for anyone wondering what kompromat is, it's my beloved fic that i worked really hard on, here's the AO3 link & here's my accompanying playlist.

so essentially the idea came to me in a divine vision while i was spacing out walking my dog lmao. i was listening to i lied by lord huron & allison ponthier which isn't a one-to-one lyrically for this story, but the rhythm and melody injected "lawlight tragically dancing in a dark room" into my brain and i started kind of going into a trance from there. i haven't changed anything about the playlist but i would love to recover my mood board (i accidentally deleted it, tragically)

the line "i swore that i'd become a better man for you and i tried" just got me thinking, so i tried to kind of build a scene around the image of them dancing to this tune. like, where would they be dancing? a dark bar because i always want them in real life type situations. why is it so sad? because lawlight is inherently tragic but also, they are either about to part, or be reunited. while kompromat isn't explicitly a soulmate au i do think that the idea of a soul mate is pretty much a motif of DN. i like the idea of the red string of fate and i think it works here and in canon. also, with regard to memory loss and regretting losing your memories, i love eternal sunshine so much it's probably my favorite movie ever, and i hadn't made the connection until i started writing.

also i'm sure everyone who reads my fics has picked up on this but i'm really invested in everything being really real, so i spent a few hours looking at beautiful london hotels and nice bars. as a fellow new yorker i want to tell you specifically that the bar that is in my mind visually is the nines in noho even though the fic is set at the fumoir at the claridges hotel in london.

i was really, really intent on having kompromat be posted *on* new year's eve. i realize now that i probably hindered my engagement by doing that because most people probably don't sit on AO3 on nye (no judgment here obvi, just seems true to me). but there is always a melancholic feeling on nye to me no matter how much fun you're having. i don't know how to describe this specific melancholy other than the feeling of listening to the song "auld lang syne" and like, the idea of leaving your old life/year behind, for better or for worse, you know?

i just love the idea that in any timeline, in a million lifetimes, the boy best friends manage to find each other because there's nobody as awful as them, and nobody can love them the way they love each other ;_; in funnier terms, this tweet:

33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?

Haha depends on what you call art I guess😂😂

Okay, so in general I mainly write. I don't consider myself a fanartist, nor do I really do edits other than stupid meme edits at least once a year.

I have dabbled in fanart here and there, mostly during high-school. Somewhere on this blog is a screenshot redraw/study type thing of DDD Riku I did in a sketchbook, and a Zentangle of the Neko Cat dream eater. I also have scores of pokemon under my bed that I drew and the occasional originals from when I was in school.

Most recently, however (since you asked) I actually am dabbling in digital art for the first time. One is a project I have not yet begun and will not talk about unless I'm sure it's happening, but the other is my attempt to depict a Teru Mikami plush in the style of the Square Enix plushies as of late (albiet with better quality clothing). I've been working on shading for weeks, but I can share a preview of the flats:

Otherwise, I also do amv/gmv type edits sometimes (it's been a while, but the old stuff is still up), which you can find on my YouTube. The gmv for "Tout Oublier" actually does tie into my writing, because it was the first of an abandoned project where I would write a Soriku oneshot based on (and named after) the song after making a gmv for it. Like I said, the project was abandoned, none of the other gmvs tie into my writing, so to this day it's the only other arty sort of thing I've done that at all ties into my writing.

No I think I do because that's probably the only explanation for how much I use it. Even when I try to omit it, most times I'm like "no no sounds better this way". I am constantly wondering over whether I have too many commas, and it's this thing's fault (partly), but it’s too pleasing to my brain to give it up. Sometimes I even use it so I don't feel like a sentence is a run on. Commas are my best friend, and Xion's worse enemy (because, as mentioned, I use a lot of commas).

🛠️ What tools/programs/apps do you use to write?

mostly i use google docs, notes app, and discord to harass my writing partners :3 i also use canva to make cover art, playlist covers, mood boards, and stuff like that!

🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?

i usually outline at least a little bit. once i know generally where something is going i will free write starting with the idea that the fic is built around (for example in adieu adieu the first thing i wrote was light bursting into tears because that was the vision that started the idea in general). i sometimes write paragraphs out of order or just put action in brackets until i can come back to it and figure out how to narrate.

⌛ How long does it take you to write a fic, or a chapter?

wildly variable lmao!! i wrote amnesia haze in two days but kompromat took me the entire month of december!!

It's cute, but not really my thing! I give it a high five for being basically the only canon dynamic amongst the most commonly shipped guys in the series that just doesn't seem that antagonistic or dramatic at all. Mello fans have certainly nearly convinced me it's canon over the years. But I just simply do not really care about exploring what's going on between them to think about it that much (I'm pretty bad at sympathizing with Mello, and Matt is just not important enough to the story for me to feel super invested in him either haha)
