Final post for ARH1000 “ What is ART ” 4/20/2022
We will not have a virtual today. This will be your last blog entry.
You will complete this by 8pm and submit a link on Twitter by that time.
The final post for this class will be as follows:
On the first day I asked you what your vision of art was.
What did you think good art was vs art that you dislike.
Having gone through the semester , you learned vocabulary and
listened to the lectures about how the principles and elements of art help us understand art.
With that knowledge in mind you will answer the following questions:
How did your view of art changed?
How did your perception of art changed after visiting art venues?
How did it change after engaging in art assignments?
Your final thoughts will address your understanding of art and the vocabulary you learned in class.
You will also include two images that best define your understanding of aesthetics.
This entry should express a slightly different view than from the first day of class.
Include a photo of your first post in this post to note difference.
Explain how that perception has changed and what activities you engaged in during the
semester that helped you understand art better.
Conclude with final thoughts as to how you will support the arts going forward.

FINAL ASSIGNMENT 4/13/2022
Using a trading card format students will work to create a series of Modern Art Cards.
This assignment will involve the use of mix media and paints.
These trading cards should have been purchased last week at an art and supply store.
You will look at Abstract and Non-Objective artwork from the class textbook.
You can find these movements in the latter part of your textbook (chapt.23 )
You will create works of art inspired by those artists.
The idea is not that you copy the work but rather that you create your own interpretation
of their particular style.
I will provide a list below of the artists to look at:
Jackson Pollock , Helen Frankenthaler, Hans Hoffman, Mark Rothko,
Robert Motherwell, Asger Jorn, Willem de Kooning, Norman Lewis,
Alberto Burri, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Lee Krasner, Gerard Ritchter.
You will complete a total of 10 Artist Trading Cards only. ***
You will work using acrylic paints and brushes.
Be creative, explore the process of art creation as you read the theory
and method each of these artists employed.
Once completed your work will be documented in your *blog
with an artist statement explaining your process.
Ask yourself  who your favorite artists was to emulate?
What was your favorite process and why?
Also, try and explain to your readers the following:
How did you approached creating balance and harmony in the production of these cards?
Finally upload a photo of ALL TEN CARDS to your blog.
This entry to your *blog needs to be entered by * 4/19/2022 at 5pm
Most importantly, try to enjoy the assignment.
See below previous examples of the cards by other students:

Museum Visit Week ( Virtual or in person ) - 4/6/2022
We are arriving to the end of the semester. This will be the last assignment before Final.
There is no time at this point to procrastinate.
On Thursday (tomorrow ) I will add the information for your final assignment.
It will be producing artists cards , that will be your Final assignment. It will require that you
purchase trading cards and use acrylic or craft paints, as I stated last week.
I will post a blog after this one that shows the following:
Assignments for part A of your blog
Assignments for part B of your blog
You will note I include some extra credit assignments.
Those will be done in lieu of (a) missing earlier assignment.
( note: missing assignments cannot be Wynwood Walls , Gallery or Museum visit or
any of the art assignments: Collage, River Rock or Kusama paintings )
MUSEUM VISIT
The museum Visit can be done in person or virtually.
If you choose the virtual version , you will visit two museums.
I will add links at the end of the class blog.
If you choose to attend in person , I recommend the following venues:
1) Perez art Museum (PAMM)
2) Rubell Museum
3) Lowe Art Museum at UM
4) NSU Art Museum Ft. Lauderdale
5) MoCA- NoMi - North Miami
6) MoAD- Wolfson Campus
* For in person attend only one space.
The Perez Art Collection has some days that are free. Please check their websites for such days.
( PAMM Free days Second Saturday see the link below)
https://6883.blackbaudhosting.com/6883/page.aspx?pid=196&tab=2&txobjid=26eeffb9-f8b6-43dc-9d78-56138d4f8694
If you choose the virtual method , make sure you note that in your blog entry.
The virtual experience is similar to google earth. You will move the little figure on the
right side when you enter the virtual space and guide it into the museum.
When you are doing the virtual experience, I suggest you do this on a laptop.
For this assignment plan to spend at least an hour or so walking around and looking at art.
Start at entrance and then proceed to the different areas where the art work is displayed.
A Museum is very different from a Collection or Gallery.
I want you to try and figure why that is.
As you go around the space , pay attention to the artwork. What type of art do you see?
a) Representational ?
b) Non Objective ?
c) Abstact?
d) All of the above?
How is the work displayed ?
How is it selected for each specific room ?
Ask a guide in the museum if you can not figure it out on your own.
Now try and find an artwork tat speaks to you.
Choose one work and write notes about it .
You will need to add a reflection paragraph regarding that work for this assignment.
Remember to include name of artwork, size, date and title.
For the class blog titled Museum Visit, you will include the following:
1) Provide a description of the space, inside and out.
2) Information regarding the collection.
3) How in your opinion is a museum different from say a Collection?
4) How is visiting a Museum different from visiting a space like Wynwood walls?
5) Which do you prefer?
6) How does one space make you feel in contrast to another.
7) Close this entry by including a reflection paragraph regarding your favorite work of art.
a)Describe the work.
b)Name of artist
c) Name of Artwork
d) Size of artwork
e)Year of creation
f)Media
You will then go on to develop an additional paragraph or two explaining the following:
What did you see (descriptive)
What do you think is going on ( Subjective analysis ).
I will grade this part according to the guidelines I gave you in class.
Review your notes for that.
Make sure you have included the following information for this blog post:
1) The museum(s) you chose.
2) The day you attended.
3) A brief description of the collection.
4) How you went about choosing a work of art.
5) What do you see.(objective response)
6) What you think is going on. (subjective response )
7) And Concluding paragraph.
This assignment above will be graded as a midterm assignment.
You need to address all points noted on this entry.
NOTE: for virtual visit you must research the details of the painting online.

Art Collection,Gallery, Wynwood Art Walls & Archeological River Rock Project -3/30/22
This is a three part assignment.
First part is an art activity that can be done during class tonight.
Once you complete it you will submit a blog entry with a photo of your rock.
The second & Third part will be done throughout the week and through the weekend.
FIRST ASSIGNMENT- RIVER ROCK
Grab a River Rock with a Smooth surface. Create designs on it using any material available.
As you think about painting your rock, think of designs as a way to communicate an idea.
In the absence of language, how would you express yourself?
Would it be through line , color, shape, all combined?
You can use acrylic paints, enamel, crayons, sharpies anything you want.
What designs would you incorporate in your rock?
Think of motifs, can you create a language using shapes, colors, lines ?
Next,
I want you to think about 300 years in the future.
Imagine if an archeologist found your River Rock somewhere .
What could they decipher about you and the world you lived based on your designs?
Lastly, create an added document that could help a person in the future understand your world.
For example, I can say that two purple lines next to each other mean love.
Or two red lines with two yellow lines means family.
Make up your own language and explain it in a post.
This is a play on antiquity with reference to the Rosetta Stone.
Only once the stone was deciphered where we able to get a grasp of Egyptian life.
Have fun with this assignment.
Once you finish it include a photo of your rock with a statement of intent to your blog.
Next,
As you go to the next art venues this weekend and next week, take your rock with you.
Photograph it at the different venues.
Include photos of your rock at the museum, gallery or wynwood walls.
Have fun with it.
SECOND & THIRD ASSIGNMENTS (2 different blogs )
Once you complete each visit (Galleries or Collections and Walls ) You will
Submit a blog for each venue.
A) That means a blog for the Walls.
B) A second blog for the Galleries.
Attending a 1) Art Collection Space and 2) Wynwood Walls. (And Gallery)
VISITING DE LA CRUZ COLLECTION or ICA.
Students will begin this week and Next to visit art spaces as mentioned in the last class.
This week you are visiting the Gallery or Collections below. Use one day for that.
You will then (or on the same visit) also visit Wynwood walls.
You have an option of the collections I mentioned before such as ICA, DeLaCruz
Or Espacio 23.
You should do this activity this week.
You will also add visiting the Grafitti Mecca known as Wynwood Walls in Midtown.
As you go about visiting you will take photos only of your favorite works.
Choose a couple three or four in each space, and two or three at Wynwood.
As you do so remember to take some additional photos with your date ( the River Rock).
Begin your art adventure with a tweet to start of the project.
You will also tweet a photo from the inside of the venue and when you finish.
This will tell me the day you went and how long you spent inside each space.
Once you come home or over the next week, you will create Two different blog entries.
First Gallery entry:
Create a post in your Tumblr blog that explains how visiting an Art Collection such as this,
Is important.
You want to ask yourself what the spirit of the collection is.
Use the language learned in class. (Non Objective, Abstract, Representational)
What is the collector buying ?
(Sometimes you can ask a worker about it but also use your
Own intuition as to why those works are purchased. )
Why do you think they have chosen a particular style of art?.
What is the content , message behind the works?
Do you think the collection reflects the collector’s personality?
What kind of personality do you think they have from your point of view?
What does it say to you about how they collect this type of work?
Finally talk about those works you enjoyed best.
Why did you choose those works (include your photos as you comment about it)
How did it feel to see art work in person?
Are you impressed by the size, the style? ( make sure you back up statements)
Do not say I was not impressed or I was amazed.
State instead what about the work impressed you the most.
For example,
“I truly enjoyed the large scale of the work. The size and scale ( language used in class)
Speaks to the strength and character of the artist’s message. He/She wanted to inspire
Curiosity in the viewer by including bright colors and textural elements.”
Finally, note the following in your blog:
Have you ever attended a space such as those. ( If you have reference them and compare it)
What is the most important thing you have learned from visiting these spaces?
End by posting a couple of photos of your rock inside those venues.
For the Wynwood Entry:
As you write about this event mention how it feels to walk around .
What has impressed you most about seeing such artworks.
Is it the themes represented, the largeness of the artworks.
Try to show photographs of the area, the Graffiti art on the walls.
Remember to take photos as well of your River Rock at that space.
If you find any galleries talk about visiting such space.
What did you see, how is the art indoors different from art outdoors?
What kind of people attend these spaces, how busy was the area?
How do you feel about experiencing art outdoors,
What kind of messages are these works and Art outdoors conveying,
are they regional messages ,
universal or local content?
If during the walk you entered any gallery explain the space.
You will need to compare these venues in the post next week.
Try to define what a gallery is based on this experience,
How it feels inside.
What type of art was displayed?
Elaborate and inform your reader.
Why should they attend and support the arts in this manner.
If you are able to pay and go inside the walls ,
Tweet a photo of yourself with the Shepard Fairey wall.
It is behind the entrance to Wynwood walls on 25th NW 2nd ave.
Expect to be there about an hour and a half for the walls same for the collections.
Shepard Fairey Wall.

Working with Painting Media, Yahoi Kusama - 3/23/2022 (week 7)
I have noticed many of you are on track doing your work accordingly.
Some of you though , are having difficulty submitting the work.
We will have a quick class tonight to allow for those students to catch up .
Those students missing assignments, please note this is the last week to do so.
The assignments posted below will be started and completed after I dismiss the class tonight.
You will review the notes regarding color from last week’s lecture .
If you missed the lecture , look through your book for the information.
You are reviewing the section regarding Color.
Once you do that then you can begin with the assignments below.
Assignment one - watch videos (due tonight by 11pm)
I have included several videos regarding the artist Yayoi Kusama.
There was an amazing exhibition here prior to the pandemic of her work, the infinity mirrors.
Watch all videos, take some notes regarding how she works and her color references.
What do you like about her imagery?
What do you think about her message?
Does she have a message or is she completely non-objective in her approach to art?
Talk about how she uses the Principles and Elements of Art.
Which Principles are prevalent in her work, which Elements?
How does she balance her compositions?
Use your understanding from last week’s lecture to write about her works.
You will be writing a reflection post regarding the videos after class tonight.
That will be assignment No.1 for today .
Assignment Two - Yayoi Kusama Inspired Art/ Create 2 artworks (due by 5pm 3/27/22)
Materials needed:
Acrylic paints (beginner’s set)
Stock paper (Bristol or other thick quality paper)
Canvas board or Canvas (11 x 14)
Brushes
Other materials as needed.
I would like for students to look at the videos and then inspired by her images ,
You will create two versions of her art.
Her work is broken down into two simple steps :
1) Background color
2) repeated shape or form.
As you set out to do your version of her work think about the following:
Think about having a background color , entirely of your choosing.
Then come back and finish with a either a complementary or any color of your choosing.
Think as you build up space how will you do that?
Remember you can use shape, line or any other form of your choosing.
Post photos of your work and a reflection post regarding Yayoi’s work.
Then add an artists statement regarding your own work inspired by her.
Why did you use a specific color or shape?
How did it feel to work in her style ?
How happy are you with the outcome of your work?
Please , remember to come up with your own solutions and ideas to creating in her style.
DO NOT COPY her style. Use your own ideas and concepts to create your own version.
Post all artwork by Sunday 5pm.
Below see different examples of Yayoi Kusama’s work below.
