Happy Halloween!!! The untamed pretty please?
a continuation of 1 2 3
Nie Huaisang at ten isn't that jarring, even considering the adult version he left behind, because he's pretty much exactly as Jiang Cheng remembers him.
Seeing Nie Mingjue at thirteen as a sullen child instead of the looming specter of his memories takes some adjusting.
Nie Haoyu wouldn't take no for an answer and it hadn't helped that A-Ying had been thrilled at the invitation and immediately started peppering the Nies with question that they'd answered in good humor the whole way back. Nie Haoyu seems delighted with A-Ying, finding him amusing and impressive and complimenting Jiang Cheng several times on raising such an impressive son.
He just glares back but Nie Haoyu's good humor is unaffected. His memory of the clan leader is spotty at best and he's coming to the slow and horrifying realization that it was Nie Huaisang and not Nie Mingjue that got his personality from their father.
Joining a clan is probably good for them, long term, and the Nies are the only other tolerable major clan, not that he'd ever expected to get practically kidnapped by them.
The only problem is that Nie Haoyu is going to be dead in two years time and if he wants A-Ying and the Nie siblings to have some semblance of a normal childhood, he's going to have to. Do something about that.

i see some ppl say that wwx was the one in the wrong for visiting the ancestral hall and bringing in an outsider, bcs that place is reserved for family and wwx has rejected going to lotus pier with jc before
sort of related what do u think jc wanted with wwx when he was planing on bringing him back to lotus pier when he captured him? its been a while but i dont remember the vibe of the scene being that jc wants to torture wwx to death there, the only thing wwx worries is that lotus pier is different and he doesnt wanna go there anymore
Wei Wuxian wasn't wrong for going to the ancestral hall or for bringing Lan Wangji, because the ancestral hall is not an exclusive area reserved only for family. Wei Wuxian even makes this delineation when Jiang Cheng is sneering about Wei Wuxian traveling around Lotus Pier without Jiang Cheng's express approval:
His voice was chilling, “Wei WuXian, you really don’t take yourself as an outsider, do you? You come and leave whenever you want. You take with you whomever you want. Do you perhaps still remember whose sect this is? Who’s the owner?” Doing this, Wei WuXian wanted to keep it away from Jiang Cheng in the first place. Now that he discovered them, he knew they’d definitely be faced with some vicious remarks. He didn’t want to argue, “I didn’t take HanGuang-Jun to the other, more confidential places of Lotus Pier. We only came to greet Uncle Jiang and Madam Yu with a few sticks of incense. We’re finished already and we’ll be leaving now.”
—Chapt. 87: Loyalty, exr
Jiang Cheng is mad about wangxian wandering around Lotus Pier and blows up once they enter the ancestral hall because he is homophobic.
Jiang Cheng, “If you’re leaving, please go as far as possible. Don’t let me see or hear you fooling around in Lotus Pier again.”
—Chapt. 87: Loyalty, exr
Immediately, darkness crawled up [Jiang Cheng's] face, bearing an eerie similarity to how Madam Yu looked when she was angry. His voice was harsh, “Who’s the one insulting my parents in front of their spirits?! Could you two please understand whose sect you’re in? I don’t care if you act so shamelessly outside, but don’t you dare fool around inside our ancestral hall, before my parents’ spirits! After all, they were the ones who brought you up—even I feel ashamed for you!” Wei WuXian never expected such a huge blow to crash down on him. He was both shocked and furious, blurting, “Shut up!” Jiang Cheng pointed outside, “Mess around outside however you want, whether under a tree or on a boat, hugging or otherwise! Get out of my sect, get out of anywhere my eyes can see!” ... Jiang Cheng did indeed go out to find Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi. He chased after them in the direction that the street vendors pointed at. A voice in his heart seemed to tell him to which places Wei WuXian would definitely go. He caught up to them in just a while. Yet, he just so happened to see Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi enveloped in a tight embrace under a tree, unwilling to let go of each other even after so long. ... But hugging like that seemed abnormal no matter what. At least, they didn’t seem like normal friends or brothers. He immediately recalled that Wei WuXian had always stuck to Lan WangJi ever since he came back. Lan WangJi’s attitude toward him was also different from what it was before he was reborn. At once, he was almost certain that the two really were in that kind of relationship. He couldn’t turn around and leave, yet he didn’t want to say a single word to the two, so he continued to hide himself as he followed them. Every single look and movement that passed between them seemed different in his eyes. For a while, the shock, absurdity, and slight disgust that he felt combined to overpower his hatred. It was only after Wei WuXian brought Lan WangJi into the ancestral hall that the long-suppressed hatred was awakened again, devouring his courtesy and rationality.
—Chapt. 88: Loyalty, exr
What Jiang Cheng wanted when he captured and briefly tortured Wei Wuxian with Fairy back in Chapt. 24 is exactly what his complaints are in the ancestral hall: Wei Wuxian is not showing Jiang Cheng the deference he feels he is owed (and is also being too gay with Lan Wangji). In fact, Wei Wuxian not immediately begging for forgiveness but instead snarking back once captured is why Jiang Cheng calls Fairy over to torture him. He wants Wei Wuxian to admit he was "wrong" for saving Lan Wangji (no longer including Jin Zixuan) at the indoctrination camp "at the expense of the Jiang Clan" and for rescuing the Wen remnants at the expense of continuing to play the role of Jiang Cheng's subordinate. He wants Wei Wuxian to accept blame for the deaths of Jiang Cheng's parents and Jiang Yanli. He wants Wei Wuxian to be filled with regret and say that Jiang Cheng was "right all along" and that Wei Wuxian, himself, is not good enough to have deserved the love and respect from those around him particularly since Jiang Cheng feels like that love and respect was "stolen" from him. What Jiang Cheng wants is for Wei Wuxian to finally be "second place" to him, whether by successfully killing the man like he failed to the first time or by prying the words from the newly-resurrected Wei Wuxian's mouth via guilting and torture, and that was just never gonna happen, as Wen Ning so helpfully points out.

You mentioned how you knew you’d be attached to Izzy Hands if you were to watch ofmd, and because of that I feel that someone’s gotta tell you that both Con O’Neill (Izzy’s actor) and Taika Waititi (Blackbeard’s actor) compared their characters’ relationship/dynamic to Judas and Jesus (specifically in Jesus Christ Superstar. And they’re SO right). So. Do with that information as you will

Oooo for a prompt: Jiang Cheng raises a-Yuan thinking he’s actually Wei Wuxian’s biological child
Anon, you really said “I will cater to Letter’s interests” with this ask.
When Jiang Cheng finds the boy, he’s still grieving. He hasn’t stopped grieving since they received the first terrible news of Jin Zixuan’s demise. He grieves, he rages, he cries and carries on. A circle reminiscent of the schedule followed by a boy burned out by loss.
He grieves when he pulls a-Yuan from the ash. The child is barely breathing, malnourished too, wrapped in an adult’s cloak.
Wei Wuxian, he thinks, and presses the boy close to his neck, hides his face when he hurries down a troubled path where his most trusted disciples wait. They do not question him, they ask nothing at all but how quickly they need to return home.
Fast, is his reply. He’s seventeen again, running across the countryside on bloody feet to get his brother home. He saved Wei Wuxian then, he saves a-Yuan now.
The healer asks him how old the child is and Jiang Cheng has no answer for her. He’s so very small, sleeping off his fever under her care. She thinks he is around two, perhaps a little younger, but they have no way of knowing. Everyone who would, is dead.
Like the rest of Jiang Cheng’s family, all of them, but Jin Ling. His nephew is a healthy baby, chubby fat and dressed in only the softest of silks. He’s loud too, crying out for parents he doesn’t have anymore, in everything but this, the exact opposite of a-Yuan.
Jiang Cheng hadn’t questioned a-Yuan’s presence in the Burial Mounds the first time round, too caught up in all his other anger. Maybe he should’ve stopped fighting with his brother to ask. Why would Wei Wuxian give everything up for the Wen if the Wen wasn’t his?
The following weeks agree with him. A-Yuan grows into Wei Wuxian’s smile, no longer asks for the dead as his memories disappear. Jiang Cheng wonders if his brows resemble Wen Chao, Wen Qing or her brother, any of them. Jiang Cheng has no clear memory of them he cared to keep, but he knows Wei Wuxian, hears him in the way a-Yuan phrases his question.
He knows his brother’s child.
Perhaps the other parent doesn’t matter, maybe the story there is as sad and terrible as every other.
His sister and her husband are dead, his brother is gone, his nephews are orphans both.
Jiang Cheng is tired of losing family.
The clan registry burned when the Wen attacked them. Jiang Yanli painstakingly wrote a new one when they rebuilt. He stares at her handwriting as he adds a-Yuan’s name to it. No one will ever look at this document, see that his sister put Wei Wuxian down as their brother, see that Jiang Cheng never struck him from the books, that he adds his son.
The Yiling Patriarch is dead, his legacy is cruel and terrible and it perished in the Burial Mounds.
A-Yuan is here.
The maids call him Jiang-gongzi, Xiao Yuan, Yuan-er, and a hundred different little endearments they’re quick to adapt for Jin Ling too when Jiang Cheng is allowed to take him to Lotus Pier.
A-Yuan loves his little cousin, and maybe if Jiang Cheng raises them together like this from the start just right, they’ll never break apart.
Only a handful of disciples know just where Jiang Cheng picked his nephew up, everyone else believes him a deceased cousin’s son.
It is for the best.
There’s no place in the world for Wei Wuxian’s son after all, none at all, unless he remains Jiang Cheng’s nephew first.

so uh do you think the recombinants have human rights? or are we just going to see the rda doing human experiments cause they are “only” copies of people
Heya anon. Interesting question to get out of the blue.
I don't see why recoms would have human rights. Not only are they not "human" and giving them rights would be a slippery slope to giving the Na'vi rights, they are the explicit commercial creation of a private company.
The genre of the Avatar franchsie can be confusing at times due to the optimistic vibes, pretty setting and time spent on exploration with the natives of Pandora, but the human side is extremely rooted in cyberpunk.
The RDA is a company.
Imagine if we discovered a sentient race of underwater aliens on Europa, and the people interracting with them were from SpaceX, on a SpaceX agenda, and not NASA, ESA or JAXA. Worse, since the RDA is all about mining, imagine they were kitted out and working under an executive of Glencore! Shipped by SpaceX...
IDK if the world of Avatar has more info in novelisations, games or comics reguarding the state of laws in space, but I very much think that if people like Quaritch signed a contract to allow the use of his DNA and recorded memories, and the RDA creates recombinants off their own tech at their own price, for their own security team... Then no court of justice has any say in that.
I doubt the RDA's HR department on Pandora will be reporting anything back to earth if the recoms have complaints... By the way, canonically if your cryopod malfunctions during an interstellar trip with the RDA, you die, because they don't keep enough resources on board to let human live the length of the trip, so good luck having any humane law at your back.
On the other hand, I don't understand what you mean by human experiments.
The RDA is not interested in that, and they don't seem to be needed. From the films, we know they want rocks and oil. That's it. They do mining and hunting. They aren't set on Pandora to do human experiments.
A1 already has the ability to use avatars, and those avatars are created on earth and mature over the course of the flight. So clearly the creation of hybrid bodies has been going on for decades (since Grace has been at this for a long while!) and there's no hint of it being human experimentation.
Again: recombinants aren't human. That's what makes them so fascinating. They are a mostly Na'vi and human chimera, with a memory imprint that forces a personality on them. But they can't live natural lives on earth, don't have any legal identity (Quaritch and his men are DEAD. They died. They were clearly labeled KIA so the RDA could make the recom contract kick in).
Even their qualia, the way they experience consciousness, is not human. Humans aren't that size, that build, with tails and swivelling ears. They may remember being a human, but they aren't anymore.
Which creates enormous room for angst and fantastic reasons to rebel and join the locals. The memories of humanity are used as a leash. IDK if they are even copies of people. Q is clearly missing memories outside of what was recorded for him.
I don't think there will be "experiments" on them. I don't see the point. Q & co. are also not used in that way in the story of A2. They are fearsome but easy to dispatch villains for a setting that doesn't tolerate humans anymore.
I don't think that recoms being "remade" would be an experiment or a torture. I think it would be the cold calculations of a cyberpunk mega-corp.
But don't forget there is no process to speed this along. So either the company already made several copies of each recoms, or they'll need years to make new ones. They're also very expensive, so who knows.
I really enjoy the idea of Q going rogue precisely because he's given a new crew of the same recoms to work with and the inhumanity of it finally breaks him. He'd be bound to realise there's more of him in storage and nothing he can do will be meaningful in that way.

I love Jiang Cheng and I hope you agree. The most tragic thing about yunmeng siblings is that JC and WWX really love each other the whole time… I like to think they can fix it someday

Someday perhaps....in the meantime, I bet he's loving having dogs run around lotus pier. As a WWX deterrent of course. No therapeutic reasons at all.

honestly it amazed him how small you were, especially compared to him, but still had the audacity to fuss over things more than he ever could.
he made the mistake of taking you to midnite’s bar with him for his meeting with the owner, and now he was suffering the consequences.
they weren’t even ten minutes into the conversation when the sound of bickering noises caught their attention. he wasn’t sure why was he even surprised when he saw the scene: you threatening a literal demon, who stood at least a feet taller than you, with your finger accusingly pointing at its direction, yelling like there is no tomorrow.
poor dude literally had to grab you from where you were standing before the creature hurt you in any way and he had to intervene to make a far worse mess.
his fingers were digging into the soft flesh of your forearm, guiding back to his car, your legs struggling to keep up with his long strides. you snatched your arm from his grasp with a dramatic scoff, moving to stand next to him and mimicking his body which was leaning back to door of the vehicle.
he lit up a cigarette, hoping to calm his nerves down before your voice broke the silence.
“i was doing fine. you didn’t have to ruin it,” annoyance dripping from your tone.
he didn’t even reply, blowing smoke from his lips, his eyes focused on nothing in particular. he would hope you would lose interest at his ignorance. but well, it never stopped you before.
“i could take him out. her. it. whatever,” you waved your hand in the air, crossing your arms in front of your chest, like a spoiled kid who got interrupted playing her favorite game.
“sure you could,” his tone flat, which earned a jab to his chest before he pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes for a second, tossing the cigarette on the ground. “goddamn child,” you heard him mutter under his breath, his body circling the car to the drivers side. “get in the car,” he half yelled, not wishing to hear anything further.
of course you complied, but not before slamming the door with a force which shook the entire vehicle.

Ahhh trans JC + that thing about how you can shape your body via cultivation. JC growing increasingly sharper and broader and more masculine as his golden core grows and strengthens and he ages, and it’s not even abnormal because cultivation is FREQUENTLY used to align your body to your goals…
Yessss! Cheekbones so sharp they can cut a man! (WWX knows; he sliced his heart open on them readily enough, and oh, JC's face as an adult is not any softer on WWX's poor feelings)
Shoulders! (shouldeeerrsss. JC was always sneaking looks at WWX's back then, as well made sense, because WWX was a legit exemplar of handsomeness and cultivation, and his seem. hum. nice! well done JC!)((WWX twisting his neck to look at JC after he's returned. JC looks so much more confident now. Not "at ease" ofc - it's JC, he's still working himself up to an ulcer - but like he has no doubt in his place in the world and what is in his power to achieve. WWX tripping on his own robes.)
JC always had more presence than the room he actually took up, that's one of the reasons people followed him during Sunshot - WWX was more likeable and more powerful, but it was JC vowing he'd get revenge for his parents and his sect built up again that people believed in - but it's like his body finally caught up with it.
WWX is very normal about this.
JC's pleased with himself and how he is today, yeah. At least until the truth about the GC comes out.

*sighing* ... It's time for me to unburden myself to a kindred soul. I end up seeing so many meta posts about jgy and his various situations or justifications for whatever he did... And I'm like... Did you all forget that he burned women alive? Along with any servants or children that were in the brothel with them? Did you forget that he mass raped women by proxy and forced them to have sex with a corpse before killing them too? Did you forget that he happily killed children by setting fierce corpses on them and iirc "blamed" He Su for "making" him do it? Are we seriously going to sit here and debate about "was he really the villain for killing nmj" and "do we really have evidence that he killed jin rusong?" or "no one appreciates him for the watchtowers" ?? He would have gladly killed all the juniors too including Jin Ling? Is everyone really buying that he felt bad about that? I also just...you can tell how much those sex workers don't count as people in so many readers' eyes, they don't even think about those murders when explaining why jgy is their morally grey fave. HE'S JUST BAD, GUYS HE'S JUST BAD. I'm so tired. 😢
I think you and @jiangwanyinscatmom would get along swimmingly.
