I guess I've been on a bit of a drawing kick recently. So, I Finally created a piece of fanart I've been thinking about for a while! Jenniboo311 has a really great identity reveal series called 'Just a Tired Dad' and it includes some super cute dad!peter. This drawing is a scene from the second part, Mobbed.

"Your mother's gonna kill me," the vigilante mutters to his daughter, before raising his wrist and letting a web fly from the shooters he always keeps attached. The crowd cheers at getting to see the Web Slinger in action, but immediately realizes it's taking away their quarry and begins to shout angrily, some breaking into disappointed sobs as he quickly zips out of their midst and swings out of sight one handed. His baseball cap quickly loses its battle with the wind, however, and it flutters to the street below, a surge of people interrupting traffic as they fight over who gets to keep it. - Mobbed by Jenniboo311

Chapter 3 of Starting Blind is up! Featuring some Matt and Foggy chitchat, some Ned, and some more Spider-Man and Matt rooftop heart to hearts.

For now, this chapter’s excerpt is beneath the cut as always~

“Over here,” he says lightly as he raises a hand. He doesn’t move away from the smoke stack, comfortable enough using it to rest his back. “I wasn’t sure you’d come.”

Spider-Man grins beneath the mask and all but trots over. He’s acting differently than last night. More cheerful. It doesn’t seem to go deeper than surface level, and Matt has to imagine he’s putting on some kind of front for him because he’s a civilian.

“Course I came!” He stands with his chin raised and an air of confidence, pausing a few feet away from Matt. “Daredevil said you were asking about me, and I didn’t want you to be worrying or anything.”

Matt’s head tilts as Peter’s heart speeds up ever so slightly. “Should I be worrying?”

“No.” Peter’s brow furrows. He answered too quickly and Matt can tell that he knows it. “Why do you ask?”

Matt casually twists his cane in his hands and shrugs. “Because I found you on my roof the other day. In Hell’s Kitchen, where you don’t normally go. Wouldn’t you be worried if there was a teenager on your roof in the middle of the night?”

There’s an awkward stall in the conversation as Spider-Man tries to work out which part of that he’s supposed to unpack. After a few moments, he crosses his arms and relaxes his posture, but Matt can tell exactly how forced it is. “Who said I was a teenager?”

Matt resists another chuckle. That was easy. “You did, just now. Really, you don’t want to talk about the part where I was worried Spider-Man might jump off my roof, but the part where I called you a teenager, that’s where you’re stuck?”

Spider-Man’s arms drop. So does hit jaw, apparently - Matt can hear the shift in his mask and it’s kind of comical to imagine. “I’m not-”

“You are.” Matt cuts him off with a smirk, but it falls flat half a second later. “It’s not my place to lecture you, though. I’m sure you have parents for that.”

Spider-Man’s heart skips a beat and Matt nearly curses himself. Did he say the wrong thing?

“I have an aunt,” Spider-Man says before Matt can overthink it too much more. Peter seems to have decided that being at least a little honest is better than trying to deny the accusation and digging himself an even deeper hole. “And yeah, she’s got the whole lecture thing down to a science, don’t worry.”

“Then I’ll leave that part to her.” Matt nods to himself before gesturing to the ground. “Do you think you can sit with me for a minute or two? Or do you need to get back to Queens?”

Spider-Man glances over his shoulder, likely taking in the skyline behind him. Matt is sure he’s going to say no - why would Spider-Man bother to sit and chat with a random blind guy when h e should be out there helping people? - but to Matt’s surprise, he shrugs and says, “I can stay.”

'What do you want to say to yourself in a year?'

The video from last year plays while current Spidey watches. "Uhh, I dunno. Hope you're doing okay? I hope your people are safe and well, and that you still have most of your limbs?"

Current Spider-Man laughs as the previous video freezes playback. "Well I broke a few bones, but didn't lose any limbs thankfully. And my people are safe and thriving." His voice is warm and he sounds nothing but thankful. "Future Spidey, I hope you're successful in your ongoing pursuit of knowledge, and that you've spent the year trying to better yourself and make a positive difference in people's lives in both large and small ways."

Spider-Man, of course.

Did you write more, less, or roughly what you expected?

At the end of 2020, I set myself the goal of 500,000, not realising I’d hit a massive bout of writer’s block and be incapable of putting words together for most of the year. So, uh... Much less than expected, but I’m proud I achieved what I did.

What’s your own favourite story of this year?

I am fond of everything I’ve posted this year, but finishing lead me home—and, subsequently, the when I’m with you series that I started at the beginning of my foray into this fandom—was a big deal to me.

What is your most under-appreciated story of the year?

Probably the world will never take my heart because it was very out of the norm for me, but I loved it anyway and as long as the recipient of it (here’s looking at you, Seek) was happy, I’m all good.

What’s your most appreciated story of 2021?

to see through all the smoke and dirt was my NWH sequel that got more attention in a week than every other fic I’ve written all year so... Safe to say it was that one.

Biggest fanfic-related disappointment of 2021?

No disappointments! Even when I was at my wit's end with writer’s block and thought I’d never write again, I leant some valuable lessons about how I manage my time and expectations.

Biggest fanfic-related surprise of 2021?

I learned this year how to collaborate! I never thought I’d be any good at it, but getting to discuss and develop and write with some of the people I’ve so long admired was such a joy and honour for me.

Something you are looking forward to working on in 2022?

2022 the year of FINISHING MY WIPS! I have six multi-chapters that need finishing and am looking forward to finally seeing them complete.

I’m also vibrating with excitement for @spideychellebigbang 2022! Learning the ropes of running a fandom event was dead interesting and I can’t wait to see what people come up with for the second year.

1. Your favourite fic that you've written (or just one you want to give a shout out to).

I think my favorite would have to be my baby, my first multi-chap in this fandom,  Misconceptions! A lot of love and work went into that fic, and I’m so proud of it! I spent about a year and a half with it, with 19 chapters, and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!! It’s also what got me really involved with Spideychelle and has given such wonderful friends, so there’s a lot of sentimental stuff w it :’)

2. Your favourite fic title that you've come up with.

Well, the runner up for this has yet to be released, and there are some great options that I have posted, BUT I have to say Dance of the Leeds, which was what I wrote for Secret Santa last year! It’s based off of the Dance of the Reeds (or Dance of the Reed Pipes) from the Nutcracker. I love it just because I think it fits the fic so nicely lmao Ned plays matchmaker for Peter, not realizing that Peter and MJ are already together 

It’s a lively little song for a lively little fic!

3. How do you get inspiration to write?

Rewatching source matierial (Any of the spidey movies, if it’s an AU of another story, I rewatch that; like Juno, Pushing Daisies, etc.) or reading, both other writer’s stuff or my own!

4. Your favourite genre/subgenre of fic to write.

I absolutely love writing silly friends to lovers fics where the two characters are so dumb and in love with each other!! Really, just romances in general. It’s about the love, as marie would say 

5. Do you have other hobbies?

music! I play piano and ukulele and I like to sing! I also enjoy making different arrangements of songs I like for various music groups (a cappella, concert band, choir, etc.) 

and gaming! there are only like three games in my rotation rn, so if anyone has any recs, pls hmu lmao I play sims, planet zoo, and red dead fdslkafdsj

6. A fun fact about you that a lot of people may not know.

I am the youngest of eight kids! not really a fun fact, but it’s always the one i throw out there lmao

10. And finally, how has your experience in fandom been?

Honestly, very positive! I’ve been here in Spideychelle for a while now, and it’s truly one of the nicest, most welcoming and supportive fandoms I’ve been in, and I’ve met some of my greatest friends through it, so for that I’m so incredibly grateful!!

you wanted to hear abt the Bar!AU, so i am making a post. ​i have no time to write this fanfic, so i give this prompt/idea to anyone who wants to use it. 

Hydra is absolutely the shady bar in That One Alleyway. yk the one that everybody knows about but never goes to?? hydra is That bar. there’s rumors that the owner is an escaped war criminal but that’s all they are. rumors. you can frequently see bloodied men stumbling out of their back exit on the weekend. nobody Good goes to the Hydra Bar, and they want to keep it that way. 

on the flip side, the SHIELD bar is two streets up to the left, and it’s the bar that the locals frequent. a noted presence is tattoo artist natasha romanoff, and her partners maria hill and clint barton. the bouncers are steve and james (though james goes by bucky to anyone who knows him well), childhood best friends who moved back to brooklyn after serving in the army. tony stark is the man who owns STARK Labs, an old sci-tech company that his dad made. he’s turning the whole thing into a clean energy company, much to the disdain of his father. thor odinson is the bartender, along with his sibling loki who mainly lounges around the bar. SHIELD bar is owned by nick fury, and his protégé phil coulson. 

 the main confict of this Bar!AU would be when the SHIELD bar crew finds out that Hydra has been secretly working with Oscorp (rival company to tony’s STARK Labs) to give them kidnapped children so that they can ~enhance~ them.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! Every one usually, though sometimes if they don’t have an account I might gloss over it, just because I’m not sure if they would even see the response, but I usually do anyway! I appreciate every single comment so much, and when I update a fic I make sure to go back and respond to every comment the chapter before.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the most angsty ending?

Oh boy I don’t know if I have written anything with an angsty ending, like ever kjdhflkjshdf That’s generally not why I write, I want to be a comfort writer to my readers. Hm... (Also cause I don’t finish fics lol) I actually don’t have a good answer to this one and probably never will lskjdhf I guess maybe an old one on ff called “Annabeth Goes To War” because Percy is MESSED UP when she saves him.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I don’t think so. The most I can think of at the moment was one where I got a comment like halfyway through the chapters just saying “I’m stopping here” and some criticism on pacing but it wasn’t like... outright hate. Mostly just unwelcome criticism. But I’m also not that popular and haven’t been since RWBY. Might have gotten some more hateful one on some of those, I think.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Uhhhh Dyde21 has never posted smut. >.>

What’s your all time favourite ship?

Oof. Honest answer is Tylash, my OCs you can find on my blog here. Aside from that, lately it’s been Peter/Gwen honestly. Been deep in their feels for some reason. Then Spideychelle. Then Percabeth.

What’s a WIP that you still want to finish, but you don’t think you ever will?

Every one on Ao3 skdjhflkdsf. The real answer is probably an old Percy Jackson one called Cafe Half-Caff I was really proud of that story and it was really well liked but I’m just kinda out of that fandom now so it’s unlikely I’ll go back to it. Or the last chapter of Arc’s Metalworks from RWBY because that was right before Season 3 ending happened lol and I haven’t written for it in a while.

What are your writing strengths?

I’ve been told I do a really good job describing action. Which I love doing, so I’m glad! I think I can also do dialogue decently, but that might just be because I find myself hilarious at times. 

What are your writing weaknesses?

I would say convey deep emotions/traumatic moments maybe. I tend to be a more action/decription based writer. I don’t do a lot of flowery speech, or do I do deep dive into emotions usually. I can hopefully make the reader feel things by the actions/words. I think my writing tends to be a bit bland or cliche too.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it’s great as long as there’s a translation, either at the end of after the section. I’ve seen it before. It’s actually super common in a lot of Spider-mom fics with nat speaking some russian, and I’ve gotten used to it (and learned to recognize little spider lol) 

What’s the first fandom you ever wrote for?

I think it was Soul Eater way way way back in the day. I can’t recall anything before that.

What’s your favourite fic you’ve ever written?

Ooo, I really do like Cafe Half-caff, but I think it might be Passing the Web Shooter, it has domestic spideychelle, Peter’s kid, and a happy non-death ending for him. It also has my favorite line I’ve ever written in fanfic I think:

“I love New York but I’m not going to let it take my dad from me.“

I have no idea haha It used to be Phoenix on the rocks, because I like Phoenix’s but then I changed it. And I have no clue what it was before that. Oh, and because a flaming bird on ice makes no sense...

Tony is pointedly ignoring the man and aggressively smiling at Peter with a manic glint in his eyes and Peter’s Spidey Sense immediately flares up in warning. “Have you ever, uh, been camping?”

“Not once,” Tony says brightly, tucking his hands into the pockets of his, absolutely garish, hiking pants.

Thank you guys for sticking with us this last week and we hope you enjoy the last chapter! The excerpt is beneath the cut as always~

He’s in the mural. Spider-Man, swinging off of some structure or another that’s not in the image itself. He’s behind Iron Man’s silhouette, next to Thor and the Valkyrie woman that he didn’t get to properly meet.

Somehow seeing himself among them in the completed work of art feels better than when it was still a work in progress. It doesn’t hurt as much to look at. In fact, he might even feel a little pride.

Better, yes, it feels better to see it now, but it still hurts a little too.

He lets out a thin sigh and forces himself to tilt his head back and look away. He looks at the sky instead, wishing he could see the stars.

“Karen?” he murmurs to break his own silence.

“Yes, Peter?” Her voice makes him smile tonight. The warmth it brings is a welcome relief in the cold city air.

“Have you got anything for me yet?”

There’s a pause. He watches the scanners on his HUD and frowns. “Nothing yet, Peter. Perhaps it’s a good time to call it a night? It is nearing 11 p.m. and while your Aunt is lenient on your curfew as of late, I am sure she would enjoy having you home on time.”

He chuckles softly. “She’s working late tonight, Karen, but yeah. You’re probably right.” He pushes himself to his feet and stretches. His eyes find the mural one last time and a small smile catches on his lips after all.

Every day is easier than the last. In the meantime, Peter just has to keep breathing.

It’s okay to not be okay.

He huffs out a quick breath and shakes it off. “Alright,” he murmurs to himself. “Home again, home again.”

So I've been saying for awhile now that I plan to do an identity reveal for Spider-Man in my Social Media Butterfly series but I'm really on the fence about when to do it. I've been having a lot of fun writing Spidey in these interviews, but I'm sure it would be fun to write Peter as well. What do you think: do the reveal soon or carry on with his secret identity for awhile longer?
