• at first dallas thought it was just an excuse to get away from dates. until after it happened four times in a row, he realized

• you had invited him over to your house, your parents were gone for the weekend, leaving you alone. and you wanted some company, and dallas was the best at that.

• you led him inside, immediately calling for your cat, clicking your tongue as you checked around the house. dallas looked at you like you were insane

• “what are ya doin’?”

• “oh! i want you to meet jazzy!”

• “right…”

• the little brown tabby cat came rushing down the stairs, immediately curling herself between your legs as she purred softly. you scooped her up, showing her to dallas

• he was hesitant at first. was she gonna bite? was he gonna hurt her in accident? he liked you, and he didn’t wanna ruin your relationship by saying something dumb about you cat. but still, that didn’t stop hik from expressing himself

• “she’s… a cat” • “indeed she is, dal” • “yeahhh i don’t really like cats, man”

• he was sure you were about to pass out then and there

• “what do you mean you don’t like cats?” • “i mean i don’t like em, dirty, sly, cats”

• you nearly cried

• over time, as you and dallas became closer and closer, eventually dating, he tried to like jazzy. he really tried. but there was something about him that the tabby cat just didn’t like

• “your damn cat chewed on my shoes again!” • “maybe if you were nicer to her…” • “what was that?” • “nothing!”

• dal eventually started spending the night at your house. and he loved sleeping next to you, but so did jazzy

• it would be late, 2am, and dallas would be woken up to the little brown cat walking along his chest and scratching his head

• it took everything in him not to shove her off the bed

• over time, jazzy began to warm up to him. instead is hissing every time she saw him, she would simply stare.

• once she even meowed at him, causing his heart to tug just a little

• and after a year into your relationship, dallas could finally tolerate your cat

• if you had to work a late shift, he would come over and feed her for you

• while you were in the bathroom, he would scratch her chin

• and rarely, if you fell asleep, he would pick her up and coo at her soft enough that you couldn’t hear. you did

• you would be sitting at your desk studying for a test as dallas paced around you room. he liked hanging out with you, but he got bored quick. and he hated just waiting around.

• “stop pacing, dal, you’re stressing me out” • “m’sorry, i’m just bored” • “go play with jaz, i’m sure she wants a friend” • “i’m not gonna play with that damn cat. she kept me up all last night”

• thoroughly believed cats at witches, and that’s part of why he hated them so much

• but as he watched jazzy slowly step into the room, meowing softly at you as your worked, he thought, they might not be so bad after all.

• he was proven wrong when jazzy pissed on his shirt he has thrown in the floor later that night

• you two might be sitting out the couch watching a movie and you had already fallen asleep on his shoulder. he would keep quite as you snored softly.

• a little while later jazzy jumped on the couch next to him. he totally flinched.

• “what do you want cat”

• he huffed, turning back to the tv. but the rest of the time he say, jazzy would come up and rub against his arm, meowing at him.

• he sighed, glad you were asleep, unable to see as he began to pet the cat, her eventually crawling into his lap to lay next to you head.

• he would have thrown the cat off him if it wasn’t for you sleeping.

• at least that’s what he told himself

• long story short, dallas still hates cats, but he can tolerate jazzy <3

This is what I meant in my last post abt this version of Macavity trying very hard to be simultaneously more and less provocative btw.

It’s kind of fascinating-- there's a big chunk of Cats that does little to no storytelling beyond 'check out this cool character who’s part of the Jellicle club' and yet Macavity is one of the few songs that’s actually trying to tell the audience something vital to the plot: Demeter knows Macavity.

It's important that the audience learns this-- not only that there is a story between those two, but also what that story is. If Cats doesn't establish that connection, then it'll just look like Macavity is snatching up random ensemble cats during his and Munk's fight. This song establishes the connection between Dem and Mac, and gives the audience a big fat reason why Mac is targeting her specifically: their relationship was sexual. You cannot escape from the fact that their relationship was sexual in 98 Macavity.

And this gives Mac a motive! It characterizes him as a villain, it establishes why he's even interrupting the Ball in the first place, it establishes why he targets Demeter, & it establishes why Demeter specifically seems terrified of him. Without the context this song provides, Demeter might as well just be a random ensemble cat who gets the responsibility of yelling 'Macavity' for each scare.

See: Macavity and Demeter had a sexual (maybe romantic) relationship > Macavity wants to get Demeter back > Macavity interrupts the Ball and takes Deuteronomy (and attempts to take her along the way) > Misto has to bring back Deuteronomy. This song sets up a big chunk of what Cats' plot/conflict is.

But tswifts bomba/dem Frankenstein (Demetaylurina if u will) is very obviously not in a relationship with Macavity; she works for him. He's her boss. She's not even a Jellicle, there's no reason we need the relationship between these two cats to be explained to the audience. The stage play certainly doesn’t bother establishing the relationship between Macavity and the 2-3 henchcats that help him kidnap Deut!

Their relationship doesn't matter, Demetaylurina herself doesn't really matter either, all she does is drug the cats (which is its own weird thing, plot-wise) and she only does like 2% of that job, most of it is M&R and the rigged moon prop.

And then you can say 'well she doesn’t matter to the plot but her relationship with Macavity can still be explored, not everything has to be plot-relevant’ which is true, there are big chunks of Cats that’s pretty much just exploration of non-plot-relevant cats' relationships. But the song doesn't explore their relationship. Because their relationship in the movie pretty clearly isn't sexual, and yet Demetaylurina still acts and sings in this provocative manner that (tries to) mirror the stage version. Like I said in the other post, the choreo that slings it in the audience's face that Demeter (and Bomba) had a sexual relationship with Macavity is gone, so their relationship is comparatively pretty sexless. But there's still this sexuality to the song that tswift just tries to jam in there with her voice and sort-of dancing that serves absolutely no storytelling purpose.

All of the sexuality in regular Macavity is very pointed-- both Bomba and Demeter have this sexual tension between themselves & Macavity, which is impressive bc he’s not even present. That 'there’s no one like Macavity' line where Demeter smacks a hand on her inner hip is an excellent example-- and it loses all of its oomph in tswifts version.

By all definitions, if they wanted to rework Bomba/Dem to being Macavity's henchcat instead of his former lover, then the song should've reflected that-- make it a menacing jazzy song like the original M&R!

But they don’t do that. The song is still sexual, or at least it tries to be: instead of the very potent, very pointed sexual aspect between these two characters in the stage play, you get Demetaylurina just kind of putting off sexiness into the world with no target and no goal, it’s just. there. It doesn't have any storytelling aspect to it and frankly it feels like the bargain version of most Demeters and Bombas-- and that's not even a dig at tswift, because again Dem and Bomba actresses are working with this actual story, dynamic, and history that they're given to act out to the audience as vividly as they can. Meanwhile tswift is just. Being sexy. Her character has no background, no meaning, no dynamics with other characters, no history. She’s just there. Being passively sexy.

Except it’s not passive because you can tell she’s trying very hard to come off that way.

It's just… odd and janky.

The Beat Generation 1992 Beat Poetry / Jazz / Spoken Word / Vocalese / Comedy

The much publicized, ridiculed, and parodied Beat Generation, which started sometime in the late 1940s and was eventually subsumed by the hippie and countercultural movements of the 60s, did not end up producing too much music of its own, but the whole lifestyle and aesthetic that it promoted, along with its iconic literary works from the holy trinity of Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Burroughs, is integral to the history of popular music as we know it. The beatniks themselves worshipped jazz cats like Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker, and plenty of musicians, such as Bob Dylan and The Beatles, drew lots of inspiration from the Beat Generation. Plus, another major figure of the movement, Neal Cassady, was also in The Merry Pranksters, a roving group of folks who ended up bridging the chronological gap between beatniks and hippies, and toured the continental US in a bus while giving out free LSD to people, which was chronicled in Tom Wolfe's famous Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test book; and members of the Grateful Dead were in those same Merry Pranksters too.

So what we have here is less a triple-disc compilation of music from the Rhino label—although there is definitely music on it—and more a full-on audio documentation of what made the Beat Generation what it was, which in addition to *some* music, includes a lot of Beat poetry, interviews, news items, and mini-audio documentaries too. Here, you get 197 minutes of Beat material, a solid chunk of which is provided by that aforementioned holy trinity themselves, plus kindred spirits like controversial comedic legend Lenny Bruce, whose righteous battle for the freedom to publicly say whatever he wanted without any repercussion made him a Beat ally, even if he was not in any way a beatnik himself.

But for the music that *is* on here, we've got some of the bebop jazz tunes that the beatniks went totally nuts for, including Charlie Parker's terrific "Cosmic Rays," which is one of many songs that demonstrate just what a deft saxophonist Parker really was. And we've got something from Tom Waits too, who arrived way too late to be a beatnik himself, but was nevertheless fond of the movement, and wound up showing his appreciation with his uniquely gravelly voice on "Jack and Neal / California, Here I Come," in which Jack is Jack Kerouac and Neal is Neal Cassady.

So if you're looking for over three hours of music, you're not gonna find it on this release, but if you want something of a definitive audio document of one of the most important and influential subcultures to have ever been formed in American history, without which where we would be now as a culture and society is completely unknowable, you should definitely check this thing out.

And by the way, there's an acid jazzy mid-90s trip hop tune by a German guy named Jazz Con Bazz called "Wayz of Life" that I've been listening to for years now that samples one of the audio documentary tracks that appears on this release. Really blew my fucking mind when I heard the sample too; like, I felt like Wee-Bey in that famous scene from The Wire that's since been turned into one of the greatest gifs of all time. Holy shit! 🤯

I can not believe I'm using Tumblr of all websites for a class at a real-life university that I pay thousands of dollars to every few months.

Hello!! I'm Ares, I use he/him pronouns, and I'm a 19-year-old second-year Junior. I'm majoring in computer programming & applications, but if you have no idea what that is, you can just think of me as a computer science major who can't do basic math and call it a day.

Outside of classes, I am a computer technology intern at the Innovation Hub and the Creative Chair for DevLUp @ FSU, and I'm an active member of the 2099 Comic Book Club, the Pride Student Union, Seminole Innovators, the Disabled Student Union, and the ASLC Film Committee. That is to say, I do a lot of things all of the time, and I am very tired.

Before I discuss my interests and successes, let me make sure you don't set the bar too high and discuss one of my failures. To briefly call back to my earlier "joke" about not being able to do basic math, I failed Calculus 2 three separate times at three separate colleges, which I think is honestly impressive. For this reason, I switched majors from meteorology to computer programming & applications, because meteorology required me to actually pass Calculus 2, and that clearly was not happening.

But! Within one semester, I remembered that I like computers so much more than I like most other things. So now, I've returned to the state I was in in high school: an autistic man who sits at his computer for several hours at a time until people want to call wellness checks on him. Except this time, instead of playing video games until I develop permanent nerve damage (oops), I spend my time making video games! My current game development project is a survival role-playing game with a working title of Mundane Mundane, which is a thinly-veiled metaphor for being transgender in modern society. I've helped with a few others for game jams, but I've only been properly developing games for about a year, so I don't have much to show for it at all!

as promised here in MY Insane Cats Fandom Story. formatting this greentext style bc it’d be fucking unreadable as a big block of text - be me - cats the musical fan, dumb teenager - in groupchat with several other cats the musical fans - our number one group activity is keeping up with this one fanfic, “the silver protector and me” - it’s 70k words of munkustrap x the author’s self insert oc - from the moment you pick TPSAM up it’s not great from a writing perspective but the further you read the more unhinged the plotlines get - everyone can shapeshift into normal cats with no explanation. the main character is french n everybody else is incredibly aroused by it. all the girl cats frequently body shame the main character for being too skinny. the love interest is abusive towards his son because he thinks he might be gay. there’s a bunch of sex slavery just like an insane amount - this isn’t really that alarming to us. obviously the author might sort of be goin through it but at the end of the day it’s just a fanfic - however. there is also an author’s note at the end of every chapter where the author (we’ll call her jazzie after her self insert) shares wayyyyy too much about her life - we learn a bunch through these. she’s british. she has a terrible ex. she loves the guy who’s she’s currently dating but he hates cats the musical. she’s been to cats the musical 115 times. she has a 7 year old son - she also links her instagram + tumblr. maybe this was a dick move of us but being teenagers we check them out - jazzie’s instagram is pretty normal other than the fact that everyone but her looks miserable in every photo - whatever. they might just have resting bitch face - jazzie’s tumblr is CRAZY - we discover that she’s been in several bona fide large scale scandals - you name it jazzie has posted it. most recently she’s gotten in trouble for comparing the traditional body modification of various unrelated african cultures to, and I quote, “dumb bimbos getting too much plastic surgery” - she’s also fighting on a daily basis with people who hate her fanfic over its various Issues, including one heated debate with an actual sex trafficking survivor - about a week after we start checking in on jazzie’s tumblr, she posts that she’s going to be taking a break n moving all her mutuals into a discord server - this server will also house the live drafting of new chapters of TPSAM - being idiot teenagers we decide we HAVE to get into this server to watch TPSAM get drafted live. its siren song is far too strong for morals to assuage us - in an attempt to gain mutualhood before jazzie leaves for good, I create my cishetsona - her name is abi n she’s a 17 year old girl living in indiana who loves only two things: cats the musical and her homophobic 23 year old fiancée who works in his dad’s garage - she’s a closet tuggoffelees shipper as well but she openly ships mistoffellees/victoria (which is for some reason the default straight ship in cats even though victoria canonically hooks up with plato. no I’m not sure why either) - abi begins participating in the cats the musical fandom by posting annoyingly heterosexual content - within one (1) week, this has gotten her into jazzie’s discord - a few of my co conspirators have played the same trick. there’s maybe four or five of us in there - inside this discord we are exposed to fandom drama we never even knew existed - jazzie frequently complains to the server about her current boyfriend. she hates how much he dislikes cats the musical, n hates even more that he’s always telling her to pay more attention to their kids (plural) instead of writing cats the musical sex slave fic - do you remember how I only mentioned the 7 year old son earlier. this is the first mention we hear of another kid - the next day something terrible happens

- we MEET the other kid - he is 12 years old n he is a SERVER MODERATOR - this means he’s been fully privy to the active drafts of his mother’s super explicit cats the musical sex slave fanfic - apparently nobody on the server was aware this moderator was jazzie’s son either, because her genuine mutuals seem just as shocked as we do - at this point one of the real mutuals snaps n tells jazzie that while she loves TPSAM, kids shouldn’t be anywhere near it. a good half of the server enthusiastically agrees with this - jazzie takes this as a personal attack on her parenting abilities n the server fucking implodes - a couple days later the whole thing gets taken offline - abi gets a message from jazzie apologizing for the whole situation n thanking her for not attacking her like everyone else - I don’t have the energy left to tell her abi isn’t real, so abi says “thank you. it’s no problem” - there is brief discussion of reporting jazzie to some kind of authority, but we decide that’ll probably only make it worse for her kids, so we don’t - we figure she got the message to not involve her preteen son in the drafting of her sex slave fanfiction when all of her friends left her - TPSAM has not updated since. I really hope it’s because jazzie stopped neglecting her kids for it - it’s for the best she stopped. I hope her family is doing better now - but frankly I’m a bit sad we’ll never get lines like “can I cum in you?” “oui!” ever again

You were a very famous model meanwhile heesung was a popular singer in the boy group EHNYPEN, you both knew of each other but have not met or talked ever.

Though one day while you were going to a shooting you were going to be paired with a kpop idol you had no clue who it was yet. Your casting manager didn’t tell you who it was. Clearly she had no idea who it was either it was a general idea that it was a male kpop idol. You walked into the studio and took you to your changing room you were having a photo shoot for Prada. After you where all ready you got out side and to your surprise it was Ni-ki from enhypen

“Ni-ki: y/n is it?”

“Y/n: hi yes I’m y/n your Ni-ki from enhypen right??”

“Ni-ki: yes ma’am that is me”

After the photo shoot you and him exchanged numbers after that you went back to you apartment. You open to the door to see your cat Oreo patiently waiting for you at the door. You shut the door and picked him up in your arms and walked to your room you set him down on the bed and along with the rest of your stuff and went to go start the shower.

After being 30 min in the shower you get out and went straight to your phone. You checked to phone to see

“1 missed call from ni-ki”

And one text message saying

“Ni-Ki: hey Y/n I was hosting a party tonight and was curious if you wanted to join me?”

I then quickly typed out a reply

“Y/n: I’d love to go what time and where?”

He then shared me an unknown address and time. The party was at 10:00pm untill 3:00am

I quickly went to my closest and got a black tank top and some jeans and quickly paired them with some heals a belt and a jacket. Only to find out I had one hour left to do my make up and hair for the party. I quickly then go do that and got in my car to drive to this party… soon I’ve finally made it I step inside the mansion and went to the bar to grab a drink looking around to see if I spotted ni-ki yet and no I didn’t but there seemed to be plenty of others. The lighting were flashing the music was loud the people were drinking smoking and partying hard after getting my drink someone tapped my shoulder it was ni-ki.

“Ni-ki: hey y/n how are you?”

“Y/n: I’m good how are you?”

Ni-ki: I’m good

after chatting for a lil we brings up something surprising that sounds important

“Ni-ki: oh y/n! There’s someone who I’d think would love to meet you, here let’s go”

He takes your hand as he guides you to the back of the club room opening a secret door. As he opens like bright purple and blue led lights flash and some jazzy music playing in the background as he led you inside he let go of your hand as you walk into the room you see a lot of famous celebrities ni-ki had left to go somewhere and you didn’t catch where he was going as he left someone else came up to you it was heesung.

“Heesung: y/n right?”

“Y/n: yeah that’s me”

“Heesung: I’m heesung let me buy you a drink”

you both walk over to the private bar as you start chatting it up a bit you realize your both really alike naturally he invited you over to his house. You reluctantly say yes and after the few drink you both had he had gotten you in his car and drove over to his house once you got there he opens the door and leads you into the kitchen with his hand on your waist guiding you as you sat down he opens a bottle of wine

“Heesung: so y/n what do like to do in your free time”

he said pouring a generous amount of wine into my glass

“Y/n: well not much like to shop and we’ll work out but I don’t really have any hobbies i usually sit at home and watch dramas all day”

“Heesung: ah I see…well I can change that you know you may have someone you wanna take care of now hm? Princess?”

“Y/n: wait what do you mean???”

He got closer besides you. And whispered in you ear

“Heesung: come on baby I know you know what I mean”

Let me show you the world of my hell hole of a playlist

Obviously I need to share the good word of the Sonic Vocal Tracks like dude i will make you sit and listen to all of them if i have to but my personal favorites are “This Machine” from Sonic Heroes, “Find Your Flame” and “Im Here” from Sonic Frontiers, “Live & Learn” from Sonic Adventure 2 and “I Am… All of Me” from Shadow the Hedgehog. They are a little more metal/rock ish sorry if my music terms are off but yeah you will be screaming you will be so pumped

Also literally just any track from any Lupin III media is so fucking good omfg. So Jazzy and upbeat you will feel so radical. My favorite intros are from Part 2 and also “Superhero” is a transcending experience I lives in my head rent free. Yuhi Ohno’s work is honestly just so good just skip immediately to his entire discography

This album is energetic, pulling jazzy electronic influences from the pop side and the synth filters straight out of a good trap song. There are times when the band breaks away from your typical catchy dance tunes to throw down some truly surprising house beats, but it’s blended in together spectacularly. There is an effortless fusion of the two I find especially exciting, which takes genres in fun unexplored directions. It’s hard to even describe what’s going on here— check it out if you’re a fan of Jpop that pushes boundaries into places you aren’t expecting. Favorite Track: Cat Planet

SONGS OF THE MONTH

Came out in April but I first heard it in May:

"Funkfest" by grouptherapy. Don't even really know how to describe this track? Some of this track feels like being sucked into a cult and skateboarding pussy first into it. This song feels mischievous. Like it's too cool for you but is insecure about that. (Tinashe did a song with them called "Disco Pantz" which has an almost opposite vibe but like... check it out too.)

 "Give it To Me" by Miguel. Not something I expected from Miguel. I just like the contrast of his like contrite crooning with the dirtier guitar and the darker beats. Really feels liek begging. Would like the lines about being fertile... to stop existing tho.

"Where do we Go?" by Okamoto's. Summery, indie Jrock sound.

"Float (Coco & Breezy Remix)" by Janelle Monae. I felt like the original version of this song was kinda resting on Janelle's laurels. Like it wasn't bad but it wasn't pushing boundaries in a way I expect of Janelle. This remix isn't pushing boundaries either but it's so fun that I kinda forgive its roteness.

Not from April and I didn't even hear it for the first time in May but FUCK IT WE BALL! "Nihil" by lynch.. Jrock but the guitars kinda remind me of what was going in in FCPREMIX by The Fall of Troy. If you think it'll be identical to that song, you'll be disappointed but like... if you know what I'm talking about, please check out this song. Vocals are literally the opposite of that song tho, lol.

"Giving Me" by Jazzy. Dynamic and pulsing dance track. Symmetrik Remix is also pretty good, if you want a more beat heavy, fastpaced song. Do not know enough EDM terms to describe either version properly. Feel like the Symmetrik Remix would be labeled a ~club remix tho.

May Releases:

“Lipstick Lover” by Janelle Monae. Not her most experimental work but it’s still just so comforting to hear her again!! Yes, I’m including two of her songs here, if only to shout out that music video 😳

All the bonus tracks on the ten year anniversary album of Random Access Memories by Daft Punk. I don't know how much non-Daft Punk fans will get out of them, since they're largely demos and outtakes but god I WEPT. "Horizon" feels like floating amongst the stars. "Touch (2021 Epilogue)" feels like the ascension TO the stars. Even the vocoder test track feels funky and sublime.

"Little Things" by Jorja Smith feels sultry and addictive, though it might wear out its welcome in its repetition but if you reach when the song breaks down and collapses into itself, I think you might get a pleasant surprise.

The Used released a new album, it's kinda more of the same but the lyrics are... not good. That said I enjoyed it, it's fun. "Dancing with a Brick Wall" is kinda a stand out to me?? "Dopamine" has their older, more theatrical vibe though.

Meanwhile, I wasn't a fan of Kesha's new album but "Only Love Can Save Us Now" and "Something to Believe In" feel like they should be in like... powerful, kinda dark magical girl AMVs.

"Cat & Mouse" by Blackswan. This list needed some kpop on it, tbh. The beginning isn't great but then when it gets into the swing of it... SONG OF THE SUMMER! It's trying to capitalize on Cupid by Fifty Fifty which was just trying to be a kpop Say So but IMO this is my fave of the three songs, lol. Even with the embarrassing "Skrr" bit.

So my gf was a warrior cats kid, I wasn’t. Not because I didn’t think the books were good but I only read classical literature when I was young. I wasn’t trained in romantic poetry by age ten and had read hunchback of Notre Dame, Dracula, Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights, Call of the wild, and Oliver Twist by that age as well. Safe to say I kinda missed out on reading ANY childrens literature outside of Alice in Wonderland, which is something I’m still obsessed with to this day. But I have started listening to warriors via an audio book on YouTube (since all my reading is taken up by school this is how I make time for non school related literature) and honestly? It’s very entertaining. I see why people like it so much, I’m slowly making my own oc’s this shit is fun as hell. Didn’t think in my final semester of my bachelor’s program I’d get into warriors but here we are! And if u wanna know my favs so far, Lionheart, Yellowfang, and of course the silliest tabby ever, Firepaw. I like Bluestar a lot as well but I wanna see more from her. Also Ravenpaw is cute.
