From these pictures he seemed like such a gentle, caring soul, and I love how his humour and love for music and drumming comes across in these photos. One of the greats, thank you for all that you did.

Modest Mouse, Pixies, & Cat Power Live Show Preview: 8/30-8/31, The Salt Shed, Chicago

This promises to be one of the best bills of the summer, if you're a fan of critically acclaimed indie rock from the 80's, 90's, and 2000's. Pacific Northwest rockers Modest Mouse, Boston punks Pixies, and legendary singer-songwriter Cat Power have teamed up for a tour, making a stop at The Salt Shed tonight and tomorrow night. Each of the three has released an album in the past couple years and should play from it.

Modest Mouse's The Golden Casket (Epic), a couple years old, would end up being the final album with late, great drummer Jeremiah Green, who passed away last December. While they've enlisted Damon Cox as a touring drummer, and it will be strange not to see Green banging away during "Trucker's Atlas" and "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes", the band has long been unpredictable anyway on a night by night basis, spreading the wealth across their vast discography.

Pixies' Doggerel (BMG), meanwhile, is probably the band's best effort since Kim Deal left the band, both in terms of the consistency of the songs' hooks and riffs and Black Francis' more understated vocal performance, rejecting the increasing gruffness found on previous recent efforts like 2019's Beneath the Eyrie. Perhas adding a new voice to the songwriting mix--guitarist Joey Santiago on "Dregs of the Wine" and "Pagan Man"--paid off. Of course, it's the songs from the band's debut EP and first four albums that will garner the most crowd approval.

As for Cat Power, Covers (Domino) is yet another entry in Chan Marshall's interpretive oeuvre, and she should certainly work in these tracks among, well, other covers as well as favorites from Moon Pix, You Are Free, and Sun. Some inspired tunes include a surprisingly bopping version of Frank Ocean's "Bad Religion", a Mellotron solo take on The Pogues' "A Pair of Brown Eyes", and "Unhate", a re-record of "Hate" from The Greatest.

8. 🧢 CLOTHING: What is your MC currently wearing in the most recent scene of your WIP?

I answered this for Lonan HERE but let's answer for Jeremiah who's obviously winning at "who's rachel's favourite narrator right now"

Jeremiah is THE fashion icon of all my characters because he actually has TASTE. If I dressed well, I would dress like Jeremiah (I'M TRYINGGG). This is why I'm gonna project and give him all my jackets :) because I have the best taste in jackets!

He doesn't really have a signature outfit to me in Changing States because he's always switching things up because he is a ~~~fashion guy. But I've been imagining him in some sort of white/cream silk button down (sometimes patterned), a gold herringbone chain, and midwash wide-legged jeans, which is kind of what he wears here in this BB scene:

Harrison sits up, removes the hat from his eyes. The room re-saturates like a kitchen sponge in sudsy water and there’s Jeremiah. Clear-skinned, bright-eyed Jeremiah. He doesn’t look like a man who shared a joint with Harrison last night, who drank just as many cocktails on that dance floor and perhaps even more. He’s changed into a pair of ironed jeans and a white cotton button-up he hasn’t done up all the way. A gold herringbone necklace glints off his throat.

and what Jeremiah packs in CS:

He packs light. Two t-shirts, two pairs of jeans, a floral silk blouse, his herringbone chain, a pair of celestial drop earrings. The amber rosary his grandmother gifted him. A lilac headset. A mixtape labelled: Castaways and Lovers Meet that his cousin gifted him three years ago. These are the essentials. He zips them all up into a leather duffel bag, then waters his monsterra. He’ll leave a note for Dixie down the hall—water Gillian? Back soon. :)
