Judas Iscariot, “Superstar” Costume ( David Jakobs 2016-17, John Vooijs 2017-18) Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz Jesus Christ Superstar Production (2/2)

Costume Notes: This “Superstar” costume seems inspired from Elvis. Both Vooijs and Jakobs have a glittery pink sequins headband that matches his costumes trim. It’s hard to tell but like Vooijs, Jakobs is not wearing a shirt under the Elvis suit (the lighting in the second image just makes it appear he has a shirt on). Vooijs seems to be wearing pale coloured dress shoes though it is hard to tell what Jakobs has on though I assume it is the same type of shoe. The sleeves and the ends of the pants are made wider through an insert triangular shiny pink panel. There is a pink sequin trim from his shoulder seam down his sleeve and to border the pink triangular panels of the sleeve. The pant legs also have the same trim down the outer side of the leg and it goes down to border the triangular pink panel of the bell bottom as well. There is also trim on the collar.

Judas Iscariot, “Heaven On Their Minds”-”Judas’ Death” Costume (David Jakobs 2016-17, John Vooijs 2017-18) Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz Jesus Christ Superstar Production (1/2)

Costume Notes: The difference in costume between the two versions is that Vooijs shoes are black boots but the type that are sleek ankle high with no lacing or tongue. On the other hand, Jakobs has more of a traditional style boot with laces and a tongue. I don’t know if Vooijs wears a belt, but Jakobs tends to have the front of his shirt either tucked or stuck on the belt top, thus showing the belt. The jacket appears to have a detachable hood piece. There are quite a few pics of Jakobs without which may just be an error or just for promo reasons. One final comment is in the second-row right pic you’ll see Jakobs wearing a scarf but that is a promo shot so I do not believe he wears it in the show. In the second row left image he is wearing a long coat over his costume during bows but I have no idea when he wears it in the show, pretty sure it’s just a costume piece worn at the very start (like during the overture everyone has an outdoor long jacket) that is then removed (that photo is from joachim schlosser).

Production Notes: The theatre did this production twice once from 2016-17 with Jakobs as Judas (first row right, 2nd row center+left and last photo) and the second time in 2017-18 with Vooijs as Judas. When it comes to the main cast I know Jesus, Pontius Pilate Annas and Caiaphas stayed the same, I don’t know about the disciples though (Mary M. did change). Based on a review, due to this being a modern take they used phones throughout the show so during the Last Supper scene they all pose like the Leonardo da Vinci work for a photo (this is an in-show scene of them posing for a photo if that makes sense)
