Jeni Caruana
Jeni Caruana was born in England and studied
at Uxbridge, Hull and Harrow Art Colleges
before settling in Malta in 1977.
She then worked as a graphic designer
and followed a post-Diploma course at
Malta School of Art.
Jeni holds regular solo exhibitions and participates in
joint, group and collective exhibitions in Malta and abroad. She has
represented Malta in UK, USA, Sardinia, Rome, Tunisia, Libya and
Norway. Her paintings now hang in many public and private collections
all over the world.
Works cover a wide variety of subjects and media,
from landscapes to Prehistoric Temples, sand to ceramics,
watercolour, acrylics and mixed media to wooden sculptures. They are
always based on good drawing and keen observation and started on
location or from live models. Intense study of the human figure has resulted
in her ability to capture fleeting glimpses of people in motion. Visually
expressing the emotional effects of music on the senses, her live
paintings of dancers and musicians are a popular and favourite subject.
Jeni has been teaching drawing and watercolour techniques to
adults since 1995. She regularly runs courses and workshops in
drawing and watercolours for adults, specialised courses in life drawing,
watercolour techniques, painting holidays, weekend workshops and painting
outings,
also art for self-expression, meditation and relaxation. (Caruana,2017)
The following is a small sample of Jeni Caruana’s Art
Mu Danzas Boleras Manoel Theatre 2014
These Flamenco paintings were created at a memorial performance for the dancer and choreographer Sharon Sapienza.I used gouache and ink to capture the movement and energy. They are all sold.
Puerto Flamenco Opera House, Valletta June 30th 2013
Renzo Spiteri - Quintessence
For Jeni it was a thrill to paint at Renzo's moving perfomance of Quintessence at St James' Centre for Creativity 29.1.16
My aim was to try and capture the way Renzo merges with the sounds that swirl from, through and around him.
Malta Jazz Festival 2015
Ghanafest, June 2012 - The Malta Folk Singing Festival
The Figure
Jeni has always loved to work directly from the model; that is what informs most of her other work, especially the ability to work very fast on her music and dance paintings.
Malta Jazz Festival 2015

The Wisestones of Malta - contemporary art inspired by ancient mysteries
Artworks by Jeni Caruana
http://thewisestonesofmalta.weebly.com/
One of Jeni’s recurrent and favourite themes has always been the Maltese Prehistoric Temples, which predate the Pyramids of Egypt and are the oldest standing structures in the World. Jeni has often worked on site gathering information and sketches that often end up as wonderful paintings that in the end seem to surprise ever her. She feels that she is being used almost as a channel to communicate these impressions. In this website one can find her work and also buy prints of her paintings of these magnificent temples.

Malta: Apakah 'Blockchain Island' di Eropa Benar-Benar Menyesuaikan Diri dengan Hype?
Malta. Pulau Blockchain.
Menarik Bisnis Crypto Mayor
Critical Analysis Structure:
This will be the overall structure concerning the critical analysis. It is not in entirety definite, however it will serve as an overall guide.
Introduction/ First Paragraph:
Begin to discuss the topic briefly.
Go into the historical lament of the topic at hand. Cite Louis Legana’s various texts (particularly referencing his thesis, Prehistoric Malta and Contemporary Art) as well as the works of others.
Second Paragraph:
Introduce the difference sin practice between the varying waves of feminism, the gradual decline and then contemporary fourth wave feminism. Refer to the changing culture which is allowing for this to occur. Write about the essentialist implications of the woman’s body and the overall divide this caused both historically and contemporarily.
Point out as to why it is the primitive goddesses which they reference most, linking it with Maltese prehistoric goddess figures and reference Bonanno’s Fertility Cult books.
Make sure to note the purpose of utilizing prehistoric imagery of the goddess. Mention bad examples as to how they are used commercially and note the differences in such practice.
It is not for the sake of amusement or romanticism, as had occurred with primitivism within the late 19th Century and early 20th Century, but something far more important.
Moreover note the fact that the feminine goddess moreover represents not only woman’s rights but moreover the environment and its own wellbeing, oftentimes tying the feminist agenda with an environmental one.
Third paragraph:
Moreover note the overall difference between the very practices in and of themselves as they are highly individualistic (leading to personal expression) and is eclectic. Exemplify said practices, name a few. Name contemporary cases within Malta .However also note examples of cases where the artworks of the Goddess movement may be seen as a collective artistic act/action, rather than personal expression. Thus it would allow for cross-comparisons of practice and begin to work on a conclusion.
Mention artists such as Jeni Caruana, Julie Apap and others and exemplify their work, it’s meaning ,etc. Describe the overall reasoning behind it which indicate that it is not collective agenda, but rather more introspective. Make reference and quote Lagana’s interviews.
Conclusion:
State that is for these reasons that The Goddess movement’s art is still relevant, and not because it fits as a collective feminist movement alone, but because it is utilized as a means of personal feminist expression. It is not defined by a group, rather it is a personal experience.

Join us on this spiritual, inner alchemical transformation, from the visible into words, and words into images, exploring the four elements, and their occult esoteric, philosophical manifestation within Nature: • Earth that is fixed, rigid, static and quiet, and symbolizes the world of senses; • Water that is the primordial Chaos, is fluidity and flexibility, and symbolizes the world of emotions; • Air that has no shape and is incapable of any fixed form. It is a symbol of thoughts. • Fire that is boundless and invisible, and is a parching heat that consumes all, or within its highest manifestation, becomes the expression of Divine Love; and • Spirit that stands at the center of the four elements as an Essence, an Observer, Consciousness coming forth to experience the magic of Life.

“Seated on a panel with her fellow writers, Maltese-Serbian novelist Nataša Pantović has been known to use slam poetry to perform her poetic body of work.
Like her prose, the improvised words, tribal music, sounds, lengthy ‘aum’ chanting, are neither too preposterous nor too earnest but endlessly curious.” A Beautiful Mind, Sunday Times Culture Art Section Interview with Natasa Pantovic.
