I finally finished Modern Family.

It took about four years. And that’s only because season ten arrived on Disneyplus in 2023 and season eleven arrived on Disneyplus on New Year’s Day 2024. Two and three years after I’d watched the first nine seasons during lockdown. But anyway. All is forgiven. Because it really was an amazing sitcom. So here’s my little retrospective.

What I liked about the show:

I think one of my favourite parts about the show is that Jay left Dede not because of an affair, but because he just couldn’t cope with her anymore. Even nowadays the man leaving the woman because the love had disappeared is an incredibly rare occurrence.

I like how well Mitchell and Cameron balance each other out. They’re both a little camp. But Mitchell has the realism going for him and Cameron is the sports honcho. I just think they did a good job of evening out the personality traits.

I know not many people agree. But I rather like Haley ending up with Dylan. I liked Andy as well. But sometimes the first love wins out you know?

Tying into point one. I liked that while Gloria was younger than Jay. She wasn’t YoungerTM than Jay. He was nearing sixty. She was in her mid thirties. Again. Even nowadays that kind of age gap is still abc incredibly rare occurrence.

This is going to be controversial. BUT. I’m actually okay with the hbo type of jokes that they had. It’s probably because I watch supernatural and friends and the Simpsons. But in a show like this. The shipping options are kinda limited. Plus a lot of them were in the same age range. So looking at it from like a “Jane Goodall perspective”. I’m okay with the hbo type of jokes. It was just the right amount of Crossing The Line Twice.

Barring that one season nine episode. I’m happy that they never treated Dede with undeserved sympathy. That type of woman doesn’t deserve to be liked.

I really liked Joe. He was hilarious. It’s just a shame he didn’t get a lot of one on one interaction with Mitchell. Apart from that he was great.

Mitchell and Cameron’s wedding. It was a great two episodes.

Pepper Saltzman. He’s played by Nathan Lane. Where else was I going to put him?

Jay’s development with Mitchell. Claire was obviously his favourite. But it was nice to see how far he and Mitchell got by the end of the show.

What I didn’t like about the show:

This is a big one. While I liked that Alex and Arvin got together, at last someone that matched her intellect that she didn’t feel ashamed of finding physically attractive, I really did not like how she basically got shamed into quitting her lucrative career by a loaf of uppity college students. Just because she’s smart doesn’t mean she has to do the difficult job. She’s allowed to take the easy way out.

This is a little petty. But given Phil’s almost debilitating coulrophobia. It’s a shame that Fizbo and The Amazing Phil couldn’t take the circus world by storm.

I get that Claire wasn’t Dylan’s biggest fan. But for all her, justified, admonishments at Jay for how he treats Phil. She could’ve tried a little harder to break the cycle.

Pameron. Jessica. Tucker. She’s basically just a live action version of Gayle Genarro. Except lucid and aware of the chaos she causes. Baby Calhoun, however, is adorable.

Sal whatever-her-last-name-is. Hilarious. But grating.

Between all three of the Dunphy kids, Mitchell’s actor being part of the original cast for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Cameron’s whole thing. It’s a shame that the show never had a proper musical episode.

Dede. Just. Dede.

Farrah Marshall. Claire was right. She really WAS Dede reincarnated. Only more spacey.

The fact that Dylan and Haley got Mitchell and Cameron’s old house and not the new house that was literally perfect for a growing family like theirs.

The fact that Covid and the resultant lockdown turned the finale into an Allegedly Optimistic Ending. Which is why we really need a reunion movie

quick and dirty..... born in seattle to two very sweet very loving parents. hopped around a lot once she reached adulthood because she was struggling to find a place in the world where she'd fit in. while her parents were a little disappointed she didn't choose to go to college, they ultimately decided that their love for her outdid any expectations they had set for her. yejide did a lot of odd jobs all around the country and made a very large network of friends and acquaintances.

by the time she reached bearhold, she didn't really feel like leaving. maybe all the moving around finally caught up to her, or maybe bearhold was just the right amount of charming to keep her. besides, it wasn't too far from seattle. she could visit her parents whenever she felt like it. the fire department was fun, too. a good community, a flicker of the thrill she'd get on her solo adventures, a solid group of friends she may even call family.

two months ago, she returned home to seattle. it's the first time that it hit her that her parents were aging, and what has she done with her life? she hugged her mom and dad tight, commented on matching grey hair her dad was sporting and the smile lines on her mom's face. they've done things with their lives, helped people, made a difference, and it's all written right there for anyone to see.

and then. well. she made the mistake of meeting up with some high school friends since she's back home anyway. they decided on a night out, one that the never-reluctant yejide was a little bit reluctant about. no worries. something about one of her friends was a little strange. whatever. whatever, it's all good! no worries.

you know. until she wakes up the next morning so fucking thirsty that it's painful. until she can't bring herself to say bye to her parents before heading back up to bearhold out of fear of herself. until she ignores the group chat message that the friend with weird behavior that night had gone missing. until she finds their obituary a few weeks later. until she realizes she doesn't know what she is or what to do about it. it's all good. no worries.

standard stuff! was a little bit horrified that she seems to glitter like she's from twilight. made her a bit nauseous. doesn't like taking day shifts at work because of that. standard vampire abilities: super strength, super speed, quick healing. was also horrified regarding all of that. chest compressions from a vampire? scary. yeah you're supposed to be breaking ribs but not like that. due to her general friendliness & charisma from when she was a human, her vampire self seems to have some charm ability that she doesn't fully understand and doesn't want to.

born and raised in jersey by a single mom. dad was out of the picture and mom always told a romantic story of how he's off doing something heroic to protect their family. jem still believes this.

mom wasn't well off by any means, she had to work to put jem through school, though jem got scholarships for college. their mom gained notoriety for her incredible singing voice after a stroke of luck on american idol when jem was already a college freshman.

has always been very talented at writing to the point that nearly everytime they entered a writing competition in middle/high school, they won. their short stories were always either very poetic and prose heavy, or contained an incredible amount of world building.

published their first book, zugzwang, when they were still in college. it got picked up by a big deal publisher and while it didn't get popular, they still kept them on under the impression that they'd do very very good for the company when the time was right.

their next book, long past dawn, gained popularity very quickly, especially with queer teens/new adults. easily their favorite book to date, it holds a very special place in their heart.

after that, it was all uphill. their trilogy, steele legacy, put them on the map. they're a highly sought after author to the point that they have even done some guest lectures at their alma mater.

sucks at writing romance because they've never been in a relationship and it's kinda making their publisher mad because the fans want romance !

personality wise they are very sweet, very funny, will pull innocent/harmless pranks on their friends. extremely extroverted. genuinely just here for a good time. always, always smiling.

unfortunately, they're also quite gullible and naïve, easy to manipulate. they grew up pretty sheltered as their mom always worried about them. really just takes things at face value.

steele legacy trilogy is getting a movie adaption ! but shh that's a secret.

003. CAREER …

zugzwang (2013) : a very da vinci code-like mystery thriller novel with some knives out/glass onion type humor. her highest selling novel after the steele legacy and f&s. only gained traction after steele legacy's release. long past dawn (2015) : a short coming of age novel in a first-person biography style about a new adult figuring out their identity as a queer person while navigating college life. happy, sweet ending. sheep in wolf's clothing (2018) : sci-fi horror written in an epistory style that was, honestly, not that well received due to how experimental the writing was. due to the success of the rest of her works, it has garnered a solid fanbase. steele legacy trilogy (2016-2022) : quintessential high fantasy series with incredibly impressive world building that put her on the map once booktok got a hold of it. easy to digest prose that walks the line between too-flowery and easy to understand. new adult / adult audience simply due to the heavy topics. as the rest of her books, there is no romance, but fans are obsessed with the three protagonists - luka, jingyi, and zora - as a throuple based simply on platonic relationships. faithless & stolid (2023) : the first book in a trilogy taking place in the same world as steele legacy, though it is technically a prequel. even better reception than steele legacy so far. publisher & fans are urging them to involve romance in this one. future projects : publisher is pushing them to write something before releasing the second part to f&s, preferably romance, despite their unfamiliarity with the genre.

shortly after birth, yejide was left in a baby car seat at seattle's fire station 19, accompanied by a letter written on composition paper stating her name and how sorry her birth parents are for leaving her like this, but they simply do not have the means to raise her right now. until proper care can be given, yejide is taken care of by firefighters that dote upon her every second of the day.

she is shortly placed into the foster care system, and though she is nearly adopted several times over the first few years of her life, something always happens that stops the process right in its tracks.

long story short, she is never adopted, simply bounced around from foster house to foster house getting her hopes up only to be miserably crushed. yejide came out of the system with lifelong friends made with her foster siblings.

[ car accident tw ] she was accepted with a full scholarship to MIT, attributed to her incredible capabilities on a computer. she kept in close contact with all of her foster siblings and even attended MIT with one that was a couple years older. unfortunately, they died in a car accident. filled with grief over losing someone she considered family, she dropped out of MIT and bounced around the country, couch surfing.

she continued to teach herself coding and advanced computer engineering in an attempt to keep herself together and occupied. eventually, this formed into becoming a vigilante hacker, attacking businesses and people she thought were engaged in criminal activities or other such activities that went against her own moral compass. curious about mercy, she did hack into mercy's systems and was caught shortly after. yejide was given the option between working for them or serving jail time, and she decided to accept the job.

she has been at mercy for five years now, and does stay in the on base accommodations as she feels that's what's best for her and it gives her a way to interact with everyone in one way or another. absolutely the person you want on your side during any problem, whether that be personal or professional. undying support and loyalty for anyone that shows her a smidge of kindness. surprisingly great at interrogation if only because of her unnerving ability to talk her way into or out of anything, alongside her undeterred charisma, but she honestly hates the interrogation part of her job the most and is likely to trade any interrogation assignments with a coworker for a favor.

BIOGRAPHY

Taylor has dreamt of doing hair since she was a kid. Her mom would buy her countless Barbie dolls with how often she was cutting and styling their hair.

She grew up in a comfortable home, with two loving parents in Georgia.

Her father is a lawyer, and her mom is an elementary school teacher.

She kept to herself a lot while she was growing up until she got to high school.

As she got older, she started to party and go out a lot more; exploring her wild side.

There wasn’t much else to do where she grew up, but being so close to the film studios in Atlanta, she decided she was going to follow her dream and apply for hair schools.

After getting into school in California, she moved out and spent nearly ten years doing hair at studios there.

She finally decided to move over to work for Red Line Studios, and has been there for six months.

She’s a bit of a wild child, but when it comes to work she is completely serious.

She’s gotten used to working with celebrities, but she is a hopeless romantic, so to say she’s had crushes on nearly everyone she’s worked with would be an understatement.

She tends to spend her free time at her apartment, curled up with a book. (If anyone wants to come push her to get out more, please do.)

Taylor is an extremely loyal friend and will drop basically anything to be there for the people she loves.

Os Rivera vibraram com a vinda de dois herdeiros de uma vez só ao mundo. Era perfeito! Um garoto para gerar os negócios e uma garota para conseguirem se unir com um clã importante e alavancarem ainda mais as relações interpessoais deles e, claro, os negócios.

Martina desde criança era articulada e curiosa, aventureira, sempre ávida para agradar os pais e receber um “muy bien, chiquita” em troca. Enquanto crescia, assistiu o pai que a mimava enrigecer com Lorenzo, que não correspondia às suas expectativas de um herdeiro proativo. Apesar de ter sido feliz enquanto crescia, seu apego ao irmão superava qualquer outro laço feito com os pais; tinha um senso de proteção absurdo por Enzo e faria mundos e fundos se isso quisesse dizer o melhor para ele. Dennis Dunphy was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. Dennis becomes an aspiring athlete who receives the strength augmentation treatments offered by Power Broker, Inc. Finding himself too strong now for normal sports, he becomes a professional wrestler and member of the Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation (UCWF) along with other superheroes and supervillains such as the Beyonder, the Thing, and Screaming Mimi. He refuses to throw a fight with the Thing, and is defeated.[3] The Puppet Master later mentally compels him to attack the Thing.[4] Dunphy refuses the Power Broker's order to help kill Ms. Marvel. He reveals his addiction to the Power Broker's drug to the Thing, and goes through a painful withdrawal when the Power Broker cuts off his drug supply.[5]

After the fall of the UCWF, Dunphy becomes the Demolition Man and teams up with Captain America to investigate Power Broker, Inc. His costume is intentionally designed so the body of it is a duplicate of Daredevil's first costume, and the hood is a knock-off of Wolverine's. He successfully rescues Captain America from Karl Malus and helps Captain America catch him.[6] Dunphy is captured by the Power Broker and is subjected to further treatments which augment his strength further but damage his heart. While under the influence of the stimulant, he goes mad and attacks Captain America. Dunphy suffers a heart attack, his second augmentation is reversed and he is hospitalized.[7] Dunphy then takes a step back from superhero activity to take over Captain America's hotline.[volume & issue needed]

Soon after this, Steve Rogers is stripped of his Captain America costume by the Commission on Superhuman Activities (CSA) and goes missing. Demolition Man joins Falcon, Nomad, and Vagabond to search for Rogers. They discover Rogers, who had renamed himself simply "The Captain", and they all become a short-lived informal team. They defeat the Serpent Squad in their first outing.[8] D-Man aids the Captain, Falcon, and Nomad against Famine.[9] D-Man is nearly killed in battle by Titania.[10] He begins teaching Vagabond hand-to-hand combat, but is attacked by a jealous Nomad. He fights Anaconda and Slither of the Serpent Society.[11] He is attacked and poisoned by Viper, and mistakenly fights Battle Star. Dunphy is arrested by the CSA and held for questioning about The Captain's activities.[12]

When Dennis is finally released by the CSA, he seeks out the Captain, discovering that not only had his team disbanded, but that the East Coast Avengers team had also just disbanded and that the Captain is seeking new members. The Captain asks Demolition Man to join the Avengers and they immediately leave on a mission at the request of Battlestar. Battlestar's partner is John Walker, Captain America's replacement, who was captured by Flag-Smasher and his group ULTIMATUM. While Battlestar and the Captain investigated ULTIMATUM's Arctic base, Demolition Man is left with their plane. During the fight, the Captain discovers that Flag-Smasher's base contains a doomsday weapon (an electromagnetic pulse generator), and he orders Dunphy to set the plane on course to crash into the base and then bail out. Dennis sets the course, but then sees an enemy agent land on the plane. Dunphy elects to stay on the plane to ensure that it crashes. The plane explodes, apparently with Dunphy in it, and Captain America is unable to find any trace of him.[13]



In a later adventure with Jack Frost, Captain America sees what he believes to be Dunphy's body frozen in suspended animation in ice near the North Magnetic Pole in the Arctic. However, he is unable to free him.[14] Demolition Man survived the explosion, but suffered wounds that rendered him mute and in a stupor, and is discovered living among the Inuit. During a backup story to "Operation: Galactic Storm", he is rescued by U.S. Agent and the Falcon and recovers under Avengers' care.[15] In time he becomes a hero of a subterranean group of homeless people called the Zero People. Dennis assists the Avengers who are under attack by Morgan LeFay's forces.[16]

It was later established that Dunphy had become delusional and mentally unstable.[17] His intentions remain pure, but he had begun to believe that a "Cosmic Gamemaster" had asked him to retrieve the seven Infinity Gems, which D-Man carried out by stealing common jewelry. At Ben Urich's request, D-Man's hero Daredevil descends into the sewers and persuades Dennis to get some help.[18]

In Civil War: War Crimes, an unnamed newspaper carries the headline "D-Parted: D-Man On The Run After Whereabouts Revealed By Anonymous Tip".

Dennis was being considered as a "potential recruit" for the Initiative program, according to Civil War: Battle Damage Report.[19]

During the Dark Reign storyline, D-Man is shown to be serving in the U.S. military in his civilian identity and covertly in his Demolition Man costume. For a while, he inspires several of his fellow soldiers to operate covertly in costumes as well, but he puts a stop to it out of concern for their military careers. He continues operating by himself. How he recovered from the brain damage/mental instability he had been suffering from is unknown at this point.[20]

In a one-page strip in I Am An Avenger #2, D-man attends a picnic at Avengers Mansion and competes in a pie-eating contest, besting The Thing, Protector, and Valkyrie.[21]

D-Man made an appearance in New Avengers #7, while various heroes are being interviewed to be a nanny for Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. He appears to be spontaneously weeping and his only lines are "I am so lonely...", "I think I came off desperate before--" and "Does Captain America ever talk about me?". When Jessica Jones says her mind is made up on a nanny (Squirrel Girl), Cage quips "D-Man it is." to which she responds "Cute".[22]

Wonder Man recruits Demolition Man to join his Revengers.[23] All three Avengers team defeat Demolition Man and the rest of the Revengers and they are remanded to the Raft. Demolition Man claims the Grandmaster called him to reclaim the Infinity Gems from the Avengers and that the Avengers haven't been returning his calls leading him to be recruited into the Revengers.[24]

A brainwashed Henry Peter Gyrich chooses him to become the new Scourge of the Underworld.[25] Captain America tracks down the new Scourge and the two engage in an intense fight. During the altercation, Captain America recognizes his strength and voice and pleads with him to stop fighting. Demolition Man accuses Captain America of making deals with villains and providing them with new lives instead of punishment, and he takes control of the brawl and Captain America's shield. As Demolition Man is about to strike the killing blow, Sharon Carter arrives on the scene and fatally shoots him.[26]

Someone in Demolition Man's costume is seen as one of the heroes being mentored by Roderick Kingsley during AXIS. It is unclear if this is Dennis or someone else.[27]

During the Secret Wars storyline, Dennis is accidentally resurrected by a young sorcerer who mistakes the name "D-Man" for "demon". After visiting the Avengers Mansion and meeting with Edwin Jarvis and Rage, he has the best day of his life, just before being killed by the incursion between Earth-616 and Earth-1610.[28]

After the eight month ellipsis following Secret Wars, Demolition Man is seen as one of the partners of Sam Wilson (now the new Captain America). It is not explained how he recovered from his seemingly fatal injuries, but Sam simply remarks "He's a survivor". As part of the All-New, All-Different Marvel event, Dennis started working for Captain America as a pilot, mechanic, technician, and field backup. Dennis also bought himself battle armor to "finally look cool".[29] He later returns to the UCWF for a special charity match against Battlestar, and the two men end up foiling an attempt to steal the money raised by the event. It is also revealed that he has a boyfriend.[30][31]

Lockjaw, the Inhuman's teleporting dog, recruits D-Man in an attempt to rescue Lockjaw's siblings. D-Man travels with Lockjaw across his home Earth and beyond. Eventually all the canine siblings gain a place of safety. One with the woman he loves, D-Man's elderly neighbor.[32]

D-Man is later seen as a security officer at the rebuilt Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane

Favorite original character: Of mine? Or out of every book, movie or show I’ve ever consumed? I’ve seen people interpret this question a bit differently. Out of my own characters, I really like the OC/reader character in Digging Up Bones or the wife in the very short story A Sturdy Home. As for other charcters...I love Ezra from Prospect, Aziraphale and Crowley from Good Omens, Phil Dunphy from Modern Family, Jessica Jones from...well Jessica Jones and so so many others.
