rewatched the scene last night where jessica talks to kyrie in episode 6 before their fight and it really is fucking hilarious the extent to which kyrie is completely unaware of how insane she comes across in that specific conversation
jessica is like "is it wrong to pursue my relationship if it would mean other people i care about would have to break up..." and this woman tells her teenage niece about how rudolf was sleeping around but he wouldn't get attached just from fucking someone so she had to be more sly to manipulate him
gets done saying this and then goes "sorry am i boring you?" and when jessica, visibly mortified, says "n-no, but -" she's like "great. so anyway i was going to kill asumu but it worked out because she croaked on her own anyway! all this to say love is really about who you're willing to kill and die for. don't be careless with your heart. does that help?" and it is only at this point that kyrie sincerely goes "okay maybe that was a bit much."
as much as this is kind of The scene that makes it explicit that kyrie is a decently successful manipulator and certifiable yandere for her 3/10 husband, it somehow also completely demolishes any concept of kyrie as a person who is capable of reading the goddamn room despite her analytical prowess. what an incredible character
#there's a cut to jessica where she's just like 😨 and it makes me bust out laughing every single time#wsec.txt#seagullposting#c: 24 x 365 x 18#i need a jessica tag. i had one but it was funnier for jessikanon

MANY THINGS HERE
Jessica is awfully defensive of Kanon. This is way more personal than her relationship with either Kumasawa (who's been a servant for Jessica's entire lifespan) or Gohda. It's probably because they're in the same age range, but it's so cute how she rushed to Kanon's defense. Go off Jessica! Crush on the guy who's contractually obligated to spend time with you.
FUCK. IT JUST DAWNED ON ME. JESSIKANON IS UTENANTHY BOKU/ORE GIRL X ROSE FURNITURE OH MY GOD. I feel like I have to stan their relationship until they crash and burn. I just have to.
ALSO BEFORE I FORGET. Kanon has been here a FULL YEAR longer than fucking Gohda. That man has no rank of seniority or otherwise to pull that shit on Kanon. He's on my hitlist and I hope he dies first

my brain is broken on the topic of fanfic in the sense that, even though I don't judge fanfic that ignores the themes of its source material (and sometimes even enjoy the heck out of it), I simply cannot write fanfic that does so once I've noticed those themes
for example: there is a heck of a lot of trashy Worm fanfic that completely refuses to engage with how all the worldbuilding surrounding superpowers in Worm is designed to make them vehicles to discuss either trauma or institutional power (depending on [REDACTED]), because that worldbuilding also created an intricate and interesting system to play around with so they're more interested in just doing that without the baggage. more power to them; fanfic isn't a job, nobody's keeping score. but if I were to write anything about Worm that didn't have anything to say about that allegory, I'd be ashamed to post it online. I couldn't bear it anymore than I could bear claiming that I'd written a fic about Captain Hook if that fic didn't take advantage of his mythical function as a cipher for "bad [from the child's POV] dads"
like. give me a symbol space and I feel like I either have to use it properly or the fic I'm writing feels OOC on some meta level
anyway that's why my umineko jessikanon fic idea is still in development purgatory. have to figure out how to make it work while still obeying all the gameboard rules! sad

was just struck by a beautiful realization
in 2009, umineko's anime adaptation was released. it was a bad adaptation but it introduced a lot of Anime People to the story.
that was also the year ep5 and ep6 came out. ep7 wouldn't be published until late 2010. nobody alive, other than sayaka ohara and ryukishi themselves, knew the deep secrets.
all this to say: people must have been drawing so much porn of shannon in that era. and all of it was drawn with no idea. with not even an inkling.
like. I deeply treasure some of the stuff that people who Know The Truth have been able to do in this department. that one jessikanon lemon I linked a few months back, for example.
but there's something poetic and magnetic about like. the fact that due to the fandom interest curve, maybe the majority of content about the furniture twins was drawn by folks who took them purely at face value. as exactly the people they presented themselves to be. naughty bits and all.

Umireread: Legend of the Golden Witch - Chapter 16: The Golden Witch
Sun, Oct 5 1986 - 11:30PM
The following contains spoilers for the entirety of Umineko. Please do not read if you are yet to finish it.
Given Chapter 17 is more of an Epilogue than an actual chapter, there’s something to be said about how, for “Legend of the Golden Witch”, the halfway point is “Legend of the Gold” and the final chapter is “The Golden Witch”. There’s no real meaning to this, I just think it’s a neat little thing in the choice of naming.
Full disclosure - I remember coming out of my first readthrough enjoying the prospects of Jessikanon a lot. I’ll be keeping an open mind and find myself willing to change my perspective if the story swings me that way, but I vastly preferred the idea of Kanon with Jessica than Shannon with George.
Yet again, everyone knows that knowing the meaning behind the magic circle will do no good, and simply upset them, but Battler decides to pursue the truth regardless. A harmful truth is better than a blissful ignorance.
Once again - we find ourselves in a parallel of the scene with the receipt. Everyone took Eva’s word for it when she literally could have been lying about it. Once again, no-one other than Natsuhi can confirm the letter wasn’t there before she placed the canned food, nor can she defend against the accusation that she was the one who placed it.
Hey, so about all those phone lines being out?
This definitely isn’t a plot hole, as it’s addressed by the characters in universe, so it’s pretty safe to say that they were indeed tampered by the servants and fixed at some point (if not by Yasu making the most of the time while everyone was in the study, then by one of the servants on the way back to the parlour.) Either that or, you know, magic.
Oh, this is an interesting misdirect. I like this one a lot - providing a solution to a problem that didn’t even really exist in the first place. That’s surely how Kinzo was drawn out of the study, and not, you know, him not being alive in the first place.
Yasu has no knowledge of this, right? She wasn’t there to see Battler give Maria the charm back (it would be contrived if she somehow had eyes on that moment without anyone seeing her), and I’m not entirely convinced that Maria would be bringing up the anti-magic charm to Beatrice of her own volition. With that in mind, I think it’s worth chalking this up to Yasu having a soft spot for Maria, not wanting her to die horribly - something which would match up with the second message bottle also seeing the little girl survive to the end. I think that does make the wilted rose a weak point earlier, since it seems out of character for someone who clearly cares for Maria’s wellbeing to actively torment her, but I suppose it’s not impossible to rule it as something Yasu did for the greater cause at hand, especially considering everyone would be dead within 48 hours anyway.
LIKE THE HEROINE OF A TRAGEDY.
Natsuhi’s final duel here is a thing of beauty - she’s the heroine of a tragedy, but that was the entirety of the episode behind her. Plagued with headaches, having her loved ones torn away from her, accused of atrocities far beyond her control and thrust into a leadership position that she did not want - Yasu’s writing has ensured that Natsuhi suffers at every single turn of the past two days. But not here. She’s allowed to go out honourably.
I see this as a humanised element of Yasu - a realisation towards the end of her work that, while she’s used Natsuhi as an instrument of catharsis, tormented the one who has ruined her life, perhaps she has been a little too harsh in what she has put her through. How she herself has ignored the human behind the monster; and reduced Natsuhi to naught but someone deserving of torture. In this moment of lucidity, Yasu relents, and allows Natsuhi to have a fitting ending - one where she still dies, one where she does not make it to the golden land - but not one of embarrassment. Yasu is not a cold hearted killer. There is that part of her that allows her to see the best in even the worst of people; no doubt the same part that allows her to let Rosa go out so elegantly in Episode 2 despite her horrific treatment of Maria. Yasu is human. And I think that’s beautiful.
Once again, Jessica’s VA steals the show for Episode 1. Everyone gets really good moments, no-one lets a scene down or shows any weakness, but between the wretched wailing and asthma attacks, no-one matches her level of performance.
Yet.
A gentle nod to the format of the gameboards - but a stark reminder that, at the end, it all returns to nothing. An explosive finale that ensures nothing is left behind. What a way to send us out.
And so the clock rolls over from 24 to 0.
Sleep peacefully, Beatrice.

for ship bingo, jessica and kanon maybe? 💕
I am so ecstatic to have an ask... thank you my good blogger!
I love Jessikanon and it's my favourite servant ship considering that Shannon is kinda... with George and whoooo boy, red fucking flag central.
Jessica and Kanon's relationship is so pure, like you've got this quiet boy with extreme social withdrawal and the worst self esteem but Jessica sees past that. She's better than her adult relatives for many reasons, but in this context, it's because she sees Kanon as a human being. Not furniture, not merely a servant and even though he pushes her away, she doesn't abuse her power and take it out on him like what her mother does to Shannon (albeit for different reasons, i.e, the ushiromiyas bully her due to their superior ranking). It's honestly so charming that Jessica sees past social hierarchy. And in that same vein, Kanon comes to realize that he has someone outside the servant ring, who cares about him unconditionally.
On the same end it's so angst-y because his self esteem makes him believe that Jessica deserves someone better than him, and he turns her down because of this despite reciprocating her love. Aaa it makes me feral!! Absolutely feral!!
Let them be happy ffs. Golden land is Goated but does it really have to be a "you have to die to get in" deal 😂😭
And my reasonings for the choices I picked are explained below!.... I still don't know how to make an under the cut edit, sorry folks.
---------------------
HUGE SPOILERS DO NOT PROCEED UNLESS YOU'VE FINISHED UMINEKO
Exact opposite of relationship: Kanon wants to orchestrate the rokkenjima massacre... Jessica is not exempt from this plan
Concept more appealing than execution: Execution writing wise was perfectly fine, I'm talking more meta. The concept of Kanon and Jessica is amazing, but you kind of have the whole massacre to take into account. AND Kanon's gender identity which Jessica is unaware of.
Projection Central: Both of them are in some way, projecting their issues onto eachother, or rather that their inner conflicts make them seek eachother out. It's much healthier to an extent on Jessica's side, but the two of them are still projecting in some way.
My feelings are mixed: I actually do love them as a couple, and I ship them, but then we have the whole Kanon identity thing to unpack and Jessica is completely unaware. They clearly want to be together and I think that it would be so caring, but the basis of their relationship/mutual attraction is a lie. If Jessikanon actually went ahead, she'd eventually have to find out about who Kanon actually is. And she's the Heir to the Ushiromiya family, so if she managed to make it official, it's her duty to produce more heirs... that's a massively huge problem.
People that ship them need therapy: Anyone who reads umineko needs therapy
Signing off!
~Evangelli
