Nicky and Sonic

This pic was originally posted February 11, 2021 on DA. I'm slightly surprised I never posted this here before because I made posts in the past(and recently for Sonadowtober 2024) that involve Nicky.

Slight warning I ramble a lot & at one point complain about Amy. I'm sorry I just had some stuff to rant about involving the writing.

Here's a sketch I drew of Nicky & Sonic from the manga series for Sonic published by Shogakukan in my style. Nicky in his "N" sweater & some jeans while Sonic is in sports wear & a jacket based off his/Nicky's dad's pilot jacket.(Also has a hairband to keep his bangs out of the way)

I think back in maybe 2017 or 2018(maybe I dunno) I kinda found out about a Sonic the Hedgehog manga were Sonic's name is actually Nicky with Sonic himself being an alter ego/personality that shows up sometimes.

At the time of posting this pic on DA I went to look up things about the manga & learned Sonic is not just Nicky's alter ego but him from 6 years into the future that switches places with him occasionally when needed. At some point I questioned if this was correct(It's mentioned on both the Sonic wiki & TV Tropes) & went to look stuff up which lead to learning the manga ends with Metal Sonic mistaking Nicky for Sonic. Nicky ends up gaining the confidence he needs to be a mix of him & Sonic thanks to Nicky finally fighting his fears & realizes he needs to be brave & stand up for himself instead of let others defend him.

I haven't read it but it seems kinda nice, I don't ship Amy with Sonic(main pair in the manga) partly due to their ages(I guess it works in the manga thanks to them both being 10 years old) & also because of how obsessive she gets. I got nothing against Amy(I use to not like her but I got over it), she's passionate, cares about her friends & doing what it takes to keep up with her friends(especially since most of them can speed) but her obsession with the idea of being Sonic's gf in the past was annoying. Amy seems to be kinda better in this manga but the thing that annoys me is how she seems more interested in Sonic than her own boyfriend after Sonic shows up. Yeah they're the same person but after looking around Tails seems to be the only one that is aware Sonic & Nicky are the same person(Not even Nicky knows cause he forgets what happened when Sonic took control) & it mentions Nicky feels jealous.(Like if she did know he's Sonic couldn't she say something or whatever? Nicky deserves to know. Actually Tails why didn't you say anything?)

Aside from my rambling & rants I think Nicky is adorable, he's nervous & has trouble standing up for himself & his girlfriend but he keeps trying. From what little I know Nicky seems to learn to eventually become brave. He also wants to be like his dad, who is a plane pilot. Nicky also likes the violin even if he isn't good at it. This kid makes me think of Peter Parker a little bit & it's both adorable & admirable cause he might not be brave or good at things but he keeps going & I adore characters like this.(And unfortunately traumatizing them in plots)

Nicky unintentionally sounds like my version of Sonic for my Sonic Underground stuff.(In my stuff thanks to losing his adopted parents & issues from the community he moved into after Chuck took him in Sonic became more nervous/timid & learned over time to regain some confidence/bravery) I find it interesting because I never knew about Nicky until a couple years ago but he seems like a character I'd be obsessed with.

Made a little worse by them having a lot of similarities between Nicky & my Lost Prince SU Sonic.

Both play instruments(Sonic a guitar, Nicky a violin)

Both wear glasses

Both have a sister(Nicky has one sibling named Tania. Sonic has two bio siblings, Sonia & Manic then also two adopted siblings, Cream & later on Tails)

Both are timid & over time learn to overcome their problems

Both wear red(Sonic is in a red shirt & later a red zip up hoodie, Nicky is sometimes depicted in a red t-shirt with "N" on it & usually depicted in some art & in a lot of fanart having a red sweater/turtle neck sweater with a "N" on it)

Needless to say I unintentionally made my own version of Nicky without knowing it until learning about him in recen years. My version of Sonic is Nicky if he had trauma & tried to hide behind a "mask" based on his brother(Manic's) personality that later on thanks to amnesia he forgot where it came from over time.

In conclusion Nicky has a special spot in my heart & I seem to enjoy trying to find ways to put him into plot ideas.(Which includes an idea I need to work on)

So when my Andrew crush was revived, I realized how little of his filmography I’ve actually seen… or even heard of? Would I rewatch? 👍 (I already have lol)

Never Let Me Go (2010)

Aesthetic: Shaggy hair to shaved head

Plays: Tommy D., a young man living in a wild dystopian England. 

Love story?: More like love triangle! 

👎 The characters are kids at first, so Andrew isn’t in it the whole time.

Would I rewatch? 👍 (and I'm currently reading the book because I found the movie so interesting!)

Lions for Lambs (2007)

First feature film!

Aesthetic: Cute enough frat boy in a hideous shirt.

Plays: Todd Hayes, a privileged, disaffected yet apparently promising college student.

Love story?: No

👍 Despite the ridiculously famous names in the cast, Andrew has one of the leading roles!

Would I rewatch? 🤔 Maybe? It’s not great, but Andrew does manage to make Todd kind of interesting. (Or at least not totally one-note.)

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

Aesthetic: 1940s country bumpkin to blood-covered army medic

Plays: Desmond Doss, a “conscientious cooperator” in WWII.

Love story?: Yes and it’s cute 

⚠️ Violence (In a war movie?! What are the odds!)

Would I rewatch? 🤔 Only the beginning (pre-war) because I could not handle Andrew in peril. (And I really liked The Pacific, so I did not expect to be so freaked out!)

Breathe (2017)

Aesthetic: ‘50s sportsman/adventurer/“tea broker”

Plays: Robin Cavendish, who lived for decades on a respirator after contracting polio (then a death sentence)

Love story?: Yes, and it’s lovely and inspiring and all the things. 🥹(I’m not entirely sure why they are so in love, because the movie really speeds through everything pre-polio, but Andrew and Claire Foy do sell it.)

⚠️ Full disclosure, I did cry at this one.

Would I rewatch? 👍

Weird with a side of conspiracy theory/mystery

Red Riding: The Year of Our Lord 1974 (2009)

Character: Eddie, a young reporter who uncovers shady goings-on.

Love story?: Kind of?

Under the Silver Lake (2018)

Love story?: Ehhh… kind of, I guess? Not formally, though.

Would I rewatch? 👍 and this is not my type of movie at all. For as weird as it is, it's also... fun?

Aesthetic: Clean-cut, sometimes bespectacled, lots of cozy sweaters 

Plays: Tobias, a sensitive and nerdy Weetabix salesman going through some major life upheaval.

Love story?: Yes, the movie revolves around it.

Would I rewatch? 🤔 When I first saw it, hard no. (With these actors, my expectations were high. And the movie did not convince me that Almut and Tobias were actually a perfect match. 🙈) But I did love Tobias, so I would watch again for him. 👍

Charmies are saying he wore the TIFF jacket for Armie? This is so insulting, to Timmy and to Haider. Haider took a chance on Timmy when Timmy was a nobody, in early 2017, for his first CMBYN red carpet appearances, by landing him some of his outfits. Then Timmy (and Tilda) remained loyal to Haider when Haider lost his brand and had no fashion house to design for (https://madame.lefigaro.fr/style/news/haider-ackermann-avec-jean-paul-gaultier-pas-besoin-de-prendre-un-avion-pour-etre-transporte-ailleurs-20230123), by still wearing outfits he designed for them. Haider has helped Timmy making a name for himself as a fashion icon (his Venice outfits have broken the internet all 3 times) and Timmy helped Haider keep his name relevant when he had a difficult moment. On top of that, they have spoken about their artistic and personal relationship and friendship. They call each other big bro and little bro. They hang out regularly even outside events. There is genuine love between these two people and yesterday we saw it on display with Timmy not only attending Haider's show, but also celebrating years of their collaboration and friendship by wearing pants and jacket of two different outfits Haider designed for him in the past, two milestones for Timmy: TIFF 2018, his first red carpet after the CMBYN era was over, and Venice 2021, the biggest red carpet of his career for his first blockbuster as a lead. To reduce all that to Timmy sending a message to Armie and Charmies is incredibly disrespectful. But I guess we shouldn't be surprised: Charmies have shown time and time again they have no respect for anything related to Timmy, his life and his career.

An EXO-L took to Facebook to post a fake “translation” where they “revealed” that HYBE often paid for their groups awards, brand deals, charts, etc.

Well, that’s WHAT the KPOP fans took from it.

Instead of acknowledging that the translation was faked they decided to carry the delusion into other fandoms.

Now almost (yeah pretty much all the fandoms) are attacking BTS. Saying they PAID their way. Somehow they went from being extremely poor at their start to buying their career.

Just gonna casually mention how their album debuted with 34 Sales but that’s Payola for you.

I’m sure in 2010 when they were formed, they knew they would have multiple nominations at the Grammys.

I just know it!

Also. It gets better. According to KPOP fans HYBE is the reason for every groups failure. Especially the Big Three Groups. They’re also to blame for every single song by another group/company that did not chart.

Somehow HYBE even managed to pay G-Idle to block Aespa on the chart? I’m not sure how they profited from that but it happened.

Furthermore, HYBE/BTS are to be blamed for Big Bang, EXO, IKON, and more groups loss of popularity. I saw something about Loona too?

It is because of this that BTS won an award over EXO back in 2017. Yep. Something that happened in 2017 has been brought up in 2024.

I was also informed that HYBE paid for the following: The sinking of the Titanic. Jungkook’s Stuck Potatoes, Jin’s Decision to Cut his Cake with his hand. RM’s inability to Drive. Jhope’s fear of bugs & Snakes. And Taehyung and Jimins dumpling incident. I strongly believe they were involved with Suga bumping his nose with his straw too.

You know the time when he was on Live with his shoulder strap, drinking an americano? He kinda smiled real shy after he bumped his nose and giggled.

But one thing I rarely noticed mentioned was the reason behind all of this.

Min Hee Jin.

And her plot to Casually mention as many groups as possible in hopes of igniting a fanwar to Distract the public as much as possible from the actual allegations against her. The break down wasn’t working good enough, I guess.

“Step on Aespa’s neck.” She Quoted from Bang PD.

That group was literally minding their business before you dragged them in that mess. Not to mention her open hatred for Le SSERAFIM being the first GG to debut. This woman is mentioning every group alongside New Jeans.

I have no problem with these fandoms or their groups. It’s not hard to simply focus on the ones you like. But the way they’re going for BTS, Who has been minding their business and doing their required military service, is uncalled for.

It’s natural to lose popularity. You’re not going to win every single award… if you love the group then support them to your best ability. Don’t worry about who is ahead of you.

It’s just very WEIRD & DELUSIONAL behavior that is making kpop as a whole look very immature.

Also the fact that most of these groups are friends yet their fandoms are fighting like children for everyone on Twitter to see.

Yeah. I name dropped but I’m not dragging any group. I’m simply quoting what I seen on Twitter and giving my opinion. I swear it will benefit you not to get on there. There are some funny tweets tbh. A LOT of viral tweets. But it’s just extremely messy.

It’s back to 2017-2018 for BTS fans on twt. Every fandom on there is lurking. I feel bad for the ones just minding their business.

Lastly. Some bts fans are just focusing on Namjoon’s comeback (as they should.) Pre-ordering for Right Place, Wrong Person is available now!

genuine question, what era is pop punk louis? 2014? 2015?

ooooo the unfolding of pop-punk!louis.

i’ve been waiting for this. the general era of pop-punk!louis began in the fall of 2013 as this look began emerging during the MM promo stint– the “edgier” clothes, the tousled, razor-layered hair, the denim jackets, bleached out attitude etc.

then it bled into 2014 of course with WWAT— following the denim trend with band tees but adding in the tanks and even skinnier, hole-y jeans with tennis shoes/vans (i think the last photo in this set is from 2015 but it does it’s job soz)

2015 is when pop-punk!louis really hit his stride. it peaked during OTRA and the rest of that year, but i would argue it found itself into much of his wardrobe in 2016 as well as it evolved into his style of choice

here we have the 2016 snowballing with a much more casual but stylistic approach to the pop-punk look in his everyday clothes and as it bleeds into 2017

as we find ourselves in 2018, louis started to really find solace in the athleisure trend that was on the rise. he began incorporating it more and more into his fashion, even though he still had the framework of pop-punk flares through parts of his style. it’s also important to note that pop-punk groups were also starting to evolve with their fashion as the tracksuits, baggier hoodies, cut-off denim shorts, and athleisure trend began surfacing for many frontmen of the sound at the time. not saying it’s at all related, but just *shrug.* here’s the 2018-2021 grid.

sooooo to answer your question: pop-punk!louis is ever evolving and i don’t think he’ll ever properly stray from it as he seems to genuinely enjoy the style and attitude of the clothing. even though it isn’t as distinct as it was from 2013-2016 (which i guess gives you an answer for a more bold appearance), it doesn’t mean there aren’t still specks of it in the choices he makes now! so the pop-punk!louis era still lives even if it can be subtle from time to time x

This definitely seems like the most...forced? of the memes videos. I definitely feel like throughout 2017 was when DNP’s audience seemed to have a bit of a shift (in a good way) and so there just wasn’t as much of this type of humor posted. It’s really more of a year-in-review than anything and he should have just let it be that, maybe. Also, obviously, this is just shortly before Dan stopped posting videos.

Azumi A35C Lite (in 2015 I broke the LG so my brother gave this one in Christmas. I would sometimes “fix” the LG so I would sometimes switch these two. I was in 9th grade in 2016) 

Sky Platinum 5.0+ (So in maybe March or May of 2017 I broke the Azumi so my dad gave me some LITTLE money and with what I had in savings all I could afford was this one. Not gonna lie, even tho this thing had only like 4GB in space I took a lot of selfies for the first time in my life, I was 15 and my favorite memory is being in my way to school at like 5:50am and listening to Stripped by xtina or Love, Angel, Music, Baby by Gwen) 

Samsung Galaxy J7 (By the end of November 2018 I was about to get graduated and I remember it was picture day. For some reason I put my phone on the back pocket of my jeans instead of the front, I sat down really hard and cracked the whole screen, I was lucky enough to transfer all my picture to my computer a couple of days before it completely stopped working. Now, in December I guess maybe 5th, I was celebrating with my class because school was over, and my best friend gave me this phone)

iPhone 5 (In that same December 2018, another friend gave me her old phone and I would again switch between these two, even in 2019 when I started college)

iPhone SE (It was May 2019, I was already 4 months in college, the iPhone 5 stopped working, and the Samsung was barely working anymore, so my older brother again saved the day by buying me this phone, which I still use to this day)

Not gonna lie, all the pictures I ever took have awful quality as you can tell I never get the latest release of anything Lol. I think hopefully in 2022 Ill get another phone, maybe the iPhone 8? idk

Sorry, I don’t really trust people who say they just want to talk.  Or want to make records of me.  Keeping that kinda record doesn’t ever lead to anything good, just ask one of my school teachers.  And interviews really aren’t the thing for one of my best friends.

ARMES: i promise, this is not much more than census collecting.  so, can you tell me your name and where you are from?

Dean Thomas, and London.  But I’m not getting more specific than that with you.

ARMES: london will do. what is the last thing you remember from your home?

I mean, that’s kinda a complicated answer.  I remember leaving it, heading out around the country to try to clear my head.  Then ending up here.

ARMES: clear your head from what?

That isn’t your business, ma’am.

ARMES: Of course. Now, we have a history of memory loss in town.  do you feel as though you have any blanks in your memories?

Sometimes I wish, but my past makes me.  Defines me.

ARMES: how long have you been in town?

I think you know that with all the pestering you’ve done to get me here, but over a year now.

ARMES: and are you feeling settled?  have you found a job?

Truthfully?  I’m feeling more settled than I have since I was eighteen or ninety.  I’ve been travelling for about four years?  And this feels better than a lot of places.  I’ve been working as a freelance artist and helping out at the after school art program.

ARMES: what, do you think, was the strangest thing you saw before arriving in this town?

A firework that tried to eat an evil bitch of a professor, and trust me when I say my mum made sure I only use that word if absolutely necessary.

ARMES: do you believe in the supernatural or mythical?

yeah.  You can say that.

ARMES: what kind of traits would your friends or family give you?

Artistic, a bit athletic.  Aaliyah would say I’m a pain in her ass, but lovingly.  Flighty.  Scared.

Dean Thomas is a smaller character from the beloved Harry Potter series.  He is one of the titular character’s roommates, and vague friends, though he does not appear often throughout the series.  He is known to be the artistic muggleborn wizard who briefly dated Ginny Weasley, sister of the titular character’s best friend.   However, many of the fans believed him and his other roommate, Seamus Finnigan, to be in love.  It does appear that Mx. Finnigan is important to him.

As well, it seems from what I’ve gathered that the Dean Thomas who has shown up here has been running from the aftermath of the war.  Perhaps the mental tolls of children fighting became too much.  Perhaps he wants to leave the Wizarding World all together.  I do not know, but we should keep an eye on it.

Truth be told, despite the fact that you were neighbors and your parents were quite close with his, you didn’t know much about Johnny in the years you spent growing up in the suburbs of Chicago. Sure, you caught glimpses of him from your bedroom practicing whatever song or dance routine he felt like he needed to improve on. More often than not, you’d find yourself laughing as he accidentally bumped into a shelf or slip and fall over on the floor. And he would be lying if he said he hadn’t taken a peek out his window to watch you running lines, a script in you hand as you paced around the room, a smile creeping on his face as he watches you shake your head every time you forget a line. In a way, you both formed some sort of a relationship as you silently cheered the other on in whatever endeavor you put your minds to.

He wanted you to succeed just as much as you wanted him to succeed. 

But when he moved to Korea to pursue a career as an idol, and you to LA for acting, there were little to no opportunities to actually begin a proper conversation. 

It wasn’t until in December of 2017, when both of your parents decided to have a joint Christmas dinner in celebration of both their children coming home for the holidays for the first time in years. They thought it was time for you two to meet, having settled in your respective career paths. Maybe they also wanted to see how the two of you would get along, but they would never admit it even if you ask. 

“I don’t think we’ve ever formally met.” He told you once he entered your parents’ house and offering a hand for you to shake, “I’m Johnny.”

“Yn.” You replied, taking his hand in yours, “And, trust me, I know exactly who you are.”

He raised an eyebrow at your statement as he let go of your hand, you shivered at the immediate loss of contact, your hand immediately growing colder at the absence of his. 

“NCT?” You asked tentatively, testing the waters of what could possibly be an exciting new friendship.  

“Ah yeah,” he sheepishly smiled, reaching a hand to scratch the back of his neck, “I guess there’s no use in pretending I don’t know who you are either.”

It was now your turn to raise an eyebrow at him, crossing your arms in front of your chest, “Hmmm?”

“I’ve seen pretty much every show you’ve ever been on.” Johnny clarified, but his tone suggested a bit of embarrassment on his part, “The other members don’t believe me when I tell them I practically grew up next to you.”

“I guess I could say the same.” You replied with a shrug, but you offered him a reassuring smile “Nobody really believes me when I tell them a Kpop star used to be my neighbor.” 

“Perhaps we need better friends then.” He joked, but your gaze was fixated on the way the curve of his lips moved with each word that left his mouth. Johnny had always been attractive, whether it be through your bedroom window or your computer screen. But now here he stood, in front of you, bare faced in black jeans and a gray sweatshirt and somehow he had never looked more alluring. 

Johnny noticed you watching him, but he never called you out on it. Maybe because he was too busy thinking about how soft your hand was when he shook it, imagining how it must feel running over his skin. Or how your hair seemed fall perfectly, framing your face in a way that was enticing him for reasons he couldn’t exactly figure out. 

“Care for a drink?” You asked, breaking the brief period of tense silence that had fallen between the two of you, leading him to the makeshift bar your parents had near the kitchen. 

He smirked, placing his hands inside the pockets of his jeans, “I thought you’d never ask.”

And maybe it was because of both of your parents deciding to turn in early and the three bottles of wine that was shared between the two of you that had you pinned against the wall of your childhood bedroom, quietly giggling into his lips as he went in for another kiss. He drunkenly mumbled words that you couldn’t quite understand, but he was telling you to keep quiet. You knew you should have stopped him the second planted his lips onto yours, and he knew he should’ve pulled away when you started taking off his shirt. Maybe then you wouldn’t have woken uncomfortably cuddled up on your twin-sized bed and sneaking him out of the house before your parents could wake up. 

But both of you enjoyed the way your bodies seemed to be made just for the other too much to stop, and thus, a tradition of sorts was formed. 

2018. 

One particular night the following year had you driving around the city, Johnny had one hand on the steering wheel while the other held yours, his thumb rubbing comforting circles on the back of your hand. But it did everything but comfort you or himself. Since the previous year, you and Johnny grew much closer than either have you had anticipated. You thought it would all end after that first night or maybe when you flew back to LA, and him back to Seoul. But it had been seemingly impossible to move away from whatever relationship that began to form, as both of you sacrificed nights of well warranted sleep to call or text the other, soon enough both of you were in too deep to easily get out. 

“Penny for your thoughts?” You asked, taking note of how the streetlights perfectly illuminated his face. He had been unusually quiet and you were growing tired of the Christmas songs that had been blasting on every radio station for the past few hours. 

“It’s nothing.” He sighed as he turned to an unfamiliar street, you knew better than to believe that it was truly nothing. But you also knew him well enough to not to push it. 

“Where are we going then?”

Johnny replied with a shrug, continuing down the foreign path, he knew neither of you had been to this particular part of town but at that point he’d do anything to even remotely extend the time you spent together. 

“And if we get lost?” You asked, your voice almost challenging him to turn back, but he didn’t give in. 

“Then we get lost.” He replied without missing a single beat, the corners of his mouth twitching upwards to form a smile, “You know, the road not taken tend to be the most exciting.”

“Oh wow,” You let out a laugh, and Johnny feels his heart skip the slightest of beats, “and where did that immensely profound quote come from?”

“My brilliant mind.” He grinned, briefly turning to face you. 

Johnny wished he had a camera to capture the absolute spectacle that was you. How you stared out the window, at the unfamiliar road, eyes alive with a certain curiosity. Your finger drawing little stars on the car window, pouting when it doesn’t quite look the way you wanted it to. It was at that moment he knew, you were all he wanted. 

“What are we?” He asked, causing you to jump a little in your seat, Johnny had never brought up the nature of your relationship before. 

“Friends?” You said, at an attempt to offer him an answer, but even you sounded unsure at your response which made Johnny grow hopeful. 

“Yn, friends don’t kiss.” Johnny responded, grateful that he had to keep his eyes on the road. He didn’t need you seeing right through his pretend confidence, “They sure as hell don’t sleep together”

“Sure, they do.” You joked in an attempt to lighten the mood, maybe even change the topic to something—anything— else, “I do it all the time.”

“Well, acting is different.” He let out a scoff, annoyed at the thought of you not taking the conversation seriously,  “You know what I meant.”

“I like where we are now. It’s easy.” You explained, wanting to make him understand where you were coming from, “Relationships are messy, given the industries we are in. There’s no pressure with this. With you and me.”

“But what if I wanted something more—”

“It’s never going to work.” You cut him off before he could even make his case, before he could ask you to be his. 

“Now, why do you say that?” There was a slight tremble in his voice, and you had never heard him sound so nervous, scared even. The feeling of guilt slowly crept up your system, but you shook it away before it even had the chance to fully settle in. 

“Time, distance, to begin with. Not to mention both of our very busy careers.” 

“Then I guess this is good enough for me.”

For now, he added in his head, determined to make you see otherwise. 

You smiled at him, glad to have the conversation over with and thinking that this would be the last time you’ll ever speak about it. 

2019.

Johnny wanted to prove you wrong, show you that both of you could in fact make it work. You just needed to try. Which came with more calls and texts than normal as you got to know each other more than you already did, flowers sent to you on your birthday, several little gifts every now and then, and even slowly introducing you to the other members of NCT. His efforts did not go unnoticed, but it definitely left you more confused. 

When both of you went home for the holidays that particular year, you knew something had changed. Johnny was more reserved than usual, and you would usually have to be the one to initiate sleeping together. 

“Don’t you ever get tired of doing this?” He asked, turning to face you, as you lied side-by-side on his childhood bed. 

“Doing what?” You asked, feigning confusion, preparing yourself for the inevitable conversation you had been dreading for the past few months.

“Don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about.” His voice was calm, but it chilled you to the core. 

“What do you want me to say, Johnny?” You snapped, the tone in your voice letting him know how exasperated you were as you shut your eyes, “That I like you? That I want to be with you?”

“Don’t you?”

You let out a sigh, still keeping your eyes shut. You didn’t want to look at him, he’d know if you were lying. You didn’t know if you had it in you to lie. Instead, you focused on the sound of his breathing, steady and almost reassuring. You imagined the rise and fall of his bare chest, covered by the thick white blanket. 

Johnny knew to drop the subject when you didn’t even make an attempt to answer his question, he probably didn’t want to know the answer anyways. But Johnny knew he loved you, and part of him knew you loved him back. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t have let this little charade go on for as long as it did. You just needed time. And he was more than willing to give it to you. 

“A year.”

Your eyes opened at his words, your head turned to face him,  “What?”

“I’m giving you a year.”

You didn’t have to ask again. You knew exactly what he meant, what he wanted. He wanted an answer. 

“Is this an ultimatum?”

He takes your hands in his, “It’s me letting you know that I’m serious about wanting to be with you.”

“Johnny—”

He kisses the side of your head before you could even finish your sentence, an action so tender that it caused you to forget every single coherent thought of protest. 

“Hey, you don’t have to answer me now. Just think about it. Please?”

“I will.” 

And with those two words, you stood and gathered your clothes off the floor and put them back on. He gave you a small nod as you turned to leave his room, going back into the freezing cold and leaving the warmest bed you had ever known. 

2020.

Neither of you could come home to Chicago that year. 

And so you both had to settle for a reunion through a screen. You wished that circumstances were different, but at the same time you were grateful that you didn’t have to give him an answer in person. Mainly because you didn’t have one. 

When his face appeared on your computer screen, you couldn’t help the ache that crept up in your chest at the sight of him. 

“Hey, yn.” He greeted with a smile.

You missed him.

After the exchange of pleasantries and a bit of small talk on both ends, Johnny wasted no time in getting to the purpose of your call, “I believe you owe me something.” 

“Johnny—“

“Before you say anything, I want you to know that for me, it’s always been you. After all this time, even with all the distance between us.”

Johnny moved his face closer to the camera, as if that would somehow help his point come across more genuinely. You had to stop your hand from reaching out to try and wipe the single tear that fell on his cheek.

“This is the last time I’m going to ask.” He said, trying to keep his voice from faltering too much, “After this, I won’t try to push it anymore. But I want you to tell me the truth. Don’t you wish—“

“It’s not going to work.”

“We haven’t even tried, Yn.” It almost sounded like he was pleading, begging you to give him and the two of you a chance. He wasn’t there with you in person, but he didn’t have to be for you to feel the sincerity in his words.

“I’m scared.” You whispered, finally choosing to truly let him in for the very first time since you met, “What if it doesn’t work out? I want you in my life. I don’t want to lose you.”

“You’re not going to.”

Johnny said it with such conviction, such confidence, that you felt like you had no choice but to believe him. Your eyes studied his face, looking for any sign of wariness or doubt. Only to find none. You could only find hopefulness, and maybe even love. With one final review of his features, you had made your decision. 

“Okay.”

“Okay, what?” He asked, just to make sure, but he made no attempt in holding back the grin that slowly spread across his face. The sight of which made your heart flutter. 

“We’ll try. I want to be with you.”

You let out a breath that you didn’t you had been holding as the final word left your lips. It felt like a weight had been lifted off your shoulders, the floodgates in your eyes releasing the tears it had been holding onto for months now. Nervousness still coursed through your veins, but it was mixed with a different kind of emotion: excitement. 

“You’re smiling, but you’re also crying. I’m not sure if I should be concerned.” Johnny joked, the crinkles in eyes becoming much more apparent as he stared at your face through the screen. 

“I’m still scared,” You confessed, “but I’m excited.”

Johnny couldn’t help but chuckle at your confession, waiting for you to wipe your tears away before he continued speaking, 

“Well, Yn, didn’t I tell you the road not taken would be the most exciting? Trust me, it’s looking really good now.”

Anglo-Italian Now Offering Made To Order Online

I’m excited to see Anglo-Italian now offers made to order tailoring online.

I love just about everything about the shop, co-founded by Jake Grantham and Alex Pirounis. It’s one of those shops whose point of view is so good, and executed so well, that you almost take it for granted. Like “of course this exists.” The clothing is great from top to bottom, from the perfectly tapered jeans (now available in ecru!) to the Neapolitan tailored jackets cut in cloths designed in-house. I reviewed their tailored jackets in 2018, so take a look at that if you haven’t yet.

Alex told me in 2017 when I visited them in London that their tailoring focus was primarily on made to measure, with small ready to wear collections each season. Since then, they’ve built out their ready to wear business to include t-shirts, a curated selection of shoes (made by Crockett & Jones), and those exclusive house cloths (which they sell by the meter, so you can have any tailor in the world make something from it if you want).

A couple years ago I was searching for a perfect double breasted navy blazer for summer, and messaged Jake about doing a made to order jacket since their stock size 52 fit me really well. One issue that kept me from doing so at the time was being able to look at and decide on a fabric remotely. Now, that’s basically a non-issue (unless you’re looking for something outside their range of fabrics). You’ll never replace being able to feel a cloth in-hand, but having high quality photos of swatches with great lighting is the next best thing (and is honestly pretty rare in the world of fabric swatches). And since the cloths available are all of their own design and fabrication, you can trust none of them are bad. (In contrast, open those books from the big fabric mills, and what percentage make you question the taste of the designer?).

They promise a 5-week lead time, which is extremely reasonable. That may stretch a little longer in the future as the world restarts and their Italian workshop gets busier, if I were to guess. The only downside for me, as an American, is the Pound-to-Dollar conversion combined with import duties. But I always have to remind myself: if they were based in the U.S., those duties would simply be included in the price.

for those of you who might like to know the story, I figured I'd post it both for myself and whoever else, but I'll tag it personal and other such so you don't have to see it if it's triggering/you just don't care to.

so the long and short of it is that from about age 9 up I was always overweight, and I guess from like age 14 or so it was more noticeable, although I was constantly harangued at the pediatrician about it before I was even that chubby. From 13-19 I wore size 16 jeans, and consistently if I ever changed sizes it was just to a larger size. Even before I was genuinely pretty overweight though I always felt super overweight compared to other people, hated how I looked but desperately wanted to be beautiful at the same time, the usual boring stuff.

In the summer of 2017 I woke up one morning nauseated for no apparent reason, and it didn't stop for a long time. I believe now this was my first experience with IBS, although I've never been diagnosed despite my doctor shuffling me from test to test. I had tried to eat healthier in spring of that year but gained weight instead of lost it. But in the month of June I lost 10 pounds without trying, and was at first congratulated before they realized I had nothing to do with it. 3 or 4 tests that didn't give any answers followed, and I figured I'd just have to live with it because I always do.

What really made the difference for me was when I took a job as barn help at a stable, because I was working nonstop physical tasks for 7 hours a day for 10 months. Even with that, I think it took a good six months before i started noticing my size changing. Partly because I just couldn't believe it. Even after it was solidified that my old clothes were falling off me, I still by reflex went for bigger stuff because I had no sense of my own size whatsoever. I'd automatically go to the XL section of Goodwill only to realize everything there would be too big.

I quit that job in fall of 2018 and didn't get another job until summer of 2019, and somehow during that time I didn't gain weight, despite not changing my diet or portion sizing, and losing my activity level. Working at a sealant factory, the lines I wound up on were also fairly physically demanding, which I enjoyed, and my weight stayed around 150 for the first 8 months I was there.

Then the pandemic happened, and I was moved to an automatic line for a month or so. Despite feeling like I was working harder there, I had to stand still longer, and between that, and another automatic I was switched to, I gained a little bit. I'd say maybe 5-10ish pounds. That was where I was at when I got married in September and quit my job.

From September to maybe January, I gained back all of it and then some. If my scale is right, which God only knows, I've been stuck at like 195 pounds, despite trying keto out of desperation and having a multiple week migraine, and despite restricting calories and exercising for the past 3 months. I know it's silly to expect to lose it all in that short a time, but I don't expect that. I would just like to see progress, but I'm not. And I can't help but feel like the entire thing was a one-time only thing. I never lost weight before of my own volition or attempt, despite everyone nagging me. I wish I could, but I don't know how, because nothing I've tried works.

This on top of other things has wreaked havoc on my mental health. I guess maybe I'd hoped I'd be able to keep the weight off forever once it was gone, but I didn't, and I blame myself for it whether it was actually my fault or not. And I felt better about myself when I was thinner, and people treated me better. It's pretty effed up that I only tolerate myself if certain things are currently present, but that's how my psyche works for the moment and I haven't had any luck trying to change it.

Now I'm just desperately trying to figure out how to lose weight again and wishing I hadn't ever been thin in the first place because now it just torments me. It's been exhausting and on top of that I've been dealing with what I suspect is depression, and I have no idea what to do. I know if I go to my doctor I'll just be dismissed.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Of course I do, it would be rude of me to moan on the lack of comments if I did not. Anyway, people take time to read and comment, I can take time to reply. (except if people are downright rude, of course)

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? Not necessarily angsty but quite sad is the retirement!lock aforementioned. 

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? I mostly write drabbles but I think I do try to make my characters fairly happy. 

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you've written? I do! I wrote a fic for a Secret Santa back in 2019 in which many characters get to meet each other including, Remus Lupin, Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr, Sirius Black, Isidore Beautrelet and Arsène Lupin.

Have you ever received hate on a fic? Some not very kind words in my early days, but it’s been ages. (Yes, I know I have not given them back the “minutes of their existence they lost reading my fic”.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do! Much less than I used to, but mlm and wlw, very occasionally some het thingie but that would be clumsy as hell...

Have you ever had a fic stolen? No and I hope it would never be the case.

Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yep! A whole lotta lot but very few got published in the end. Now and then I co-write a drabble collection with admamu, Charlism, its ceremonies, its followers, in French and I translate it in English.

What's your all-time favourite ship? Probably Cherik, I think.

What's a WIP you want to finish but don't think you ever will? Most of the projects that are not drabbles but I would think The Man at the Museum and Graymalkin College ou les Errements de Charles F. Xavier. 

What are your writing strengths? Strengths? Erm... I’m quite good at writing ‘true’ 100-word drabbles.  

What are your writing weaknesses? Just like you, Step, I can’t focus on long stuff. I would start something just for the pleasure of writing something or some scene but would not get the plot forward. My sentences are way too intricated but I would consider it more a choice than a weakness. 

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I love it! I love languages, I love the genuineness of it. Just like knowing the brand of tea characters drink or the tiny details that give a feeling of the country they live in or their culture is very precious and dear to me.

What was the first fandom you wrote for? Harry Potter, just after I finished the seventh book, back in 2007.

What's your favourite fic you've written? Charlism, its ceremonies, its followers all the way.

Cuddles: Since you two are querelles- that means bickering- I’ll knock. (knocks on the door)

Bella: (in human form. answers the door. She is in her pjs) Hey, guys. Glad you came. Emma is still here. (lets them in)

Sport: (walks in) Sup.

Toy Cutie: (walks in) Hey, girl.
