Hi, everyone!
Tonight is the Golden Globes ceremony, hosted by Jerrod Carmichael 🙌🏼
It's his first time hosting an awards ceremony, but he did host a very memorable episode of SNL (and wore a gorgeous white suit for the occasion).
If you'd like to learn more about the comic before his big night, I've got a number of posts for you to peruse! 👀
First, there are the items about Jerrod Carmichael Week, an event I held on Twitter last March prior to the premiere of Rothaniel on April 1st:
A primer about his works leading up to the comedy special
Jerrod's experiences with comedy clubs
A breakdown of the DND podcast episode
A look at Bo and Jerrod's friendship (be sure to listen to their A24 podcast episode!)
Jerrod and premieres (he's had a memorable outfit on the red carpet since that list haha)
If that's not enough for you, I also have my ongoing series about Jerrod and his sartorial choices (clothing is very meaningful to him, and he chooses his items carefully).
Finally, I have a series of firsthand interviews with audience members who attended one of the four tapings of Rothaniel, including me (one of the best nights of my life!).
I hope you find these articles to be helpful, and don't forget to watch tonight—maybe Bo will show up to support his best friend? We'll see! ✌🏼

I know Brendon Fraser has declared he ain’t going and he’s nominated. Not surprising really considering his history! What i didn’t know till recently was that Tom Cruise gave his 3 golden globes back due to all the controversy so yes a lot have agreed to go but I do think a lot will boycott
Yep! It's all true!
And yea, I expect there will be many that just won't attend.
So far, here are the list of presenters at the GG's next Tuesday night. (Of course, they may add others to this list between now and next week.) At the very least, we can expect that THESE individuals will be in attendance lol. 😅
It also seems that Eddie Murphy will be receiving the 2023 Cecil B. Demille award. So, they ARE trying lol... 😅

How to Live Forever
The simplest, most foolproof way to extend life is to do so backward, by adding years in reverse.
By David Owen

Photo illustration of the author with his mother.
A friend of mine knew a wealthy man who had decided to live forever. That made him hard to be around, my friend told me, in an e-mail, because he was “always dropping to the floor to do ab crunches or running out for bottles of water or falling asleep or outgassing Chinese herbs.” Immortality is attractive to rich people because simple arithmetic shows that if they live a normal lifespan they won’t have time to spend enough of their money. Peter Thiel, the billionaire venture capitalist, has expressed interest in receiving blood transfusions from young donors, an intervention that apparently adds weeks to the lives of laboratory mice. Jeff Bezos’s chiselled physique suggests a similar concern. The longevity evangelist Bryan Johnson, who sold a company he’d started to PayPal for eight hundred million dollars, wears a device that monitors the quality of his nighttime erections.
Life extension is a trade-off, though. You have to weigh the time you stand to gain against the time you lose while trying to gain it. When Jackie Onassis learned that she was dying, of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, she is said to have regretted having done so many pushups. There’s also the discouraging fact that extra years, if any, come at the end of life, when even many rich people have begun to think about winding down. A wealthy bridge partner of mine, now deceased, told me as she approached ninety that she was already feeling a bit bored.
Einstein wrote that “the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.” He presumably didn’t mean that, after death, he expected to travel back and forth through his life, as though riffling the pages of a book. Or maybe he did. At any rate, his statement hints at a better strategy, one that I myself have practiced for decades. The simplest, most foolproof way to extend life is to do so backward, by adding years in reverse.

Golden Globes 2024 Review: Awards Fail to Rise from the Ashes
But after years of scandals, a pandemic, strikes and pivots, including a forced hiatus from TV and then a break with NBC, the Globes spent the run-up to this Sunday’s ceremony (now on CBS) indicating that the institution had changed. For one thing, the HFPA itself is no more, replaced by a for-profit venture with an expanded, diversified voting body. Some of these adjustments were welcome, even overdue; Hollywood has enough opportunities for nepotism without the title formerly known as Miss Golden Globe. Yet the Globes also risked throwing out the baby with the bathwater — or rather, Jennifer Lawrence’s lukewarm chardonnay. If the Golden Globes, the organization, got its act together, could the Golden Globes, the annual celebrity extravaganza, still be fun?
It turns out this year’s Globes were still a trainwreck — just not the kind one likes to watch. At just a hair over three hours, the ceremony was efficient on paper, but felt interminable in practice. With forced banter, ill-conceived staging and a woefully unqualified MC, this year’s show was hardly a triumphant return, let alone a showcase for a new and improved Golden Globes.
Host Jo Koy took the job less than two weeks ago, after bigger names like eventual winner Ali Wong had publicly passed on the gig. Koy’s performance failed to seize the spotlight, instead making for an inauspicious beginning to the Globes’ attempted rebrand. Rather than endearing the stand-up to a new audience, Koy’s monologue was filled with cringe-worthy jokes about “Barbie” breasts and bitter jabs at a crowd that was audibly not on his wavelength. Previous hosts like Jerrod Carmichael and Ricky Gervais have gleefully turned their satiric blades on the Globes itself. (Unfortunately for Koy, Gervais’ shadow only became more prominent when his fellow comic won a prize in absentia.) The kindest compliment one could pay Koy’s performance, at least from the show’s point of view, is that it was enough of a boondoggle to distract from his employer’s own struggles. Unlike in years past, the Globes’ troubles went largely unmentioned until Robert Downey Jr.’s wry acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor.
"The former Marvel star brought the same sarcastic charm that enlivened his erstwhile character Tony Stark. (“It’s so fun proving agents right!”) 🙄
But the evening was otherwise dominated by rushed, perfunctory speeches by honorees who hardly seemed happy to be there. Highlights, like Ayo Edebiri’s shoutout to her reps’ assistants or Greta Gerwig’s shoutout to Noah Baumbach’s inner Barbie girl, came and went quickly, a pace encouraged by an unseen, though frequently commented on, countdown clock. Nor did the presenters seem any more enthusiastic, with the notable exception of Jon Batiste and Andra Day. Onlookers in and out of the room seemed to seize on the pair’s easy chemistry like an oasis in a charisma desert, as much a testament to their own appeal as the lack of highlights before and after their appearance.
The Globes did pull off the coup of getting Taylor Swift in the room by handing her a nomination for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, an award all but made up to lure megawatt stars to the Beverly Hilton. But Koy quickly squandered that win, alienating the pop star with a cheap shot about her presence at NFL games. Swift, an expert at making the most of wordless TV cutaways, telegraphed her displeasure with a single swig of her drink. The night was surprisingly light on prominent no-shows, besides former Gervais and the team behind “The Boy and the Heron.” But given what greeted those who did attend, producers may have difficulty luring in stars of Swift’s caliber again. Lesser-known nominees like Christine Vachon, producer of “May December,” publicly complained about terrible seats at the room’s margins, adding to the impression that a show that bills itself as one big party was failing to satisfy its guests. For viewers, the dampened vibe was both palpable and contagious."

After taking a hiatus last year, the Golden Globes returned tonight in Beverly Hills, California to honor the year’s best film and television performances. Before the ceremony kicked off, however, Hollywood’s A listers came out in droves on the red carpet. The stars celebrated the start of awards season with a combination of traditional glamour and fresh, innovative silhouettes. The more feminine styles were finished with eye popping hues, sequins, or embellishments. Even considering the absence of its former creative director, Alessandro Michele, Gucci made a sizable impact on the red carpet. Michelle Williams’s frothy white dress with mounds of ruffles struck the right balance between drama and refinement; As did Julia Garner’s pink gown, which had a flouncy hem. Anya Taylor Joy’s sprightly yellow Dior look, consisting of a satiny bra top and long floor length skirt, felt modern and timeless. Michelle Yeoh, who won the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, also dazzled in Armani’s sequined peplum style.
#Teechallaclothing Fashion The men tonight, meanwhile, took interesting fashion risks of their own. Actor Jeremy Pope went with a classic Dolce & Gabbana suit though it was covered in black leather, giving it a youthful edge. In an orange single breasted suit by Zegna, Andrew Garfield also proved that tailoring can still be fun and make a statement. Host Jerrod Carmichael continued that mood when he kicked off the Blink-182 October 11, 2023 The O2 Arena, London, England Shirt in other words I will buy this show in a pink satin suit. Ray J Blasts Tyrese Over Eddie Murphy Call Out About Will Smith Joke [Video]
January 12, 2023 6:12 PM PST
There has been a lot of drama surrounding the joke Eddie Murphy made at this year’s Golden Globe Awards. In the latest episode, Ray J defended the iconic comedian and actor after Tyrese Gibson made a remark shaming Murphy’s joke.
via: HotNewHipHop
All Tyrese wanted to do was show support for Will Smith, but Ray J didn’t appreciate Eddie Murphy being caught up in the message. This week, Hollywood’s rich and famous gathered together for the 2023 Golden Globes. While the ceremony was arguably lackluster, host Jerrod Carmichael stirred the pot with his controversial remarks.
However, it was Eddie Murphy who stole the show by sliding in a joke about Smith. As he accepted his Cecil B. DeMille Award, Murphy gave advice to rising stars. He added, “It’s very simple. You just do these three things: pay your taxes, mind your business… and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth!”
The joke was well-received, and later, Murphy told reporters that he has nothing but love for the Smiths, as well as Chris Rock. Yet, Tyrese emerged on Instagram with a note because he wasn’t happy to see Smith as the butt of Hollywood’s jokes.
“I’m just saying man…. Move on already,” he continued. “I just watched EMANCIPATION for the 3rd time I just can’t believe how masterful this overall movie is…. #MyBrothersKeeper.”
In a follow-up, Ray J slid in a comment section to call out Tyrese. It looks like Ray believed the Fast * Furious actor was going after Murphy.
instagram
“Tyrese better mind his own biz!” Ray opened. “You not on Eddie level!!! To think you can tell Axel Foley or Hakeem the Prince of Zamunda to ‘move on already’??”
The Love & Hip Hop star called Murphy a “real legend” and told Tyrese to “show some respect.”
“Before Will slap you back to your reality!” he added. “Yeah I said it! You know how I feel about you and your antics! Don’t play with my mentors!! It wont end well!!”

Album: IGOR Artist: Tyler, The Creator Genre: #AvantGarde #Breaks #HipHop #RnB ℹ️About The Album: Igor (stylized in all caps) is the fifth studio album by American rapper Tyler, the Creator, released on May 17, 2019, by A Boy is a Gun and Columbia Records. Produced entirely by Tyler, the album follows the 2017 release of Flower Boy. It features guest appearances from Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Solange, Kanye West, and Jerrod Carmichael, along with backing vocals from Santigold, Jessy Wilson, La Roux, CeeLo Green, Charlie Wilson, Slowthai, and Pharrell, among others. 💭Thoughts: The album is interesting in its choice of beats and placing, the composition is tight and the sounds vary greatly in pallette. The tracks almost seem disconnected yet along a fluid narrative they bring to mind science fiction future-reality with neon hair and desensitizing decor; but also the all too familiar identity crisis and unrequited love. 🍹Goes Best With : Gin and Tonic on an empty stomach and the rush to get fucked up tonight. Or tangerine tea and an adventure after a long bland week. Favourite Tracks: 🔥Earfquake, 🔥I Think, 🔥Running Out Of Time, 🔥New Magic Wand, 🔥What's Good, 🔥I Don't Love You Anymore. Hi, everyone!
It's a big anniversary today—the taping of Jerrod Carmichael's Rothaniel was exactly one year ago (two shows, the other two were on the 17th)! 🙌🏼
Here are some articles about the occasion if you're interested:
I had interviewed audience members who got to experience the comedy special in person—here is the complete list
I had analyzed Jerrod's fashion choices for his masterpiece—here is part 1 and part 2
Prior to the premiere of the special on 4/1, I did a celebratory Jerrod Carmichael week in which I wrote a new item about him every day—here are all the posts
It was one of the best nights of my life, and I'm so thrilled I was able to be a small part of the most critically successful special of 2022 🥰
Have you watched the Emmy award-winning Rothaniel yet? What was your impression of it and Jerrod's secrets? Let me know! ✌🏼

Hey, everyone!
Welcome back to New Zealand Comedy Month.
This week's article on my site is tangentially related to Kiwi humor with one big exception: Bo Burnham performed with both Taika Waititi AND Rhys Darby in 2017! 🤯
That's right, Bo was an unannounced guest for Rhys Darby's Saying Funny Things Society on February 15, 2017, along with Taika and Jerrod Carmichael. What a lineup!
My article also goes into all of Bo's appearances at the Largo post-Make Happy (well, as many as I could find online at least), but seriously...that had to have been an incredible night for international comedy fans!
Enjoy reading about Bo's Largo shows, and stay tuned for more New Zealand Comedy fun! ✌🏼🐔

That's awesome that you were filmed at one of Jerrod's shows...they had cameras at a City Winery gig I had attended last September, so who knows? Haha
I ADORE their friendship too! 💗
Here are some of my favorite Bobby and Rod things:
Both of them playing D&D with Elsie Fisher and Gillian Jacobs
The Grammys reaction video (Bo's not here, y'all!)
The A24 podcast
This Uproxx interview about their first collaboration, 8, where they keep gushing over each other's works
“We were trying to make something as unique as watching Jerrod on stage,” says Burnham. “Watching Jerrod, for me, is such a unique experience. It doesn’t feel like anything else. So we really wanted to try to make the special not feel like anything else. Because trying to put the round peg of him into a square hole would just be boring. It just doesn’t work for his comedy.”
“We’ve been friends for a few years,” says Carmichael. “He’s one of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met. I genuinely think he’s a genius. And truthfully, he’s just an amazing friend to have.” Throughout this admission he can’t stop giggling. Burnham laughs just as much when asked why. “Yeah, we’re laughing at the idea of each other having to describe our friendship. I think that’s what we’re laughing at.”
And here's my own post with 10 facts about their ongoing friendship
Enjoy! ✌🏼
