You looked back at her with furrowed brows, pausing your work, she knew what made you tick and used that to her advantage. Miguel was your boss and there was nothing to hate except his attitude. Sometimes you couldn't stand him, but the combination of advanced technology, your own space, and a mini fridge- definitely outweighed any of his moodiness. It took a lot of convincing for you to join, and had you known he was this broody you probably wouldn't have joined.

At the beginning, you were stubborn on joining the Spider Society because you had thought it was a pity invite, given that you felt you were more intelligent than agile. Although you admit your body was pretty strong and durable- it was only because your parents had enrolled you in a strenuous amount of classes that ranged from dance to karate- and even cooking. The classes had helped with getting into a good college that allowed you to pursue your dream career, but you never sought out anything besides yoga.

When you got bitten by a radioactive Black Widow you thought it was the end of your story, that your years of classes and college were coming to an end, eventually you realized that you weren't actually dying. And as time went on you started to see the new things you could do, and you embraced them. You were excited, you began practicing moves and spent a lot of time learning how to use your webs properly. You felt like you could become a hero, save lives, and become a beacon of hope for your city.

After some rough events that left you feeling depressed, you decided that becoming a hero was no longer something you could pursue. You felt upset about your own decision for days, you felt useless doing nothing but you felt the same way doing something. The life of a hero felt emotionally, and physically, taxing on yourself and the people around you. With time you managed to overcome the guilt and began to understand that there were different ways save people.

Your new path was to be promoted at the Alchemax company in your world- they were good, you had deemed it so after hearing what they had done in other Earths. Eventually you wanted to lead a research department that could help hospitals, and homeless, worldwide.

Even though the current path was similar to that of a superhero, you still felt an immense guilt in your chest. You thought that your powers were a miracle that should be used, but you couldn't, it's not what you wanted anymore and if you went back now- it would only make things worse.

Miguel had spent many months sending Jessica to your dimension to convince you to join the Spider Society. Every time you gave a different reason to reject the offer, feeling as though you wouldn't bring much value to the team.

It only took the man himself showing up at your apartment, on a Tuesday at 3 am, for you to join. He explained thoroughly why he wanted you, although crude, you felt recognized for something other than your powers. It felt like he provided the missing reassurance you needed, you joined.

"He leaves me alone for the most part, the only interactions we have is him sending me emails, and me going to his 'office' to give him his drugs for the week," you let out a soft laugh, you had to admit, was very handsome under all of the stress, responsibility and arrogance. Despite his handsome looks, you still thought he was an asshole that needed to comprehend people better.

"He's demanding though, and... AND rude" rising from you chair, you scrunch your nose and walk to the coffee machine. There's only so much water could do for your nerves if you continued to speak about Miguel's attitude, as of recent it had been worse and you had no idea why. You tried to understand but he'd only shut you out and demand you leave him alone.

"He just want things to go accordingly for the multiverse... even if he's a little-"

"Harsh? Come on, he basically called me useless the other day because I misread the number seven- SEVEN" you raise your voice while adding stuff to your coffee. "That's why I've been late on my reports, ideas, paperwork AND his serum. He needs to learn to respect people, especially me, who makes sure he doesn't go apeshit" Jessica raised an eyebrow at your statement, sure you could be late on paperwork but, being late to give him his liquid gold? The thing he needed to not lash out on his instincts? The thing that helped him keep his powers? Your nerves grew as you looked around and watched him emerge from a corner, his suit glowing bright with every step, even the way he walked spoke volume about his attitude.

Sure, you had problems with him but you sure as hell were not telling him about them, it's the last thing you needed. He had practically built this place from the ground up and could see everything that everyone was doing if he wanted to- even you, sometimes it creeped you but at this moment it felt erotic.

"I'm not gonna stick around for an argument, you two need to figure it out" she spoke with a look to Miguel. With a brief smile towards you she walked out the doors that shut behind her and the tension in the air became more obvious as the two of you were left alone.

"I give you one job, and it's to follow my formula, but instead you decide to be unprofessional and talk about me behind my back" Miguel's brows knit together as he looked down at you with glowing red eyes. You tried speak but nothing came out, not because you were intimidated, but because you felt your chest heave with heat at the sight of his crimson eyes.

Closing your eyes you take a deep breath to center yourself and shake off the feeling of imploding heat that was blossoming at your core. he wouldn't let people kill spiders, like black widow spiders because of the William Wallace story and because he served in a company that the symbol and nickname was one

also he didn't talked about his army life like AT ALL, he said it was harder for him to remember things since he spent great part of his life om the army while the other guys served like with one company and that was it, for me it's clear it was bullshit he was so hard on himself and self critical on the basic stuff he didn't so one can only imagine how he dealt with the heavy stuff

his final years he was losing his strength, already loss great part of his hearing and was so ashamed of it and was really frustrated and miserable

after his death this one person of his family took his ashes and spread somewhere in a beautiful lake near the Canadian border where he rests today, quite emotional really

Okay so overall this was such a great reading, it's really a testament to how complex, mysterious and sometimes twisted his character really was.

I loved how the authors didn't pushed any agenda or narratives, I feel like they did a good job because they didn't tried to justify any of his actions, they just wanted to bring as many facts to the table as they could so we, as readers, could come up with our own conclusions

Mine is: He was crazy indeed, he did some questionable stuff and it took it's toll on him during and after the war, but also really cared for the man on his side, he sure could be cruel, flawed, cold blooded, impetuous and a true killer, but at the same time protective, respectful, really smart and incredible skilled as a leader, so much that everyone respected him for it, some loved the man dearly, some despised and that it was what truly amazed me by

you didnt know what happened outside but you knew a helicopter was coming down into the building, you watched as the spider woman of this earth started making a large spiderweb as to sstop the copper from hitting the ground. you sprung into action.

jess walked to miguel "we cant just leave her here, shes doing this on her own" miguel was silent "c'mon mig, if she stays here her pops will put her in jail, that could mess up the canon as it is" miguel looked at you before sighing deeply as he looked back at her "i dont know how to fix this" the girl said quietly as you looked back to miguel "yea well, join the club," he said throwing a watch at her.

you smiled at him "i knew you hadda heart somewhere under that cold demeanor" you said laughing. "zip it." he said sternly before walking into the portal you following behind "wowww mig, allat over what i said your so dramatic and for what."

jessica watched the interaction between the two of you she knew miguel cared deeply about you, hell he even looked at you like his little sister, she also knew hed do anything for you. the only time he showed even a flicker of emotion was when talking to you, but you on the other hand seen all his emotions and knew him better than most people in the ss.

d = dates; what do dates look like? who usually plans them, or are is it a group affair?

They can definitely vary. I think Kaidan secretly (or maybe not-so secretly) has a thing for showing off, so he does enjoy planning outings where all three of them are going out. Regis says he doesn't enjoy showing off but he's the king of making them all match.

They all also make time to go out on duos in different ways (Regis and Zaeed are big into anything competitive, Regis and Kaidan do a lot of stuff at home or biotic sparring, and Kaidan and Zaeed have the more adventurous food taste so they'll do a lot of food tours that Regis wants no part of).

While Regis does enjoy staying in, he loves the three of them prepping meals together or cuddling on the couch and watching vids or just spending basic time together.

m = memories - is anyone more on the sentimental side?

I think they all are in some ways. Considering in canon Zaeed still carries Jesse around, so that's something. Regis started the matching scarves because of his late father, Atlas, and later gets them all scarves with their colors on them to wear with their, again, matching armors. He also later separates out his father's ring into two so Kaidan and Zaeed can both get a part of it along with some metalworking. Kaidan takes a lot of photos and candids and likes looking back on their times together.

Zaeed's favorite photo will always be the first one of the three of them in bed after they met during the good ol' casino run in with the vorcha mafia I've made their pre-canon meeting.

Zaeed also carries around Regis's Black Widow that was being serviced when he was spaced, and when Kaidan and/or Regis tire of a weapon, he always keeps a part or a mod from it for his collection.

u = urge; who’s the most impulsive? who do they loop into their plans, and who entertains their antics?

Regis and Kaidan are careful planners, but I'd say Zaeed is pretty impulsive when wanting to go somewhere or buy something or anything really. And they usually entertain him, but just as often they'll gang up on him and be like "no, this is like the hundredth Viper you've picked up and wanted to customize differently" but secretly they'll buy it for him anyway lol

To get a little more explicit, Kaidan and Zaeed are definitely the most impulsive and spontaneous when it comes to sex. I think Zaeed likes to indulge Kaidan's control streak and his hidden exhibitionist streak and finds ways to impulsively exploit them. Regis may complain but he loves both of them dearly and will never say aloud how much he enjoys their antics.

My big New Year’s resolution was to get back to working on my WIPs, particularly my Field Guide to Saturn project. But designing a whole book is kind of mentally overwhelming, especially with my dumbass ADHD-brain. So I’m easing back into it with a few smaller creature designs. Part of my plan is that in sequel books the main characters, Hyacinth and Jess, will go on to explore life on other alien worlds.  This gives me an opportunity to play around with all the cool planetary stuff I’ve learned about while doing research for my planetarium shows. 

So here’s a short dispatch from Jess.

The Black Widow Binary she mentions is based off a real pulsar binary system called PSR J1311-3430.

Sorry it’s been a couple weeks. Been so busy with research. Plus, the gamma and radio waves coming off the pulsar make it impossible to send transmission unless we fly the ship a couple light-years away.

 So, once again we’ve found life where we thought it couldn’t exist. You’d think we’d learn by now. Though, I mean, this star system is way more extreme than any place this expedition has visited before.

It’s called a Black Widow Binary.  One of the stars, Oiwa, is a pulsar shooting jets of radiation from its poles. The other, Iyemon, is a red dwarf being ripped apart by those jets. Iyemon is also tidally locked to Oiwa, so one face is always towards the pulsar and the other is always looking out at space. The stars are so close to each other that they complete a full orbit in just 106 minutes.   In addition, all the material that Oiwa is blasting off Iyemon has built up into a ring of energized dust surrounding both stars.

Well, needless to say , this system is saturated with deadly gamma rays and superheated star-debris. So of course we weren’t expecting to find any life here. And yet, life has found a way.

Dr Madura dubbed these organisms Phaethons after the son of the Greek god Helios. She wanted to make that their genus name too, but the name’s already taken by an Earth bird (she’s super salty about that, by the way), so instead she chose Lucidevorator. Which still sounds pretty cool to me.

Phaethons range in size from microscopic to about as long as an open hand.  They live in huge schools on the side of Iyemon facing away from its companion. The environment is cooler here (relatively speaking) and shielded from the worst of the pulsar’s blasts. They feed on the energized material in the ring using both photosynthesis and a kind of chemosynthesis where they directly consume the energized dust. We haven’t yet been able to do a detailed anatomical study on any Phaethons yet because they will literally disintegrate if taken out of their high-heat, high radiation environment. Though the habitat engineers are currently working on an enclosure to safely house them.  

Despite that durability, Phaethons can be killed by direct exposure to the pulsar’s radiation jets if they drift out of Iyemon’s protective shadow. This happens regularly judging by the huge clots of burnt Phaethon corpses our ship’s sampler has scooped out of the ring.  Most of the bodies show signs of decay and Dr Madura thinks that there might be resilient microbes living in the ring that are snacking on the constant supply of crispy-fried Phaethons.

Miguel and Peter went back to HQ. They were going to need to plan this out. Scarlette Web… He still had a hard time believing that Valentine had turned to the side of evil. He looks at the one picture of her he had. He drags the holographic screen in front of him. She had been in the lab working on something and Layla saw how Miguel was looking at her, her makeup done and her hair pulled up and out of the way. Wearing a lab coat over her dark blue and black spider-suit working away, she was…beautiful. Lyla had taken the picture and showed it to him later. He had been embarrassed at the time, this was a woman who had been widowed, and her husband was him in her universe, he shouldn’t…he couldn’t, but now…He wishes he wondered what would have been different if he had just told her…

“Miguel, we have some more information on Val- Scarlette Web’s location.” Jessica Drew walks in, her slight slip up was something they had all been struggling with. Someone they all knew, turned to the other side.

“Go Ahead.” He says sternly.

“We think we’ve found the Lab where she’s working out of in her universe. Do you want me to assemble a team to do some reconnaissance?”

“No, I’ll go alone, she’s too dangerous to risk a team.” Miguel doesn’t want to go into the real reason. He wants to deal with her alone, See if there’s a chance to get Valentine back.

“Okay…call for back up if you need it.” Jess looks at him with a cocked eyebrow, knowing there’s more to this than danger levels but she wasn’t going to fight him.

Miguel watches her from the skylight at the lab as she injects herself. He can’t but cringe slightly as he sees the way her body shutters at the reaction to the drug. He wonders if there’s any way to bring her back from this. To give Valentine a second chance, but was it too late? Miguel watches her for several hours as she works around the lab. Entirely focused on the task at hand, she has no idea he’s there, her spidey senses dulled by the MERCY.

Sometime after the sunset set and the streetlights had come on, Valentine had moved to another room, she was lying in a hospital bed that she had been sleeping in. Miguel approaches the bed and looks down on her. Her raven black hair falls in her face and he has to resist the urge to move it out of her face. She looked at peace in sleep, not at all like the spiteful villain she had become. Miguel wasn’t sure what to do now, does she wake her? Does he take her out? As he’s weighing the options she starts mumbling in her sleep.

“Ngh…Miguel...” Valentine rolls over as she mumbles his name. Miguel logically knows that she’s probably dreaming about her husband but he couldn’t help feel his heart skip a beat. He gets on his knees next to her bed and takes her hand in his.

“Chiquita…I’m here.” He mutters as he runs his thumb across the back of her hand. Her hand was so cold, and small. Miguel takes his other hand and runs his fingers through her dark hair, pretending even for just a moment that everything was normal. Pretending that this moment was the moment he wanted, the moment where she had fallen asleep in his home, after a long night of talking, or watching movies. But that wasn’t was happened, this was a horrible situation.

“Tiger?” Valentine’s eyes fluttered open, in the dark she couldn’t make him out really, and with the drug affecting her mind…was he really there? Miguel hated himself for what he was about to do.

“Hey, Val…Mi amour…How is my precious wife huh?” He asks with a smile, Dear god he’s an idiot.

“Mig…I gotta be dreaming…”

“And if you are?”

“Then…it’s a good dream.” She smiles at him.

“I’m glad…Why are you here? Why are you not in our home, in our bed?” Miguel feels bad as he deceives her in her sleep and drug addled state, but at the same time he enjoys the feeling of her loving eyes gazing on his.

“Tiger…I’ve made…I’ve made some choices I’m not proud of baby…” She scoots over and pats the bed for him to get up onto it. He hesitates but he does, his tall frame not quite fitting on the bed but they make it work, she’s laying on his chest as he cradles her in his arms. He’s thankful he thought to disengage the suit before coming in here, knowing this charade wouldn’t last with his Spiderman logo emblazoned on his chest. A simple t-shirt and Joggers was all he wore.

“I know…Chiquita…Have I come too late? Is there no chance to convince you?” He asks as he caresses her face with the lightest touch.

“I don't think you know...It's... more complicated. I don't know if you really want to hear this”. She sighs and closes her eyes. “MERCY...it doesn't completely take over the brain. It just...gets rid of the guilt of killing. It makes it easier. I still made those decisions Miguel...I wanted to kill those people, I just didn't want to feel bad about it. It felt...good. I liked it. That's what MERCY does...” She clings tighter to him. Tears rolling down her cheeks as she admits the full truth of the situation. “That’s why I can't go back not after what I've done...not after choosing to be this way.” Miguel feels his heart sink.

“I-I see. Oh Valentine. Why? Why would you do this?” He asks as he brushes the tears away from her face. He’s thankful that in the dark she cannot see his own eyes start to well up with tears as he hears the one thing he hoped not to hear.

“I…it’s a long story…” She sniffles.

“Then tell me mi vida…Tell me.”

“After you died…I was recruited to this group, A multiverse of Spidermen and Spiderwomen, and so much more. And the leader…Well, He’s you. But from a different universe. He and I…well we became friends and things were good, but this kid Miles, he comes and things get nasty. Miguel wasn’t the same after that…and Things just…Miles said something to me that I just couldn’t shake. I had chased him all over the damn city and I finally caught him and he looks at me and he said, that if this is what it meant to be Spiderman, why would anyone stick around? And I…I let him go. I didn’t think Miguel even knew but after the whole ordeal was over Miguel…He treated me differently, and I had no idea why. And one day he stopped talking to me, He seemed to forget about my existence and…It was like losing you all over again. I was entirely alone. I couldn’t handle it. The last time I saw him…He just chewed me out for failing an impossible mission and I couldn’t take it. I left and never looked back.” She sighs. Miguel remembers this fight, he remembers how she looked after, the cold dead look in her eyes as she left his office…that was the last time he saw her, before she emerged as Scarlette Web.

“And so…you turned to the side of evil…Because of this…other me.” He whispers.

“Yes, and I have a plan. I’m creating a device…it will separate this universe, from all the others…so that no one will come here again…and hopefully…slowly. It will fade from existence…and so will I.”

sin! what did you think of the new spider-verse movie? :D

I liked it a lot!

So far I'd say I liked the first one better; I thought this one was maybe a little on the long side and could have run a bit shorter, but I also don't think I can make a definitive judgment about which is better because we haven't seen how the cliffhanger is going to resolve yet and it seems unfair to compare them when the second one only has half a plot arc finished.

I am not really a person who likes the Spider-People side of Marvel at all, mostly because I hate spiders and I hate looking at spiders or pictures of spiders and a whole lot of the Spider-People put big ol' spiders on their costumes and also we tend to get a lot of origin-story pictures of spiders so that's kind of a big personal nope for me. I make an exception for Jess Drew -- who is in this Spider-Verse movie, hooray -- because her costume is not very spidery and also even though her origin story does involve genetic material from spiders, Marvel doesn't make me look at pictures of spiders mostly. I would also like to read more Black Widow comics at some point but I am not sure how much spider is in there -- I know she's not actually a Spider-Person -- or if it's more of a metaphor.

I mention this mostly so you will understand the extreme barrier to me liking Spider-Anything, but I think the Spider-Verse films are great and I really like Miles and I think they've captured how cool multiverse comics plots are in a way that the main MCU so far seems unable to do, in my opinion. Like, I have watched a whole lot of superhero movies and I understand that they all have varying goals with respect to what kind of adaptations they want to be and how close they are to canon -- but so far the Spider-Verse movies are the only movies that, for me, have captured the exact feeling of reading one of those massive summer event crossovers with dozens of tie-ins and a giant escalating plot. Not so much in the exact canon faithfulness or anything, but just the way it feels. I walk out of the movie theater thinking that this movie understands why it is fun to read comics and I like that about it.

Also, I really like Spider-Rex. His name is Pter Ptarker. I'm still not over this.

The Benedict Cumberbatch Netflix Western That’s Surprisingly Disturbing - GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT

Benedict Cumberbatch is a highly regarded and well-respected leading man, appearing in a wide range of films from intense, personal biopics such as The Imitation Game to his many appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Strange. In 2021, Cumberbatch starred alongside real-life spouses Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst in The Power of the Dog, which is available to stream on Netflix now. The film serves as a highly cerebral western drama, winning dozens of accolades through its film festival circuit.

The Power of the Dog was written and directed by Academy Award-winning New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion. The film is based on a 1967 novel of the same name, written by American Western author Thomas Savage. Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst spent the shoot method acting by refusing to speak to one another, as well as learning to play the banjo and the piano, respectively, according to IMDb.

Benedict Cumberbatch was initially cast for the role of Phil Burbank when production first began in 2019. Elizabeth Moss and Paul Dano were originally slated to portray the other two leads, Rose Gordon and George Burbank. Paul Dano was forced to drop out of the project amid scheduling conflicts with Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

The Power of the Dog

After Elizabeth Moss dropped out of the film for unspecified reasons, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons were brought on to join Benedict Cumberbatch in The Power of the Dog. Plemons is best known for his work as Todd Alquist in the hit AMC series Breaking Bad, as well as his prominent placements in films such as Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, and Judas and the Black Messiah.

Kirsten Dunst, on the other hand, is best known for her work as Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, which spanned from 2002 until 2007, as well as a number of roles in projects such as Fargo, Hidden Figures, and On Becoming a God in Central Florida.

The Power of the Dog follows brothers Phil and George Burbank, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch and Jesse Plemons, respectively. The brothers serve as a pair of wealthy ranch owners in early 20th-century Montana. When George meets a local widowed inn owner, Kirsten Dunst’s Rose Gordon, he becomes immediately smitten with her, much to the chagrin of his cold-hearted brother.

This tension only grows after George and Rose get married, causing Rose and her son to move into the Burbank Ranch.

Over the course of a year, Benedict Cumberbatch bullies Rose into becoming an alcoholic, making her unable to perform as a pianist, a feat that once brought her great joy and prestige. When Rose’s son, Peter catches Phil in possession of a number of homoerotic magazines, it begins to become clear exactly why the rancher holds such a harsh and rough exterior towards outsiders. Having been caught and accepted by Peter, Phil begins to warm to the boy, even opting to teach him how to lasso cows and ride a horse.

The Power of the Dog

Before long, Phil and Peter have bonded, while Rose’s growing alcoholism gets worse and worse, turning her into a shell of her former self. Peter even reveals that his biological father had a horrific struggle with alcohol as well, prompting him to eventually hang himself. Benedict Cumberbatch brings a great deal of range and emotion to the previously abusive character, softening the plight of Rose’s child.

Unfortunately, tensions do not get repaired between Phil and Rose, resulting in a traumatic and emotional third act. The choice made by Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst to remain in character around each other on set paid off with the dynamic between their characters, which can be hard to watch at times.

Benedict Cumberbatch was praised by critics for his performance in The Power of the Dog.

The film was a massive critical success, garnering a 94 percent certified fresh rating on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes and taking home a host of awards from a number of festivals before premiering on Netflix in December of 2021. Jane Campion’s direction and Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance were specifically praised by critics. The Power of the Dog is available to stream on Netflix now.

Wait so Black Widow (like the movie) literally negates Marvel’s one and only argument for why Natasha should have died instead of Clint, that argument being “Clint had a family”. It literally says in the movie that Alexi, Melina, and Yelena were Natasha’s family and that she has two families, them and the avengers. Therefore: I call bullshit and it should have been Clint (yes I am still mad about Endgame)
