Israel jails Grayzone’s Jeremy Loffredo, releases him pending investigation
The criminal case against the American reporter fell apart after an Israeli journalist testified that his own article containing Loffredo’s full video report had cleared military censorship. Yet Israel refuses to let Loffredo leave the country.
On October 11, journalist Jeremy Loffredo was ordered released from Israeli jail. Israeli soldiers arrested the Jewish-American reporter and three other journalists at a checkpoint in the West Bank on October 8. According to one of the jailed reporters, @the_andrey_x, the soldiers blindfolded them tightly, roughed them up, drawing guns on them at one point, and hauled them off to detention in Jerusalem. “The soldiers… illegally requested that the journalists hand in their phones, and when they refused, the soldiers pointed a gun at one of the journalists, hit him with their hands and the barrel of a gun, then dragged him out of the car and slammed him onto the concrete. When lying on the ground, they pointed 2 guns at his head. The rest of the journalists exited the car and the military raided it, confiscating phones, cameras, and personal items,” said @the_andrey_x. Andrey recalled that in the course of abusing the journalists, “The soldiers told the female Israeli photographer that she should have been raped by Hamas.” While Loffredo’s colleagues were released after 11 hours, the “Judea and Samaria” division of the Israeli police opened an investigation into Loffredo for supposedly “aiding the enemy in a time of war.”
[...]
Though [Judge] Lomp ordered the journalist be released, she gave police until October 20 to continue their digital strip search. Until then, Loffredo will remain without his passport and will not be permitted to return home to his family in the US. Just what Israeli officials hope to uncover in their search of Loffredo’s cell phone remains a mystery. Also unclear is why the investigation focuses exclusively on Loffredo, and not on any of the numerous other reporters who reported the locations of the Iranian strikes.
[...]
The Grayzone published a statement on October 10 unequivocally rejecting the Israeli police’s outrageous accusations against Loffredo. We repeat that we stand by Jeremy’s report. The claim that Loffredo and The Grayzone represent Israel’s enemy in wartime merely suggests that the Israeli government views the American people and free press as a legitimate target. Indeed, we are an independent outlet with no relationship, financial or otherwise, with any foreign country or political organization. As we fight the fraudulent charges against Jeremy, we ask readers to contact the US State Department and urge them to act in his defense. The US has an obligation to defend its journalists without political prejudice, particularly when they are fulfilling the vital task of providing the public with facts on the ground.

While Loffredo has been released, he is not allowed to leave Israel and I understand the authorities still have his devices. They will be going through all those devices to see what dirt they can find, similar to what counter-terrorism police did to Sarah Wilkinson in the UK. Since Loffredo is no longer facing charges, this is surely an abuse of power. It’s noteworthy that Loffredo’s Twitter account is currently locked. I’m assuming the IDF or Israeli police have done this so no one can amplify his posts. They will be going through all of his DMs and handing over his contacts to the CIA and other intelligence agencies so they can be monitored like terrorists. It’s hard to overstate the risk you take by raising awareness of Israeli war crimes. Everyone with any sort of platform is putting their freedom and safety in jeopardy. Now imagine the balls it takes to travel to Israel and report the truth when Israel has imposed a truth embargo. The only journalists who could be considered more courageous than Loffredo are the ones in Gaza and the West Bank. Thankfully, this whole thing appears to have backfired on Israel because all that has been achieved is that Loffredo and the Grayzone have received a massive boost. Many more eyeballs will now be on their reporting. It’s not exactly a happy ending though. The genocide is still ongoing and we’ve all seen the horrors that Israel inflicts upon its prisoners. We can only pray that Loffredo was treated humanely during his detention, but given how he was treated during the arrest, I doubt that was the case. The people who’ve killed 175 journalists abuse their own laws to crack down on free speech and our governments call them an “important ally” and abuse our citizens on Israel’s behalf. Anybody can be treated like a terrorist at any time simply for telling the truth about war criminals. We’re living in a truly insane time, and if Loffredo had been given Gonzalo Lira treatment (detained in Ukraine and tortured to death), the Biden administration would simply have shrugged. Take some time to think about that.

The Grayzone's Jeremy Loffredo visits highly sensitive Israeli military and intelligence sites hit by Iranian missiles, from the Nevatim Airbase in the Negev to the Mossad HQ in Tel Aviv, and documents the state's attempts to cover up the damage it suffered. Loffredo also encounters non-Jewish citizens of Israel denied bomb shelter access, and clear evidence that Israel's own citizens have been transformed into human shields.
Tumblr media
Israeli occupation forces have kidnapped journalist Jeremy Loffredo right after he put out this report on Iranian missiles on israel. Watch it and share.
Jeremy Loffredo is still unlawfully held by the occupation at the time of posting.

hey that jeremy loffredo guy who interviewed israelis blocking aid to Gaza is like an insane conspiracy theorist. if you google him he's really associated with anti-vax, 5G conspiracies, etc.
not that this makes the footage he recorded less relevant or important, it just sort of feels like he's an opportunist exploiting the suffering of Palestinians for his own weird agenda
wow you're right, thanks for the heads up. (to save everyone time, here is his extensive author page on an infamous antivax disinformation site)
I'm always a little leery of the concept of "embedding" with fascists anyway so I almost didn't rb for that reason. I think his footage is important to the extent that he's capturing specific individuals' confessions of genocidal intent and actions, which will be useful for holding those individuals accountable, but the story has been covered by other more ethical journalists. so I'm gonna delete my rb and share these instead:

Facebook has come under scrutiny for censoring an article by Matt Orfalea that reported on the arrest of American journalist Jeremy Loffredo in Israel. Loffredo was arrested shortly after publishing a detailed investigative report on Iranian missile strikes near significant Israeli military and intelligence locations, including an Israeli Air Force base and Mossad headquarters.
Tumblr media
Loffredo has since been released pending an investigation and is not allowed to leave the country.
Orfalea’s article highlighted the circumstances surrounding Loffredo’s arrest and his findings that reportedly contradicted some official Israeli statements about the missile attacks.
According to the Times of Israel, as noted by Orfaela, “The exact locations of such impacts and damage are barred from publication by the IDF censor.”
Facebook’s censorship of Orfalea’s piece raises significant concerns about freedom of the press and the role of social media platforms in moderating content related to sensitive geopolitical issues. Orfalea questioned the transparency and fairness of Facebook’s content moderation processes, especially given the public interest in Loffredo’s arrest and the broader implications for press freedom.

First it was Rachel Corrie, then Shireen Abu Akleh, then Aaron Bushnell, then Jacob Flickinger, now Jeremy Loffredo.
If you still think biden, harris, trump, or any of the government would ever put their own people above israel, think again.
The US government will let their own people suffer and die if that means they can serve their master.

🚨 Yesterday, the IOF abducted, blindfolded, and transported 5 journalists to a military base. Among the journalists held is American journalist Jeremy Loffredo of the Grayzone, whose phone was stolen and who remains in custody over 24 hours later until now. The other journalists were reportedly released. This abduction comes just a few days after Grayzone published a video (https://youtu.be/nu0zptW49eM)of Jeremy investigating the effects of Iran's True Promise 2 (https://t.me/PalestineResist/60222) operation, visiting the "Nevatim" Air Base and Mossad HQ in "Tel Aviv" to document the damage and the zionist entity's attempts to cover it up.

'Kill them all': inside the Israeli blockade on Gaza aid
youtube
Journalist Jeremy Loffredo goes inside the grassroots Israeli campaign to block desperately needed aid to the besieged Gaza Strip and elicits the shockingly candid views of the Jewish Israeli nationalists manning the barricades. Setting out on a bus caravan through illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, Loffredo arrives at the Kerem Shalom crossing to Gaza, filming Israeli citizens as they physically block trucks loaded with flour and other essential goods. There, a reservist who served in the military assault on Gaza confesses to an array of war crimes, including blowing up the offices of UN centers dedicated to providing food to the local population. Loffredo then joins nationalists on a march toward Gaza, where they hope to establish new settlements after the population is violently driven out. This original Grayzone report was produced thanks to viewers like you.

The Israeli Military confirmed that it killed Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar in southern Gaza on Thursday, in what reports are describing as an “unplanned operation.” The IDF released a video that appears to show Sinwar’s final moments, in which he threw a stick at the drone filming him, in one final act of defiance.
Max Blumenthal, Editor of The Grayzone, noted that while Netanyahu may be patting himself on the back for killing leaders like Sinwar and Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in the short-term, Israel is lacking strategy in the long-term, as it continues to carry out massacres in the region and further destabilizes itself as a country in the process.
