The thing about those last panels in lost days is that it doesn't even bother me that much when people bring it up to psychologically dissect Talia and Jason as characters.

What does upset me is when people bring it up from comedy purposes as a form to "hold it over Damian's head" because Jason slept with Talia, it's mostly humiliating to TALIA'S character and I loathe it.

Bring up that Talia has fucked up relationships with the men in her life, or that Jason was craving approval and love in a very sensitive part of his life, or how emotionally driven he is when chosing his partner (vengeance or otherwise)

The whole thing being an assault thing is a different topic, but reading lost days it's clearly meant that Judd wanted that event to symbolize Jason becoming a "man", because come on Lost Days is a coming of age story even if it's deeply fucked up.

jason dealing with and angsting over his inappropriate crushes over the years.

first, it's on bruce when jason is still underage. he's so ashamed, because the man adopted him and gave him a better life, but despite that he still jerks himself off thinking about batman fucking him in his robin costume.

second, it's on dick when he finally meets the first robin. he tries to hide it as much as possible, though he's sure dick notices. jason's feelings are a twist of jealousy, anger, hero worship, and longing and he knows he's not as good at concealing them as he'd like to believe.

third, it’s on talia while she is supporting him and sponsoring his training trip around the world. she is beautiful, elegant, clever, and lethal. she’s also bruce’s ex and much older and more experienced than him. it always makes him a little shy in her presence.

fourth, it's on tim after he comes back to life and holds a knife to tim's throat and then beats him up. even while he's angry, he still thinks his successor is hot and it'd be so easy to press him against the wall and do whatever he wants. (he doesn't do it of course, those are just his fantasies.)

fifth, it’s on steph when he eventually gets to know her. he realizes they have much in common and genuinely enjoys spending time with her. one time during their occasional team-up he has a wild urge to kiss her while they’re still high on adrenaline and covered in blood and grime from their fight. it’d be less nerve-racking if he didn’t know steph is already taken.

You know, I'm kind of shocked I've never seen any "Damian is secretly Jason's bio kid" aus or theories, like sure the timing is a little off? But honestly you don't have to fudge the numbers all that bad to make it work, and that kind of logistics never stops any of the other secret birth parent stuff lol

Idk I think there could be something very compelling in the messy dynamic of

Talia: protector, guide, mentor, (frequently my best and only) friend, mother of my child

And

Jason: my husband's child (his Frankenstein's monster) whom I tried to heal and turn from the path of pure vengence, ...friend(?), ...ally(?), father of my child

Like that is a really interesting place to start developing a co-parenting relationship from! Not to mention all the fascinating wrenches that could throw in all their other adjacent relationships, including of course with Damian himself

I'd also be super interested in seeing their kid be Damian's younger sibling bc it'd be such a great opportunity to explore how Talia would handle protecting and raising this new kid knowing what she knows now about the challenges that Damian had to face due to his family. Also would be fascinating to foil Bruce and Jason against each other with how Jason would react to being a father and getting to see their different parenting styles

(also as always i just enjoy scenarios in which Talia gets to have someone who's genuinely loyal to her with no ulterior motives)

Im not saying that Bruce and Talia is always unhealthy and I’m not saying that Talia herself is the most evil character ever.

I’m just saying that she shouldn’t be dating Jason.

She met Jason when he was approximately 16 and had just come back to life, he was incredibly unwell (possibly comatose for quite a while) and she was his primary care taker. Once he had been dunked in the pit and started training with the league, he was still indebted to her for like saving him or something.

For most of the time that they canonically spent together, he was underage and incredibly vulnerable.

He has been convinced that everyone from his old life didn’t care for him, she was probably the only stable adult presence in his life at the time.

None of those things are the base of a healthy romantic relationship (with the power dynamics and pedophilia) but she was also the mother of his brother. As in, she had sex with his father, and that would be weird even without the other stuff.

Im not saying that they couldn’t have had any other friendly relationship, but any romantic/sexual relationship she had with him during the time he was with the league would be weird and make her a bad person.

I can really enjoy Talia as a character, but her being written dating any of the batkids is weird.

Everything else is the same: unrelated to business (retired), a degree in fancy-shmancy field that absolutely doesn't pay but gives you endless topics to talk about during soirées Talia takes him, a glimpse of what her life could be without Bruce or the League (Jason making pastries from scratch, them having a cat together - they walk her in the park on weekends! beach vacations, shared family budget which is why Talia's renting a condo in Metropolis and not living in one of the mansions or penthouses she does own...)

Sincerely, I think it could even work in the current comics. Jason is pretty directionless recently, right? Consider this: Talia al Ghul solo, and Jason as a recurring background character.

Jaytalia is something I really think I should explore more. I do, however, need to read more Talia, for that.

Anyway... I don't think Lost Days was exactly good Talia writing, and I understand wanting to ignore those last panels BUT I also think that the reason why people have the knee jerk reaction to Jaytalia because of purity culture and motherification. All this to say that, much like a lot of other things, although it's not exactly good in canon, it compels me.

I love how neither of them are exactly in their right mind, how messy it is, and, of course, how they are unwell about Bruce there <3 it was about him, and I love that for them...

But also consider: years later, Jason and Talia meeting again, and they are in a better mental place, and there's a spark there, and maybe they've been friends and/or allies through the years, and now it's not about Bruce anymore. It's about two people who get along, share values, respect each other (both when it comes to skill, but also values when they do disagree etc), and match each other in many ways. Honestly, I think they'd both deserve it.

Now, onto Brujaytalia...

I love adding Bruce to the mix because 1) his jealousy that Jason is sleeping with his ex who he is over and doesn't think about anymore ✌️; 2) his jealousy that Talia is sleeping with his kind of son who he most definitely doesn't want to fuck ☺️.

He would haaaaaate that, but consider that he's also immensely - ah - intrigued. He wants to be in their bed, he wants to be in their life.

And Talia and Jason would have a good time lmao

When Jason bursts into frustrated, angry tears for the third time in as many hours, Talia knows something has to be done.

He makes no sound. If Talia were not looking at him, if she had not seen the tears well in his eyes before he dug the heels of his hands into them, she would not even know he was crying.

Her heart aches.

It is just the two of them, save for their personal guard. Damian had left for his lessons a little less than half an hour ago. Jason and Talia had remained seated at the dining table. She had finished her food some time ago, but had stayed at the table anyway, reading through reports while Jason continued to pick at his.

The way his plate has been shoved aside, the food on it only half eaten… it isn’t difficult to guess what has upset him this time.

Talia sets aside her reports. They will keep for a while yet. Jason’s pain will not—or, rather, should not. She has allowed it to go on long enough as it is.

She comes to stand by his chair, resting her hand between his shoulder blades. Jason flinches—and then leans into her hand. He has never turned from her touch, her comfort.

She can feel him shaking. “Come here, pet,” she murmurs as she draws him nearer, guiding his head to press against her stomach. His hands curl into the hem of her shirt.

“I’m sorry.” Jason’s voice cracks under the weight of his tears. “I’m—I’m trying, but I just—I can’t—”

Talia combs her fingers through his hair. “I know, pet.” The gentle voice she uses is one few have ever heard. “I’m sorry.”

Jason reels back. He looks at her with wide eyes. “For what? You… This isn’t your fault, T. You didn’t—you didn’t do anything.”

“That is precisely the problem, pet,” she says, cupping his face, catching his tears on her thumbs. “You have been suffering—and I have done nothing but stand by and allow it.”

Talia had believed that he had simply needed time.

She had been wrong.

She will not make the same mistake again.

“Talk to me, pet. Tell me what’s wrong so we might put an end to it, together.”

“I… I don’t...” He averts his eye, his lip caught between his teeth. His shoulders hunch toward his ears.

“Be honest.” The authority in her voice does not take away from its gentleness. “The only way you can upset me, pet, is by withholding something.”

Talia does not rush Jason into speaking. She strokes his cheeks with her thumbs—prepared to wait as long as it takes for him to gather his words.

After a few moments, Jason rewards her patience. “I don’t feel safe,” he confesses, so softly she almost doesn’t hear him. “I know— I know I am,” he hastens to add, tipping his head back again to look at her. She aches at the earnesty in his face. “But… no matter how hard I try… I just can’t… I can’t make myself believe it.”

She brushes a curl from his forehead.

Talia isn’t surprised. His bath in the Lazarus Pit restored to him his mind as it was before he died. Anything after was lost; only flickers of memory left behind. A blessing in many ways, perhaps, but it also means the peace that he found with her has vanished.

Talia has spent two weeks hoping that, perhaps, he would find peace again—that his instincts would remember what his mind did not.

A foolish hope. Talia should have fixed this before it got to this point. That she didn’t… A mistake. But one which can be fixed. There is an age-old remedy for soothing stressed and anxious omegas—one Talia is more than willing to provide, if Jason is willing.

“Do you trust me, Jason?”

Jason blinks at her. “With my life.”

His immediate honesty makes a smile tug at her mouth.

“Thank you,” she says, and then kneels beside his chair. Her hands settle on his thighs. “It is not your life I am asking for. Do you trust me?” she repeats.

Jason swallows. He looks down at her with wide eyes. His pupils eclipse his irises; only a thin corona of blue-green ringing them. “I…” He stops, wets his lips. And then he lays his hand over hers. “I trust you with everything, my lady. My life… m-my body, included.”

My lady. That’s new.

Talia likes it.

She leaves one hand on his thigh. The other cups his jaw, tugging him forward until she can place the briefest, chastest of kisses to his mouth. His breath hitches.“Then allow me to take care of you,” she whispers against his lips.

He shivers, pressing into her hand. “You… You’ve done nothin’ but take care of me, T,” he whispers. Guilt sours his scent. Talia wishes to cover it with her own—so she does, smoothing her wrist down his side.

“I am your alpha. It is my duty—my honor—to care for you. If you need it, I will provide—happily, gladly. You will allow me to do so.”

It is both order and question; her tone tilting ever so slightly at the end.

A flush steals over Jason’s face, a breadth away from her favorite shade of pink. “Yes, my lady.”

Acceptance and answer both.

“Good.” She kisses him again—briefly, fleetingly, smiling when he chases her—and her hands slip from her skin as she rises to her feet. “Come with me to my den, pet.”

Summary:

TimCass is hindered by the fact I don't know a lot of their canon interactions, but I love the idea of Cass exploring what it means to date. Reconciling the way she reads people's body language and knows what they want from her into something she becomes more comfortable with (with certain people). I think a trial run of dating with Tim would be fun and I can see Tim respecting Cass's fighting abilities. I could also take this in a toxic way where they both believe themselves devoted to Batman's mission and forcing themselves together because on paper it makes sense. I might have stronger feelings on this when I read Cass's villain arc 🤔

TimSteph surprised me! I geniunely didn't expect to like it in the comics, but found them to be sweet and flawed teenagers. I like how Tim feels like he has to take care of Steph and how Steph wants to prove herself. I like the messiness of Steph not knowing Robin was Tim at first and the complicated feelings of their break up. I honestly wouldn't mind if after a break they did their own growing up and they ended back up together (maybe not in canon though, bc I feel like canon ruins a lot of good relationships) It's not a ship I have strong feelings for but I enjoy it

BruJay is delicious! I particularly love the unrequited variety, whether it's Jay having complicated feelings for Bruce and Bruce rejecting him, or if it's Bruce who wants Jason sexually and Jason wants to be Bruce's son but will take whatever attention he can get. Or when they both don't want a sexual relationship but think that's what the other wants from them so they give in. I don't actively seek it out, but I will eagerly devour it when it's there

JayTalia suffers from the fact I haven't read much Talia 😔 (Pretty sure that Batman: Odyssey makes up over half of what I've read for her 😬) I find others' posts about them interesting but don't know enough to form an opinion
