[ID: A digital two panel comic. It shows a cartoon dog with a hat, sitting at a table with a cup of coffee. It is the same dog and layout as the “this is fine” comic, in which the dog sits in a burning kitchen and says “this is fine”. Except in this version, the dog is sitting in a peaceful meadow with fluffy white clouds and a rainbow in the sky. It says “This is unbearable.”. OP’s signature, reading @jennhasadhd is visible in the bottom left. /End ID]

OR you are hyperfixated on aspects of your work so you put in 150% of the effort, carry the entire team and when you are completely burn out and actually giving 10% because you've got nothing left. They still want 150% from you and expect nothing more from anyone else....

[ID: 5 Images interspersed between the text.
Image 1: An anime screenshot of a hand holding a syringe with a needle in the air.
Image 2: A screenshot of an image from @Jennhasadhd that reads "Fixed It: How ADHDers make friends: 10% They don't 90% Other ADHDers found them, liked them and adopted them."
Image 3: A map of squiggly lines like roots. The lines branch off from a single point labeled you are born. Mid way down a line painted green there's an arrow pointing to it and labeling it "your life path" The line continues surrounded by other black lines to a vertical bar mid way through the lines labeled "today" the black lines cut off at this point but the green line continues on the other side branching off into lots of various lines, all green. On the black line half of the image there's a horizontal line labeled "the past" on the other side of the vertical line is a horizontal line labeled "the future" the key denotes the black lines as "life paths closed to you" and the green as "life paths open to you" the map as a whole signifies that even though your life is on a path that path could lead you anywhere.
Image 4: An anime gif of a hand petting a kitten that is drinking milk from a teacup.
Image 5: An anime gif of 2 pieces of strawberry cake, a hand reaches in takes one slice of cake out of frame, another hand comes into frame and removes the strawberry from the other piece of cake. End ID]
Hey y'all if you're self diagnosed ADHD or late in life diagnosed ADHD be careful how you talk about ADHD. I recently heard someone talking about ADHD "manifesting".
To be clear ADHD doesn't "manifest" it isn't something that develops, you don't acquire it. It's not like Depression or PTSD or any other number of mental disorders that one can acquire due to trauma or injury. ADHD is there, it's part of you, it's baked into your brain as far as anyone can tell from the moment you were conceived.
ADHD is heritable, it runs in families, and you've always been ADHD. Sure you might not have noticed your ADHD traits until you were older and life got stressful, or until you go on social media and started going "what that's not normal?" but it was ALWAYS there.
The reason this is important is because for many of us adults who grew up with a diagnosis, the idea that ADHD came outta no where that it "manifested" meant that people thought it could be treated. That it could be gotten rid of or it was something we kids would grow out of.
I have literally had teachers and others tell me I was "too old" to have ADHD or ask me if there was a cure for it, or how I could treat it so I didn't have symptoms.
Being 14 and hearing all this kind of talk led me to believe that I had grown out of my ADHD, that it had gone away because my parents had gotten me treatment, which lead to me ignoring the fact that I do have ADHD for a long, long time.
So, be careful about how you talk about your ADHD, be clear with people (especially adults who work with kids) that ADHD isn't something that can be treated away or that came out of nowhere. Be clear that ADHD doesn't manifest, it's part of someone.
