In 2019 I actually started on this comic book version of Leia (after seeing a few other cosplayers make it. Cause it’s neat!) I didn’t finish it then and added more to my Bespin Leia running costume instead. This year I intended to make a more legit version of Bespin Leia but knew I didn’t have time to do it so finished this one! (full circle? Haha)

So I actually made my sister the classic look like 9 years ago? I thought it was way too heavy so this year I decided to take out the lining to make it more comfortable. Thankfully it worked and the fabric was thick enough to not be totally see through ~

I think this is like the 4th time I’ve made a Leia belt? I hope the glue doesn’t ruin these like it’s ruined the last few xD And thanks to Stev for 3D printing the doodads for me :) oh! And I managed to alter boots to fit my annoyingly wide calves, haazaaa (on $15 boots, more haazaaa)

Since I was a little girl, I’ve dreamed of seeing Leia wield a lightsaber on the big screen. At the Hollywood premiere of The Rise of Skywalker, that dream came true. Carrie was, and remains, an inspiration. I admired her openness about her mental health challenges when I was teenager and could barely bring myself to talk about my depression with my closest friends. She fought the stigma of mental illness for all of us. I’ve been in and out of the hospital (currently in) over the past month for what the doctors’ best guess is an infection in my knee, and Carrie remains that bright spot I think of when I need the strength to get through painful procedures that channel the Death Star interrogation scene. Remarkably, my mental health has remained solid through all of this, despite the frustration of being a medical mystery. I like to think that space mom is looking down on me and keeping my sense of humor intact. Also, when I’m out of the hospital I will resume shipping the 3D printed rank badge kit I designed for this costume, which I will mail for free to folks in the US who make a donation of $10 or more to @aclu_nationwide . I’ll share the printable pdf pattern for the jacket for this costume with anyone who makes a donation of any amount to the ACLU. I can share that file from my hospital bed so there’s no waiting on that one! #shepropchallenge day 17: tackled a new material (first time working with eva, stretch, etc) Figuring out how to slice and 3D print my Jedi Training Leia (file from @do3d_com ) helmet in PLA could definitely count as tackling a new material, but the real hero for this build was the magical substance of bondo ! Bondo is highly toxic so you NEED to have tons of ventilation and use proper ppe. You can see me working with it in many of my IG videos and my heavy duty respirator! Bondo was absolutely essential to smoothing out all those print lines. #shepropchallenge day 5: prop I am most proud of : Leia’s Lightsaber from #theriseofskywalker The second the flashback scene started I knew I needed Leia’s lightsaber. This build was challenging for a number of reasons. I started with the file from Terranoid labs on #Thingiverse. I then learned how to modify 3-D print files using #tinkercad. I hollowed out more of the inside and made a thicker version of the neck so that a blade could slide into it. I modified the insides and the endcap so I could fit a blue LED flashlight inside to light it up. It’s nowhere near as bright as the light source of an actual lightsaber, but it does give a subtle glow. I also printed a version of this on my resin printer, but I didn’t have the settings quite right so it requires a lot more sanding before it’ll all fit together. And I was definitely in a rush on the paint job so it’s not as shiny and metallic as it could have been. But I learned so much making this!
