Shooting in Maryland high school leaves one dead
Last week, just two days after the shooting at Apalachee High School, a shooting took place at Joppatowne High School, in Joppatowne, Maryland. 15-year-old Warren Curtis Grant was shot once in one of the school’s bathrooms. Steelers defeat Falcons
But after hitting a couple of passes to running back Jaylen Warren and tight end Pat Freiermuth to pick up a first down, Fields rolled to his left and threw back across the field to the right side to find George Pickens for a 23-yard gain to set Boswell up for his final field goal to trim the lead to 10-9 at the half. “We gave up a touchdown at the end of the half, but our offense got a field…

[ad_1] Getty Images Pittsburgh Steelers wideout George Pickens has become the subject of criticism this week after fans called out his lack of effort during Pittsburgh's 30-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He showed no urgency to take down Julian Blackmon, who recorded an interception off of Mitch Trubisky in the fourth quarter, and didn't block for teammate Jaylen Warren on what could have been a touchdown. On Tuesday, Pickens addressed his failure to block for his teammate, explaining his decision to let up on his assignment. "I was trying to prevent a Tank Dell situation," Pickens said, via The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.Dell, the rookie phenom of the Houston Texans, suffered a fractured fibula earlier this month after getting folded awkwardly while blocking on a run play at the goal line. "I didn't want to get injured," Pickens said. "When you stay in and block somebody, you can get run on very easily." Pickens tried to point to the fact that everyone on the team is disappointed with the Steelers being on a three-game losing streak, not just him."Everybody is mad when you lose," Pickens said. "A lot of media guys want to say it's my frustrations, but it's losing. I'm pretty sure everyone is mad, not just me."Pickens has caught 52 passes for 814 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games played this season. While he's on track to surpass his rookie-season numbers, Pickens has not experienced the kind of explosion some anticipated he would in 2023. The Steelers, who are now 7-7 and on the outside looking in at the playoff picture, saw their playoff chances drop from 80% to under 5% during this losing streak, per SportsLine. Pittsburgh has scored 18 or fewer points in five straight games, and it recorded just 216 yards of total offense vs. Indianapolis. That number marked a season low. Running backs shine early, defense shines late as Steelers slip past Green Bay with 23-19 victory
Packers: Welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to Lambeau Field next Sunday. If you want to watch.

Steelers Crush Falcons 24-0 in Preseason Finale: Unstoppable Offense and Dominant Defense Seal Perfect Record
Tumblr media
The Pittsburgh Steelers dominated the Atlanta Falcons from start to finish, securing an unblemished preseason record with a resounding 24-0 victory at Mercedes Benz Stadium. The Falcons, opting to rest their starters, couldn't thwart the Steelers' relentless assault. The Steelers wasted no time making their presence felt. They received the ball first, and Kenny Pickett led the charge. On a crucial third and five, Pickett launched a 33-yard pass to Diontae Johnson along the sidelines. A series of well-executed plays, including a spectacular toe-tap catch by George Pickens, culminated in a one-yard touchdown run by Najee Harris, giving the Steelers an early 7-0 lead. Defensively, the Steelers were equally relentless. The Falcons' initial drive crumbled, thanks to Elandon Roberts' tackle for loss and T.J. Watts' swift sack on Taylor Heinike. The Steelers' offense continued its rampage in the second drive. Calvin Austin's 21-yard punt return positioned them deep in the Falcons' territory, and Jaylen Warren surged into the endzone, extending the lead to 14-0. The Falcons struggled to gain momentum, hampered by penalties and a staunch Steelers defense. Even as Mitch Trubisky replaced Pickett, the Steelers' control over the game persisted. A Demone Harris sack forced the Falcons into a field goal attempt, which Chris Boswell successfully converted, pushing the lead to 17-0. With their winning momentum, the Steelers integrated more reserves, demonstrating their depth. Rookie Keeanu Benton and Markus Golden contributed with crucial tackles, stifling the Falcons' attempts to regain ground. The Steelers maintained their methodical approach in the subsequent drive, with Anthony McFarland powering the ground game. A Gunner Olszewski pass interference call paved the way for McFarland's second touchdown of the game, solidifying the Steelers' dominance at 24-0. Despite the Falcons' efforts to recover, including a long reception by Keilahn Harris, their struggles persisted. A combination of strong Steelers defense and offensive hiccups thwarted their chances of narrowing the gap. Mason Rudolph led the Steelers' third-team offense, showcasing the team's depth. Even as the game wound down, the Steelers refused to relent. A fumble recovery by Kenny Robinson ensured the Falcons remained scoreless. Ultimately, the Steelers' comprehensive performance culminated in a perfect preseason record, capping off their efforts with a decisive 24-0 triumph. The team's cohesive efforts on both ends of the field underscored their readiness for the regular season. Read the full article
