Masterclass in Denial
Part 5 of 5
The 4 times you and Jeff denied your feelings for each other and the 1 time you couldn't.
Y/n was lingering. Her class had let out early and she was supposed to meet the group in the study room in a half hour. It had been a month since they all had the flu, for a month Y/n had been avoiding being alone with Jeff. He had taken care of her for two days, making her meals, keeping her cold medicine on schedule, comforted and held her close both nights. They had put up a wall a long time ago, one that was there so that they wouldn't cross the boundary of friendship, but once Y/n was feeling better, they both felt the cracks start to take hold. When the group resumed their regular meetings a few days later, she thought - hoped everything would go back to normal, but as she walked into the study room, there was a palatable shift in the atmosphere.
Sitting next to Jeff, she felt electricity between them. He was looking at her more often, smiling at her more, he was taking up more and more of her space, his arm draped across the back of her chair, his foot bumping hers every few minutes, when it came time to look over their books, he opted to press himself closer and read from hers, leaving his unopened on the table. Y/n wasn't alone in her observations, Annie and Shirley had been shooting each other questioning looks and Abed had been scrutinizing the pair at every meeting.
If anyone asked, she would tell them they were just friends, they're just comfortable with each other. There's nothing between them. She could lie to anyone, she was having a harder time lying to herself. Jeff wasn't the person she thought he was when they first met. It took awhile, but she learned to see under the mask he always wore. He was insecure, he had to prove himself, he couldn't-wouldn't allow himself to ever be perceived as vulnerable. Secretly, her heart raced every time he was near, she loved when she caught him staring at her, and had found her gaze drifting back to him more and more. It was thrilling, electric, and catastrophic. It couldn't be, it would never work, and when it did eventually end in disaster, their friendship wouldn't be the only casualty. So she made excuses, intentional scheduling conflicts, and never walked into the study room alone.
She was going over homework, huddled on a bench on a far off corner of campus, when a crowd emerged from around a corner, Jeff among them. His eyes met hers instantly, it was like he always knew where she was. No matter the place, or size of the crowd, he was always drawn right to her. He cocked his head, and made a beeline to her bench.
"Are you seriously studying before the study group?" He sat down impossibly close, leaning in to see what she was working on.
"What are you doing all the way over here?" Y/n couldn't hide her disbelief. She knew which classes he had and when, he should be on the other side of campus.
"Field trip, front entrance is closed so we had to come in through the side doors." He shrugged. She pondered the chances before deciding she should suggest that they start making their way to the library. She was hoping maybe Annie or Shirley had shown up early as well. She closed her book, leaning away to put some distance between her and Jeff.Â
The schools PA system crackled to life, "Gooooood afternoon, Greendale!" A foreign voice boomed.
"In a few moments every student will receive a text invitation to join in on today's competition." Oh, for fucks sake! They're really doing this again? The paintball war nearly closed the school last time. An ensemble of ring tones echoed through the school. Â
>Greetings Greendale Student, Please click the following link to be assigned to your partner for the upcoming game.
The phones chimed again with a link. No, no way in hell was she wasting her day on another psychotic game. Y/n scrambled to shove her belongings into her bag, trying to think of the quickest route to the parking lot. Unsurprisingly, Jeff was having the same thought as she.
"If we cut through the cafeteria, I think we can avoid whatever circus this is going to bring." She nodded, allowing him to lead the way.
"All students have five minutes to accept the app invitation. Then you will have thirty minutes to find your partner with the help of the gps function in the app. After which you will be giving the guidelines for the first game. The winner of this competition will receive one free Pass grade to use for any class, past or future." The duo halted their escape. A Pass grade? If she actually won, she wouldn't have to retake that class next semester, she could actually graduate on time, maybe even early! Jeff turned back around, "I don't know about you, but I could really use a free pass."
"Yeah," She answered, "We survived the paintball wars, how much more difficult could this be?" They pulled their phones back out, and accepted their invitations. Y/n watched as the screen buffered, chewing on her lip she prayed she wouldn't get a dud for a partner, gleefully remembering Pierce was out of the country for his company's retreat. Jeff pinged first, a dazzling smile spread across his face as he saw his partner wasn't far away at all. Y/n's phone loaded next, popping up Jeff's school i.d. photo, and two dots right next to each other on a map. Well, at least it wasn't Pierce.
While they waited for the next stage of the game to start, they theorized strategies. Opting to head to the middle of campus, but staying in the hallway nearest the back doors, they discussed escape routes, where to meet up if they are separated, even who goes left and right, who goes high and low.
When the thirty minutes were up, the disembodied voice spoke again. "The first game will be revealed momentarily. Please listen to all the rules and instructions, any play outside of these guidelines will result in disqualification. The game is Hide and Seek." Y/n sighed with relief, things can't get too out of hand in such a simple game. "You will have fifteen minutes to prepare, after which the game will begin. All players may either choose to hide, seek, or a combination. Players may only hide on campus. When a player is found, they are to remove themselves from the game. This round will end when there are 20 players remaining. Detail specifications are available now on the game app. After your prep time, the P.A. system will ring three times to signal game start. Your fifteen minutes begin now."
There was a flurry of movement around them, it appeared most of the campus had chosen to participate in the game, and now they were all racing to find the best hiding spot. Y/n froze, envisioning the school grounds in her mind, she couldn't think of a single hiding spot. Everything was open concept, some of their classrooms didn't even have doors! She was overcome with embarrassment at being Jeff's partner, she felt useless.
"Come on, I know where we can hide." Jeff yelled over the roar of their classmates, grabbing her hand and pulling her to him. They weaved through the crowd, everyone was in a state of panic, shouting over each other, stampeding in all directions. A body slammed into Y/n's knocking her to the floor. Starburns stood above her, looking pleased with himself.
"You should just quit now Y/n, I'm going to win that Pass grade, and I'm going to make it my personal mission to be the one to find you." Jeff hadn't seen Starburns coming, but as soon as Y/n's hand slipped his grasp he turned to see the confrontation. He saw red. Jeff marched back to the scene and shoved Starburns down with all his might.
"Don't you fucking touch her." He was about to climb on top of him and beat him senseless, but Y/n took his hand once more, and pleaded with him to get to the hiding space.
They slipped into the vacant cafeteria, Y/n wondered what Jeff was thinking, there weren't any hiding spaces in here. Everyone knew that. He kept pulling her along back to the kitchen. Then into a pantry. He hurried to the back wall, unloading the bottom shelf of a bakers rack. She watched him curiously. Once the shelf was empty, he laid across it, and removed a hidden hatch. Y/n knelt down to get a better look. Inside the wall, there was a tiny cove, it was maybe four feet tall, five feet long, and just wide enough to sit. Jeff motioned for her to climb in. She crawled into the space gathering her knees to her chest trying to take up as little space as possible. Jeff backed in, replacing the items onto the shelf, and slotting the door in place. She had to admit, it was a good hiding spot. It was unlikely anyone would check the cafeteria to begin with, and if they bothered looking in the kitchen pantry, no one would see the hatch. Jeff shuffled to the other side of the bunker, mimicking Y/n's body position. A bell chimed three times, signaling the start of the game.
"How the hell did you know about this place?" It was pitch black in there, but Y/n knew Jeff well enough to know he was beaming with pride with himself.
"Remember when we all had to do community service to clean up after the food fight incident?"
"This is where you disappeared to?" She waved her hand in his direction, finding his leg and giving him a smack. He chuckled in response.
"Well, it started by just looking for a snack, but I set my phone on the shelf and it fell behind the rack, and the rest is history. Though, I should have hid some booze in here..."
A silence fell between them, Y/n used to find it comfortable, they were close enough that they could sit in the quiet and not feel awkward. But now she needed something, anything to distract her from the fact that they were alone, squashed together, in a tiny dark room. She thought back to middle school when Jenny would force her to join in on 7 minutes in heaven at boy-girl parties. She was awkward then too, she would sit in the closet much like she was now, and talk endlessly about whatever she could think of, the latest book she read, a tv show she liked, rumors about their teachers. Most of the boys were just as uncomfortable as her, and happily went along with the discussion. Her Legs were already feeling sore, how long would they realistically be able to stay in here?
"We should have brought our bags with us, we could have used our phones for light and studied." He snorted at her suggestion.
"We have very different priorities." He responded.
Y/n managed to come up with topics to fill the air, and they chatted for a while. It was almost like how it always had been for them, easy, friendly, platonic. Until Jeff let out a groan and shot his leg out, landing it in Y/n's lap.
"Last time it was just me in here, I was able to stretch my legs," He gritted out, as he massaged his cramped calf. "Come over here, we gotta try a different position."
Her heart raced, this was not supposed to happen. she was supposed to stay on her side, with her knees as an additional barrier from him, he was supposed to mirror the position and they were supposed to stay like that until the end of the game. Like parallel lines.
She half crouched half crawled, turning herself to the side, trying to allot him space to lay his long legs flat. She attempted to maneuver to the wall alongside them, hoping to find a position that allowed them both comfort with little physical contact. Jeff adjusted to move his other leg flat, accidently sweeping Y/n's feet out from under her. She toppled over landing on top of the man she was trying to avoid, his hands found her waist instinctively helping her regain balance. She immediately made to scurry away, when his grip tightened holding her in place against him, and he shushed her. Then she heard it.
Someone was in the cafeteria. They listened intently, a door slammed, a chair scraped against the linoleum floor, voices. There were two of them, a team of seekers. She could feel Jeff's heart pound against her back, who knew a silly kids game could install so much anxiety. The unknown seekers continued to make noise coming closer and closer to their hiding spot. The creak of the pantry door caused Y/n to jump, Jeff wrapped his arms around her tightly, they could hear their hunters now.
"See I told you no one would be stupid enough to hide in here, there's not even a lock on the door." The pantry door slammed shut, followed moments later by the cafeteria door. The hidden pair simultaneously let out sighs of relief. Jeff settled back into the wall, resting his hands in Y/n's lap. Y/n stayed rigid, unsure of herself, she waited for Jeff to notice, to offer a change in position, to make some stupid joke that she was suffocating him. But he surprised her by leaning further back and pulling her with him, similarly to how he held her when she was sick. She forced her muscle to slacken, and masked a gulp, trying in vain to give the appearance of ease.
Once she settled he whispered to her, "You think Starburn's been found yet? Idiot probably tried to hide behind a window."Â
His breath was warm, his lips brushed against her ear as he spoke. Despite the precarious circumstance she was in, he made her laugh, then chided her to be quiet. They stayed nestled against one another for over an hour, murmuring back and forth jokes, then gossip, and finally what they were going to do once they were done with school. Y/n admitted that her only goal had been to get her bachelor's degree, in order to qualify for a promotion at her job. She thought back to her monotonous lifestyle before coming to Greendale. Every day she woke up, went to work, then came home. If it was as if she had been hiding herself away, when did she start doing that? It all changed when she joined the study group. They brought her back to the living world. She confessed her fear as it came to her, that once school was over, what would stop her from locking herself away again?
"There's not a chance in hell I'd let that happen, sunshine." Jeff's arms tighten around her once more, he pressed his forehead to the side of hers. She brought her arms to rest over his, pressing gently, erasing any space there was left between them. She steeled her nerves, and turned her head, the light from her phone they had set up, allowed them to meet each other's eyes. Her brain screamed at her to turn away, say something stupid, say something mean, stop looking at him, do not look at his lips. She failed to listen. Jeff watched her carefully, when he saw her eyes wander down his face, he swallowed the lump in his throat. He looked her in the eye once more, silently asking, pleading, begging for permission.
A bell chimed over the speaker, a second chime, then a third. The game master cleared his throat, "The game of hide and seek is officially over, congratulations to our first round winners! Please make your way to the gymnasium for round two. You have thirty minutes."
Y/n pulled away first, clambering back to her feet. Jeff twisted himself to his knees, and got to work on getting them out. Their walk across campus was silent, bursting with tension.
The gym's doors open thirty minutes later. In-between two lines of red tape that ran the width of the floor there were rope lines, balance beams, nylon preschool tunnels, balls of every size from marbles to beach ball all sporadically placed, it appeared you wouldn't be able to take more than two steps before encountering an obstacle. Beyond the mess and red tape, there was a gigantic stop light hanging above five men masked and clothed in all black.
The twenty winners of round one stood in awe. Y/n and Jeff scrutinized every piece in the floor ahead of them, doing whatever they could to avoid the subject of their now reoccurring lasp in friendship. Y/n recognized some of the other teams joining them in the second round; Magnitude and Leonard - odd pairing, Troy and Abed - ofcourse they would win a round of hide and seek, Garrett and unfortunately Starburns. The latter narrowed his eyes upon seeing Y/n, and stalked towards her. As he neared, Jeff jumped into action placing himself firmly in between the two. Starburns stalled at the sight of her protector.Â
"Better be careful Y/n this game looks treacherous." He sneered over Jeff's shoulder. Before sulking away.
"Big word for such a little brain, " Y/n quipped trying to hide her unease from Jeff.
"If this game is what I think it is, you need to stay away from him." His tone disapproving, but his concern for her evident on his face.
Troy and Abed made their way to them, excitedly telling the duo of the adventure they played out during hide and seek. They were merciless in their seeking, but promised to go easy on you, unless it gets down to your two teams, then 'they weren't taking any prisoners.'
"Please line up against the red starting line." The PA creaked to life once more. "The game is Red Light, Green Light. Players will begin at the starting line, when the traffic light turns green you may move through the obstacle course. When the light changes to red, all players must freeze in whatever position they may be in. Cameras and referee's will monitor for movement. If any movement is detected while the light is red you will be disqualified. The game ends when 6 players cross the finish line. When the light turns green your play begins."
Y/n and Jeff readied themselves, she cast a glance down the line of other players. Troy and Abed were in runners' stance, poor Magnitude was trying to convince Leonard to plot out the least obtrusive route, sweet Garret was stretching, while Starburns was glaring in her direction. She looked back to Jeff, he nodded back at her. They could do this. The light clicked to green.
The group surged forward, some leaping over obstacles and army crawling through tunnels. Jeff stayed close to his partner, he could easily clear the highest of the ropes, but he lagged behind to ensure Y/n made it through. They had only cleared a couple feet when the light changed to red. Jeff had one foot on a beam holding Y/n's hand to help her over. Abed was in a tunnel, just his frozen feet sticking out, Troy was stuck comically on all fours having just emerged from the same tunnel. A handful of players were mid jump and immediately disqualified upon landing, more had lost balance while waiting, also disqualified. Starburns and Garrett were neck in neck with them, both had been lucky to have their feet firmly placed on the floor, they were noticeably closer to Y/n than before. There were two teams ahead of them, but she couldn't tell how many on their heels. She met Jeff's eyes, he offered a warm smile and a wink. She could hear his voice in her head 'we got this sunshine.'Â
The light switched to green. Y/n quicken her pace, opting for a speed shuffle, she could hear Garrett questioning Starburns chosen route behind her, but didn't risk looking back. Jeff shot a glance towards them, missing the tiny hurdle before him. His foot caught it, and he surged forward. Y/n moved quickly grabbing him around the middle to bring him upright.Â
Red
They froze, her arms wrapped around him, clutching him to her. His hands gripping her upper arms, looking down at her shock and awe plastered across his face. In this position the only thing in either of their visions was each other, peripherally aware of the red light. More players were disqualified. She was happy to not hear Troy or Abed's name, shocked Leonard was still in a game, and utterly dismayed Starburns had made it through.
Green
She reluctantly released her partner, continuing their trek. Jeff eased over another low bar, looking ahead to see what direction they would head. Y/n started to step over, when she felt a presence behind her, Starburns shouldered passed, sending her tumbling to the floor. Jeff whipped around at the sound, his face red with rage, fists shaking, knuckles white.
Red
Y/n remained sprawled on the ground, her ankle pulsating in pain. Her mind only on Jeff, her eyes pleading with him to keep his cool. His eyes were burning a hole through Starburns smirking face. Y/n risked a nearly imperceptible grunt. Jeff, ever attuned to her very being, shifted his gaze to her. His face softened at the sight, her hair splayed on the floor, her leg at an awkward angle, her lips pinched together in pain, but her eyes are what held him, calming and enraging him at the same time. He knew she'd kick his ass if he fucked this up by going after Starburns, he blinked in apology to her. Promising himself revenge after they've won.Â
Green
Jeff helped Y/n to her feet. She gingerly took a step, and yelped as pain shot up her leg, pressing herself into his side. He scanned the course around them, they were close to the end, only a couple teams left, Troy and Abed were already past the finish line, if they didn't hurry they'd be out. He sucked in a deep breath.Â
"I'm going to need you to trust me."
"What?! Why?!" Her eyes grew wide as he bent down, scooped up her legs, and cradled her to his chest. She threw her arms around his neck, grasping for leverage. She opened her mouth to demand he put her down, when he began sprinting through the course. She buried her head into his chest, bracing herself for inevitable impact.
Red
She heard the click of the light, Jeff had already stopped his sprint, she eyed their surroundings, keeping her head still against his heaving chest. He was grinning down at her, they were across the finish line. They made it. She and Jeff. Troy and Abed. FUCK. Garrett and Starburns.
"Congratulations on winning the second round of the competition. Please make your way to the auditorium. You have thirty minutes."Â
Starburns clocked Jeff's current predicament and used it to his advantage, running off in the direction of the auditorium. Jeff glared at him as he made his escape, but made no move to pursue. Once he caught his breath, he began to tenderly carry Y/n in the same direction.
"You can put me down now, the walk isn't that far."
He scoffed as if it had been an unreasonable request. "We don't know what the next game is, let's keep you off that ankle until we're sure."Â
They bickered the short journey to the auditorium, Jeff never letting her go, Y/n hardly resisting.Â
When they arrived, the disqualified players were all seated facing the stage. One of the referee's in black directed them to the stage, where six chairs awaited them. Each seat had a table next to it holding some sort of medical device with wires attached. Y/n's stomach dropped, she had no idea what these machines were, but she knew it couldn't be good. The final six sat in their appointed seats, while the men in black attached wired probes to wrists, necks, and heads. She whispered an apology to Jeff, vowing she would quit if they were going to zap her with electricity.Â
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and congratulations to our six finalists! This is the final game of the competition, with ONE of you walking away with a free Passing grade." The crowd gasped. One of us? Y/n brain screamed, she had begun to rely on Jeff more than ever, now he was her competition?! She looked over her friends, she was already struggling to find the willpower to succeed over Troy and Abed, adding Jeff to the mix was pushing her past her breaking point.
" One of us?! " Jeff's furious voice echoed her thoughts. "What the hell was the point of putting us in teams if we can't both win." He shouted into the air.
The voice ignored his questioning, "The third and final game is Truth or Dare. Contestants will be asked the question truth or dare, if they choose truth they will be asked a question, the lie detectors that have been attached to you will monitor your honesty. If a lie is detected, you will be disqualified. If a contestant chooses dare, a dare will be given to you that must be completed on stage within the time allotted. The game ends when all but ONE player is left."
Y/n began to wonder if electrocution would have been preferred.
"The game begins... Now."Â
The audience started clapping, Y/n started sweating, Jeff reached over and squeezed her knee in an act of reassurance. She gave him a weak smile in return.Â
The questions started off easy enough, basic questions to establish their baseline. They all picked truth the first round; what's your name, is that your real hair color, when Garrett was asked if he was a Taylor Swift he proudly exclaimed a resounding yes. The second round Troy chose dare, and had to do 30 push ups in 30 seconds. Abed was asked if he could only pick one movie, what would it be. They set a timer while everyone watched his face contort in existential dread and unknown mathematical calculations, he blurted out his answer with less than a second remaining. Jeff chose truth which resulted in him admitting to having a Knight Rider poster hanging above his bed well past childhood. Y/n was next in line.
"Ms. Y/l/n, truth or dare?" Her ankle was starting to feel better, but she didn't want to press it too far so early in the game.
"Truth."Â
"Is it true you take antidepressants?" What. The. Actual. FUCK. What kind of question is that? Was she supposed to feel ashamed? FUCK that. With more conviction then she thought possible, she straightened her back, and cleared her throat. The crowd was booing, her cheeks warmed with the fear of ridicule. Wait, they were yelling at the questioner, Jeff loudest of all, outraged at the inappropriate question. She regained her courage, and smiled, opting for a simple 'yep.' hoping to knock them down a peg by not offering any further explanation. The crowd lavished her in praise, while Jeff leaned as close as he could, searching her face, quietly asking if she was ok. She squeezed his hand, and assured him she was fine.Â
Garrett was up again, choosing Dare. The announcer dared him to chug a gallon of expired milk. He got down almost half the jug before becoming violently ill. Y/n's heart broke upon seeing the acceptance of defeat on his face, as medics escorted him out of the room. After a brief recess to allow custodians in hazmat suits to clean up the sick, Starburns was asked.
"Truth."
"On both your drivers license and dating profile you claim a height of six foot and two inches. Your question is, what is your actual height?" He froze. The phrase deer in headlights had never been more accurately portrayed. The timer ticked down the seconds, as Starburns searched the faces of the audience, his ego and logic debating internally.
"Five foot, eleven and three quarters of an inch." He muttered a response. There was an uproar of laughter, Jeff's pointed finger and exaggerated jeer egging them on.
Three more rounds passed, each one getting more personal, and outlandish. When Troy's turn came around again, he looked absolutely exhausted having picked dare everytime hoping to avoid embarrassment. He prayed for an easy question.
"Truth."
"Mr. Barnes, there is an ongoing investigation into some personal items that had gone missing from Travis Richey's hotel room last month during the Inspector Spacetime convention. CCTV footage captured the people of interest. Two people who bear a strong resemblance to yourself and Mr. Nadir. My question for you is, did you have anything to do with the theft?"
Troy's stunned eyes shifted across the room, the grip he had of the arm rests left indents in the faux leather. He took a quick breath and nodded once. He gave a pageant smile to the crowd, then swifty unstuck every wire from his person, walked over to Abed and stared intently into his eyes. Abed cocked his head, they finished with what seemed like an extra long hand shake. Troy walked off the stage without a second glance.Â
"Um." The announcer was as surprised as the rest of them, but recovered quickly. "Mr. Nadir, truth or-"
"Dare." He hurriedly interjected. It was the first time Abed had chosen a Dare, Y/n surmised he was trying to circumvent the same question Troy had just walked out on. It appeared the game master was switching strategies, embarrassing the contestants didn't work as well as he had hoped, it was only going to get worse.
A henchman in all black wheeled out a cart with cocktail tongs, and a single plate holding one lone small thin red vegetable.Â
"In front of Mr. Nadir is a Carolina Reaper Pepper, these pepper's vary from 1.5 to 2.5 million SHUs on the Scoville scale. Your dare is to completely consume the pepper. You have thirty seconds" The crowd obediently oohed. The timer began its countdown. Abed picked up the pepper, using the provided mini tongs, his brow furrowed. He tilted his head back, and held the pepper above his open mouth. He released the tongs and allowed gravity to take hold, he swallowed once, and opened his mouth to display no remains of the vegetable.Â
Above the audience, the unmistakable sound of a chair being thrown against a wall erupted from the press box. The entire student body cheered, their disqualifications forgotten, they had heroes on that stage and a villain hidden away, they needed to witness a victory.
"Mr. Winger. Truth. Or. Dare.?" The announcer panted out.
"Truth."
"You pride yourself on your good looks, attuned fashion sense, your toned body, handsome face, and of course your meticulously sculpted hair." Y/n watched Jeff, she had no idea where this was going, but she could see in his body language, Jeff did. The voice continued, "However, looking through photos of you in high school and up until your second year as a fraudulent attorney that was not always the case. Your hair was a lot thinner in those days, possibly receding? It's it true that you went to Mexico and participated in an illegal experimental hair transplant?" Seriously? Where are they digging up this information? There's definitely HIPAA violations going on.
Jeff's skin paled, there were multiple scorned lovers of his in the audience snickering loudly. He could live with that, he cast his gaze to Y/n terrified if this was the final straw for her. She was already studying him, not his hairline, but his face, an amused smile on hers. She shrugged, and mouthed 'who the fuck cares?' Relief washed over him. Only she could silence that cruel voice in his head, constantly beating him down.
"Yes, it is true." More snickering, but all he focused on was the proud smile Y/n threw at him.
"Ms Y/l/n, truth or dare?" There was a new edge to the voice. Whoever was behind all this was getting irritated.
"Truth." She made it this far playing it as safe as she could, it could go all night and she doubted she would ever pick dare.
"There has been some evident animosity between you and your competitor Mr. Osbourne. It even came to a physical altercation in our previous game. If dared to fight one another, who do you believe would win?" Y/n's skin prickled at the possible foreshadowing, she'd taken some self defense classes, but he was a wild card. In this particular situation he would probably happily throw hands, but she knew her heart.Â
"I would win." Pandemonium broke out in the audience, most supportive of Y/n, Starburn's few friends disapproved, and the rest seemingly excited to witness a fight.
"Mr. Osbourne, truth or dare?" Starburns hesitated, despite his desire to defeat his nemesis, he knew he couldn't actually hit a girl. Additionally, and he prayed he wouldn't have to admit this, he agreed with her statement, she held an aura of a blood thirsty woman, she'd tear him apart.
"Truth."
"In the far back corner of the science wing, there is an unused room. The key mysteriously vanished a few months ago. Despite no one having a key to the room, no dust has appeared on the door. Furthermore strange chemical smells, noise, and lights have been reported coming from the room. Many on campus believe it's haunted. However, it is theorized someone has been using that room and its contents for illegal purposes. Mr. Osbourne, if we checked your keys, would we find the missing key for room N-109?"
Beads of sweat materialize on his forehead. He scanned the large room for exit signs, then assessed his opponents. He straightened his back, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath in through his nose, and out through his mouth. Repeating the therapeutic breaths, he watched the clock tick down. When the timer reached three seconds he responded.Â
"No!"
The needles of his polygraph danced furiously, a buzzer screamed over the speakers, and the timer changed from yellow numbers to scarlet letters spelling out L-I-EÂ D-E-T-E-C-T-E-D. Starburns jumped from his seat, wires still attached to him pulling the machine off its table, landing on the floor with a crash. Three men in black descended upon him as he screamed the machine was lying, and that there were already drugs in the room. The men dragged him kicking and screaming off the stage and through the outer doors.
"Mr. Nadir, truth or dare?"Â
"Truth." Abed's answer surprised Y/n she thought he'd be picking dare for the remaining rounds, especially after witnessing Starburns unsanctioned lab coming to light.Â
"Mr. Nadir, there is an ongoing investigation into some personal items that had gone missing from Travis Richey's hotel room last month during the Inspector Spacetime convention. CCTV footage captured two people of interest. Two people who bear a strong resemblance to yourself and Mr. Barnes. My question for you is, did you have anything to do with the theft?"
"Yes." Shocked silence blanketed the room. The speaker continued to buzz with static, the voice speechless. An eternity later, he cleared his throat and asked,
" Mr. Winger, truth or dare."
"Truth."
"Rumors have been circulating for some time about you and Ms. Y/l/n's relationship status, but with your constant badgering of the female students and faculty, it is assumed you two are not together. Do you intend to pursue a romantic relationship with Ms. Y/l/n?"
Jeff audibly sighed, Y/n's pulse raced causing the machine connected to her to sputter. She focused on presenting a neutral facial expression, and turned to him. She gave what she hoped was an encouraging smile, letting him know it was ok. That he was safe to say whatever was needed to win. He stared at her, the girl he had been pining over for the last year, the girl he had been following around like a pathetic puppy, she held his heart in her hands, she held his emotional stability in her smile, she had taken up permanent residence in his mind. He had contemplated that very same question over and over, always coming up with the same answer.
"No."
The world stopped, Y/n's vision went dark. If the audience had had a reaction she was deaf to it. How could she have been so stupid? Yeah, she'd always been attracted to him, but knew she needed to keep a distance. He was still staring at her. She was grateful the shock had frozen her expression in place, she robotically directed her attention to the press box, waiting for her turn.
"Y/n, let me explain-"
"Just a yes or no answer is required, Mr. Winger. Additional commentary will result in disqualification." Jeff glared in the direction of the speaker, contemplating the prize's worth.Â
"Ms. Y/l/n, truth or dare?"
"Truth." She had responded automatically, regretting her choice instantly. Given the recent questions, she knew she should have picked dare. At least if it turned out to be awful she could gracefully bow out, and save face.
"Ms. Y/l/n as previously stated, there is much interest regarding yours and Mr. Winger's relationship status. Mr. Wingers answer would lead us to believe that it is strictly platonic. To prove that that is a mutual account, your question is are you romantically in love with Jeffrey Winger?"
The blunt question shook her out of her stupor. She quickly reviewed her feelings, yes, she could now admit she has a crush on him. Yes, she had almost kissed him hours ago. Yes, she had believed sooner than later they would end up crossing the line of friendship. But love? Romantic love? She loved him as a friend, a classmate, but she had only told one romantic partner in her life that she loved them, and still questioned if it was love or just the pressure of reciprocating the words after they had said them. No, she was certainly not in love with Jeff. She swallowed down her doubts, and mimicked Jeff's previous deadpanned answer.
"No."
She heard the needles scratching frantically next to her, the buzzer blared over the speakers a second time, and bright red letters advertised L-I-E D-E-T-E-C-T-E-D for all to see. Her cheeks fell aflame, her eyes stung, she bit her tongue and screamed at herself to hold composer just until she made it outside. Her shaking sweat covered hands blindly roamed her body for the sticky probes, gently tugging them off one at a time. She set them down on the table and to her mortification, gave an awkward wave goodbye before hurrying out the exit.
She broke into a stumbling run across the campus, with no destination in mind, driven by sheer need to escape and be alone. Her ankle was throbbing when she came up on a bench. She collapsed onto it, and finally succumbed to her heartbreak.
Once she was able to catch her breath, and her tears had slowed, she gingerly made her way back to her car. She had a plan, the long weekend ahead of her gave her the perfect amount of time to recover. She would go home and straight to bed, she would sleep past noon tomorrow, then give herself the day to wallow, order some pizza and a pint of ice cream, maybe cry some more. The day after she would send out the batsignal to her friends, have a girl's night and trash talk Jeff, while they built her self esteem back up. The following day she would focus on resuming her normal routine. By the time the study group meets next, she will have a well rehearsed script at the ready, shutting down any sympathetic attempts to console her. Maybe she'll take a page out of Starburns book, and claim the device was defective, that the game was rigged for dramatic effect. She'd polish that out with her friends, editing it down to a simple yet plausible explanation. But for now she just had to get to her car and drive home, one step at a time. The time she spent on the bench and her limping gate reassured her that the game was probably over, and most everyone had cleared the campus. Sure enough when she entered the parking lot, her car sat alone, the sight should have been a relief, but she felt loneliness sink deep into her bones. She fished her key out of a pocket and walked around to her driver's door.
"Y/N WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" She nearly jumped out of her skin. Sitting on the ground, with his back leaning against her car was Jeff. Yelling at her. "I ran around the campus twice looking for you!"
Fuck. She physically ached seeing him, being near him. He got to his feet and rushed toward her, his arms reaching out, while scanning her up and down. He was first unsettled by her limp, her ankle looked swollen, but was rapidly distracted by residual wetness under her eyes. His arms fell back to his sides when she tensed and stepped back from him. She forced a polite smile.
"I'm fine, I just took a walk, it's been a very long day, I'm going to head home now and get some sleep."
"Y/n are you serious? We need to talk."
"No, we really don't. I'm fine. You're fine. But I should really go rest my ankle. I'll see you at study group, maybe we can plot how to get back at Starburns?" She was impressed by her tone. It had been a while since she'd worked retail, but she easily slipped back into her customer service voice. She shimmied past Jeff, and made her way to the door. He reached out and placed his hand on her wrist.
"Five minutes, please just give me five minutes."Â
She wanted to say no. After all, she didn't owe him anything. Just summon up some bad bitch energy, tell him to fuck off, and go home. But she made a crucial error and looked into his eyes. Fuck. FUCK.
"Five minutes." She acquiesced.Â
He led her back into the auditorium, refusing to just say what he needed to. She couldn't bear the silence between them, and asked if he had won. Apparently, Jeff had attempted to follow her out, ripping the cords of himself and most likely breaking the machine. The men in black tried to stop him, even the announcer yelled at him to finish the game. He yelled back that he quit, and punched one of the refs. The rest backed down after that, but by the time he got outside Y/n was out of sight.
He brought her back onto the stage, and sat down in her previously occupied seat. His was upturned, with the polygraph in pieces next to it. He stuck the wires back where they had originally been placed, then handed her a stack of folded sheets of paper, each numbered one through four. He flipped the machine on.
"The first two are control questions. Ask me them out loud."
"Jeff, come on. We don't have to do this."
"Please Y/n, I'll never ask anything from you again, just do this for me."
She closed her eyes for a moment. This was still in the realm of her recovery plan. Maybe it'll help get them back to the friend zone. And at least they don't have sixty plus people watching them.
She silently read the hand written note. âJeff, seriously?â
âJust asked the questions.â He hurried her with a wave.
Question 1 truth
âIs it true that you failed your first driving test, after running a stop sign because you were distracted by looking at yourself in the rear view mirror?â
âYes.â The needles remained in place. Y/n sighed again, she was so tired, she considered arguing with him again to just let her go home, when he aggressively motioned for her to continue.
Question two lie
âIs it true you have the complete box set of Golden Girls hidden in your closet, that you watch regularly when you're alone.â
Jeff exaggerated a face and scoffed out, âNo.â
The machine came alive scratching back and forth, Jeff's heart warmed when her mouth cracked a smile. But tapped his foot anxiously, having written the next two questions, knowing they would change everything.
Question three
She read the unfolded paper, once, twice, a third time before her tear filled eyes met his.
âWhen you were asked if you intended to pursue a romantic relationship with Y/n, you said no because you know she deserves a much better man than you could ever be?â
âYes.â The room remained silent, her gaze never wavering from his.
âJeff-â
âJust one more.â He demanded.
Question four
âJeff Winger, are you in love with Y/n Y/l/n?
âYes.â She couldnât help but stare at the machine, waiting for its movements to break her heart all over again, but it remained still. âHonestly, obsessively, head over heels, in love with you.â
His voice cracked at his confession. Tears ran down her cheeks, the slips of paper fell from her hands as she hurried to him. He was trying to pull the wires off, when she pushed his hands aside, and crashed their lips together in a bruising kiss. Almost fully distracted by her taste he bundled the wires in one hand and ripped them from his body in one quick tug. Now free from his confines he cradled the back of her head with one hand, using his other to guide her waist to his lap, securing her tightly to himself. She felt every emotion they had bottled up flowing between them, she was drowning in his adoration for her, she pulled away to gulp down a breath, before he dragged her lips back to his.
Annie listened intently to Abed regaling the story of how he and Troy had bested everyone during Hide and Seek, complete with shuffling through air ducts, impromptu disguises using trash cans and a mop, and turning the CPR dummy into a decoy with stolen items from Dean Peltonâs office closet.
-
Troy and Britta were having an identical conversation on the opposite end of the hall, both groups making their way to the library.
-
âSo, I get why Troy quit to avoid confessing to stealing that guy's stuff, and why you ate that pepper, but what I donât understand is why you chose truth after all that. Did you really think you wouldnât be asked about it?â Annie questioned Abed.
âOh, no, I knew they were going to ask that. I just had to buy some time for Troy to go home and get rid of it.â He replied.
-
âYou guys didnât say anything to each other, how did he know you were going to take care of it?â Britta asked.
-
âOur handshake. I just tapped out morse code to him.â Abed proceeded to clap out a code.
-
âI told him with my eyes.â Troy answered, bringing his face closer to Brittaâs, and bugging his eyes out.
The girls looked equally impressed as the four of them converged in front of their study room. Opening the doors, they all groaned in unison at the sight in front of them. Y/n was nestled in Jeffâs lap, their arms encircling each other, locked in a passionate kiss. She pulled away when she heard them, offering a sincere apology.
âTheyâre early.â Jeff quipped, placing the blame on their friends, moving down to nip at his lover's neck. She playfully swatted his arm, and moved to her usual seat next to him. Shirley and Pierce joined them shortly after. Once everyone had settled, and begun pulling out their books and folders, Jeff grabbed the arms of Y/nâs chair and dragged it up against his, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. Shirely and Annie awed, even Britta had to admit they made a cute couple. Pierce questioned when they had gotten together, accusing the group of discluding him again. They all agreed to not tell him about the games.
âAlright, since this week's topic is all about perspectives, I was thinking it would be fun if we all took turns reading our notes aloud. Getting each other perspective!â Annie looked around the table excitedly. The majority of the group returned with blank expressions.
âSeriously?! None of you took notes again?!â She screeched. Y/n held up her sheets of notes in protest.
âNo, thatâs it! Iâm not sharing my notes with you guys anymore!â
âAnnie, calm down, I'll read it out loud.â Pierce offered, in an attempt to diffuse her tantrum. He held out his hand expectantly.
âPierce, Iâm not giving you my notes to read out loud. I want you guys to take your own notes and read them!â
âHey! Thatâs not how this works, you take the notes and we use them!â He hollered. âWhat the hell else am I paying you for?!â
âYouâve never paid me for notes!â Annie was close to reaching a pitch only dogs could hear.
âAnd Iâm not going to now!â Pierce crossed his arms, he really believed he had made a valid point.
âThis is textbook negative reinforcement.â
âThatâs not even slightly correct.â
âIâll take your money.â
âItâs closer to conditioning, Annie has conditioned us to expect her to take notes. Despite claiming she won't for us, every week she does.â
Britta offered her usual incorrect psych advice, of which Y/n couldn't stop herself from discrediting, Pierce handed Troy fifty dollars much to Annie's dismay. While Abed in a rare move, agreed and expanded Pierce's point, setting off today's first round of bickering.
They had to stop, at least for today they actually needed to study. The games disrupted last week's study session and Y/n had missed her usual solo studying over the weekend, Jeff keeping her fully distracted. She pulled away from his embrace, with a pout etched in her face.Â
"Jeff, do something, please?"
He brought his hand to her chin, bringing her closer, placing a chaste kiss on her lips.Â
"Anything for you, sunshine."

It was early morning, just before first period Spanish, when you finally decided to say something.
âOkay, so I canât be the only one creeped out by that thing, right?âÂ
You looked around with a sense of judgement as six pairs of eyes immediately whipped around to meet your own. Taking a moment to observe the flower in Annie's hand, and the box of chocolates in Shirley's, you stopped biting at the end of your pen momentarily to gesture at said thing; which just so happened to be your school's mascot.
It was Valentine's day at Greendale community college. Something that, in between your day to day classes and usual group shenanigans, you had forgotten about. If the seven couples french kissing hadnât reminded you of that enough on your way to the library, the pair of heart shaped boxers draped over the statue outside did.Â
You had sat down at the study group as usual, expecting Brittaâs rant about the patriarchal undertones of the holiday and a well timed meta quip from Abed, but instead all you got was a pair of artificially painted eyes staring at you.
The mascot in question turned to you and made what sounded like an offended gasp as it stopped wheeling its little cart full of gifts. Cards covered in pink hearts and lacey trim overflowed from it, all attached with tacky glue, and you got a good look at one of them as it was sent flying near your forehead.
âJeez! Sorry, man! I didnât know this job meant that much to you!â You swiftly ducked under the table to avoid the line of fire. Coming up once the sound of squeaky wheels on carpet faded away, you ended up glowering as Troy laughed at you.
âShut up, Barnes. Abed got more muffins than you.â You glared, referencing the lack of valentines gifts he'd been given. Troy was quick to choke on his laughter after that. He straightened his posture consciously, only stealing a look or two at the goodie basket placed neatly in front of Abed.
âGreat dodge.â The amateur filmmaker praised you in his usual quick pace as you picked up the card from the floor. âIf you had been in the Matrix, and that card was a bullet, that would have been the second coolest scene in the movie. Next to the other part where Neo also evades bullets.â
âNeoâs? I have a few friends that are those.â
âIgnoring Pierce's questionable life choices and their daily allotted hazingâ â Jeff sighed from his usual spot next to you, ââ I have more important things to discuss. And speaking of which!â
Jeff slouched further into his chair as the door to the study room opened once more. You all watched as an extremely hungover Britta stumbled in, a pair of reflective aviators resting on the brim of her nose.
âSorry Iâm late.â She grumbled. Going to sit down she nearly fell out of the chair, and all of you exchanged various looks. If the way Jeff was smirking at Britta said anything, there was some new weird sexually charged adventure to be had between the two, and you were not ready to be in another one of those. You had done your time last week, and you weren't eager to repeat it.
"Actually, you're very late, Britta. See you later!" You slammed your Spanish textbook down on the table with an overly cheesy smile to punctuate the end of your sentence. Britta jumped at the loud noise, hissing at you to shut up, but you were already walking out of the room by then. If the shuffling behind you told you anything, it was that the rest of the group had done the same. Sans Britta and Jeff, per usual.
You tilted your body sideways as you navigated through the busy hall full of various highschool dropouts and divorced parents, letting the sound of tennis shoes squeaking against the floors bounce around in your head. It was more annoying than usual today, and it took you a second to realize that it wasn't the shoes making the noise, but rather Troy as he called after you.
âHey! Hey! Wait up!" He wheezed. "You are very fast when you want to be!â The athlete gasped for breath when you finally slowed down. Coming to a stop as you turned around to face him, you saw another pair of legs enter your line of sight. This time much thinner, and accompanied with a wicker basket full of various baked goodies.
âTroy, I know you like to have someone hold your hand as you walk to class, but normally that's Abedâs job. Please don't allow me to take that pleasure from him.â You said, face completely blank. If you looked hard enough, you thought Abedâs nose flared a bit to insinuate a laugh.
âNo, thatâs not what I'm here toâ hey how did you know that?â Troy took another gulp of air as his brows furrowed.
âI took a guess based on the way both your bodies and hands are angled apart each morning as you walk into Senior Changâs class. Also, when you eat Cheetos, it rubs off onto the back of Abed's palm.â
âI don't eat Cheetos that much.â Troy frowned. âDo I? For the record I am not gay." Troy made sure to ennunciate that last part as he stared you down. His facial expression reminded you of a nervous first grader doing a bad job in their school play.
âYou do, and that's not important right now.â Abed answered back. His head snapped to you with the same amount of intensity that he always got when thinking of a movie reference, and you got the sense he was holding back for the sake of the conversation.Â
Raising both eyebrows, you motioned for them to go on. The hallway was clearing out a bit more, and you didn't want to be caught late for Changs class a third time in a row. Last time he threatened to beat you with maracas, and you wouldn't put it past him to actually carry through with it this time.
âListen, we have something important to say.â Troy began. Abed backed him up with a furious nod, or his equivalent of it. Which really just boiled down to a regular paced nod.
"Is this about Valentine's day? You should ask Shirley about that."
"Come on man!" Troy threw his hands in the air, turning away from the both of you and crossing his arms. "How did you possibly come to that conclusion so fast?!"
"We were just talking about us holding hands."
"Thank you Abed." The both of you said at the same time. Albeit Troy with a little more teeth grinding then nessicary.
"Did you become a ninja overnight? Did you take a ninja class?" Troy took a step forward as he pointed his forefinger in your face. You stared at it as it approached, going cross-eyed momentarily.
"Yes. And if you did, I would like the name to that class." Abed pipped up.
"No, I didn't go to a ninja class." You said while pushing Troy's arm down. "Does this mean I'm right?"
The lack of response from Troy and Abed's unbothered expression provided you with your answer.
"Are you two trying to ask for dating advice or something?" You frowned as you started to walk in the direction of Spanish. Both of them followed as you fixed your backpack strap. "Because if so, Troy you could learn a lot from Abed. And Abed, if you're having a problem, I don't know how to make you anymore appealing to the ladies than you already are."
"It's true." He responded, looking off into what he probably thought was the fourth wall. "I am devilishly irresistible."
"Stop that!" Troy waved his hand in front of his friends face, bringing both their attentions back to you. "Listen. We were wondering how to go about asking the same person to the dance tonight."
"Oh. So like a love triangle thing? I never liked that troupe."
"No no." Troy shut his eyes as he shook his head. "More of like, uhâ"
"Neither of us exactly know." Abed cut Troy off in a matter of fact manor. "We both see ourselves hanging out with them at the dance, but aren't exactly jealous of the other being there too."
"If you wanted me to I could crack open Websters dictionary to find a word for that."
"No thank you." Abed echoed. You simply shrugged.
"Okay. So what do you want me to do about it?" You questioned while turning a corner to another hallway. The three of you were nearly at Spanish now, but this conversation had pulled you in more than conjugating verbs ever could.
"We don't. Exactly know how to ask this person to go to the dance." Troy sucked in a breath.
"You guys have seen plenty of movies. Do the typical thing. Flowers, chocolate, and not what they do in your sci-fi movies Abed." You grinned at him knowingly as you passed through the doorway to class. "Personally I'd take kickpunching robots over literally anything ever, but I tend to be the exception for most things."
"It's not a date though. It's, like, three really close people hanging out. Not in a gay way though! I like girls! With boobs. Yes." Troy stammered as you all plopped into your rickety seats.
"Nice save Troy." Senior Chang called from the front of class with a snicker. He brought his feet down off his teachers desk to lean forward and cup his hands around his mouth. "Or should I call you gay-lord!"
"I really hate this language requirement." Troy grumbled, sinking into his chair. You snorted as Abed stiffly reached his hand out to pat his shoulder, making robot sounds as he did so.
"Cheer up." You allowed yourself a shit eating grin. "It is Valentine's day after all."
âWell that was a disaster.â You said over the sound of a ringing bell. Students and teachers alike passed you and Annie by as the two of you made your way through the hall, neither of them seeming to care very much if they bumped into you or not. To say thatâd youâd almost gotten into a fight or two due to traffic here would be an understatement.
âI donât know.â Annie frowned. She brushed her hair out of her face and clutched her books to the front of her chest. You made a face subconsciously, the sight reminding you all too much of the stereotypical school girl. âI thought it was very mean of Senior Chang to do that to Troy! And Pierce, I guess.â
âAnnie. He called a balding senior citizen and a lonely freshman out on their sad Valentineâs Day gifts to themselves. Itâs Chang. Of course itâs mean. But mean things can also be also be disasters.â
The girl next to you seemed to think about your words for a second. Furrowing her brows once or twice, she eventually let out what you could only describe as a harumph.
âWell I think we should do something about it!â
âPass.â You said without a seconds hesitation. Annie deflated a bit at that and eyed the tips of her shoes. You stole a look down at her, and let out a sigh.
âYou know me. Iâm such a big fan of sticking my nose in other peoples business when it doesnât belongâ â Sarcasm. ââ but I think you and Shirley would be a better duo for this. Sheâs ruthless when she sets her mind to it, and youâre crafty in the way that you could have written the script for the movie Seven if you wanted to. Probably.â
âAww thanks! I think.â Annie beamed. She regained some pep in her step as she skipped ahead of you, only turning back to say one more thing to you. âNo wonder Troy and Abed like to talk about you so much. So many obscure movie references between you guys. Cute!â
âSeven was a box office hit, Annieâ â You began with the hint of a frown tugging at your lips, but she was already off. No doubt to find Shirley before lunch so they could cook up their plan in a flurry of giggles. That only left you with one more question.
âThey talk about me?â
Jeff huffed as he walked into the near empty classroom. His hands, which he had spent the last three minutes nervously slathering in expensive lotion as a part of his mid-day exfoliation routine, were stuffed deep into his jacket pockets. He wasnât exactly looking forward to this interaction, but sometimes heâd throw his better judgment out the window. Sometimes.
Raising a single eyebrow, he glanced around at the spare video equipment set up; the bulk of which was sat right in front of his target. The former lawyer ignored as a kid in a yellow button up kicked a trash can across the room, instead making a beeline for Abed. Who was giving directions rather loudly to the angry kid.
âWow. Do you normally deal with divas like this?â Jeff flashed his signature charming smile while commenting on the temper tantrum. Better to be friendly and break the ice rather than dive right in. Otherwise youâd scare people off. He learned that while working at the firm.
âOne Papa Johns commercial, and he thinks heâs Christian Bale.â Abed pursed his lips comically.
âLook, uhâ â Jeff began to steer away from the topic of the questionable kid as he pulls Abedâs attention in. âYou were right earlier. During Spanish. Britta is being weird around me, and I donât know what to do about it.â
âBy being right, do you mean my prediction that the accidental booty call she sent you while drunk is going to cause the imminent breakup of our fragile group?â
Jeff blinked.
âYeah. That.â He spat out.
âNice. So what can I do for you?â Abed leaned back into his makeshift directors chair while crossing his legs. âDo you need a drunk voicemail of your own to send to her so the score will be evened? Because I have nowhere to be for the next twenty four hours and personal dilema to avoid.â
Jeff inhaled with the intent to bulldoze over the younger mans statement, but ended up falling flat.
âIgnoring that last part, yeah I do, actually. How did you know that?â He squinted. Jeff would never admit it, but sometimes it creeped him out how easily Abed could predict what people would say next.
âClassic sitcom staple.â Abed shrugged without changing his expression one bit. âGoes hand in hand with the booty call. Nowâ â He leaned forward with a glint in his eye. One that Jeff didnât quite like.
âHow well can you act?â
You donât know how you ended up here, and you had been ready to leave the moment you arrived.
A faint punch stain from years ago sat at the hem off of your slacks, reminiscent of a house party from a year ago that had ended in disarray. They were the good slacks too. Paired with what was thankfully an unstained button up polo shirt. This was the closest anyone was going get to fancy from you tonight.
Various pink and red hues cascaded across the dance floor, playing into the Valentineâs Day theme as the schools mascot continued to prowl around on the dance floor. You were sure that the dean would be happy with himself over that if it wasnât for the fact that couples were making out everywhere. It was pretty fun watching him try to break them all up, actually. Youâd made a little game out of it with how long youâd been standing at the punch table.
The toe of your shoe came in contact with a stray balloon from one of the tables centerpieces. With a downward twitch of your lips, you picked the rubbery material up into your hands and started messing with it. Sounds of latex on skin distracted you from all of the screeching and poor singing.
âNot having a lot of fun, huh?â A voice from your left asked.
Glancing near the onion rings that had been laid out as finger food, you saw the familiar form Britta peering at you from under some fake eyelashes. That would have been more of a shock to you if the skimpy red dress she was wearing didnât overshadow it.
âHey there.â You avoided her question as you threw the balloon back into the crowd it had come from. âGreat disco ball costume. Very sparkly.â
âHa ha.â She mocked you before crossing your arms. âFor the record, I still think Valentineâs Day is a sham. Iâm just doing this to see Jeff squirm.â
âAh. Well then, Iâm sure all of the women out there will forgive you for your transgressions.â You teased her with an empty smile.
Britta let out a cross between a laugh and a huff, gaze straying from you to look out at the mass you launched your balloon into. Occasionally someone in unusually high heels would fall, only to be swept back up into the bobbing heads.
âHave you talked to Troy lately?â Britta cut in suddenly. The tone of her voice made you narrow your eyes, and you hummed out a suspicious no.
âThat question is both too casual and well delivered on a night like this to have come from you. Whatâs going on.â You had fully abandoned kicking around stray balloons for talking with her. Or at least, staring at her forehead while she talked. You didnât know if you could manage eye contact right now.
âHe was looking for you earlier at lunch. While sweating. A lot.â Britta scrunched her nose up as if she could still smell the body odor. âSounded like he wanted to ask you something.â
You looked away from her for a moment, temporarily overcome with a feeling of nausea.
âOh, yeah. My bad. I was in the study room.â A pause. âStudying.â
âTroy said that he checked there beforehand.â It was Brittaâs turn to squint at you. âWhy are you the one acting weird now?â
Rubbing at the back of your neck proved as a temporary relief to her question. Inhaling through your mouth, you pulled out your phone and messed with it for a second.
âI got a weird voicemail from Abed today. The main part is him talking to me about the dance scene from Breakfast Club, I think, and some weird phone thing with Jeff and youâ " Britta coughed into her hand at that ââ but the last few seconds really threw me.â
You opened your mouth to continue the story, but quickly shut it once you saw that Britta wasnât paying attention anymore. You didnât even have to follow her line of sight to know she was staring at a dejected looking Jeffâ who had been standing by the cusp of the exit for six minutes now. You didnât even have to nod at her to go before she took off, awkwardly waddling in her stilletos in an attempt to not trip.
It only took a few more minutes of watching the two of them go back and forth for you to give up on anything exciting happening to you. With a halfhearted grumble, you took one last grab at the punch bowl before starting towards the double doors. You hoped the juice had been spiked. If you made all this effort to show up to some lame school thing, might as well get a little tipsy.
âWell this is awkward.â
A harsh cough came from your throat as you choked on your own spit.  In an attempt to make yourself feel better, you turned around to glare at whoever had scared you, only to start coughing more.
âAbed?â You wheezed. Letting out another round of coughs, you caught a glimpse of yourself in the reflection of the sunglasses on his face.
âI came as fast as I could when I realized Troy was stuck as Senior Changs whore for the night.â He looked at you calmly as you continued to die a little right in front of him.
Finally taking one more gulp of punch from the table, you calmed down enough to string together a sentence.
âWhat the hell are you talking about?â
âLet me explain for any in the audience that might have missed it while in the bathroom.â Abed held up a finger. All you could do was deadpan weakly at him.
âBoth Troy and I approached you a little bit ago saying that we had something important to say to you. He worded it wrong. We were supposed to ask you something, not tell you. Instead, Troy allowed Senior Changâs torture to ruin that question, and later I with Jeff and Brittaâs voicemail problemsâ
âTheir whatâs? What is going on with voicemails today.â
âNot important.â Abed carried on. âWhatâs important is that while I was fulfilling the spot of Jeffâs drinking buddy, I realized something.â
âThat you shouldnât be drinking??â You questioned wildly. It was beginning to feel like this night was a special episode in a really bad main cable show. Either that or this place was finally getting to you.
âNo. I realized that while Troy was fitting himself and Pierce into extra tight womenâs suits, that we would miss the opportunity to ask you what we wanted to. I called Troy to tell him to go look for you, but only after sending a call to you that I do not remember the contents of. I assume you have it?â He blinked owlishly.
With a pair of very wide and very confused eyes, you grabbed your phone for the second time that night and shook it with a loose wrist. The audio from a few hours ago began to play faintly. Itâs sound was swallowed by the bass of the dances music, but the both of you could still make the words out. Abedâs voice tumbled out at twice the speed it normally does, his energy no doubt heightened by alcohol.
ââ eâre sort of like Marty McFly and Jennifer Parker, but thereâs three of us. Have you seen the second movie? I need to show you the second movie. Thereâs more of Jennifer in that than the first. And Martys mom isnât trying to get with him. Oh, and you donât have to have a time traveling car for us to want to go to the dance with you. Although that would be nice. Jeff stop drooling on tha â"
Abed looked at it silently as the message continued to run. It was as if he expected nothing more from its contents. For a second you wondered how heâd react to the twenty minutes before that where all he talks about is Breakfast Club, but you figured it would be the same.
The feeling of nausea from earlier was back, and this time was trying to crawl out of your throat with a ferocity. Swallowing both your nerves and that not so metaphorical metaphor, you inhaled.
âSo. Troyâs okay with this?â You asked cautiously, as if this was a dubious prank. Abed nodded almost immediately after you asked. The nausea subsided.
âAnd youâre okay with this?â
Another nod.
âAlright.â You shuffled. It felt like ten pounds had been lifted off your chest, and you didn't know how to express that. âIâll go to the dance. With the both of you.â
A brief period of silence stretched between the two of you. The lights continued to flair, and the music continued to shake the floorboards, but none of you moved.
âAbed?â
âSorry. You made me so happy I peed a little, and didnât want to say anything.â
The corner of your mouth lifted up once. Twice. It only took one more time for a tirade of laughter to escape you all in one go. Abedâs unmoving expression just watched as you laughed to yourself, waiting patiently until you had stopped. When you paused to catch your breath, Abed placed a hand on your shoulder and looked up at the ceiling thoughtfully.
âNormally this doesnât happen in shows.â He hummed. âDo you think that this is a way of adding some diversity in the form of a polyamorous couple at a community college?â
âHow about no lables?â You suggested. âIt feels weird. What if it was just me, you, and Troy for now.â
Abed repeated your words under his breath, mumbling a little. He lifted his head back up to you with his thought on the proposition, which arrived in the form of a steady thumbs up.
âCool. Cool cool cool.â You grinned at him. Abedâs nose flared at your use of his unspoken catchphrase, and he turned away from you to cup his hands around his mouth.
"They said yes!" He told the figure dancing on the floor; the likes of which responded with a yell of victory before getting back to it. It took you a minute to get past the skintight blue suit and floral scarf to realize who it was.
"Troy?!" You sputtered with an open mouth. He looked at you at the mention of his name with a painful smile before turning back to his dance partner with a dramatic sob.
"What is he wearing? And why is Senior Changâ oh god." Your eyes widened, unable to look away. "I think I'm going to puke."
"It's better if you don't question it." Abed told you, his hand just a few inches shy of touching his eyes as he hid behind it.
"Give me your hand Abed." You said blankly. Without questioning you, he held it out. You were quick to sheild your own eyes from the dancing.
"So." You turned your head to look at him after a moment of gross silence, both of his hands still in the air. "Movie date tonight when Troy is released from captivity?"
"I've been waiting forever for you to ask that."

heart to heart
pairing: jeff winger x masc!reader
readerâs pronouns: he/him
word count: 2.8k
[ao3 version here]
I write content for trans-masculine, nonbinary, gender fluid, and other similar identities that are underrepresented in fiction.
Jeff is a pretty easy going guy. Sure, he has his flaws- few and far between as they are. He doesnât try in classes, gets needlessly frustrated when someone does something better than him⌠The list goes on. Truthfully speaking, Jeff Winger does have flaws. He just never expected to add homophobic to the list.
Itâs time for the school dance or, as Dean dubbed it, the Transfer Dance. Itâs one of five dances at Greendale Community College, and arguably the only one that happens routinely. The school is already decorated for the big night, even though it wonât occur for a few days. Itâs mildly irritating to see the cheap paper and plastic decorations strewn across the cafeteria. Jeff lets out an irritated sigh as he gets his food, bending down to avoid the decorations. Greendale isnât built for tall people, evidently. He laments the thought as he stares down at the solitary chicken tender on his plate. Itâs really a shame that the cafeteria doles out so few. Thatâs one of the perks of going to a community college, Jeff thinks to himself sarcastically.
Thereâs a sudden tap on his shoulder. He turns to the side, only to find Star-Burns staring at him in irritation. Jeff rolls his eyes and gets the rest of his food, before walking back to the groupâs table. He slides into the booth across from you. For a moment, thereâs nothing but awkward silence as the study group eats.
âAre you guys excited for the dance?â Annie is the one to get rid of the awkward tension. Immediately, the table bursts into conversation. Pierce starts talking about something that is definitely not moral, but the group tunes him out. Shirley says that sheâll go if she has the time, to which Annie and Britta immediately try to convince her to come. Itâs a heartwarming sight to see everyone so excited, loath Jeff is to admit it.
âTroy and I are going as Calvin and Hobbes,â Abed says, a hint of a smile flickering on his face. Heâs fiddling with something in his hands. âIâm Calvin.â Troy nods, as if he had anticipated that remark. Jeff rolls his eyes, refusing to admit that he is slightly jealous of their dynamic. Abed and Troy are always on the same page. He idly wonders what it would be like to have a person like that. Jeff shakes his head and returns his attention to his food. It seems that Greendale is really getting to his head.
âItâs not a costume danceâŚâ Britta remarks with furrowed eyebrows. Troy and Abed donât seem the least bit bothered by the statement, instead turning to look at one another and whisper about something.
âHow about you, Jeffrey?â Shirely asks, successfully turning everyoneâs attention to him. Jeff resists the urge to bang his head on the table in front of him. Unfortunately, heâs not entirely immune to the angelic smile Shirley weaponizes. He sighs. âLooking forward to the dance?â
âNo,â Jeff snarls. Itâs a characteristic prickly remark from him, so no one at the table reacts. He does catch you throwing him a worried glance, weirdly enough. Heâs just about to ask you what your concern is for when he sees someone walking determinedly to the table. Jeff turns his attention to the man striding through the aisle with a confident expression. As he gets closer, trepidation rises in Jeffâs mind.
The man comes to a stop in front of their table. It takes Jeff a few moments to realize what heâs here for; heâs not here for Britta or Annie. Hell, heâs not here for Troy or Abed either. It seems this guy is here⌠for you. Jeff immediately loses his appetite. The lone chicken tender on his plate suddenly looks revolting. He tries to fix his attention on his friends, the table in front of them, anything but the guy currently propositioning you. He tries to think about something elseâthe monstrous essay Chang assigned them thatâs due tomorrow, the test he has on Friday. Despite his attempts, Jeff still hears the guyâs every word. Itâs painfully uncomfortable for reasons he canât quite pin down.
âOh, um, sure.â Your voice draws Jeff out of his convoluted haze of thoughts. The group claps excitedly and Jeffâs heart drops right to his stomach. It seems youâre going with this guy to the dance. A shiver goes up his spine, especially when he sees the man put a hand on your shoulder. Meanwhile, Â Shirley murmurs something under her breath about Jesus, which Jeff makes sure to tune out. His hands twitch inexplicably and he accidentally makes eye contact with Abed, who gives him a knowing look. Jeff scoffs and averts his eyes, trying to look anywhere except at you. Itâs painful to see the smile on your face, despite his knowledge that itâs more reluctant than anything else. Everyone else seems entirely immune to the strange feeling curdling in Jeffâs stomach.
The rest of Jeffâs day is horrible, to say the least. He canât get that image out of his head and every time he closes his eyes, he sees the guy putting his hands all over you. Jeff grits his teeth and goes through his classes, ignoring the wayward glances and confused gazes that his classmates send him. None of it matters. The only thing that matters is the fact that youâre going to the dance with someone.
Jeff isnât homophobic. At least, he doesnât think he is. Heâs perfectly supportive of Troy and Abedâhell, back in their pining stage, he used to thoroughly enjoy teasing them. If thereâs one thing that Jeff has going for himself, itâs that he is consistent. Therefore, this sudden shift in attitude is throwing him off. Troy and Abed dating never bothered him. Annie and Britta dating never bothered him. The idea of you dating that guy, however⌠Jeff rubs his eyes roughly to rid himself of the thought.
Heâs growing to dread the Transfer Dance which, naturally, means that time passes very quickly. Itâs almost as if Jeff blinks and, suddenly, itâs the night of the dance. Annie and Britta are kind enough to invite him over. Jeff wouldâve hung out with Troy and Abed, but he knows them well enough to know heâd walk out of their apartment with a costume on. This is how Jeff finds himself sitting in Annieâs apartment with Britta, watching in amusement as they scramble to get ready.
âAre you okay, Jeff?â Annie flashes her puppy eyes and Jeff is unable to keep his menacing glare. Britta smirks victoriously from her side. âYouâve been acting a bit⌠weird⌠for the past few days.â Britta echoes the sentiment. The concerned gazes the girls level him with nearly make him blurt out all his problems right then and there.
Thankfully, the universe seems to have his back, because Annie and Britta notice the time and quickly get to their feet, practically dragging him out of the apartment. Jeff goes along, feeling a bit conflicted at the conversation fading into obscurity. He hadnât wanted to talk about it, but Annie and Britta have always been exceptional listeners. Perhaps they would have been able to help him figure things out. He gazes forlornly out the car window, ignoring the worried glances the girls exchange. The three of them make it to Greendale and are quick to walk to the entrance. Troy and Abed are waiting on the steps, dressed as Calvin and Hobbes. Jeff shakes his head in fond disbelief. Their hands are intertwined and they greet all of them. Pierce and Shirley are the next ones to arriveâjudging from Shirleyâs annoyed expression, Jeff isnât sure he wants to know why they arrived togetherâand the group is complete. Jeff tries to ignore the fuzzy feeling in his chest at the empty space at his side, the space where you would be standing. Abed claps a hand on his shoulder and the group proceeds into the gymnasium. Â
Itâs sparsely decorated, but the others seem to like it. Jeff supposes itâs charming, if youâre a community college student with nothing better to do. In that regard, it seems heâs the target demographic after all. Troy and Abed run off somewhere. Before long, Annie and Britta are dancing on the dance floor. Jeff elects to stick with Shirley and Pierce. Shirley is bemoaning her horrible evening whilst Pierce is boasting about being a good Samaritan. Jeff is trying to listen, he really is, but his mind is elsewhere.
âWhat do you think- Jeffrey!â Shirley exclaims, sending him a maleficent glare that promptly makes Jeff fear for his life. Whatever murderous intentions are running through Shirleyâs mind seem to fade upon seeing his face, strangely enough. âOh, JeffreyâŚâ Jeff squints at her. What is she talking about, and why does she have that sympathetic expression on her face? He tries to glean the answer from Pierce, but the man is instead looking at Shirley. A moment later, Pierce nods in understanding. Since when did Shirley and Pierce have telepathic communication? Jeff scoffs.
âSometimes, you just need to grow a pair,â Pierce says, a self righteous expression on his face. Jeff stares at him in disbelief. Pierce seems to interpret this as a general confusion about his statement, which he quickly clarifies. âOf balls. A pair of balls.â Shirleyâs murderous expression from earlier returns but, thankfully, itâs not directed at him. Pierce puts his hands up in a gesture of surrender.
âOh!â Shirleyâs voice breaks Jeff out of his far too short reverie. Her eyes are wide and she has a hand over her mouth. Jeff follows her gaze, trying to find what sheâs looking at. There are students milling about in groups. A few are dancing on the floor. âThere he is-!â Shirley breaks off, making a choked sound. Jeff frowns and tries to look for what sheâs talking about. There are couples making out everywhere, he recognizes in disgust. His eyes flit past a pair in the corner, internally grimacing at the way the guy pushes the other person into the wall.
Wait. Thatâs not just some person. Thatâs you.
âI knew it,â Pierce interrupts loudly, briefly tearing Jeffâs eyes away from you. Thereâs a triumphant expression on his face and Jeff immediately regrets ever speaking to the man. Pierce accused him of being gay countless times, he realizes with dread coiling in his chest. âI fucking knew it.â
Jeff doesnât bother to dignify Pierceâs remark with a response, so he instead turns back to look at you again. Upon closer inspection, he finds that youâre standing next to the guy who asked you to the dance at lunch. Although, heâs not standing near you; heâs practically standing on top of you. Jeff knows he should look away now, but his body wonât obey his commands. Heâs forced to drink in the sight of this guy holding you close and kissing you. Even worse, the bastardâs hand is on your waist. His hand is on your waist. The guyâs hand is dangerously close to sneaking under your shirt and Jeffâs stomach rolls at the thought. He isnât homophobic. Right? He doesnât think he is. But⌠this display makes him feel nauseous.
âItâs really not the time, Pierce,â Jeff detachedly hears Shirley remark. Were he in a better mental state, heâd raise an eyebrow at Shirleyâs evident lack of surprise. He expected her to be shocked at the very accusation of him actually being gay.
Before Jeff can think about what heâs doing, he is striding towards you. He hears Shirley and Pierce calling after him, but all Jeff can focus on is tearing you away from the guy. He absolutely hates the annoyed expression on the manâs face when he pulls him away, but he hates the dazed look on your face even more. Gritting his teeth, Jeff grabs your wrist and pulls you after him. You stumble along, evidently not wanting to resist and fall over in the effort. Jeff tugs you into the nearest classroom and closes the door behind the both of you, before flicking the lights on and staring at you.
âWhat the hell, Jeff?!â You immediately exclaim, clearly irritated and confused. Jeff tries to summon the courage he needs for this conversation. You donât seem keen on staying, however, as you break away from him and head back to the door. Your hand is clasping the doorknob and Jeff swears his heart starts to beat right out of his chest. Youâre so close to walking away, walking back to that bastard. He takes a deep breath.
âIâm sorry,â Jeff admits, causing you to stop in your tracks. It hurts to utter the words. However, seeing you with that man hurt far more.
âWhat?â Your eyes are wide. Jeff pretends not to notice your evident surprise.
âJust hear me out, please?â Jeff asks, internally groaning at how desperate he sounds. A few seconds pass and neither of you move. Just as he thinks youâre about to leave, you sigh and close the door. Jeff finds himself feeling thankful for your seemingly infinite patience.
âIâŚ.â Jeff tries to say. The words just wonât come out. He takes a few moments to try to recollect his thoughts. Jeff is brutally aware of the expectant look on your face. He owes you an explanation. Itâs just⌠hard to speak on his feelings. His heart is racing in his chest. Jeff takes a deep breath. âI think Iâve been jealous this whole night.â
He doesnât focus on your reaction. Now that heâs started talking, the words wonât stop falling from his lips. âThis is going to sound so stupid, butâŚI thought I was being homophobic. Every time I saw you kissing that guy, it made me sick to my stomach. I thought I was just being a douchebag, but I began to realizeâŚâ
âRealize what?â You eventually supply, after a minute passes and the statement is still caught in Jeffâs throat. He takes a deep breath, manifesting all the confidence heâs ever possessed. Heâs certain that heâs never been this nervous before. His heart is in his throat. Even so, he knows what he needs to do. Jeff knows now. Everything makes sense: the strange feeling in his chest, the anger heâd get from seeing you with that guy, the compelling urge to avoid looking at you with someone else.
âI think I have feelings for you,â Jeff chokes out. He canât bear to look at you. For an awful moment, he hears your hand clasping the doorknob and the door falling open. He averts his eyes and looks to the ceiling, the walls. Jeff canât bear to hear you reject him. He just canât bear to hear it. Instead, he waits for you to leave.
A few minutes pass and you donât leave. Thereâs a thick tension that settles in the air as neither of you speak. Jeff swallows hard. His hands twitch at his sides as he watches you take a step closer. He canât quite comprehend the expression on your face. When you finally pauseâa rather minute amount of distance between the two of youâthereâs a soft smile on your face. Jeff doesnât dare hope.
âI think I have feelings for you, too.â Jeff blinks once, twice, three times. His mind is still running through what you just said. Once again, he wonders if he misheard you. The two of you stare at each other for what feels like an eternity. Against all odds, you lean impossibly closer and kiss him.
Jeff is still processing everything, even when your lips meet. He stiffens out of reflex and youâre quick to lean back. Immediately, Jeff realizes that you probably think that he found the gesture unwelcome. Itâs quite the opposite, in fact, and he makes sure to prove it to you. He grabs your collar and yanks you closerâsomething heâs been wanting to do all night. You let out an affirming noise and Jeff resists the very compelling urge to melt into a puddle on the ground. At some point, he backs you into the door and you clutch at his shirt. Jeff himself is about to put his hands over your waist and dig his fingers into your hips when a noise sounds from the hallway. The two of you freeze and, after a shared glance, open the door behind you. Annie and Britta are standing in the hallway, suspiciously innocent expressions on their faces. Jeff lets out a long suffering sigh and pretends not to notice their smug faces as they walk back to the dance.
âI canât believe I thought I was homophobic,â Jeff remarks aloud once the group is reunited and back on the dance floor. Despite the loud music and chattered conversation around them, the entire group seems to hear him. He immediately grimaces, but itâs far too late. Britta and Annie are laughing their asses off, which heâll be sure to get them back for later. Troy and Abed send him supportive smiles that pushes the pressure off his shoulders. Shirley moves forward to hug him and, before long, itâs a giant group hug. Jeff scoffs loudly, if only to maintain appearances. Internally, heâs smiling brightly at his friends and⌠you, his new boyfriend.

[001] BEING THE YOUNGEST IN THE STUDY GROUP (nbc community headcanons)
Because I am talking about a big group, I made a little color-coded list so there should be no confusion as to who is speaking! Also, this is set about halfway through season one, so that explains the timeline.
Reader = Purple Jeff = Blue Britta = Orange Annie = Yellow Abed = Green Troy = Red Shirley = Pink
pairing: fem!reader x platonic!community warnings: none
The choice to go to community college hadn't exactly been an ideal one
You had accidentally filled out all your actual college applications wrong and didn't realize they never went through until all the application dates had passed.
So, weighing your options, you decided that Greendale was your best option.
By then you had to enroll in all the leftover classes that still had spots open
You had taken French all throughout high school and barely retained a word of it. You'd hoped to jump into some French classes for an easy A, but all of the French classes had already filled up.
The solution? Spanish 101.
You showed up to the first day of class determined to make the best of the awful hand you had been dealt.
And surprise, surprise! Spanish was nothing like French.
The teacher was a little kooky and he severely overestimated how much work his students could do before the next class.
Before you knew it, you were drowning in work that you didn't know how to do and suddenly your grade started to drop.
When your next door neighbor took a liking to blasting loud music while you were trying to study, you decided to head to one of the study rooms to try and be productive.
But when you got there, you found the table was already full of people.
"Oh! My bad, sorry-"
You tried to leave, but, due to your immense surprise, one of the girls at the table recognized you.
"Hey, wait - aren't you in our Spanish class?"
Before you could confirm, someone answered for you.
"Yeah. She sits in the third row and color codes all her notes."
You looked at him in confusion.
"I'm Abed."
And then another woman in the room smiled at you.
"You color code your notes?"
You nodded and took them out to show her, but a douchey looking guy in a leather jacket scoffed.
"The only people who color code notes are horse girls and psychopaths."
Four years of going to public school has made you immune to assholes...and excellent at shutting them down.
So you slapped down your color coded notes and took the chair beside him.
"I bet this psychopath's color coded notes can teach you more Spanish in five minutes than an entire semester of whatever blow-off class you're taking."
And again, to your surprise, he almost looked impressed.
"I'm Jeff Winger."
"Y/n L/n."
And just like that, you were in.
You met with the group every day after class to work on the Spanish homework and study for upcoming tests and quizzes
But, to be honest, you guys weren't always great at staying on task.
"Okay, um... yo nacĂ en mil novecientos noventa y dos."
"Hang on, that can't be right. You just said you were born in 1992."
"No, that's right."
"Y/n, that would make you seventeen."
"...Yeah?"
Needless to say, they kinda lost it.
"You're even younger than me! Wait, I'm not the youngest anymore? Ha! Suck it, Y/n!"
"I started school a year early and I have a late birthday! I don't know what the big deal is."
"No big deal, I just didn't know that there was a child in our midst."
"I am not a child."
"Aw, look at them pouting! They're so little and adorable."
Thus began your long journey of trying to prove to your friends that you were not a child.
Your first step? Changing up your look.
And boy did you turn some heads when you walked into the study room in a leather jacket and thick eyeliner
"Okay Wednesday Addams, give us our Y/n back and no one gets hurt."
"Jeff, I'm trying to prove a point."
"Is the point that you lost a bet with the cosmetology class?"
So...yeah. That didn't go as well as you were hoping.
Even so, they stuck by you through all of your erratic, split second decisions that you made without really considering the consequences
Like when you walked into the first day of second semester with bangs you had cut yourself over the break.
Surprisingly, Abed seemed to be the one most enthusiastic about them.
âItâs likely that weâve just began a new season, so one of the main characters changed up their look to provide a jumping off point and to keep viewers interested.â
Silence followedâŚ
âI like them.â
âAw, thanks Abed!â
But, obviously, you endured some teasingâmostly from Jeff.
âOkay, remind me not to let Mia Wallace near a pair of scissors ever again.â
âDid you just Google âfemale characters with bangsâ and use the first one on the list?â
"âŚNo.â (Jeff said as he slyly put his phone back in his pocket.)
The group became like a family to you, but sometimes you missed your family
Especially when they called and said that they couldn't make it to Family Day. You had had the sneaking suspicion that they were disappointed that you ended up at Greendale, but this seemed to confirm it.
You did your best not to let on how upset you were by brushing it off when you were asked.
"Y/n, how worried should I be about interacting with your parents on a scale of Helicopter Mom to Cougar?"
"Actually, my parents aren't coming to Family Day."
"Oh no, why not?"
"They were just busy. It's fine, I saw them a couple weeks ago. No big deal."
Family day approached and you were actually feeling pretty okay about the situation. Acting like you didn't care had actually made you not care, which you thought at the time was a good thing.
But as you sat in the quad and watched everyone walk around with their relatives, talking and touring, you realized just how upset you really were.
So you left.
You found yourself hunched over your Spanish textbook in the empty study room reading the same sentence over and over and mindlessly writing unhelpful notes that you'd never actually study.
You weren't sure how long you'd been there before you noticed someone looking over your shoulder.
"That's odd, these Spanish notes are in black and white."
"I wasn't in the mood to color code. Plus Abed stole all my pens to make mini lightsabers."
Jeff sat next to you, taking your textbook and notebook and placing them on the other side of the table.
"Look, I know that I spend a lot of time trying to act like I'm older than I am, but I'm still a kid. Know how I know? Because I miss my mom and dad. I was always a little afraid to leave home, so when I had to come here for school, I had to admit that I felt a little relieved to be only an hour away from where I grew up. I felt safer knowing my parents would only be a short car ride away. But now it just feels like they might as well be on the other side of the country. I know they're disappointed I didn't go to an Ivy League or get to go out of state for college, but I wish they'd just get over it and accept it. I have. Why can't they?"
Jeff never considered himself particularly good at the advice thing. Sure, he could talk until hell froze over and manipulate anyone into doing his bidding, but he could never figure out how to make sad people be less sad. You may have been young, but you weren't naive - he knew that.
He saw you now like a younger sibling rather than a jury member or someone he was trying to con. So he decided to speak accordingly.
"People are stupid. Parents are stupid. Greendale may not be Ivy League, but it's something. You could've blown off college and stayed at home where it's safe, but you didn't. You cared enough to pack your stuff, drive sixty minutes away, rob an entire Office Depot, and enroll in the last classes they had available. You did all that because you care. And if they can't see that, then that's on them. I may not know a whole lot about warm, fuzzy, familial relationships, but I do know this: you have a family here at Greendale. A weird, messed up, occasionally problematic family. So screw Family Day. We're a study group. And I wouldn't trade that for the world."
You hadn't expected to tear up, but you did anyway. You said nothing and hugged Jeff, who reluctantly returned it.
"I'll steal your pens back from Abed."
"Thanks."
The rest of the year progressed smoothly. Sure, you guys had your ups and downs of course, but you always found yourselves back in the group study room after class
But that, you supposed, was what a family did.
Author's Note: Can you tell I'm obsessed with Community??? Ugh this was so fun to write, I genuinely love the headcanon format because it's how my brain just functions, so this was really good for me to write to get out of my head for a bit. It's also funny bc this is how it is with my friend group, all of which are in college except for me, so it was fun to draw from some real life experiences. I hope you guys had a lovely week and I hope this makes you smile! Much love đđ¤

Hi! When you get the chance i would love to request some jealous jeff winger x gender neutral reader (established relationship) headcanons? NSFW and SFW! (Fem Body Parts lol) Possibly reader is part of the study group and their ex comes by in search of them! Tysm for reading đđ
hii angel thank you for the request!! we hope you like this as much (or even more) than the leonard match up hehe
Headcanons: Jealous! Jeff Winger x gn! reader
SFW
One day, when you are chilling with the study group at Greendale, the dean the door and announces, "I have news! We have a new student, one of my favorite students actually and beautiful but not more handsome than Jeff. Meet (ex's name)!
Your ex walks in and Jeff is instantly like who is this buffoon. You start freaking out and Jeff notices this. He asks you what's up but before you can answer your ex spots you and hugs you, saying how different you look now. Jeff immediately dislikes how close this random person is to you.
From then on Jeff is in alpha dog mode. He puts his arm around you when y'all sit together for lunch. He makes sure never to leave you alone with your ex for too long.
He would keep tabs on how much you guys interact by shamefully making Chang spy on you using the vents.
He would lock the door of the study room to stop your ex from entering.
He would research your ex thoroughly just to prove he is better than them and ensure you know that. He would find out the ex's profession, home address, medical history, whether they have Italian faucets or not etc. You might get concerned that Jeff is more into your ex because of how obsessed Jeff becomes with them.
The rest of the study group would not be pleased. You guys would get "Jeffrey you're being weird" from Shirley and Annie and tons of teasing from Britta and Troy. Abed wouldn't care and Pierce would be really understanding. This would reduce calm Jeff down and he'd be less creepy in his jealousy from then on.
N/SFW
You guys would make out intensely after biology class to show how babies are made right in front of your ex
Every time your ex comes within earshot he loudly exclaims his love for you or something sexual you guys did. "Oh gee, remember y/n we fucked right in that hallway."
He would definitely smack your butt in front of your ex.
He would show up to Greendale in a BDSM top just to show how wild and kinky you both were last night.
Yours jealously,

Hide Your Love Away
Jeff Winger x gn!reader
Warnings: jeff makes a suicide joke, mentions of smut
Summary: Secret relationship with Jeff
Anyone who had met Jeff Winger would say that he was an arrogant asshole who was often prone to making what some would call âinspiring pep-talksâ. You on the other hand would call him charming, sweet, funny, and honestly a little dorky.
But no one else knew Jeff like you did. He was very good at hiding that part of himself from everyone else. He felt it was his job to be the person with no problems, the person that others could come to with their problems. Heâd never admit it out loud, but he was proud to be the hypothetical leader of the study group.
So when he started dating you, a fellow study group member, he wanted to keep it from the others, afraid that if they found out theyâd make a huge deal out of it.
It all started at one of the dozen school dances the dean planned that year. Annie had asked if you were going, and you told her you werenât. Plus, no one had asked you, so what fun would it be sitting by yourself? You made it clear to the group that you would be sitting this one out.
That is, until someone did ask you. His name was Trent, he was someone Britta knew from one of her classes. He seemed sweet enough, and you figured if you werenât having fun you could always hang out with the study group.
On the night of the dance, Trent picked you up and drove you back to Greendale. The lights were an obnoxious purple, and music was blasting all around the cafeteria. You spotted Jeff, Troy, and Abed all standing around a table and waved at them.
Trent danced with you for a couple songs before excusing himself to get some drinks. You walked over to the once full table, that was now occupied only by Jeff.
âWhere did Troy and Abed go?â you ask as you lean against the table.
âOh who knows, probably off reenacting an 80âs-movie-dance-sequence.â
You laugh, and look back at the crowd dancing.
âYou look amazing by the way.â Jeff says.
You look back at him and blush. âThank you.â Thereâs an awkward silence. âYou look great too, very handsome.â You say quickly.
He chuckles. âThank you.â he replies.
Another moment of awkward silence.
âI should go find my date, my Trent, go find my date, Trent.â you say as you slowly back away from the table.
He laughs, and gives you a smile. âAlright, have fun.â
You awkwardly wave goodbye as you stumble into other people on the dance floor.
You make your way over to the punch bowl, but you donât see Trent anywhere. Surely heâs just waiting for you at a table because you talked to Jeff for to long. You look around and donât see him anywhere. You find an empty table and sit down, hoping youâll spot him soon.
âSo howâs it going?â A voice asks next you. You turn and see Britta has taken a seat next to you.
âGood, Trent seems nice. I havenât seen him in a little while though.â You tell her.
âYeah, I thought he was cool, he thought you were cute so I thought you were a good match.â
âYou thought we were a good match? Britta, did you get Trent to ask me to the dance?â You ask. You can feel anger starting to rise in you.
She looks back at you with worry in her eyes. âI just suggested that he ask you to the dance. I knew that you werenât coming because no one asked you, so I thought that if someone did ask you, you could come and have fun with the rest of us.â
âBritta. I said I wasnât coming because I didnât want to come. The fact that no one asked me was just an additional statement.â
âIâm so sorry Y/N, I just thought you two would really hit it offâ
You sighed. âI need some air.â You got up and went outside.
You took a deep breath, and paced back and forth on the sidewalk. You shook your hands out, trying to relieve some of the tension in your body. You take a seat on the steps and lean your head against the cold railing. You pull out your phone and look for a price for a car back to your apartment. You manage to find one for $30, but before you hit the confirm button, you hear a voice behind you.
âHey.â You turn and see Jeff standing there with his hands in his pockets.
âHey.â You respond, turning back to your phone.
âWhatâs up? I came out thinking I could escape the dean, and here you are looking like youâre about to write your suicide note.â He takes a seat next you. You donât respond and continue to stare at your phone.
âHey,â he nudges you with his knee, âyou okay?â He asks softly.
You sigh. âYeah, Iâm fine, itâs stupid really.â
He glances at your phone and asks âWhere are you going?â
âHome. Back to my apartment.â You say.
âYou donât have to buy an uber, I can just drive you home.â He says as he stands up.
âI really donât wanna be a bother Jeff, besides, youâre probably having fun, I donât wanna bring your mood down.â
He holds his hand out for you to take. âCome on.â
You take his hand and stand up, walking with him to his car.
On the drive back to your apartment you explain what happened at the dance. He tells you that he knew tons of guys who were talking about asking you to the dance, so one bad date really wasnât worth your sadness. When you get to your apartment he steps out of the car as well.
âYou donât have to walk me to my door Jeff.â You tell him
âCould you imagine the hell I would have to pay if something happened to you and the rest of the group found out it was because I let you walk to your door by yourself?â He joked.
You laughed as he walked around the car to you. He rested his hand on the small of your back as the two of you walked to your door.
âThis is me.â You say as you get to your door. âThank you, Jeff, for making this night a little more bare able.â
âYouâre welcome Y/N.â You unlock the door and start to head inside. âGoodnight Jeff.â
âGoodnight Y/N.â He says. He starts to walk back down the hall as you close your door. You lean against the door and sigh.
Then, something happened. You think your brain just short circuited because you open your door again and start down the hall.
âJeff! Jeff!â You call out. By the time youâve caught up to him heâs at his car.
âWhat? Are you okay?â He asks, concern taking over his face.
âYeah, yeah, I just need something.â
âWh-â he begins but you cut him off, pressing your lips to his.
You wrap your arms around his neck, and he rests his hands on your hips, pulling you closer to him.
People always talk about feeling fireworks when you kissed someone. But you didnât feel that with Jeff. It was like kissing him triggered a series of flashbacks in your head. All of those days sitting next to him in the study group. Him always laughing at your jokes, even when they werenât funny. Those nights where you would gather for movie night at Troy and Abedâs and fall asleep cuddled together on the couch.
When you both have to break apart for air you rest your foreheads against each other.
âSoâŚâ you trail off.
âSoâŚâ he says as he laughs softly.
âI really like you Jeff. And not to sound like a child, but I really like-like you.â
âI really like-like you too.â
And that is how the two of you got together. It took some trial and error when it came to Jeff though. He didnât like when you used terms like âboyfriendâ because they made him nervous. If you were spending the night together it had to be at his house, so that the girls wouldnât pop by for a surprise visit.
The hiding was starting to wear you out. You were tired of making up excuses about why you couldnât hang out with Annie and Britta so that you could, inevitably, end up eating takeout with Jeff in his living room, then spending the night at his apartment.
It was another day with the study group when you finally decided it was time to have a talk about your relationship.
You felt Jeff softly kick you under the table. You took your phone out of your pocket, and looked at the text from Jeff.
âSleepover tonight? đâ
You sigh and respond,
âCanât. Big test coming up. Studying with Annie 2nite.â
He frowns as he reads your text.
âYou okay?â
Just as youâre about to respond, itâs time for the group to leave for the day. You gather up your things and walk out into the hall.
You feel someone grab ahold of your arm and pull you into an empty classroom.
âHey, whatâs up?â Jeff asks you.
âNothing. Everythingâs all good.â You say. He doesnât look convinced.
âIf you donât wanna come over because of the maintenance people interrupting last week, I promise I made sure that my calendar is empty tonight.â He says as he starts to wrap you in his arms.
âIs that all I am to you? Just someone to sleep with? And no one knows so youâre free to go around and flirt with whoever you choose? I canât call you my boyfriend, so I donât even know if weâre dating or not!â You push him away.
âWoah, hey, what? No! I really like you! Why would you think I just use you?â He questions.
âWell I wouldnât know that you really liked me. Weâre never allowed to go out in public, it feels like you keep me locked in your apartment sometimes!â
He stands there, and doesnât respond.
âYou know what?â You sigh. âMaybe this was a mistake. Maybe we shouldnât be together.â You say softly.
âNo, Y/N⌠Please donât leave me.â He reaches out for your hand, but you pull it away.
âIâm sorry Jeff, but until you learn to be in an adult relationship, Iâm done.â You say. You turn and walk out the door, leaving him there in the dark.
The next day you donât go to study group. The chair next to Jeff remains empty, while the rest of the group creates theories about where you actually are.
The following day you decide that youâre going to have to face him at some point, so itâd be best to just get it over with. You get to the study room first and take your seat. The rest of the group files in after you. Annie is first, followed by Shirley, then Troy and Abed, Britta, then Pierce. Lastly Jeff. When he sees you he almost stops, but he walks to his seat and sits down.
Just as Annie is starts to explain the new group project you all will be working on, Jeff speaks up.
âI have something to say.â He stands up abruptly.
It takes him a moment to gather his thought with the rest of the study group watching him.
âI like Y/N.â He says. Itâs short, and to the point.
Thereâs a moment of silence, until Troy stands up as well.
âI like Y/N too.â He says. Britta looks over at him and shakes her head.
Troy looks at her confused, then seemingly processes the situation and says âOh, you mean you love Y/N? My bad.â He awkwardly sits back down.
You look to the rest of the group and sigh. âJeff doesnât love me-â
You donât know that.â He says, interrupting you.
You turn back to look at him again. He looks a little nervous, like heâs afraid that everyone in the room is judging him.
âI really like Y/N, and it was wrong of me to make them keep us a secret. Ever since we started dating there hasnât been anyone else that Iâve been interested in. I really hope they can forgive me.â He looks down at you.
You honestly donât know what to say. The rest of the study group is watching you with baited breath. âCould we finish this conversation in private?â You ask him.
Groans come from the table as you take Jeffâs hand and lead him away from the group.
âWow.â You say once youâre far enough from the group, and positive they arenât spying on you two. âWhen I said I wanted to be in an adult relationship I didnât expect you to just lay everything out in front of the group.â
âWell I wanted to tell you how I feel without hiding it. It was wrong of me to want you to keep us a secret and to expect that you would just be cool with it. I would love to be in a public relationship with you Y/N.â He says. He looks sincere when he says it.
You take a step closer to him and run your hand up and down his arm. âSo, does that mean you wanna be my boyfriend?â You ask looking up at him.
He laughs. âYes, I wanna be your boyfriend.â
You smile up at him. âGood. Because I wanna be your girlfriend/boyfriend/partner.â
You reach up to cup his face in your hands and kiss him. You can hear cheers from outside, but you donât care, and neither does he.

Private - Yandere!Jeff Winger x reader
trigger warning: contains physical abuse and blood/gore. please read at your own discretion
You were eating your lunch alone, thankfully no Jeff in sight. You were finally able to do something without your boyfriend.
âHey, (y/n)! Are you staying for study group later?â Annie asked, coming up to your table and sitting down.
âDonât I stay every day?â you asked, an edge to your voice. You didnât mind the group, but you hated spending the extra time with Jeff when you could be, I donât know, studying for a class you were actually in.
Annie took a second to think. âYeah, I guess you do. Sorry. Have a good lunch,â she offered, walking away like a wilted flower.
You finished your sandwich, threw away your tray and headed in the direction of your American Lit class. Head in the clouds, you were caught off guard when you felt someone grab the back of your backpack and pull you towards them.
âHey, wh-â you began, suddenly realizing it was your boyfriend.
âWhat did Annie say?â he said through gritted teeth, leading you down the hallway.
âWhat?â
âAt lunch. I saw Annie come up to you. Donât play dumb, what did she say?â
âJesus, Jeff. She just asked if I was coming to the study group today.ďżź I have to go to class, see you after school,â you huffed, going into your classroom before Jeff had a chance to do anything else.
-
âIâm serious, why canât they just make a pickle packet? They have mayo packets, ketchup packets-â Troy began, but you stopped listening.
You were staring into space and wishing you were anywhere but here. All of a sudden, you had an idea.
âYou know what, Troy? I think youâre right. And I think we should go out to dinner tomorrow night and sample every single condiment together,â you suggested, grinning at the blushing boy.
You were a tad bit sorry for milking Troyâs crush on you, but you knew Jeffâs reaction would be hilarious. It wasnât, however, hilarious when Jeff stood up, said âwe have somewhere to be,â then basically tugged you out of the study room by your sleeve.
âPlease, just talk to me. Iâm sorry, okay? It wasnât funny to flirt with your friend. I just wondered what youâd do. I didnât think youâd get mad. I wonât go out with him, Jeff. Just say something, anything, please.â
Your boyfriend stayed silent the entire ride to your shared apartment. He didnât even speak when you arrived, just grabbed a glass and poured himself a drink.
âIâm going to take a shower,â you said, dropping your bookbag on the couch and heading to the bathroom.
âYou arenât going to do a single fucking thing, you hear me? Iâm going to fuck you up so badly that youâre never even going to think about doing anything like that again,â Jeff yelled, grabbing you and turning you towards him.
âJeff stop!â you gasped, as he grabbed both of your arms and shoved you at his bar cart. He didnât even wait to see what happened, just went back to the kitchen to retrieve his drink.
Your torso came down right on top of both layers of glass, penetrating your skin and causing you to fall at and awkward angle.
âHoly shit, Iâm bleeding!â you cried, touching your lower back and feeling the blood gushing from your wound. You couldnât even get up, you were in so much pain.
âShut up,â Jeff moaned, pouring more scotch into his glass.
âJeff, what the fuck! I need help, maybe even stitches,â you yelled, still unable to get up. The glass shards in your back created a stabbing, aching pain.
âI said shut the fuck up!â Jeff shouted. He turned towards you, fire in his eyes, and launched his glass at your cowering figure.
You threw your arm up in an attempt to cover your head. The glass hit your arm and shattered, leaving more glass and blood and definitely a bruise on your arm.
âJeff, youâre hurting me!â you whimpered.
âAnd I donât fucking care. Now look, youâre bleeding all over my expensive carpet,â he seethed, hatred in his cruel blue eyes.
At this point, you were hyperventilating. Your boyfriend was hurting you, abusing you, and you couldnât even get up.
âYou better have this shit cleaned up by tomorrow morning.â

You Called Him Your Boyfriend
Pairing: Jeff Winger x Reader
Fandom: Community
Summary: You make a passing comment about Jeff being your boyfriend, and Jeff doesnât exactly agree.
Warnings: None!
*******
The weekendâs laziness had taken full hold of you and Jeff. The two of you were cuddling on the couch and watching TV. Despite that comfortable position, your phone started to ring. You groaned when you realized it was all the way on the side table at the other end of the sofa. To answer it, you sat up and untangled yourself from Winger.
   âHello?â
It was one of your friends from outside Greendale. She wanted to know if you wanted to go out for some lunch with her and some other friends of yours.
âNo, Iâm good,â you refused politely. âIâm over my boyfriendâs.â
Your friend didnât mind. The call ended some odd seconds later.
After putting your phone down, you went to laay back down with Jeff.
Jeff, however, moved so he was sitting. He seemed uncomfortable.
âYou okay?â You immediately noticed his change in attitude.
Jeff tried to play it off. âWho, me? Iâm fine. Iâm great, actually.â
To respond, you didnât say anything. You just rearranged yourself so you could give him a proper look. You waited patiently for him to say something.
Jeff sighed, âDonât you think itâs a little too early to use the term boyfriend?â
âOh. So thatâs what it is,â you cringed, and got up to gather your things.
Winger got up, too. âWait, you donât need to go. I just--â
âNo. Youâve said all you need to. I know all I need to know.â
   âY/n, just wait!â
Too late, you were already gone.
The next time you saw Jeff was Monday night when he showed up at your apartment. You hadnât spoken to him since the previous Saturday, and you didnât show up to study group that day.
You slammed the door in Jeffâs face as soon as you saw him.
âY/n. Come on, please. I just want to talk. Please, open the door...I miss you.â
Biting your lip, you mulled over how you hated Jeff for being able to pull on your heartstrings so easily. You opened your door.
He smiled a little as soon as he saw you. âHey. Can I come in?â
Almost groaning, you rolled your eyes and stepped aside.
Jeff entered your apartment. âSo, Iâd like to apologize for what I said the other day...I didnât mean it.â
The look on your face told him that you werenât believing a single word he was saying.
Jeff continued, âReally, I didnât. I...was scared. You and I got really close really fast, and it scared me. But now I know I was wrong to be afraid. I shouldnât be scared. Not with you.â
âAll this because I called you my boyfriend,â you smirked. You were coming around.
Jeff smiled. âYou can call me whatever you want.â He walked up to you and pulled you in by your hips. âJust donât leave me like that again.â
âDonât act like that again, and I wonât leave you again.â You placed your hands on the sides of his face.
âDeal,â he promised before leaning down to kiss you.

Masterclass in Denial
Jeff Winger x Reader (Female pronouns)
Part 1 of 5
The 4 times you and Jeff denied your feelings for each other and the 1 time you didn't.
They were arguing again. They were always arguing. For a group of people who choose to spend all their time together they didn't seem to like each other very much. Y/n questioned her sanity, they all drove her crazy as well, but she too still chose to show up at every study group session. Maybe misery does love company, she smirked to herself.
"I just don't think it's fair!" Annie protested, "I go to every lecture, do my homework, take notes and then every time there's a test you all expect me to help you guys!" She ended her spiel with her arms crossed and a firm nod.
There was a chorus of objections, whines, and pleas from the group. Y/n mumbled about how she also has been at every class and has taken notes right alongside Annie. They quickly fell quiet when Jeff slammed his hands down on the table, starting another one of his famous pep talks. They went through this same song as dance every week it seemed. Y/n looked around the table, Annie was still pouting, but listening intently as Jeff spoke. Shirley sat alert, with her hands folded in front of her, nodding along glancing at Annie to see if the words were having their desired effect. Pierce was slouched back in his chair, head hung low - a snore escaped his open mouth, no one bothered to wake him, it was for the better. Troy and Abed were having some sort of silent conversation with a tremendous amount of eyebrow and shoulder wiggling. Britta was a near mirror image of Shirley, adding in a 'yeah' of support when appropriate.
"...In conclusion, America!"Jeff finished his monologue, plopping into his chair, arms spread wide, and a grin plastered on his face.
Annie dropped her shoulders, and sighing in defeat she pulled out her binder and began passing out individual copies of her notes. Y/n snatched her copy, eager to finally get studying and end the bickering.Â
"So the test is supposed to cover chapters twelve through fourteen, I think we should quiz each other on vocab, and then-"
"VOCAB?!" Pierce cut in, irritable over the disruption of his nap. "As in vocabulary? We all already know words! How else would we be having this conversation?!"
"Pierce, you know that's not what-"
"Listen, I do know words, but what about-"
"What are these extra pages? Did we have homework?!-"
Annie, Troy, and Britta all began talking at once. Annie quickly shifted to chastise Britta. Pierce and Shirley launched into their third argument of the day. Troy and Abed pulled a magic eight ball seemingly out of thin air, to ask it if they were going to pass the test. Y/n gaped in horror before turning to Jeff who was oblivious, leaning back in his chair tapping away on his phone.
"Jeff, please do something!"
"They'll tire themselves out eventually." He shrugged without looking up.
Two hours later Y/n walked out of the library worried she was less prepared for the test than she had been this morning.
"Y/n!" Jeff called as she hurried down the steps. "Wait up!"
Y/n sighed and slowed her pace. Jeff jogged up to her, puffing out his chest as he discreetly tried to slow his breathing, ever concerned of his image.
"I think we've earned ourselves a drink over at Tavern 32."
'This must be hell, I died and this is my penance, to be stuck in an endless loop of crazy. Maybe Greendale was actually purgatory.' Y/n thought to herself. The whole reason they are all here is to finish school, get whatever degree needed, and move on with their lives, hopefully never thinking of this fever dream of a school ever again. Well, maybe not Jeff, he seemed to see the campus as his own personal dating app. Y/n resumed her gate.
"How do you figure? We didn't even open the book! Now I'm going to have to spend the rest of my night studying at home."Â
"Cool, cool, I'll just grab some drinks from the store and we can have our own private study sesh at your place" Dear god, that grin, how many women has he fooled with that grin alone?
" 'No' is a full sentence Jeff. Have a good night." Y/n continued to her car and sped off without a second glance.
He just couldn't win with her, none of his usual charms worked. Even Britta has succumbed a couple times, but Y/n was immune. He tried to shake off the rejection and headed home. Telling himself the only reason it bothered him was because he hadn't won her over yet. Once she gave in, he'd lose interest, just like he always did. It was just a game. It wasn't guilt he felt earlier when she looked at him disapprovingly for not stepping in on the groups arguing. It wasn't his heart speeding up when her hand brushed his at the study table. It's just a game, give him his prize and then on to the next one. Jeff smacked the steering wheel and jerked left into the parking lot of the same bar he was trying to take Y/n to earlier. He doesn't need Y/n, he doesn't need anyone. He's Jeff fucking Winger.
The next morning Jeff sat slumped in his chair. Sunglasses on, clutching his third espresso like a lifeline. Y/n took her usual seat next to him, slamming her notebook on the table, relishing in the groan that emitted from her hungover classmate.
"Studied too hard last night?" She mused.Â
Jeff lifted his head to reply. He swore she couldn't be more perfect, but here she was, light streaming from the window behind her, setting her aglow, that huge ugly sweater swallowing her whole, and her unbrushed hair sticking out in every direction. She was holding out a breakfast sandwich to him. Jeff lifted his sunglasses with a questioning look.
"Sausage, egg, and cheese, best hangover cure there is." She beamed at him.
"How did you - "
"Good morning class, clear off your desks, you have forty-five minutes to complete..."
Y/n shifted her attention to their professor. Jeff dug into the sandwich, the grease immediately working its magic. As he ate, he snuck glances at the girl next to him. He needed to stop chasing her, she was way too good for him.

Cool
(Abed x reader)
(Y/N)- Your Name
(F/N)- friends name
âI canât believe youâre dragging me to this!â My friend (F/N) said, eating a box of Thin Mints as we walked down the halls of Greendale Community College. I grabbed the box from her hands and shoved it back in my book bag.
âWould you stop eating all my snacks?â I asked hurriedly. âI bought these for the movie! Does it look like weâre watching The Breakfast Club? No, so donât start eating yet.â She rolled her eyes, and continued walking.
âYou know, you remind me of this kid in my Spanish class. Abed? Heâs a real film buff.!You know him?â She took out her phone, as started texting someone.
âDo you think all film buffs know each other?â I asked, trying to look over her shoulder, to see who she was chatting with.
âI donât know, maybe.â She responded, smiling.
âWho are you texting?â I asked, shoving my hands in my pockets.
âNo one.â We walked across the lawn, through the quad, and ended up at the âcinemaâ. And old class room with a projector, and clear, white wall. I pulled on the handle of the door, when (F/N) stopped me. âWhats your damage, Heather?â I asked, cocking my head to the side a bit.
âSo, you know how I was texting someone?â She asked while fiddling with the phone in her hands.
âYou mean a few minutes ago? Yes, I believe I recall that.â I said, sarcastically. She glared at me, and continued.
âWell, I was texting a guy-â I glared at her. âNo! You donât understand! Heâs reaaally hot! Jeff Winger? Youâve met him before, right?â I shook my head.
âWhy do you assume Iâve met everyone on campus?!â
âWell anyway, he asked if I wanted to meet him in five, for dinner. And I said yes.â
âYouâre kidding!â I gasped.
âNo, Iâm not.â She started walking across the lawn to the parking lot.
âYou suck!â I yelled, as I walked into the building. I weaved through the halls until I found the room I was looking for. Inside the room, was a projector, a few rows of chairs, and one boy sitting in the very back. He had black hair, dark skin, and a slim body. He gave a little wave, which I returned, before sitting in the front row, putting my bag on the floor next to me. I grabbed a bag of Sour Patch Kids, and a bottle of doctor pepper, before sitting up and enjoying the movie.
âHey.â The guy from the back. He sat down next to me, and held out his box of Milk Duds. I grabbed one from the box, and popped it into my mouth. I offered him a Sour Patch, and he did the same.
âThanks.â I whispered, giving him a smile. âIâm (Y/N).â He returned the smile, and stuck out his hand.
âAbed.â He responded.
Ah... so this is the guy (F/N) was telling me about. I nodded my head, as we both continued to watch the movie. At the end of the screening, I picked up my trash, shoved it in my bag, and turned to Abed.
âI was going to tell you this earlier, but I didnât want to get in the way of the movie. I really like your shirt.â I said, motioning to his Inspector Spacetime t-shirt. He glanced down, and nodded.
âYou watch the show?â He asked, his head tilted to the side, ever so slightly. Gosh, heâs cute
âYeah! Itâs one of my favorites!â I said, getting excited that someone was as geeky as I was.
âThanks. I like you too.â I fiddled with the hem of my When Harry Met Sally shirt. âYour shirt, I like your shirt.â
âWhy thank you.â I smiled. âWell, I better get home.â I stood up, and walked to the door, before pausing, and turning around. Abed sat, in the same spot as before. He stared blankly at the wall, as is started back to the seat by him. I sat back down, and pulled out my phone. âCan I get your number? Thereâs a showing of Casablanca on Thursday. Would you be interested?â He took my phone, and put in his number, with a smirk. He handed it back, and smiled.
âCool. Cool, cool, cool.â I chuckled, and smiled back.
âCool.â I stood once again, and walked to the door. âSee you Thursday.â
1 YEAR LATER
Abed and I walked down the halls of Greendale, hand in hand, and looking at all the posters, and updates on the wall. I gasped, and ran over to a poster, on the spanish room door.
âAbed! Theyâre playing the Breakfast Club on Saturday! We should go!â I looked into his eyes, and smiled. âIt is our movie!âHe tilted his head, and nodded.
âSounds fun.â He looked down at me, and smiled. I chucked, and pecked his lips, which he gladly returned.
âCool.â I said, before we continued walking down the hall again.
âCool, cool, cool.â
Sorry about the crappy ending... and crappy overall story. If you have any requests, (any fandom! Sorry if I donât know it.) let me know!

⢠Rooming with Troy and Abed had been one of the easiest decisions of your life. Two years of friendship and student debt loans really did a lot to convince a person
⢠You were a little worried about the actual process of moving, considering what happened last time the study group got together to move, but it ended up going pretty smooth. Jeff didn't even try to pretend he was sick this time, something that Britta sarcastically applauded him for. And Shirley held back from judging you about your lack of Christian memorabilia. She instead resorted to clutching her cross necklace tighter than the time she found out Britta smoked pot
⢠In between lugging boxes and bedframes around, Annie reassured you over and over that she was totally fine with you taking up the apartment vacancy instead of her. She was honestly looking forward to her new place just off the cusp of campus grounds. Said it would be easier to get in for a midnight study session. Whatever that meant
⢠You just nodded slowly and excused yourself to pack in a different corner
⢠Troy and Abed on the other hand were absolutely stoked throughout the move. So much so, that they put most of their shenanigans on pause to get the move over faster. Most of them.
⢠"Abed, untie Troy from the chair. I need to put that in the back of my car. You can do that when we get to your place."
⢠"Ten more minutes?"
⢠"No, guys."
⢠"Aw man."
⢠The next few hours ran as smooth as they could with eight people trying to walk up two flights of stairs. Eventually, everything got unloaded into the living room, and excuses were made as why people had to leave. Some more elegantly than others
⢠"Yeah, as much as I'd love to stay and watch you three nerds discuss which Batman poster goes whereâ" Jeff hummed as he typed away on his phone, "âI've got places to be and women to charm."
⢠"What he said!"
⢠"Pierce, I don't think there's a single lady out there that would touch you with a ten foot pole." You deadpanned
⢠"Ertha Kitt did. And she did more than just touch meâ"
⢠"Okay. Out."
⢠Troy and Abed surprised you that night with a new pair of pajamas to match their own, and an impromtu Inspector Spacetime marathon
â˘Both of them beamed when you came out into the living room later wearing it. A part of you figured they were just happy that you were cool with your blanket fort, though
⢠You ended up sitting criss crossed on top of an unpacked box while they took to their knockoff la-z-boys
⢠"Do you guys think we should actually unpack things before starting the next episode?" You asked at some point late into the night, glancing at the blinking analog clock on the TV stand
⢠"No." Abed answered you without even looking up from the end credits
⢠"Yeah me neither." You grinned. "I want to see if Reggie kills any blorgons this time."
⢠All in all, becoming their third best friend and tennant was one of the best decisions any of you had madeâeven if it did take you a month to convince Troy and Abed to let you take partial room in the dreamatorium

Transfer Dance
Paring: Jeff Winger x Reader
Show: Community
Word Count: 1.6KÂ
~Master~
You knew shouldnât have gone to the dance. After Slater welcomed herself back into the picture, you felt any chances at had with Jeff gone. He was forever to remain your best friend. Nothing more. You loved your friends, you really did, but with Jeff everything was easier. Sure, when the group first joined together, he was hitting on you, a lot, but soon all the flirtations subsided, and Britta got the most of his attempts. You were the one getting the friend side of the man. The side that always bickered with him over the dumbest things, holding grudges until he brought you your favorite food. You were the one he was always drunk dialing, something you loved to use to joke at him and an event that occurred just as often on your store. That was when you realized you liked Jeff more than you shouldâve, and you lost the opportunity to tell him.
The dance was crowded as you walked in wearing dress and a pair of heels you hardly ever wore and searched around for your friends. Pierce was playing the piano as you looked past him, seeing the rest of your friends crowded around a table, looking like the life was drained out of them. You chuckled to yourself, your heels clicking across the cafeteria floor as you walked over. Shirley saw you first, waving her hand in the air at you. You shot her a smile as the rest of your friends turned around.
âWow Y/N. You clean up nicely.â Troy said as you grinned at him. While his compliment was nice, he wasnât the one you wanted attention from. You tried to hide the fact you looked at Jeff out of the corner of your eye. You couldâve sworn you saw him slack-jawed looking at you, but you couldnât confirm your suspicions before Annie came running into the room.
âGuys!â she called out, getting you to turn and look at her. âVaughn got recruited to a college in Delaware. Iâm gonna go with him for the summer.â She smiled at you all.
âClassic last-day-of-school plot twist.â Abed said before Annie went on, telling you of Vaughnâs desires to become a famous hackie-sacker. You couldnât ignore the fact you were happy for her, she had the guts to get with a guy she liked. You shouldâve asked for her advice.
âY/N? Can you help me get refreshments?â She turned to you and suddenly her brows were drawn together.
âUh, yeah of course.â You said as she grabbed your wrist and pulled you along. You spared a glance back to Shirley, Troy, Abed, and Jeff. The first three were engaging in their own conversations while Jeff was watching you get hauled off, raising his brow at you. You just shrugged, stopping when you got to the refreshment table. âWhatâs going on Annie, youâre acting weird.â
âIâm not just going to Delaware for the summer.â She blurted out.
You cocked your head at her. âYouâre not?â She shook her head.
âIâm transferring with Vaughn.â Your jaw dropped open as you looked at her. After Jeff, she was the one you were the closest too. âPlease donât tell anyone until Iâm gone.â
âYouâre leaving? I canât- but we- youâre leaving?!â She grabbed your hands, giving you a smile.
âY/N, I want to live in the moment! Pierce makes me happy.â
You sighed, trying to hide the way your face wanted to frown. She was right, she had been happier. You pulled her in for a hug, chuckling in her ear. âI hope itâs a catastrophe.â You whispered into her ear as she giggled, and you pulled away.
âWell, I know what you give me as a going away present!â She seemed cheerful and you knew right away this wasnât going to be good. You narrowed your eyes at her, but she just turned you around. Without even trying, your eyes found Jeff leaning on the table. âTell Jeff how you feel.â
Your cheeks heated up as you ducked your head. âAnnie, I canât.â
âCome on Y/N. I see the way you look at him! Donât deny it.â You werenât denying it, but you werenât admitting it. Annie saw your reluctance, and put her hands on your shoulder, giving you a shake. âI just want you to be happy like I am.â You knew she meant well, but telling Jeff the truth just wasnât in the cards for you.
âSo, tell me what you and Vaughn are going to do.â Annieâs spirits lifted as she went on, telling you even more about Vaughn and hacky-sack until Vaughn himself showed up and stole Annie away for the moment. You were alright with it until you turned around, seeing both Slater and Britta fanning over Jeff. It wasnât a sight you expected to see as you tried to walk away but couldnât manage to take that step. You didnât know what came over you but once Jeff caught sight of you, you finally unfroze, seeing Troy walk past you with a giant cookie, munching away.
âWhat is that?â you asked him, seeing him register you were there.
âGiant cookie.â You were going to say more but decided against it, letting him walk away as you snickered, shaking your head. You tried to ignore Jeff for the night, and it mostly worked, even through saying goodbye to Annie. Soon it was time for the nominees to be named and you stood with Shirley, listening to Dean Pelton blabber on. You were honestly starting to get bored but once Brittaâs name was called you perked up, remembering your friend was a nominee. But once Britta walked on stage, you furrowed your brows.
She grabbed the microphone from Pelton. âThis is a huge honor.â Her words seemed to be pointed towards Slater, only managing to make yourself feel worse. Pelton took the microphone from her and ruined her victory speech, telling her he was just naming the girl nominated. You felt bad for her as Pelton carried on.
But then Britta grabbed the microphone again.
She was looking out into the crowd. âJeff Winger, do not get back with Slater.â You ignored the feeling in your stomach as you followed, listening to her words. You figured out she was looking at Jeff not far from you. âI love you.â
You knew you gasped, hoping the action went unnoticed as everyone fell silent. It was unnerving, sitting there with Jeff just not replying to her. He wasnât denying her⌠why was that the only hope you had? Jeff had started towards her to talk and you watched absolutely terrified.
Thatâs when Slater joined, and you knew any chance you truly had was gone at Slaterâs words. âI love you.â
Why couldnât you breathe?
Why, despite how much you wanted, you couldnât manage to take that breath.
âY/N? Are you okay?â You could hear Shirley call your name, but it was faint, almost as if she wasnât saying a thing. âY/N?â
You didnât say anything as you took off, not hearing two distinct voices call after you.
You were outside before you realized, finally able to catch your breath. You were dumb. You were stupid and blind not to be able to see any of the signs! How could you not see the signs you and Jeff would never be! You were-
âY/N?â Your eyes widened as you spun around on your heels, watch a jogging Jeff come to a stop.
âJeff?â You tried to hide the crack in your voice as you cleared your throat. âWhat are you doing out here?â
âYou ran off.â
You didnât think he noticed being caught up in the two beautiful women professing their love for him inside. You needed an excuse. âI had to take a call.â
âYou had to take a call?â Jeff didnât believe you, obviously. In fact, the moment he heard Shirley call out your name amongst the chaos in his brain, his eyes shot to you, hoping youâd make his decision for him. In all honesty, you did. One look at you running out of a dance and he felt like he was in high school again.
âWhat are you doing out here Jeff.â You played with the fabric of your dress, avoiding looking up at him. âI think Britta and Michele are waiting for you back inside.â You knew you were practically pushing him away, but you couldnât help it. You struggled to come to terms with your feelings, feeling it was too high school-y for college, but Britta and Slater were able to do it.
âYou ran out.â He repeated, a small smirk on his face when you looked up to him, feeling your heart stop as he came closer to you. âI choose you Y/N.â
You didnât hear⌠he didnât say⌠wait, what?
âWhat about Britta?â You hadnât known what you were doing. He said he chose you. Why are you denying it?! âOr Slater? I thought-â
âI choose you.â He cut you off. His hand reached out, grabbing you by the waist and pulling you against him. Your lips parted in surprise as you gasped and looking into his eyes. Your eyes closed slowly as Jeff leaned in, his lips hitting yours briefly before pulling back. Your eyes were still closed, terrified you imagined it before you finally opened to see the cocky look on Jeffâs face. The expression however softened at one look into your E/C eyes. Your lips were magnets as they reconnected, and you were drunk off the feeling.
You were kissing Jeff.
Jeff kissed you.
You when you separated this time you didnât wait to look at him, feeling his thumb come up to caress your cheek gently. âIâll always choose you.â
A/N: Did I mean for this to happen? Not one bit. Thank you @faith-quakeâ for getting me addicted to Community. I started watching it yesterday and now im in the middle of season 2, then this came to be last night when I was talking to her. So here you go! Faith howâd I do?đ Also forgive me if people seem OoC, Iâm still learning characters and haven't gotten far into the series.
ALSO THERE IS LIKE NO COMMUNTIY FICS ON TUMBLR, THUS THIS NEEDED TO BE BORN! TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK?

If you have a second to do a headcanon, could you do one with Druig having a massive crush on her and have the reader kinda be like the opposite of him she is a hot head and has thermal manipulation as her power, like she is always cocky and ready for a fight? Thank you!
A/N: I'm sorry if this is awful, I'm not the best at writing hot headed/confident people, but I hope you enjoy!
¡ Okay, we all know the saying, opposites attract
¡ And boy were you and Druig opposites
¡ He kept himself calm and cool-headed
¡ You on the other hand didnât mind stating your thoughts loudly
¡ It was honestly ironic, having heat-manipulation abilities, and being the hot-headed one of the group
¡ Thatâs not to say you were hard to get along with, you could charm the pants off of anyone
¡ Druig was honestly just in awe of you at most times
¡ When he saw you single handedly take down a deviant he had to walk away to sort himself out
¡ You found it entertaining to flirt with Druig
¡ He would normally walk up to you with a line, usually something along the lines of âmy beautiful y/nâ
¡ You would look at him, smile, and respond âmy mesmeric Druigâ
¡ He would instantly become a flustered mess
¡ Of course causing the other eternals to tease him relentlessly

Penelope Featherington
Summary: Based on the song Penelope Featherington from the Bridgerton musical. Itâs basically the reader watching Druig fall in love with Makkari
ANGST
A/N: I wrote this over a couple of days, I feel like the beginning is kind of weird, but I like most of it so đ¤ˇđť I tried to keep it gender neutral
Never as thin
Never as perfect
Never for him
Never deserving of the boy I love
Druig wasnât perfect. Anyone could see that. Hell, you all had your own flaws. But to you, he was perfect. He was beautiful. He was kind. He was smart. He was charming. He was everything you had ever dreamed of.
But he belonged to someone else. His beautiful, beautiful Makkari. She was indeed beautiful. The two of them were perfect together. They both rounded out each otherâs edges. They were always seen chatting and giggling with each other. Anyone could look at them and just know that they had something special.
You treasured the moments you had with him. He was your best friend. He was the one you were closest to in your group. You could always lean on him when you needed to, and the same went for him. You thought you could always count on him to be there for you.
While becoming closer to Makkari, you could feel him start to pull away. He was spending less and less time with you, and more and more time with her. How could you blame him though? They complimented each other perfectly.
Never the star
Always an asteroid
Delicate heart
Forever the last choice of the one I want
It hurt seeing him with Makkari. Seeing him love someone else felt like it broke a small piece of heart every day.
You would watch as he placed his leather jacket on her shoulders. The same one he would give to you if he thought you looked cold. She would look up at him and smile. He would look back at her and give her his signature smirk.
As much as it hurt, it didnât surprise you that Druig had fallen for Makkari. She was literally perfect. She was constantly looking to learn new things about the world. She cared for the humans just like Druig did.
She was the center of his universe, so what did that make you? Some one he knew in passing? Someone that maybe wouldâve had a chance with him if youâd spoken up sooner?
No, thatâs not possible. She was his sun, and you were just a shooting star. Something fleeting. Something that only lasted a short while, before a new day came, and you were no longer on the forefront of his mind.
So I keep it all in
Itâs like Iâm invisible in my own skin
Of course it hurt you, but you wanted Druig to be happy. As long as he was happy, you could be happy for him.
So the only reasonable thing to do would be to further separate yourself from him. You could leave him be with Makkari, and not interfere with his relationship.
Instead of spending time with him, you would choose to spend time with Kingo or Sprite. You would join Sersi in exploring the places you visited instead of staying with Druig on the Domo.
You would keep your pain locked in a box inside your chest. Acting on your feelings, or even telling anyone, anyone at all, would be detrimental.
Separating yourself from him as soon as possible would just make things easier. At least this way you wouldnât have to keep watching him be happy with someone that wasnât you.
Give up on the fictional fairytale end

Druig has a crush Headcanons
Druig x eternal!reader
The reader has powers to help plants grow, theyâre really good with nature in general.
I might write this as an actual story sometime.
Author's Note: Okay guys, it's happened. I've watched Eternals and have become obsessed with these two. I might write about Mikkari as well sometime in the future. This takes place prior to the events at the end of the movie.
⢠Okay so we all know that Druig doesnât like to show his emotions in front of the others
â˘But you know if heâs alone with you he will absolutely become softer
â˘While with the other Eternals heâll shamelessly flirt with you
â˘He stands close to you, his leather jacket brushing against your arm
â˘Kingo and Phastos hate it
â˘Sersi thinks itâs adorable
â˘Heâll lean close to you and whisper sarcastic remarks in your ear
â˘âDo you think I can make Ikaris end this meeting early?â
â˘You turn to see him smirking at you and playfully hit his arm
â˘Heâll do anything to try to get you to blush
â˘Just knowing that it was him that made you do that really does something to him
â˘When the group splits Druig asks you to go with him
â˘He holds his hand out and open for yours
â˘You slip your hand in his, because honestly you would follow him anywhere
â˘Living in the Amazon with Druig is nice
â˘Thereâs days where you just wander through the forest and help the plant life grow
â˘Sometimes Druig will accompany you
â˘Seeing you really in your element makes his heart beat a little faster
â˘Sometimes heâll reach out for your hand and just hold onto it while you walk
â˘The two of you come across a river, and you sit down just to take it in
â˘He sits next to you
â˘The two of you are able to sit in comfortable silence
â˘You look over at him, and he looks so at peace here
â˘He hasnât let go of your hand
⢠âDruig?â

Hands
Druig x gn!eternal!reader
Summary: An extended version of my Druig With A Crush headcanons
The reader has the ability to grow plants, and is essentially really good with nature.
Living for thousands of years with the same group of people may seem tiring to some. But you loved your little family. The eleven of you were the closest you were going to get to a family, so you may as well make the best of it.
You were close to everyone, but especially Druig. He was your best friend. The two of you clicked very easily. Most people found Druig to be off-putting. He was constantly making sarcastic remarks about the others, and didnât seem to enjoy spending too much time with the others.
He did spend his free time with you though. The two of you could be found in a corner, just chatting and laughing.
Heâd lean in while talking to you, and raise his hand to move a piece of hair away from your face.
âOh no. Please no.â Kingo would say, watching you two. This only caused you to laugh, and Druig to send a glare in Kingoâs direction.
The two of you were connected at the hip. Both standing next to each other at Eternalâs meetings.
It was kind of boring listening to Ikaris drone on. You could almost feel yourself beginning to fall asleep while standing there. You felt a nudge on your shoulder. You turned to see Druig watching Ikaris.
He leaned down to your ear. âDo you think I could get him to cut the meeting short?â
You put your hand over your mouth, trying to hide your giggle. Druig sent you a smirk.
âDruig, do you have something to say?â Ikaris asked. God, Ikaris was awful sometimes.
âI was just wondering how long you were planning on keeping us here. We may be Eternal, but some of us do have better things to do than listen to you.â
You subtly reached behind Druig and softly tugged on the back of his jacket. A small sign to not go too far.
He sighed. âSorry, oh great one, Iâll be quiet.â
After the meeting everyone went their separate ways for the day.
âWhy are the two of you constantly at each other?â you asked Druig.
He shrugged his shoulders. âHe thinks too much of himself. Someoneâs gotta keep him humble.â
You rolled your eyes at him, but couldnât stop the smile from spreading on your face.
There may have been some tension in your group, but they were still your family, still your home. You were safe with them. You were safe as long as you had someone you could always go to if you needed comfort.
It took longer for you to realize your feelings for Druig than it did for everyone else to see how you felt. The world was constantly changing around you, but he was always there. As long as he was your constant, everything would be alright.
And everything was alright. Until it wasnât anymore.
The humans were fighting. They always seemed to be fighting nowadays. It took a toll on your little family.
Some wanted to help the humans, others said it wasnât your place to interfere.
But what was the point of fighting deviants if the humans were just going to kill each other anyway?
You stood at the temple, overlooking the small town. There were fires, lots of fighting, and some already dead on the ground. A small child caught your eye. You stepped out of the temple. Druig reached out for your wrist, wanting to keep you close to him, but you were already gone. You walked out to the child. He looked up at you with tears in his eyes.
You kneeled down next to him, and reached your hand up to brush his hair out of his face. You placed your hand on the ground, and willed flowers to grow. You picked one, and handed it to him.
