The reason Epic: The Musical is such a good adaptation in my eyes is because it’s ORAL it’s SONG AND VERSE and the Iliad and the Odyssey were RHAPSODE !!!! THEY WERE ORAL TRADITION!!!!

IT IS DIFFERENT THAN THE WRITTEN VERSE BECAUSE ITS OUR BARD JORGE’S INTERPRETATION AND HE IS OUR RHAPSODIST!!!!

WE ARE SINGING THESE CHARACTERS AND STORIES TO LIFE WE ARE HAVING THEM SPOKEN TO US BY BARDS AND A STORYTELLER AND WHILE ITS A MODERN TAKE ON AN ORAL RETELLING TURNED LITERATURE WE ARE STILL SPEAKING IT INTO EXISTENCE TO EACH OTHER!!!!!

I’m just,,,, AAAAA me when form me when historical form and modern adaptation touch and interact me when humanity while looking forward and making something new still intimately works with ideas of the past and traditions of the past….

"why would you wanna write about straight people? that's boring." like idk man, because yeah, sometimes I like writing about queer people, particularly when it's about gay women fucking sloppy style, but also like it or not, I am asked to perform a certain level of heterosexuality in my day to day life not even just by "the system" or to appease potentially bigoted strangers or acquaintances but also every time I date a man who no matter how much feminist ally he wants to be still has internal expectations of what "girlfriend" material is or a queer woman who has projected the role of "boyfriend" onto me because of reasons that can be as shallow as the fact that I happen to be a good bit taller than her. and sometimes analyzing that headspace I've been forced to occupy and how it has affected my understanding of gender by creating fictional characters who are different from me but still are affected by that same grand performance is an interesting exercise to me. and maybe that's going to be boring to some people but I don't write stories because I want other people to think I'm cool and interesting. (I make lame jokes on the internet because I want people to think I'm cool and interesting.) I write because I have an idea in my head that's interesting to me and I wanna see where it goes.

IM BACK (kind of)

HELLO ILOMILO COMMUNITY!!! im sorry i completely abandoned this blog for like 1.5 years without saying anything lol 🥲 at the end of 2023 i decided to leave tumblr for the sake of my mental health. i'm still struggling, but i'm doing better than i was before, and i think i'm ready to try to start using tumblr again only for connecting with people around media that brings me joy... like ilomilo! this fandom (both on tumblr and outside of it) seems to have grown while i was gone which makes me so happy to see. i'm looking forward to continuing to celebrate this beautiful game with all of you!

when i last posted, i was working on some ilomilo projects: uploading all posts from the ilomilo devblog to this blog here, compiling information about every block and character in the game, and a secret third thing. i'm hoping to make progress on all of these things this year! i'm still not ready to tell you about the secret third thing but i've been slowly making progress on it while i've been gone and i hope to be able to share it with you someday not too far in the future :~D

i'll leave you with this: since i last posted here i moved and have finally been able to start decorating a space of my own, and i decided to treat myself to a couple ilomilo goodies to celebrate! the plushies are made by angelinalily and the turntable topper is made by (you guessed it) turntabletoppers! i hope to be able to add more ilomilo stuff to this shelf, including some of my own creations (i tried sculpting ilo and milo recently but it did not go well LOL) :~D

i have such an irrational hatred for the d4 that I have tried to argue on multiple occasions that i should be allowed to roll a d8 instead of 2d4 because "it's basically the same and I will roll higher damage with a d8" and my dms are always like "it's not the same! 2d4 means you're always getting a minimum of 2! also, you are, in fact, statistically more likely to roll higher damage with the two d4s than with a d8." and then they try to explain the math, but their math means NOTHING to me because what these dorks can't calculate is that I know in my gut that i can roll a d8 better than I can roll 2d4s. because it's not about the statistics, it's about the feeling it's about the vibes it's about connecting to the roll. so i demonstrate this, and WITHOUT FAIL, i will roll a 2-4 on the d4s and like 6-8 on the d8 and it infuriates them because it doesn't make sense but they also can't argue with it because i will just keep doing this and they will get madder and madder as i defy all probability with my soul connection to my d8s.
