location: along the beach, right by The Anchor
status: closed for @jeremylincoln
Peri did her damn best to block out a lot of her childhood; she'd be the first to openly admit it. But if there was one thing she wished she hadn't let slip away somewhere between 'I kissed Sarah Wheeler under the bleachers' and 'that one time I read an entire essay on Eminem lyrics in front of the class, then finished with a rap' it was this: Towns like Briar Ridge were called small for a reason.
If you decided to get 'call me a good girl' wasted and hookup with a (mostly) stranger your first night back in town chances were you'd still have to see them the next morning... the next week... the night you popped into Chapman's for hot Cheetos and backup batteries.
Those run-ins were a coincidence. She wasn’t sure what to call now, nor could she puzzle out why a simple morning run landed her right back at the scene of this particular 'Jeremy Lincoln' shaped crime.
It’s not that Peri was a stranger to one night stands. She wasn’t. Typically, though, when she said she’d only be around for a few days she meant it. For all her escapades she was woefully inexperienced with having to face her 6’5” consequences.
Did she turn back and run the other way? Crack an inappropriate joke about this not being the first time he saw her lost for breath, legs shaking? Should she high five him three weeks late, give him a slap on the ass, and declare ‘good game’?
Decisions. So many decisions.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, after what was probably a few two many seconds bent over, hands at her knees, and blatantly staring she went with, “I’d ask if you live here—” it wasn’t past seven, was The Anchor even open yet?— “but I think I already know the answer.” Because she’d been to his place. Hell, she'd probably left a forgotten earring behind to prove it.

The Magic of Mozart
THE MAGIC FLUTE The REP, Birmingham, Thursday 5th September 2024 I’ve lost count of how many productions I’ve seen of this opera but every single one of them was a lavish spectacle.  Until this one from Wild Arts.  Director James Hurley strips things down so all we get is a circle centre stage, in and around which the action takes place.  An orchestra of ten musicians form an arc behind the…

LOCATION: Oakland Elementary and Middle School WHEN: During the Hurricane at BR Summer Music Fest FOR: Closed starter for @jeremylincoln
Leyla hurried down the dimly lit hallway of Oakland Elementary as she attempted to keep up with Jeremy, her sneakers squeaking on the old linoleum floors. The place smelled exactly as she remembered it: a mix of pencil shavings, dust, and old wood. She shivered slightly, partly from the cold seeping in through the aging walls and partly due to being absolutely soaked like everyone else in a bid to seek shelter at the school. She'd left Billie with her brother, thankful that amidst all the chaos she'd finally found them again. The brunette had instructed her daughter to stay put, but she lowkey worried that knowing her daughter, Billie wouldn't listen. She tried to push those worries aside and focus on the task she'd volunteered for. They were supposed to be finding the electricity breaker, whilst getting distracted taking a trip down memory lane, it seemed. Jeremy was beside her, the flashlight from his phone casting long shadows as they turned another corner. "I swear this place used to feel bigger," Leyla murmured, casting him a glance, her lips tugging into a small wistful smile. "You were a couple of years above me, right? I think I remember you."
As they approached the end of the hallway, Leyla pushed open a pair of heavy doors leading into a dim, cluttered room she had never been in before. Old equipment and supplies were scattered about, and it seemed as good a place as any to hide a circuit box. "This looks like it could have a circuit breaker, right?" she asked, stepping inside and surveying the dusty surroundings. The door slammed shut behind them with a heavy thud, and at first, she didn’t think twice about it. That was, until she tried to pull it open. The handle wouldn't budge. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” she muttered, jiggling the handle more forcefully. After a moment she stepped back, looking at the stubborn door, and her heart sank. Her greatest fear felt like it was coming to life. "—Jeremy, I think we’re stuck."

starter for: @jeremylincoln location: briar ridge summer music fest
Alara was just getting to the point where the buzz she was feeling was beginning to make her question if she wasn't having a good time after all. She'd regretted showing up for the festival the second her cowboy boots touched the sand and had immediately set out on a mission to drink until the choice to attend didn't seem quite so stupid anymore. Making her 'grand entrance' back to the town she'd tried to leave behind - and failed at doing so - twice now, at such a public gathering of pretty much the whole damn town, wasn't her brightest idea ever, but hey, who was Alara Kaplan if she wasn't kicking things off with a bang?
But as the music blared, the sun began to set over the water, and the warm summer breeze danced over her skin, Alara couldn't help but lose herself a bit to the night. As RAYE's 'Worth It' floated over the beach, she found herself swaying to the beat, her black vest and matching cut off jeans hugging her curves, when she felt eyes on her. She couldn't explain how she'd known, but as she turned around, her eyes, as if drawn like a moth to a flame, found Jeremy's and Alara's breath caught in her chest. For a brief moment, she was a teenage girl again with a crush on her best friend's ridiculously good looking older brother, and the giddiness of finding his eyes on her had her looking down at her feet, biting her lip as if she were embarrassed. But then she remembered who the fuck she was, and as her head snapped up to meet his gaze head on, a smirk firmly planted itself on her lips.
Tumblr media
Just because they'd finally slept together after spending practically her entire childhood and teenage years hoping he'd notice her didn't mean she'd fawn all over him now. Instead, Alara proceeded to act like she hadn't seen him, continuing to dance to the music and only occasionally letting her gaze flit in his direction. Just as she was beginning to let loose again, a hand snaked around her waist, and someone was pulling her back against their body. Alara froze. Turning around, she shoved the man off of her. "Didn't your mother teach you it's polite to ask first?" Storming away, she headed in the direction of the drink tent, painfully aware of the fact that this would mean she would be the one initiating contact with Jeremy. And in this little cat and mouse game they played, that just wasn't as fun.
But what could she do? Letting out a huff of a breath, and shaking off the creepy encounter, she moved to lean against the bar near him, ordering a whiskey on the rocks before finally daring to glance in his direction again. "So what? You're too cool to join in the festivities?" she asked doing her best to keep her voice teasing and unaffected as she looked at him. How did he manage to get even more attractive in the year since she'd seen him?

"I gotta say, this place looks so much different than it used to. But, in a good way. Did you redecorate?" Back before she made it big, the Lincolns were kind enough to let her live out her childhood dreams by performing cover songs for their customers while coming into the Anchor. It always felt safe and comfortable, like performing for family. Which in some ways is what the Lincolns felt like.
