing here in Krashoviel.” Iolana laughed. “I’m done. You are safe to look.”
Jusarlie and Saine hesitantly look toward Iolana again. They feel relieved when her feet are fully covered with her long skirt and shoes again.
“The girls are usually covering their feet, that’s why we act that way earlier.” Jusarlie explained.
“I want to be controversial and show my ankle to the streets.” Iolana giggled.
“No, no, no!” Jusarlie and Saine panicked. “Arms are okay, but ankle? Wow, that’s pornographic.”
“That’s confusing.” Iolana nods. “What about chest area? How far can the neckline go?”
“Chest area is okay, as long as the breasts are not like… full on display? Ankles, however, is a big no.” Saine explained. “I feel like invading your privacy earlier when casting that spell.”
Iolana laughed. Krashoviel is so funny for her, when it’s just her who doesn’t even leave her house before going to Krashoviel. She’s lucky she’s easy-going and pretty.
“Drink this, don’t you feel tired?” Saine hands her a glass of questionable drink.
“Not really.” Iolana accepts the glass. “Oh, what is this?”
She smelled the drink, and it smelled like strawberry! She drinks it without hesitation until the last drop. “I like it! What is this? Strawberry juice?”
Curiosity kills the cat!
“Our bloods.” Saine grins.
“Oh?” Iolana is concerned. “What would that do? Whose blood?”
“Three of us. It can give you strength! And you can summon us anytime you want when you need it. You can also talk to us through telepathy.” Saine explained excitedly.
“Summon you? How?” Iolana is interested in this.
“Just say our name and say you need us. For example, Jusarlie I need you.” Jusarlie explained further.
“Oh! I get it.” Iolana nods. “But why? Isn’t that… personal? Don’t you think I need to gain your trusts first?”
“You already did.”
It feels too fast for Iolana, but she accepts it as it is. She’s grateful that they care about her a lot, but are they?
—
“Jestel, that was the most entertaining reading that I ever did. I thanked you for that.” Idris is giggling non-stop.
“Elaborate, please.” Jestel is frustrated.
“You will fight your best friends.” Idris started off so strong. “You, Saine, Jusarlie, Sarco, and Hiael.”
“Why?” Jestel asked, still oblivious.
“You’re going to fall in love with Iolana. All of you.” Idris stated. “Some of you already did, I checked my son and he’s already blooming for her.”
“That doesn’t make any sense.” Jestel shook his head.
“Love never makes any sense, Jestel.” One thing about Idris is that he hits hard with his words, accidentally or not. “Especially the throne for her vamp host. You’re going to fight really dirty for that. I can see it.”
“Nonsense.” Jestel scoffed.
“I won’t help you if you cry someday.” Idris threatened him. Scares him for sure, where will Jestel run to for advice if not Idris?
“What should I do about this?” Jestel is stressed out.
“Accept it.” Idris calmly told him.
“What can I do to make her choose me?”
“That remains a mystery.” Idris doesn’t know either. “I’m more surprised you’re not bringing up anything about the throne. You already fell for her, don’t you?”
“No. I just trust her.” Jestel explained himself.
“You gave her your blood, along with Saine and Jusarlie.” Idris points that out.
“She’s a human, Idris. I just want to protect her.”
“Sure, sure. Protect her. When we all know it’s special and intimate.” Idris mocked him.
“It’s not that intimate.”
“Imagine she chose Sarco as her vamp host.” Idris immediately puts a scenario.
“Fine, it is intimate.”
“Best of luck, Jestel.” Idris taps his shoulder a few times. “It’s going to be anything but easy.”
“She’s not capable of wiping out the whole Sinflame, right? She’s lovely, she would never do that.” Jestel asked Idris for reassurance.
“Not yet. However, if I was you… I would never get on her wrong side. She’s a complicated girl.”
—
“Your father is so majestic.” Iolana admitted. Truly smitten by Saine’s father.
“You think I’m ugly?” Saine acts like he has been hurt.
“I never said that.” Iolana is still giggling over Idris.
“Don’t feed his ego, Iolana.” Jusarlie scoffed.
“Get over it, Jusarlie. She thinks I’m handsome.” Saine is being cocky right now.
“Your father reminds me of a pine tree.” Iolana sudden words silenced them.
Jusarlie and Saine is so confused. There’s no way she just said that like it’s a normal thing to do.
“I can’t believe we lose you to Sarco’s species.” Saine faked a sigh.
“Species is insane.” Jusarlie laughs. “Why a pine tree?”
“Tall, look good, calming, I don’t know? He reminds me of it.”
“Bloody hell, she really is a Sarco’s species.” Jusarlie couldn’t believe it.
“Why Sarco?” Iolana is curious.
“He’s odd. Just like you. I don’t mean it in a bad way, it’s creative. Sometimes we just… don’t understand.” Saine explained. “He did that a lot, saying I look like the lamp near south’s stairs and so on.”
“You should show me the lamp later.” Iolana is invested now.
“Hey, small question, but if you don’t want to answer it’s fine. What happened to your hair? Did you get punished?” Jusarlie suddenly hits Iolana with a personal and nosy question.
Iolana expects this with her a little bit over the shoulder-length hair. It is unusual for a girl to have hair that short, at least in their era.
“Well, it was an accident. It got cut by my brother when we were practicing sword, so my mom cut it all to this length.” Iolana explained. “I’m waiting for it to be long again. It’s troublesome, I can’t tie it properly, yet it’s annoying enough to be left undone like this.”
Jusarlie and Saine nod in unison.
Idris and Jestel went back to the pool area. Jestel looks stressed, while Idris looks happy. What a weird combination.
“Iolana, do you mind if I ask you to lend us your power?” Idris asked.
“Huh? I have power?” Iolana is confused again.
“Bigger than you think.” Idris giggled. “We are also testing it out.”
“Sure, if it’s for a good reason…” Iolana is totally unsure.
“We are going to search for Jestel’s long lost brother, Holstein.” Idris explained briefly.
“But I don’t know what he looks like?” Iolana is still questioning him.
“You will, if you succeed.” Idris smiles warmly. “Would you do it?”
Iolana nods after a few seconds of hesitation. She sits between Idris and Jestel, making half of a circle.
“Saine, Jusarlie, let’s go.” Idris points at the empty seats.
“You need us as well?” Jusarlie questioned but obeyed.
“You were just doing nothing, so why not?” Idris is an entertaining man for sure.
They held each other’s hands. For the first time ever, Jestel could understand what the romance books were talking about. The electricity and the butterflies, he feels them now.
“I seek upon Holstein Sinflame whereabouts,” as Idris said those words, there is a big cloud forming over Cairneye’s mansion. Thunder begins to growl, lightning begins to show.
They close their eyes, focusing on the name Holstein Sinflame.
They begin to see a vision. A palace, but not Krashiovel’s palace.
“Whose vision is this?” Jestel asked.
“Iolana.” Idris answered.
“Have you found the girl?” Holstein asked them.
“She killed herself along with her father, Your Highness.”
“Did you see her face? Is it really her?” Holstein asked again.
“No, but there is no way she could run away. We’ve blocked all the access.”
“Tearle is the smartest vampire that I’ve ever met. She could be in Krashoviel now with my stupid brother.” The Prince of Slevado is furious.
“That would be the same as suicide, her blood smells so fucking sweet.” Holstein chuckled. “Where is she?”
“Holstein, you must come back to Krashoviel and fetch that girl.”
“Unnecessary, I think she’s gone.”
The vision turns black again, the clouds are nowhere to be found, the thunder is no longer roaring.
“Wow, he’s a traitor.” Saine couldn’t believe what he just saw.
Idris was the only one laughing, he couldn’t contain it. “It’s so funny, you’re swapping brothers.”
Iolana holds back her giggle, she doesn’t want to be rude.
“Thank you, Iolana.” Idris has stopped laughing. “We wouldn’t make it without you, we’ve tried for hundred years to get a vision of Holstein.”
“I didn’t do that much, I’m glad I could help.” Iolana is still oblivious about her real power, buried deep down under that human form.
“Here’s your test result, make sure you read it alone without them lurking.” Idris intentionally whispered loudly.
“I will lurk.” Saine smiles.
“Have some class.” Idris faked a sigh.
“We’ll head out, Idris. Thank you for your service.” Jestel stood up, the others followed.
“Bye, Papa.” Saine waves at his father.
“Don’t come back.”
“You see? He’s not as handsome as you think, Iolana.” Saine used that as a way to show her his father’s teasing habit.
“Forgivable if he has that elf type of face.” Iolana giggled.
“Aw, you flustered me.” Idris chuckled at Iolana. She has a sense of humor too!
“Let’s go.” Jestel is not having it. Well, at least now he knows that he truly fell for her.
—
Saine is being told to look after Iolana while the others held emergency meeting for the third time today, of course he enjoys this! They’re currently putting Iolana’s clothes into the wardrobe.
“I think you have good eyes for apparels. I want your wardrobe.” Saine adores Iolana’s taste in fashion. “Ah, the trousers! Where did you get these?”
“Come on, Saine. Those are just my casual and practice clothes. I got it from my human maids.” Iolana chuckled. “I love my pretty dresses, but I barely get to wear it.”
“You will wear it more often now, there are so many events that we usually have to attend.” Saine informed her. “Ah, you don’t have any ball gowns! Do you want to go to Charson? You’ll need some gowns for royal ball and Jestel’s birthday.”
“Is it far?” Iolana asked.
“Not really, but we need to cover your scent.” Saine chuckled. “I’ll put some spell on you. It could last for two hours, at least.”
—
“Don’t play with me, Jestel. What do you mean Holstein is a traitor?” Sarco shook his head.
“That’s what we saw.” Jusarllie admitted.
“They must’ve brainwashed our Holstein,” Odelia, the queen on the throne, scoffed. Clearly annoyed.
“Hiael betrayed his nation by his own will, it is not an impossibility if Holstein ever do the same.” Idris shrugged his shoulder. “However, this Sterling girl…”
“What Sterling girl?” Raphael, the queen’s brother, is shocked.
“She came with this letter.” Jestel gave them the letter that Tearle wrote.
“She’s back? Here? In Krashoviel?” Sullivan, the queen’s father, is puzzled.
“She could end your bloodline.” Idris said without any burden.
“I’d rather be dead than to fight back, it’s no use.” Sullivan chuckled. “Oh, Sterling.”
“Are Sterling that dangerous?” Wilhelmina, Jestel’s niece, is too young to watch how frightening Sterling can be back then in the war field.
“I’m really scared of them, take that information as you wish.” Sullivan said to his great-granddaughter.
“Oh!” Wilhelmina is surprised. “Is she beautiful?”
“Very.” Jestel answered. “I would do anything for her.”
“In front of your queen aunt is just insane, Jestel.” Idris laughed at his son.
“I don’t blame him.” Jusarlie stands with him.
“They fell for her charm,” Sarco scoffed. “I would ne—”
“Careful, now.” Idris warned Sarco. “You will fall for her too. I saw it.”
“Who else?” Odelia asked her son.
“Saine and Hiael. The five of them will fight to be her vamp host.” Idris informed them.
“This is ridiculous, let’s just kill that girl.” Raphael is furious. “She will tear us apart.”
“If Sinflame is no longer worthy of the throne, then just let it be.” Odelia is calmer than the others.
“What on earth are you saying, Odelia?” Raphael is getting more furious. What an old grumpy man.
“Grandma Odelia is not wrong.” Wilhelmina is against his father.
“Father, look at this—” Raphael seeks Sullivan’s support.
“I’m not going to say anything.” Sullivan is busy cleaning each of his gemstones.
“That girl won’t do it by herself, right? Who are the potential traitors?” Raphael asked Idris.
“Have you ever done a friendly practice with Tearle?” Idris questioned him back.
“No, why?”
“Then you are not in the place to say that.” Sullivan makes it clear. “One Sullivan equals five Sinflame. Train her as hard as you can, give her the best facility, and don’t you dare to let other nations have her.”
“Yes, Grandpa.” Jestel nods.
“When will you sit on the throne, Jestel?” Odelia asked, she’s tired of the kingdom’s bullshits.
“As soon as possible, I’m still preparing myself.” Jestel feels a heavy weight on his shoulders. He can’t control his feelings toward Iolana, that is what bothers him the most right now.
—
“Mr. Cairneye! Oh, my vamp, close the shop!” The receptionist panicked when he saw Saine smiling at him.
The workers immediately temporarily close the shop, the other guests who are waiting outside are getting used to it now. Must be one of the pioneers making some sudden appearance.
“How can we help you, Your Highness?” The shop workers are ready to serve him.
“I’d like some ball gowns for this cute little girl.” Saine pushed Iolana slightly.
“Of course, we’ll measure her.” Two of the workers quickly measured Iolana, while the others asked Saine about the gown’s details.
“What’s your favorite color, Iolana?” Saine questioned her. “You can name five.”
“White and pink. As for the others, I’ll leave it to you. I trust you.” Iolana is never failed to make Saine feels so… flustered.
“White, pink, blue, red, and purple.” Saine told the worker.
“Which shade, Your Highness?”
“Actually… make it six. White, violet, navy, sky blue, maroon, and pink. Maybe a bold pink like this one? Iolana, do you like it?” Saine asked her again.
“Loves it.” Iolana stares adoringly at the color that Saine just showed her. It’s almost fuchsia, just a little less bold.
“Pardon me, Your Highness. She looks unfamiliar to me, is she a new citizen? I’ve never seen her before.” Jeremy asked Saine, trying to be as polite as possible.
“Yes, she is. She’s Iolana Sterling, Jeremy.”
“S-Sterling, Your Highness?”
“She has a perfect body proportion.” One of the measurement workers said to the other.
“Thank you.” Iolana whispered to them.
“We apologize, we didn’t mean to…”
“It’s okay. I love your compliment. You’re being genuine.” Iolana smiles. “I’m done, Saine.”
She walked to Saine as he smiled at her proudly.
“Payment should be here by tomorrow morning. Thank you for your service, Jeremy.” Saine informed the owner of that grand boutique.
“Always happy to be at your service, Your Highness and Lady Sterling. Thank you for trusting us.” The workers and Jeremy bow a little to show their respect and devotion towards the pioneers.
They walked out of Charson and went home instantly. After they got back to Iolana’s room, Saine seemed confused.
“Are you not going to ask anything about them referring me as… you know?”
“Jusarlie told me about the royal family’s tree. I was a little surprised, I’m so sorry I interacted with you so casually.” Iolana admitted, feeling a little guilty.
“No, no! Keep being casual, we’re equal.” Saine quickly reassured her. “No one dares to challenge a Sterling, not even the oldest Sinflame alive. You’re still a part of the pioneers.”
Pioneers.
It sounds incredibly weird for Iolana, but deep down in her heart… it feels just right.

CHAPTER III: ODD GIRL
Iolana slept like a baby after yesterday. That was such a long day. She’s still deep in her sleep when the vampires are arguing about humans’ eating needs.
“At least, we should give her breakfast! Let’s wake her up!” Jusarlie is worried. Being the most knowledgeable person in that room was hard.
“Let her rest, Jusarlie. She had a long day.” Hiael scoffed.
“Exactly why she has to eat!”
“And how are we supposed to wake her up exactly? Isn’t it a bit… I don’t know. We’ll look like perverts.” Ricardo clears his throat.
“Saine saw her feet yesterday. The whole calves.” Jusarlie feels the need to add some drama.
“Really, Jusarlie? Accusing me with false allegations?” Saine scoffed. “Guys, she told me to dry up her feet using my spell after the whole reading.”
“I can’t believe you’re becoming a pervert, Saine. We didn’t expect this from you.” Jestel looks so disappointed, he’s so good at acting.
“No more innocent Saine?” Jasper is joining in as well.
“I’ll tell you what! Her skin is almost as pale as Sarco! She would turn into a porcelain like Sarco if we transformed her into a vampire.”
They gasped in unison.
“Don’t spill it around like that!” Hiael panicked.
“He’s uncontrollable.” Jestel couldn’t believe it too.
“Will her smell be this annoying if she becomes a vampire?” Jasper asked the most important question for himself.
“Only if she bled.”
“Great, one of you turn her into one now. I don’t care about vamp host or anything, I can’t do this.” Jasper is in pure desperation.
“It’s not that simple, Jasper. Biting and drinking blood straight right up… it’s very intimate for us.” Hiael explained as polite as he could.
“It’s like having sexual intercourse.” Jusarlie sums it up.
“Seriously, Jusarlie? After I worded it so politely?”
“Notice who’s the real pervert here?” Saine throws rock back at Jusarlie.
“You and Jusarlie, clearly.” Sarco raised his eyebrows.
“Says you, Sarco! You crazy, possessive, lustful being!” Saine had a vision of how Sarco would act in a relationship. Let’s just say it is not a pleasant view for Saine, he was traumatized for a few months.
“There’s not a single sane braincell in your head, Saine. You should reconsider changing your name into Insaine.” Sarco hits back with his creative words.
“I’m the one with the most normal working brain here, ever heard what the folk towns said about us? Pioneers are everything but right-minded.” Saine who wanders a lot in town just like Ricardo, finally slipped out about the famous saying.
The folk towns are not wrong at all. Pioneers are out of their minds. For example, Sarco and his questionable moralism. Or maybe… Saine, with the dangerous and dark aura covered in a sweet personality of his. And maybe… Jusarlie? He gained the title ‘Psychotic Professor’ because some reasons.
“I’m behaving normal, though? Am I not?” Jestel is confused.
“You’re a Sinflame, it’s already far from normal.” Sarco giggled at his best friend.
“Wait, does biting feel equal to… you know?” Jasper gasped, finally speaking up after processing the whole idea of biting and drinking each other’s blood.
“Yes, married couple usually does it while in the sheets.” Jestel nods at Jasper’s question.
“And he still calls himself normal?” Saine giggled with Sarco.
“What the hell?!” Jasper is still in shock.
“The more you know.” Ricardo giggled. What a funny scene to watch.
While they’re arguing and bickering with each other, Iolana is already awake in her room. She’s already fit. She took a relaxing bath and wore comfortable casual clothes. She took out the letter that Idris gave her yesterday and began to read it carefully.

Deepest desire unknown. Dark secret unknown.
Iolana feels like Idris is a really great clairvoyant. She should get on his good side, no matter what. Iolana has no interest in hiding that letter. She just left it open on her table. Iolana heads out to where the guys are gathering. She doesn’t hear them bickering and arguing about who’s the most pervert for a while now. What are they currently doing?
“Iolana! Do you want some breakfast? We have, uh… bread? Milk? Some eggs?” Jusarlie doesn’t really know about breakfast menu.
“We’ve prepared this for you.” Jasper pulls the chair for Iolana, holding his breath. She glanced at the neatly placed plates and glass. There is bread, egg, and milk. What a brunch.
“Thank you!” Iolana smiles. She took a seat and began to eat. She feels seven pairs of eyes observing her so closely. It’s kind of creepy. “Are you guys not—”
“Nope, we’re good with these.” Jusarlie shows her a glass of wine. Obviously not wine, it’s reindeer’s blood.
“Eating is just a fancy thing for us. We don’t really need it.” Sarco explained.
“How do you usually eat, Iolana? The schedule and menu? I’ll make sure you eat well.” Jestel asked, he looks less intimidating right now. Probably because he didn’t style his blond hair, since 10am is not their active hour after all.
“For breakfast, something similar like this. You did so well.” Iolana complimented them.
“I found a breakfast book in my old shelf, we were supposed to add some bacons as well. Sadly, we ran out. I’m glad you’re enjoying it, Iolana.” Jusarlie smiles, showing his cute fangs.
“You’re all very kind to me. I appreciate it, I’m beyond grateful.” Iolana is truly touched by their kind gestures.
“We want the best for you, Iolana.” Saine replies with a smile.
“You look good in trousers, rare sight to see a girl wearing trousers like that.” Hiael commented. “It was a pure compliment. I’m sorry if I offend you.”
“Thank you for your honest compliment, Hiael. I wear trousers a lot at home.” Iolana explained. Sometimes she forgets that life outside of her living area is very different. First the ankle, now it’s trousers. Society is so funny.
She’s finishing brunch a little faster than usual. Feeling a bit uncomfortable with them observing her. Having seven pairs of vampires’ eyes watching you like that is surely something else.
Saine quickly noticed the slight discomfort in Iolana’s behavior. “Do we really have to take Jusarlie’s class today?”
“Not me, though. Stay mentally healthy, guys.” Ricardo chuckled.
“Enjoy your class.” Sarco also laughed at them.
“Why do you hate me so much?” Jusarlie sighed.
“Your exams are equal to dying slowly.” Hiael scoffed.
“Jasper and Jestel has no hard time doing it, though?” Jusarlie doesn’t want to lose.
“Of course, they’re as mental as you after all.” Saine couldn’t believe his ears. Since when did the standard has to rise just because Jasper and Jestel ace the exam?
“I’m sure Iolana won’t have any bad time with my lectures.” Jusarlie brings Iolana into the discussion.
“Do you prefer reading boring books or fighting, Iolana?” Ricardo asked.
Iolana was unsure about what she had to say. She chose the safe option, “I prefer sleep.”
“She’s just like me.” Jasper giggled. “I love sleeping, they don’t understand.”
“Jasper, we’re vampires. We don’t usually sleep.” Jestel rolls his eyes.
“I’m also a vampire who lost my human memories, yet I still love to sleep. Speaking about, preferences.” Jasper hits him back.
“You oversleep a lot.” Hiael points it out.
“Really? What was your record?” Iolana is curious.
“Fourteen hours.” Jasper admitted proudly.
“Guess mine,” Iolana makes it fun now.
“Twelve?” Jusarlie tried.
“Ten?” Sarco also joined in the guessing game.
“Fifteen maximum.” Jestel is also guessing.
“What was your record?” Jasper asked curiously.
“Twenty.” Iolana said while slightly raising her chin up.
They’re dumbfounded. Is that even normal? Is that healthy for human?
“Are you sure you were sleeping and not like… dying?” Saine is concerned.
“My father thought I was dead, but he checked up on my condition and I was perfectly fine. I was just sleeping! They woke me up after twenty hours, though. I need some food, they said.” Iolana told them the story.
“That’s amazing, we should do a nap competition next time.” Jasper found that very amusing. Someone can sleep for twenty hours. How crazy is that?
“Absolutely not.” Jestel is against that idea. “What if you die?”
“It’s a peaceful sleep, not some crazy stunts like Sarco.” Jasper is still confused. Why they’re so opposed by the idea of sleeping? It’s relaxing.
“I’d rather die fighting than to die sleeping?” Sarco is also confused by Jasper.
“You should try a refreshing nap, for real. It’s so energizing.” Iolana said to them. Siding Jasper.
“Sure, I want to know how energizing it can get me.” Jusarlie agrees.
“Yes, maybe we should try it together.” Jestel nods.
“If you haven’t really picked up, they’re in—” Jasper was cut by Jusarlie and Jestel who held him down. Did they really jump on him? Iolana found that odd.
“Don’t listen to him, Iolana.” Jusarlie smiles at Iolana again.
“Tell me whenever you’re ready to practice your fighting skill.” Sarco suddenly appeared next to Iolana.
“Oh, I’m actually ready. I put on these clothes just in case we’ll practice fighting today.” Iolana smiles.
“Great, then! Let’s go.” Sarco stood up from his seat.
“Shouldn’t you be taking a rest, Iolana?” Saine is clearly worried.
“She’s a Sterling, Saine. Don’t treat her like some ordinary human being.” Sarco is more offended by Saine’s words than Iolana herself.
“I’m fine, Saine. I should exercise to maintain my skill.”
“But—”
“She said she’s good.” Ricardo smugly smiles at Saine.
“Take care of yourself, Iolana.” Saine waves at Iolana who’s ready to practice.
“Thank you, Saine!”
Sarco and Ricardo walk to the basement, Iolana follows behind them. The basement is huge, no doubt about that. Mapping is difficult, it is not for beginners. Iolana wonders what do they use the basement for during the war? Is it to hide the children and women?
“How many floors are there in this basement?” Iolana curiously asked, breaking the silence between her and these tall vampires.
“Just two.” Sarco opened the practice room’s door. “I hope you’re good at mapping. This basement is a pain for newbie.”
“Jasper got lost a few times the first week.” Ricardo explained.
“I’ll just have to follow you then.” Iolana smiles.
“Good choice.”
Sarco observes her head to heels. “You look like you’re good at sword.”
“You can tell?” Iolana is a hundred percent sure that Sarco is a good fighter.
“Your father taught me that.” Sarco smiles. “Well, well, Iolana. What weapon will you test today?”
“Do you have recommendation?”
“How about… all of them?” Sarco stares directly into her eyes.
“Sure.”
“Are the both of you crazy or is it just me?” Ricardo doesn’t like this idea.
Iolana picks up the sword that Sarco handed her. “Is this steel? Or iron?”
“Correct. These are our practice swords for beginners like Ricardo and Jasper.” Sarco nods proudly at Iolana.
“How can you tell the differences?” Ricardo is impressed.
“Slightly heavier. Silver sword is a bit lighter.”
“Fight her, Ricardo. This is also your class.” Sarco throws a sword at Ricardo. “Don’t give her any mercy. You can start.”
Iolana obeyed and calmly waited for Ricardo to strike first.
“I could never—”
“Boring. Iolana, you can start.” Sarco immediately changed the role.
Iolana nods and gets ready to strike.
“Are you sure this is—” Ricardo has no idea of what just happened. His sword is on the sand floor, it just felt like a wind brushed on him. Iolana is gone from his sight. He turns around and sees the girl smiling at him.
“What the fuck?” Ricardo frowned. “Nah, I’m not fighting her.”
Sarco is totally enjoying this. He laughs like he’s never been in a hundred years. “I apologize, that was very entertaining.”
“How is that possible?” Ricardo still can’t figure it out.
“She’s a Sterling, no one believed me that it’s actually a big issue.” Sarco explained.
“Thank you for your credit, Sarco. I appreciate it.” Iolana is being honest.
“Don’t mention it, now your enemy is me.” Sarco is ready to strike with his machetes.
“Holy shit, that’s his favorite weapon! Be careful!” Ricardo quickly runs to the side of the practice field.
“You must’ve played the piano.” Iolana picks up two machetes as well.
“Yes. You have no idea how I really love equal opponents,” Sarco strikes missed. Iolana is terrifyingly fast for a human. Ricardo couldn’t imagine how strong she would be after turning into a vampire.
“I could say the same.” Iolana giggled.
They change their weapon every time one of them loses. It was a neck-to-neck fight. Ricardo is so amazed by both. They’re lying on the sand now. Out of stamina, maybe it’s just Iolana though.
“Pretty sure that was only the twenty percent of your real deal.” Iolana sits and offers his hand to Sarco.
“You’re a tough human, still.” Sarco grabbed her hand and sat as well.
“Me personally, you guys are crazy.” Ricardo shook his head. “Don’t ever fight, please.”
“He’s adorable.” Iolana chuckled at Ricardo’s reaction.
“He is.” Sarco nods. “He turns twenty this year, still can’t believe it sometimes.”
“They found me at the orphanage.” Ricardo began to tell his story to Iolana. “I was… the naughtiest kid ever.”
“Seems like you still are.” Iolana is very honest. “Who hold the adoption certificate, though?”
“No one yet.” Sarco looks down.
“Why?”
“I don’t know. Jestel feels like none of us is ready to adopt him as family, he’s always so controlling to us like that.” Sarco looks genuinely annoyed.
“The day after I become a vampire, you have my promise.” Iolana stares at Ricardo.
“Hey, no pressure! It’s okay, I already thankful enough for this little family.” Ricardo laughed. Hiding his pain.
“No, no. You have my promise. I see your potential, you can be a good Sterling.” Iolana is being real. Ricardo and his careless behavior sound like a good Sterling.
“See, kiddos? A Sterling compliments you.” Sarco smiles at Ricardo. He wants nothing but Ricardo’s happiness. “Wait, Iolana. Have you ever fought empty-handed?”
“Barely, I don’t have the perfect anger to do it.” Iolana sighed. “You caught me there.”
“That’s alright, we’ll find your source of anger together.” Sarco chuckled at her.
Ricardo narrowed his eyes a little. Sarco is never that smiley.
“I’ve tried everything. Asking my dad to boss me around, asking my maids to disorganize my stuffs, asking my mom to scold me. Nothing works! When my brother accidentally cut my hair, I don’t even get angry.”
“So that’s how you got that haircut? How original.” Sarco is impressed. “Have you ever fallen in love?”
“That’s…? No, I guess not.” Iolana tilts her head.
“Maybe your anger could be triggered from love.” Sarco is guessing. “Most people are like that, except Jasper and Jestel. They get angry at everything.”
“Love… how does it feels like?”
“You’ll question your logic when it happens.” Sarco answered shortly. He quickly changed the topic, “Sterling mansion still exists here, if you want to visit your old house. I’ll take you there after dusk.”
“Really?” Iolana’s eyes sparkle.
“They’re still taking a good care of your mansion, those are some loyal maids and butlers.”
“Please, take me!” Iolana’s eyes are still sparkling.
—
The five other vampires are trying to relax in the living room. They can’t, though. Three of them are worrying about Iolana.
“You need to eavesdrop.” Jestel said to Saine. He’s going insane.
“Have some class, you’re a crown prince.” Hiael is calmly reading a book.
Saine tries to eavesdrop. “Oh my—they’re talking about Iolana’s source of anger.”
“Already? Fist fight?” Jasper is shocked.
“I guess so?” Saine is unsure. “They’re talking about love now.”
“Hell no.” Jestel shook his head. “Why are they talking about love?”
“She probably doesn’t have any source of anger.” Jusarlie guessed. “She’s a Sterling after all.”
“Tell me the history of Sterling, please?” Jasper is still so lost.
“I’m glad you asked.” Jusarlie closed his book and smiled widely. “I hope you’re ready for an amazing legendary story.”
—
“Even when you saw them fuckers kill your entire family? No anger?” Sarco is almost giving up.
“Call me heartless, I do want revenge but it’s not that great of a deal because I know I need to be stronger first. I can’t just go to their lair with a human form.” Iolana explained. “My father even calls me a…”
“True Sterling.” Iolana and Sarco said in unison.
“Is that an inside jokes?” Ricardo asked.
Sarco nods, “Tearle often calls me that whenever I act heartless. He even called me ‘more Sterling than a Sterling’ once.”
“Sounds like him.” Iolana giggled.
“It’s really in your nature then? Being heartless?” Ricardo finally gets it now.
“You could say that.” Iolana shrugged her shoulders.
“We have similar backgrounds, if I think about it.” Sarco laughed at the sudden realization. “We lost our family because of Sinflame and Von Ruden unnecessary wars. They’re so dramatic.”
“My father had a theory that Von Ruden is being controlled and manipulated by someone who wants Krashoviel throne.” Ricardo spoke up.
“Idris confirmed it, but they never believe them.” Sarco shrugged his shoulder.
“Holstein.” Iolana dozed off for a second.
“What?”
“Just a guess.”
“Wait a minute…” Sarco connects the dots. “That little piece of dirt!”
“Why?” Ricardo and Iolana are puzzled now.
“He was always acting weird! And after the last war, he fully turned his back against our nation. I have trust issues on Hiael now.” Sarco looks so frustrated.
“Told y’all that Hiael is kind of odd. Maybe if you start believing a kid.” Ricardo rolled his eyes.
“Anyways, mark my words. You’ll fall in love, Iolana. You’ve got seven men living with you.” Sarco suddenly summed it up.
“I don’t know, I had a vision that I will be a crazy lover. I wouldn’t want that to happen to anyone.” Iolana sighed, she truly is something else sometimes. It is hard to handle her, she’s just kind of… out of her mind.
“Would love to see that.” Sarco giggled. Somebody is a little bit eager here.
“Oh?” Ricardo holds his laugh.
“I just can’t see Iolana insanity in love fields, that’s why I’m curious.” Sarco clarified himself.
“Sure! No need to clarify yourself like that.” Ricardo smiles, mocking Sarco.
They ended up talking for hours in that practice room, Sarco felt relieved. He was right about Iolana, she’s much more than meets the eyes. Ricardo felt safe, he has one more person to talk to about his burdens. Iolana truly feels like a sister to him.
Three hours before dinner, Jestel decided to check up on them. “Are you having fun?”
“Never feels better.” Sarco helps Iolana to stand up, while Iolana helps Ricardo next.
“I’m glad you get along very well.” Jestel smiles at Iolana.
“Sarco and Ricardo are amazing, I really enjoy my time with them.” Iolana smiles back.
Something burns inside Jestel, it makes him slightly annoyed. He hid it very well, of course. He doesn’t want to get caught jealous by anyone, let alone Sarco and Ricardo.
“Hey, Jestel.” Iolana makes Jestel turn his head to face her.
“Yes?”
“Do you have any pictures of Holstein?” She asked with hesitation.
“Of course.” Jestel nods. “Do you want to see them?”
“If I may…”
“You are free to ask for anything. Really.” Jestel smiles at her.
Sarco could feel Jestel’s smile on his back. He feels annoyed and he’s not the best at hiding his facial expression.
“Yo, someone’s jealous.” Ricardo whispered at Sarco.
“I’m never jealous.”
“Quit lying, you’re not good at it.” Ricardo finds this whole situation very amusing. Not even two days, hell, not even a full one day in and Iolana already stealing hearts. What a maneater.
—
Just as he promised, Sarco took Iolana to the Sterling Mansion after dinner. Ricardo seems more excited about this than Iolana herself.
“So, where is this, Sterling Mansion?” Iolana asked Sarco.
“Near the palace.” Sarco answered shortly.
“Bakery?”
“Absolutely.” Sarco nods. “I love your gates.”
“Sterling is the coolest.” Iolana raised his chin a little bit. “Ricardo looks like the vase you threw to me yesterday.”
“Oh, you’re right! You know, Jusarlie looks like the dining room’s rug.” Sarco informed her.
“I can’t believe I have to handle two Sarco in this lifetime.” Ricardo couldn’t catch up on their weird topics.
“We’re just creative.” Iolana giggled. “It’s stimulating, you know.”
“Just say you’re weird and move on.” Ricardo shook his head.
They finally have a sight of the Sterling Mansion. Now, this is totally different from Cairneye’s. The gate is black, with their family’s crest. The front yard is not that colorful, just a fountain and a grass field. The building itself is very eerie, painting is dark, roof is dark, definitely something straight out from horror movie. Not so different from Iolana’s old house, minus the hardcore maze to confuse those nations whose looking for them. It looks safer here.
“Are you sure your favorite color is pink?” Ricardo thinks that Iolana is lying during dinner.
“Yes?”
“Not so you, just saying.” Ricardo hangs his hands up. “If you said red, I would believe it more.”
“Ricardo, don’t ever say that again or I’ll cut your throat.” Iolana remained calm. “I love pink to the point where I’m obsessed.”
“Please, don’t. I apologize.” Ricardo has goosebumps. Iolana is definitely sick in the head, he’s sure of it now.
“You should take turn on babysitting Ricardo next, nobody ever puts him in his place like that.” Sarco laughed at the scene.
“Wilhelmina would love her so much.” Ricardo sighed. It is always women who put him in his place, not that he complains, but it’s just… what about it? Women has this mystical aura that Ricardo couldn’t explain, like they would actually cut his throat without any hesitation over small things… like the pink topic earlier.
“She would be her closest friend in a second.” Sarco finally opened the Sterling Mansion’s gate. They walked inside.
“She would be her partner in crime if she knew Jestel, Saine, and Jusarlie are already swooned over by Iolana.” Ricardo added. Oh! What an interesting news for Iolana.
“They what?” Iolana is very… dense? That’s what happens if you totally isolated your kid from the outside world.
“I thought you already picked up?” Ricardo is clearly surprised by Iolana’s clueless self. “They adore you, Iolana. So much, to the point where you can call it love.”
“Nonsense.” Iolana laughed it off. There’s nothing worth adoring about her, besides her originality and combat skill, of course. Or at least that is what she thought.
“They gave you their blood, right?” Ricardo asked, having zero clue that Sarco also gave his blood to Iolana earlier after dinner.
Sarco, visibly panicked, rushed his steps like it’s a marathon competition, not wanting to hear the conversation any further. Not wanting Iolana to question his feelings for her.
“They did, what about it? Isn’t it just for me to feel energized and could create stronger bond with them?” Iolana has no idea about all of this, her father never told her about any of this before.
“I have no idea what your tradition is, but here in Krashoviel, they will only give you their blood if they want to settle down with you.”
“Ricardo, slow down. Settle down? As in commitment to marriage?”
Ricardo nods, Sarco? Vanished from their sight. “Exactly. That’s why it is such a big deal.”
“But… there’s no way they’re already falling for me like that, right? I’ve just arrived… maybe they just wanted to protect me better because I’m a human?”
“You love pink sounds more sensible than the words that just came out from your mouth just now.” Ricardo summed it up for her. Ended the whole debate.
“But Sarco gave his blood to me earlier…” That makes Ricardo turn his head faster than lightning. This is so fun, he could make fun of Sarco all the way he wants now.
“Things are getting spicy, I guess!” Ricardo laughs like a madman. “Iolana, you’re one of a kind. Congratulations.”
“Is that even a good thing…?” Iolana is unsure that this is something to be proud of.
“The royal-chaser ladies would die to be in your position.” Ricardo informed. “Get ready for the hates.”
“I never socialize, and this is what I get for my first time?” Iolana let out a deep breath.
“Sounds fun, right? I love drama.” Ricardo smiles widely.
“Oh, you’re some troublemaker.” They finally reached the door. Sarco is standing in the corner like some creep.
“You do know that we could see you nice and clear, right?” Even the dim lights couldn’t hide his tall and pale figure.
“I was just leaning on the concrete.” Sarco is really bad at lying, Ricardo was right.
“So, Iolana, from the seven of us, who do you think is the most handsome?” Ricardo intentionally hits her with that question.
Sarco froze, thanks to the dim light, they couldn’t really tell.
“Well, you’re all handsome. I’m not lying because my brother was a gorgeous man, so he kind of set my standards up.” Iolana admits. “But I personally drowned to someone like Jestel, Saine, or Sarco. They have this hint of mysterious behavior? If you know what I mean. This is in term of physical appearance.”
“Cool!” Ricardo laughed at Sarco’s reaction. He looks so ugly holding himself together like that.
“But I think, Jusarlie has this handsomeness that grows overtime? The more you look at him, the more handsome he would be.” Iolana worded it perfectly. “It is dangerous, that kind of attractiveness is sometimes irresistible.”
“Jusarlie, huh?” Ricardo could see Sarco is totally pissed now. It’s so fun to watch.
“Saine and Sarco? Very beautiful to look at, very gorgeous. But Jusarlie? Hypnotizing. It’s like he could end up an inch away from me, but I wouldn’t even recognize it.”
“That is a massive compliment, I’m glad Jusarlie didn’t hear all of that.” Sarco tries to laugh at Iolana’s words. He just hopes that Ricardo didn’t tell her about the blood things.
“He’s very… tempting. At least for me.” Iolana shrugged her shoulder.
“What type of handsome am I?” Ricardo is curious now.
“You’re the cunning type, in a good way. It’s actually similar to Saine, but different in the details. You both look like you will hate everyone but your girl. While Saine is more of the sweet and serious type, you’re the type to be joking around and make her laugh.” Iolana explained what she feels about Ricardo’s face type.
“I would never want to be in the same class as you during Idris or Saine’s lecture. You will end the whole class.” Ricardo is dumbfounded, why does she have to read him like an open book like that?
“Excuse me, who are—oh, my vamp! Sir Sarco, I apologize. We didn’t recognize you earlier.” A group of vampires just came. They’re probably the said butlers and maids that Sarco told Iolana about.
“That’s alright. I bring you Iolana Sterling today.” Sarco presented Iolana to them.
“Iolana? Sir Tearle’s child?!” Sarco created a huge fuss amongst the butlers and maids.
“Thank you for your loyalty, I’ll pay for your priceless dedication.” Iolana smiles at them.
“No, no, no. We’re devoted our lives to serving Sterling. It is our duty to continue even if the masters are not here. However, we’re so thankful for Sir Sarco—” One of the maids suddenly froze.
Iolana turns her head to Sarco who’s currently using his power to keep that maid silent. His eyes are slightly glowing red. Meaning… it’s just a little sneak peak of his real power. Of course. He’s a Phelanflame after all.
“Sarco?”
The said guy lets out a nervous giggle, “Yes, Iolana?”
“What did you do?”
“Nothing!” Sarco smiles.
“He takes care of them and he also the one who stood with them when the royals want to turn your house to a museum.” Ricardo spilled it out.
“Great, now you’re not on my side anymore.” Sarco sighed and let go of his power to the maid earlier.
“Sarco, did you really do that?” Iolana is touched.
“Yes, I hope you’re not angry.”
“I’m anything but angry. Sarco, thank you.” Iolana is really thankful, Sarco is not as cold as he appears to be. He’s actually the most considerate person she’s ever met.
“I’m just doing my job.” If Sarco is a human, he’s a blushing mess right now. “You should see the house. You never experience it, right?”
“Ah, right! This way, Sir and Ma’am.” One of the butlers opens the front door. “I’m Rupert, the head butler, I’ve been working for Sterling since three hundred years ago.”
“My father told me about you a lot, Rupert. I’m so sorry, your brother died when Slevado strike us.” Iolana informed him.
“He died in honor, Ma’am.” Rupert gave her a reassuring smile. “I’m sure he’s proud of it.”
Sarco and Ricardo watch the scene in front of them with admiring eyes. You’d be lucky if you found a good butler or maid for the house, Sterling has a bunch of the best maids and butlers. Ricardo heard they can fight too, with their skill and loyalty… Ricardo is unsure they could find anyone like them in this nation.
“Excuse me for being presumptuous, Ma’am. Is Sir Tama…?” Rupert asked Iolana about her brother.
“As far as I know, he probably is. I don’t know, I can’t feel him.” Iolana answered honestly.
“We can do whatever we could to help you find him, if that’s what you like, Ma’am,”
“Maybe, I want to rest for a bit. I’ll tell you if I’m ready. Thank you, Rupert.” Iolana gave him a smile.
“I’ll take you to the archive room, Ma’am. Follow me.”
—
Idris is feeling calm and happy today. He doesn’t even know why. He just does. He made a cup of chocolate and sat on his favorite spot in his mansion. A spot where he could see the entire nation, not as wide as the view in the castle, but enough to entertain his eyes. Idris lets out a deep sigh, it is rare to have a day like this.
Just when he’s feeling very thankful for this day, a sudden wave of sound and pieces of pictures attack his mind. “Oh my, another one?” Idris gave in and tried to focus on the vision that the universe was about to give him.
“I have an idea, we can test if Iolana is dead or alive.” Holstein laughed at himself. He’s always doing that when he knows his idea will work.
“How?”
“Put a hex on her but link it to her brother. If she gets sick, make sure Tama will get sick too. We can tell if she’s alive or not.” Holstein smiles widely, it almost scares Idris.
“We could try, let’s go.”
Idris gasped when the vision ended. He should tell Jestel about this.
