Box Office: ‘Civil War’ Starts Off With Impressive $2.9M in Thursday Previews
Alex Garland's controversial movie about the political divide in America easily scored the best preview number ever for A24.
BY PAMELA MCCLINTOCK
APRIL 12, 2024 9:18A
Alex Garland‘s dystopian action movie Civil War has started off its North American box office run with an impressive $2.9 million, a record for indie studio and distributor A24.
The $50 million movie about a divided America is a big swing for A24 as it tries to produce bigger movies, and is its most expensive production to date.
Civil War is tracking to open north of $20 million, although one leading tracking service has a slightly lower range of $19 million to $20 million. As with the preview number, that would be record for A24, beating the $13.6 million opening of A24’s horror pic Hereditary in 2018.
A24 and writer-director Garland held the movie’s world premiere last month at the South by Southwest Film and TV Festival, an ideal venue since many of the attendees are younger adults, the film’s target demo.
Set in the near-future, the story follows a wartime photojournalist (Kirsten Dunst) and her colleagues as they make their way across a hostile and divided United States of America that has been torn apart under the authoritarian rule of a three-term president (Nick Offerman). Yet the film shys away from red state/blue state divisions, and the politics behind the conflict are generally left unexplained, other than to say that one of the president’s first first actions was to disband the FBI in an apparent nod to former President Donald Trump, who has called to “defund” the Bureau.
Civil War‘s timing surely isn’t a coincidence as it hits cinemas amid a contentious election year in which President Biden and former President Trump are once again the leading candidates for their respective parties as Trump seeks to return to the White House
At a SXSW panel following the film’s premiere, Garland said it made sense to release Civil War now, although it’s not as if there is anything new about the contentious political discourse gripping the country.
“I think all of the topics in in [Civil War] have been a part of a huge public debate for years and years. These debates have been growing and growing in volume and awareness, but none of that is secret or unknown to almost anybody,” Garland said. “I thought that everybody understands these terms and, at that point, I just felt compelled to write about it.”
Cailee Spaeny, Jesse Plemons and Wagner Moura also star.
2012–2013: Founding and early years
A24 was founded on August 20, 2012, by film veterans Daniel Katz, David Fenkel, and John Hodges. Katz formerly led the film finance group at Guggenheim Partners, Fenkel was the president, co-founder and partner at Oscilloscope, and Hodges served as "Head of Production and Development" at Big Beach. The name "A24" was inspired by the Italian A24 motorway Katz was driving on when he decided to found the company.
Guggenheim Partners provided the seed money for A24. The company was started to share "movies from a distinctive point of view". In October 2012, Nicolette Aizenberg joined as head of publicity from 42West where she was senior publicity executive.
The company began its distribution of films in 2013. The company's first theatrical release was Roman Coppola's A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, which had a limited theatrical release. Other 2013 theatrical releases included Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers, James Ponsoldt's The Spectacular Now, and Sally Potter's Ginger & Rosa.
In September 2013, A24 entered a $40 million deal with DirecTV Cinema, where DirecTV Cinema would offer day-and-date releases 30 days prior to a theatrical release by A24; Enemy was the first film to be distributed under the deal. That same year, A24 entered a deal with Amazon Prime, where A24-distributed films would be available on Amazon Instant Video after becoming available on Blu-ray and DVD.
2014–2017: Television and later productions
In May 2015, A24 announced that it would start a television division and began producing the USA Network series Playing House, as well as working to develop a television series that would later become Comrade Detective, produced by Channing Tatum. The company also announced that they would also finance and develop pilots.
In January 2016, Sasha Lloyd joined the company to handle all film, television distribution and business development in the international marketplace. The company, with cooperation from Bank of America, J.P. Morgan & Co. and SunTrust Banks, also raised its line of credit from $50 million to $125 million a month later to build upon its operations. In April, the company acquired all foreign rights to Swiss Army Man, distributing the film in all territories, and partnering with distributors who previously acquired rights to the film, a first for the company. In June, the company, along with Oscilloscope and distributor Honora, joined BitTorrent Now to distribute the work of their portfolio across the ad-supported service.

Ich habe "Plan der Chamäleonbande" weiter gespielt. HEAVY SPOILERs ahead! Fühlt euch gewarnt, jetzt kommt ein laaanger Ritt.
Das Spiel war bisher: Regenbogenlastig. Sehr.
Kelly rauscht wütend ab- go girl.

ASTROLOGY AND SERIAL KILLERS
Hi Hoeeeeees,👋so today i'm going to take you through the ASTROLOGY of serial killers/Psychopaths.
If you have this placement,it does not necessarily mean that you are psychopathic nor are you a serial killer but there are tendencies to be so. This could also mean psychologically there's a lack of emotions making them not understand social cues. I am an aspiring psychiatrist and i have sat down to assess your favorite serial killers with astrology :), (Jeffrey Dahmer is our favorite and he's soooo cute, followed by Ted Bundy, he has a nice smile btw :),
Soooo without further or do let's gooooo.
So i sat down to statistically calculate of about 60 serial killers and one thing they have in common is, they are all MUTABLE SIGNS.
So i know your question is what are mutable signs? So to those who are new. Mutable signs are any of the four astrological signs; Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces, that are grouped together because of their placement characterized by the attribute of adaptability to ANY circumstances.
Example:Geminis are known to adapt and switch theor personality to any other people they are interacting with, depending on the situation.
JEFFREY DAHMER
Well, our favorite serial killer who was able to take accountability huh🙄😂😂.
Jeffrey Dahmer is a gemini sun, aries moon and Libra rising (which makes him look cute tbh;)
Now that Gemini sun is a mutable sign as i said before lol. Twin twin thoughts. Since gemini is a mental sign and is also a sign which deals with depression a lot because of the two beings running through their minds always thinking in a fast pace, the aries moon makes him acts sooooo aggressive😭 without thinking straight . There's a lack of emotion when it comes to gemini and virgo actually ruled by mercury (which is logic) their head is always walking first.
He has an Aries moon which could denote his BIOLOGICAL mom was someone who was extremely HOT TEMPERED (moon deals with the mother and your subconcsious thoughts and emotions. The treatment and distance from his mom could have brought a lonely side to him since psychologically, men are thee closest to their moms (Carl Jungs, Oedupus complex) and the girls are closest to their fathers(Electra complex).
Note that, if a girl isn't as close to her dad or have a good relationship with her dad , having her dad distanced or maybe not in her life, its placement is denoted in astrology plus they have a whole different mindset together tbh.
Him being a Libra rising shows his disdain of being ALONE and having a partner beside him due to the astrological effects and psychological effects of the treatment of his mother...(Be in the lives of your kids ....Moms🙄)
He is gay ...yes astrology denotes gay relationships sooooo many uncountable times.
Example; Aquarius mars,(lol sooooo unconventional....they can go both ways 😂) Aquarius mercuries, uranus aspects to personal planets, the degree 11° in your natal charts to personal planets, Gemini venuses, gemini mars, Aquarius venuses, 11th house ruling your 7th and so on.)
He being a gemini sun is even enough for that effect.
I could go on and on but let me wrap this up.
He's a Taurus 8th house in conjunction to his venus explaining the urgency to eat HUMANS.
Taurus denotes food, obesity and the 8th house denotes death, rebirth and stranger things lol.
The ruler in his 1st house expecting neptune could denote fantasies too. Hence, the infatuation of cannibalism. Also we can also spot the 8th degree in his mars sign .
the 8th degree is the killer/evil degree ruled by scorpio, and its in a aries mars place, mars already being the planet of action and agression, mixed with aries and the 8th degree.
He has his Venus in the 8th house denoting him associating death with love. 🥰
He could have made the world a better place honestly, with him being a virgo northnode through hardwork but noooo o, his pieces southnode which makes him draw back to his karmic past of obsession and fantasies with what he was experimenting.
Let's go to the second famous cute one.
You guessed right; Ted Bundy
Ted Serial killer Bundy🙄is a Sagittarius Sun, Sagittarius moon(lol double whammy mutable) and a Leo rising.
Apparently, Ted Bundy was in Law school because he wanted to become an affluent politician. Which isn't shocking since Sagittarius is the sign that denotes a HIGHER mind in knowledge, traveling to fulfill educational purposes.
Ted Bundy would kill at least 10 white women (yes, he was known for killing WHITE women, i had to bring the race in there since Sagittarius is the sign of colorism, racism and the attraction or obsession with foreigners lol but that's a different story for a different post;). His fellow mutable serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was busy killing black men who were gays (i wonder what his problem was🙄)
But anyways, after Ted Bundy kills them, he disposes off their bodies after having sex with them torture them and commits acts of necrophilia.
It was quite difficult to believe he did that because he appears to be charming, charismatic and very intelligent actually.
Because of he being a strong mutable sign, he flips from being a heinous person to being so charming as psychopaths are the most charming and witty people in the room.(think gemini and virgo lol, not saying every one of y'all are psychopaths).
This makes mutable signs attracted to that SHADOWY element of nature .
These people in general can go from good to evil just depending on their environments and cannot wait to STRIKE their victims. As opposed to other signs, i really do not think people should be messing wrongly with virgos with scorpio moons honestly ....the attraction of personality disorders plus witchy nature is insane!😭
Especially Ted having his pluto in conjunction to his Leo rising making him a snake undercover , extremely secretive. Mind you, he has a scorpio stellium, scorpios in generals are the students if mind games, power control and secrecy making people not know who tf he really is. This could make him be drawn to darker things especially him being a Sagittarius moon which has a Jupiter effect on his subconcious mind and emotions making the expansion of whatever entity/darkness is going on in his mind if he's pacing on a LOW VIBRATIONAL level.
His Jupiter, venus, mercury are in scorpio in conjunction to his chiron which could denote sexual abuse attributing to the acts of necrophilia. His venus in conjunction to his chiron makes him loove love the darker aspects of life and the concept of pain is pleasure.
His scorpio chiron could mean he was sexually abused but knowing him, he probably would not mention it.
Ted Bundy had scorpio in the fourth and this could denote secrets pertaining to his family.
His saturn forming an aspect to his pluto could make him a control freak , a sense of authority and taking advantage of weaker people. As i said in previous posts of mine, if you haven't plesde go check it out, Saturnian qualities, the number 8 in your natal chart and Grown Capricorns tends to be 100% predatory.( And BITCH i said what i saaaaaaaaaaid 😊) example, Matthew Knowles, the famous R. kelly.
His Mars in Sagittarius in conjunction to his moon could lead to overindulgence in as to whatever he thinks...his emotions is a force to drive him into either drugs or going into a spree of killing or sexual abuse with people.
His Jupiter being in scorpio could lead to him having money in shady, unearned and undisclosed ways .
That's it for him..
Let's go to the third serial killer......
Josef Mengele.
Josef Mengele was a German Nazi Doctor he was around in world war 2 and was notorious for experimenting on twins and even the handicapped, his experimentaions were so grotesque that he was hated amongst the nazi figures, and mind you he was sober and clear in his mind when doing this.
So lets look at his birthchart, Mengele was born on March 16th 1911, making him a pisces sun with the number 16 on his birthday deals with sacrifice as well as with catastrophe, so it intrigues anything in him to adhere to these heinuous acts. I know your question is...why is pisces the most sensitive self serving, self sacrificinh sign but yet amongst the serial killers......
Well ..its a mutable sign remember...just a bunch of hypocrites actually.😂
Pisces deals with chemistry, physics, astronomy and doctors.
Thus making him obsessed with what his doing. He'll lure the kids he wants to experiment with ,with candy 😂 (lol typical pisces) and then let them call him uncle lol. And then proceed to experiment the most disgusting heinous acts on them.
He's a scorpio southnode making him align to his EVIL ways. His southnode is in the 12th degree ,and the number 12 deals with perversion, victimization and coldness!
Him being a scorpio southnode trining his sun, there's a fantasy and obsession (Neptune being in the sun) with death..his sun being his nature....that embodies what he is known for.
I can't make this up, serial killers must have some scorpio or 8th house in them to be fully progressed.
A lot of scorpio southnodes do have a lot of karmic bagagges surrounding very dark and intense experiences in life thus aligning him(Yes i said aligning, because that's his south node, that is what he is doing!)
His Mars is in the first degree of Aquarius, by which the number 1 denotes children squaring his North node making him having these dark thoughts against children since mars deals with either sexual drive or physical aggressive tendencies.
His mars being in the placement of uranus makes him a mad scientist which implies him experimenting with devices or even other technologies.
These experimentation had no purpose but to inflict pain or play out his need for power!
Him having a scorpio Jupiter deals with the obsession with deep investigation.
Scorpio deals with sex, investigations and an obsession with surgery, squaring his NN, thereby him having experimenting on dwarfs and handicaps who have dome absolutely nothing to him!😑😑.
His saturn is in conjunction to his SN, showing problems with money.
Anyways, that is it for me.
So these are the astrology of serial killers. There's more but i think i would end it here. The next post i would talk about the astrology behind psychopathy /Psycopathic tendencies in a natal chart....stay tuned.
Please do not forget to like and reblog, and if you copy, please give me credit!

Hey so I saw your post about Dylan referring to himself as an entity and drawing spirals. Since youre a psycology student, i would love to hear your analysis of this. Also, if possible, could you do the same for Eric's writing? Thanks thats all
I was doing a lot of psychological analyzes of Jeffrey Dahmer and posting them here, but then I started attracting a lot of strange people, so I stopped...
But since a lot of people are asking for this, here we go 🙄
In Carl Jung's psychodynamic theory, spirals or mandalas are expressive artistic forms that can emerge during a psychotic episode when the patient's mind is trying to organize itself.
Here are many examples of art made by psychotic patients in a psychiatric hospital, they are from the book Images of the Unconscious by Nise da Silveira
(it doesn't mean that everybody who does drawings like this are psychotic, obviously it has artistic styles and things like that, but these paintings were made by patients in hospitals. Nise was a brazilian doctor, and Jung was from Switzerland, they notice that without any contact, their patients were drawing the same spirals figures. You can also see that these drawings are somewhat organized because the patients were receiving treatment. You can see from the geometric shapes that there is a meaning, it is the mind trying to organize itself).
Not only did Dylan draw a lot of spirals, but you can also see that his drawings are extremely disorganized and don't make any sense at all.
Furthermore, his writing is extremely confusing, it took me weeks to understand what he was talking about, (while I read Eric's diary in just one day and found it extremely boring)
Here is an example, you can see that love (heart), the road, this fifth dimension, the donward spiral is all mixed up, extremly disorganized.
It's very different from Eric's drawings, which despite the violent themes, you understand what's happening
Dylan's writing often does not follow a chronological order, nor does he talk about real events of his life, he constantly refers to himself as if he were an entity that lives in another dimension (the number 5 in the drawings represents this fifth dimension), in other words, he was unable to establish a connection with reality. Unlike Eric who proclaimed himself a god to irritate people, as a form of rebellion, Dylan really believed in this, in his mind, he literally lived in another dimension. And these spiritual themes regarding the ego itself ("I am an entity") are indicative of psychosis as well.
One interesting thing is that you can see that even the form of Dylan's writing is confusing. I'm not just talking about his bad handwriting, but he always wrote in the corner in a disorganized way, loose words without meaning. When he started his diary you can see that he was fine, but as time passed, his writing became more and more strange, he began to draw more and more these spiritual symbols, and his drawings became a great confusion.
I believe that his diary is a perfect example of a mind that deteriorated over time, but obviously this is just a supposition based on his diary. I also suppose that he wrote in moments of crisis, when he felt bad, sad, and needed to get these things out.
I know that a lot of people must interpret his diary in an artistic way, especially through his poems (and it still is!), but this is also an indication of a mind that was losing touch with reality
When he proclaimed himself the god of sadness, when he said that he had no friends, that he had no love, that no one would ever love him when he did have many friends who liked him, a functioning family that loved and accepted him, and still a promising future, since he was smart and was planning to go to college, all this god of sadness thing could be indicative of delusion too, he couldn't see how loved he actually was.
(there are cases of psychotic depression, it's very rare, but it does exist).
I know he was diagnosed with schizoaffective personality, which I agree with because often people with this diagnosis are also psychotic. But it really depends on how serious the case is, I have a friend who has this diagnosis and is also psychotic, but he has a good connection with reality and will graduate in psychology too.
Therefore, absolutely nothing about Dylan's supposed illness justifies what he did at Columbine. Eric himself was perfectly normal and also decided to do what he did.
#columbine#dylan klebold#eric harris#psychology#also i'm not a columbiner so please stay away#i just did because a lot of people wanted and so i can study too

Hear me out.
Peter verschwindet spurlos.

do you take requests? any quotes about the harshness of being truthful to oneself, about sharp realizations about oneself’s or another’s interiority?
"Nothing is so difficult as not deceiving oneself."
— Ludwig Wittgenstein, Culture and Value, tr. Peter Winch
"The intensity of the inner resistance against full self-knowledge is unfathomable."
— Brian Masters, from ‘The Shrine of Jeffrey Dahmer’
“In self-deception I am maneuvering to escape a truth about myself. I am a self divided against itself. This is the meaning of Kierkegaard's term “double-mindedness”. The opposite of self-deception, of willing obscurity about oneself, is to be transparent to oneself. It is to will one thing. To be transparent to oneself requires insight and courage. Not to will transparency is to be a fool and a coward.”
— John Mullen, from 'Kierkegaard's Philosophy: Self Deception and Cowardice in the Present Age'
"I look down into myself and shudder."
— Nikos Kazantzakis, from ‘Report to Greco’, tr. P. A. Bien
"And though he knows the mirror he so desperately needs to look into exists, the thought of looking into it fills him with mortal dread."
— Hermann Hesse, from ‘Steppenwolf’, tr. David Horrocks
"For it is towards oneself that one has the strongest resistances."
— Carl Gustav Jung, The Collected Works of C. G. Jung Volume 4: Freud & Psychoanalysis; from ‘The Analysis of Dreams’, tr. R. F. C. Hull
"People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls."
— Carl Gustav Jung, The Collected Works of C. G. Jung Volume 12: Psychology & Alchemy; from ‘Individual Dream Symbolism in Relation to Alchemy’, tr. R. F. C. Hull
"—growing in and out of situations, gaining control of inner confusions or losing control, overcoming inner resistances or succumbing to them, exploring more of inner darkness and appropriating it as ‘personality’ or actually losing some personality to encroaching darkness."
— Ted Hughes, from 'Letters of Ted Hughes’ —Anne-Lorraine Bujon, 16th December 1992
"This was the dark cave of what she didn’t know about herself."
— Janet Fitch, from ‘Chimes of a Lost Cathedral’
"…as if the act of self-regarding was not as subtle, fraught and ever-changing as any bond between twin souls."
— Eleanor Catton, from ‘The Luminaries’
"There were days when you peered into yourself, into the secret places of your heart, and what you saw there made you faint with horror."
— Jean-Paul Sartre, from ‘No Exit’, tr. Stuart Gilbert
"No satisfaction based upon self-deception is solid, and, however unpleasant the truth may be, it is better to face it once and for all, to get used to it, and to proceed to build your life in accordance with it."
— Bertrand Russell, from 'The Conquest of Happiness'
"You say you live in pain. Let it be the pain of the death of the old false self, and the life-movement of the new real truthful self. We are all wrapped in silky layers of illusion which we instinctively feel to be necessary to our existence. Often these illusions are harmless, in the sense that we can still go on being reasonably good and reasonably happy. Sometimes, because of a catastrophe, a bereavement or some total loss of self-esteem, our falsehoods become pernicious, and we are forced to choose between some painful recognition of truth and an ever more frenzied and aggressive manufacturing of lies […] If you keep checking any lie and resisting the anger which deforms the world you will gradually realise that the poor old wounded self, with its furious whining and its hatred of itself and everything else, is not you at all. That self is dying, but another self is watching it die.”
— Iris Murdoch, from 'The Good Apprentice'

about
as an fyi, i'm remaining anon on purpose. my alias henceforth is saturn8!
i included modern astrology in the description because that's the easiest way to describe what astrology i study. BUT the names of my branches of choice are humanistic astrology and psychological astrology. humanistic astrology came first. it was created by dane rudhyar, an avid theosophist (*slight, but noticeable cringe*) after he attended a few carl jung lectures. dane rudhyar founded it based on the dharmic principle - that we each have a "job" to do in life; we have a purpose. additionally, that we are each products of our environment and that our purpose is a culmination of the efforts of humanity that lived before us. that we evolve and change overtime. so the rudhyar system of astrology is oriented around helping people understand what they need to know to grow and change within the context of their physical environment and natal chart. he emphasized that fate-ridden astrology is outdated and that a person-centered astrology must emerge to accomodate the more self-aware man. we do have the ability to make choices and choose our futures. this shift from fated astrology to free will astrology is why dane rudhyar is referred to as "the father of modern astrology".
psychological astrology was birthed from humanistic. pioneers include liz greene (a claimed jungian analyst), erin sullivan (she passed in spring 2024; may she rest in peace), and jeffrey wolfe green (most known for his evolutionary astrology tho). it looks at the birth chart as a map of personality, psyche, and unconscious. psychological astrology aims to delineate potential growth opportunities as well - but from within. in the words of carl gustav jung, "until the unconscious becomes conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it fate." it really aims to help the querent understand themselves so that they can develop themselves. psychological is more popular largely due to the early enthusiasts ability to attach it to something tangible; to psychology. pop astrology (you know, sun-sign astrology, co-star, and horoscopes) is a derivative of psychological astrology.
in additon to astrology, i'm deeply interested in holistic healing modalities such as western herbalism, chinese medicine, ayurveda, and jungian/depth psychology. other interests include alchemy, gnosticism, henri bergson's philosophical approach, cycles, understanding the nature of reality, mythology, sociology, climate change... & others.
i have sooo many things that i want to write about! i'm constantly connecting astrological principles to my life and want to express those thoughts somewhere in a casual way.
thanks for your time!

Aldous Huxley, who had read his Myers and positioned him in his own psychological galaxy well above both Freud and Jung, put the same traumatic insight this way:
Nothing in our everyday experience gives us any reason for supposing that water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen; and yet when we subject water to certain rather drastic treatments, the nature of its constituent elements becomes manifest. Similarly, nothing in our everyday experience gives us much reason for supposing that the mind of the average sensual man has, as one of its constituents, something resembling, or identical with, the Reality substantial to the manifold world; and yet, when that mind is subjected to drastic treatments, the divine element, of which it is in part at least composed, becomes manifest.
[...]
We can now make the point even more contemporary. Nothing in our everyday experience, for example, gives us any reason to suppose that matter is not material, that it is made up of bizarre forms of energy that violate, very much like spirit, all of our normal notions of space, time, and causality. Yet when we subject matter to certain drastic treatments, like CERN’s Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland, then we can see quite clearly that matter is not material at all, that there is no such thing as materialism, and that the world is way, way weirder than we thought.
-- Jeffrey J. Kripal, Authors of the Impossible: The Paranormal and the Sacred

Ich muss natürlich sofort nach Justus fragen 😌
omg omg dankeeee <3
1: sexuality headcanon
5: first headcanon that pops into my head
6: favorite line from this character
7: one way in which I relate to this character
8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character
9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave?
