China is Ravaging Africa's Donkey Population

Ejiao, also known as donkey-hide gelatin, is made from collagen proteins in the skin of donkeys and is said to aid with bleeding, dizziness, insomnia and coughing.

Ejiao has recently seen a significant spike in demand, selling for around $783 per kilogram, with the Chinese market increasing in value from $3.2 billion to $7.8 billion between 2013 and 2020, according to China-Africa relations expert Lauren Johnston in an article in The Conversation This is thought to be because of the cost of ejiao being newly covered by health insurance, as well as the popularization of the alternative medicine on TV.

This has led to huge increases in the number of donkeys killed to produce the substance, many of which are in Africa, home to two-thirds of the global donkey population.

A study by The Donkey Sanctuary, a British charity dedicated to protecting donkeys found that populations are "collapsing" across Africa, South America and Asia, due to the ejiao industry requiring about 4.8 million donkey skins a year. According to the report, donkey populations have dropped by 37 percent in Botswana, with another study published in the peer-reviewed Animals journal finding that in South Africa, the donkey population is thought to have decreased from 210,000 in 1996 to about 146,000 in 2019, mostly due to the export of donkey hides.

A side story is whether or not this ingredient can be marketed in or shipped to California which is laws prohibiting the consumption of horsemeat.

Seeing as we know Tula has omitted a ton of stuff and when it comes to my emotional wellbeing I trust Brennan Lee Hooligan about as far as I can throw him here's my speculation

Tula fully went into the snow to die. Maybe it was the same day she talked to Ava about Geoffrey's death. Maybe it was later. One of those cold winter days the pain just became too much. Or maybe it didn't until later maybe Tula just went out to clear her head and instead her thoughts spiralled.

She is so tired. Her husband died recently and it hurts so bad and her mother blames her for it and she has two wild little ones to raise more or less by herself and it's all just so heavy and she is so exhausted. And this particular mound of snow looks so enticing. So soft. It's not very warm but it's okay, Tula has her wintercoat, she'll just settle down for a moment. And she gets so, so sleepy. It seems like a lifetime ago since she last had a bit of time just to herself and it's so calm and peaceful out here, nothing like the Warren where there's the little ones to keep fed and Ava to placate and everyone else to guide and maybe just a little nap would make it all better.

Tula is smart. Tula knows the winter is uncaring. She knows that she can't sleep out here, because she might freeze. She might die.

But would death be so bad? Would it really? Geoffrey is dead, her own mother told her it's her fault she wasn't with him. She should have been with him, she should have died. And maybe if she dies now she'll see him again. Maybe Mama was right and she was meant to die with him. And so her eyes close and Tula drifts off to a sleep she expects to be eternal.

And it almost is. But then she sees her children's little snouts in her mind's eye. She sees their eyes, barely open at this point and she sees them looking at her with hurt and confusion. She sees Ava desperately trying to take care of them. She sees them growing up never knowing neither of their parents properly.

And Tula knows she can't let it happen. It almost seems to be too late but with sheer power of will and motherly love, Tula comes to and wills her heart to start pumping again. Wills her body to move and warm up and wills it back towards her warren.

Because Tula can't die now. Tula has a job to do.

Master Post Bridgerton Live Event Season 3

Let me just say so much of what they said leans into exactly how I pictured it.

○ Some words to describe the season: Shonda-"intimate" / Jess B-"confidence" / Luke Newts-"unexpected" / Nicola-"romantic" / Luke Thom-"zoom in"

○ They talk about Colin's words last season and say it was a good place to start in the story/journey; confirm apology will come

○ Pen has 1 main suitor besides Colin who takes a real interest in her (Spoiler: it's Lord Debling)

○ Julia Quinn said it is a good friends to lovers story. She sounded so excited!

○ Someone (either Shonda, Julia or Jess) said they have some good awkward banter.

○ Julia Quinn really confirmed the Colin-Pen hand scene (1st real emotional and physically intimate scene for them)

○ How Jess B talks about Colin (again) gives me hope for his personal journey-mentioned about the 3rd son "not knowing his place in the world" & more

○ Protective El of Colin confirmed (we get El and Colin scenes), but she still loves Pen; Luke N. called it a non-romantic love triangle between the 3

○ Benedict takes roles of Anthony; he can fall into different roles very well, but who is he and what does he want?

○ Will and Alice acquire a new title this season; Martins talked about how they are "drawn out of the shadows"

○ Nic and Newts recreated the pic in the mirror with candle stick!! what?! / They also watch fan edits and send them to each other

○ Easter egg in almost every episode according to Jess B. and they are "raising the bar on visuals"- "even brighter and more spectacular than ever"

○ Superlatives: most like character-Luke Newton; least-Golda; most bloopers-Johnny Bailey or Claudia (and I think she was offended at first, lol)

○ Chaos in Featherington fam because Pen steps out (Portia doesn't like when Pen changes from her citrus dresses)

○ Nicola "didn't expect to be as emotional as it was" from the first 2 episode screening

○ Adjoa said things will make you laugh then quickly after cry
