Ask a Jiang Cheng anti where JC has ever canonically mistreated Jiang YanLi or any woman in general in the books and they'll provide nothing.
Ask a JC fan to provide evidence of JC being a doting, caring brother who put his sister's needs first and they'll provide a surplus of screenshots and examples.
When will JC antis admit that most of their hatred for the character are merely headcanons?

If Jiang Cheng loved Jiang Yanli enough to hate Wei Wuxian for her death, then he should have loved her enough to honor her final choice - he should have loved her enough to care about her thoughts, her decisions, rather than spit in the face of her sacrifice and lie about it for years afterwards.
You cannot love someone when it is only convenient to your hate.

i did NOT just see a jc anti saying he "pushed jzx and his heartbroken sister together just because he will gain more political power in the process totally ignoring her feelings". nope. absolutely didn't

Canonically speaking, jc' reaction to someone he doesn't like/has strong negative feelings towards, because that person was a jerk to his sister, is to regulate his emotions according to how his sister feels. In a jyl lives au, after wwx's return, canon jc is going to his sister, saying something like: 'while I think we should throw at least a cup of tea at him because he left us you and a-ling like that, it's your choice, jin zixuan was your husband. What are we feeling now, jiejie?'

Do you think about how one of the things that must hurt Jiang Cheng the most is seeing the closeness and love Wei Ying and Lan Zhan have for each other? Of course, he doesn't desire the romantic aspect of it, but he used to be the one Wei Ying went to. The one by Wei Yings side. The one who protected Wei Ying and vice versa. Regardless of whether he's come to recognize that Wei Ying is not at fault for what happened to Yanli, do you think it hurts him to be reminded of a of something he will never have again? Perhaps due to his own stubbornness. Perhaps due to Wei Yings avoidance. Who knows. Do you think it burns him? Twists his insides? To know he will never have the love and devotion Wei Ying used to have for him and perhaps even worse, that he never deserved it in the first place?

My favorite thing in the untamed is how at their core all of the relationship conflicts are about fighting for the right to care about each other

still thinking about this actually and yeah it's insane that jc canonically and onscreen physically and emotionally harms unarmed people and new disciples who are powerless/weaker than him/under his command when he's angry or frustrated to vent his spleen or whatever, like he abuses his power over others NOT infrequently, and people still look at him and go 🥺🥺🥺 'oh how noble...his big suffering heart...he loves so deeply...what a great leader....how badass of him to be a dick to people who he can hurt with impunity' like guys he Just intentionally retraumatized a guy who was attacked by feral dogs as a toddler and would never have fought back, are we seeing the same character. he literally tortures people when he's angry at them

JC, just days after he barely got any credit for running pillar to post to save his brother with barely any rest and succeeding in saving him, had his core melted, and he had all of a week (maybe?) to come to terms with the fact that he didn't have it anymore before WWX gave up his core for him, after which he became a sect leader overnight without the support of his family in the middle of a war which started because his entire sect was decimated, and right when he thinks everything is okay and the war has ended his brother defects and his sister is married into a different sect, his brother in law is killed by his brother, his sister dies for his brother and he's alone again, (except for a child he's now responsible for).
This obviously traumatized him and he acted very negatively towards both WWX and all demonic cultivators. Especially WWX.
But that doesn't erase who he was before all of this, or even during it. He loved his brother and gave up his life for him. He was a boy king who made his sect one of the great sects after it was razed in the war. He raised his nephew while grieving for his family and raised him well, (JL is a bit immature and arrogant, but he's intelligent, righteous, and strong willed).
In this essay I will-

What a plot twist you were. [x]
#Like. The narrator introduces jc to us as the antagonist#Then we got to know him. Not who people think he's. But who he really is#And we saw jc giving wwx a piggyback. Giving him soup. Rescuing him. Putting himself between wwx and any danger (madam yu/wen soldiers)#And even the staged fight. It's yk. Staged#jc wanted to protect wwx at any cost. But wwx wasn't willing to compromise. But jc did#The fight was wwx's idea. Because jc is an enabler (just like jfm and jyl)#jc is ready to bend for his loved ones sake#The point is. Every action jc takes. Is in the name of his loves ones' safety. And surprise. wwx is one of the people jc really cares about#Even after wwx' return. Aside a broken cup. jc isn't doing much to stop wwx or anything. We know that jl was able to free wwx from Zidian#only because jc - Zidian's primary master- wanted it!#And jc fling himself into danger countless times to save wwx even though wwx can't sit still with him for a hot minute#What I wanted to say it's that the jc is presented to us - the mean ungrateful man- is very different from the real jc -#the indulgent uncle who rolls his eyes at his nephew antics. the brother who buries the hatchet for his sister's happiness.#the uncle who kinda wants to help wn to get up from the floor because he was an ass to jc but he helped jl and that's what matters to jc#the sect leader who let two women speak freely their mind in a patriarchy society#People better than me have already said this. shit I can't remember my point lmao#Like. jc is presented as an antagonist but what this man wanted was an apology and an explanation#This post is a mix of a rant I wrote last year (ha) after seeing a bad take. About what I don't remember lmaoo. And me wanting#to make gifs of wzc in this scene. Why does he look so good. It should be illegal. Seriously#jiang cheng#*mgifs

I just am obsessed with any story that’s about people who love each other but cannot do justice to that love because they have a duty to something else first. That there is something else fundamental and demanding that they must choose over love every time. To be forced to choose one irreplaceable thing over another etc etc
#For Jiang Cheng that’s his responsibility to his sect and to their people#and the burnt and fragile remains of their home#who are all counting on him—an orphaned teenager—to protect and lead them#And as much as he might want to throw that all away to be by his brother’s side#or as much as he might want to help wen qing and wen ning#they can never come first. because first he has to keep his people safe. he can’t put them at risk#no matter how much he loves his brother#he’s not powerful enough yet for taking a stand to do anything other than get his sect burned to the ground a second time#and that turns into him standing in the burial mounds near tears as he tells his brother ‘I can’t protect you anymore’#Which is its own bitter irony because you know wwx is thinking that it’s not his little brother’s job to protect him)#(with no idea how much he already has)#meanwhile for wei wuxian his primary duty is to help the wens#because he protected his brother at an unspeakable cost and his brother protected the sect and they’re going to be fine without him#(who only endangers them more by being around them)#which means now Wei Wuxian’s first and most important duty#is to protect this group of people who have absolutely no one else in the world who will stand with them#So even though it breaks his heart to leave his home and family he has to do what is right#It’s why I liked wen qing so much too. she and jiang cheng understood this about each other#while i don’t think jiang cheng and wei wuxian understand this about each other at all#because jc is standing there like when did i and my sister and our clan stop being your most important#and wwx is like I have already given everything I can give to you and I can only make things worse for you. but these people?I can help them#so i have to help them#as you guys can see. im not doing well#anyway watch black sails#the untamed
