A fifteen-year-old, Harshvardhan Joshi from Vasai near Mumbai often dreamt about climbing the hills. Working in a startup of Computer Solutions, he met a few doctors who would often invite him on treks around the city. Soon, the views from the top became his sanctity and climbing his dream. As time passed, the boy grew into a young adult enrolled in an engineering college where he found back his happiness when he discovered a trek in Uttarakhand. That was the starting point of it all which pushed Harsh to realize his long lost passion. As the taste of trekking rekindled, it took the shape of endless love for the ranging shadowy mountains.

Shivangi Pathak First Indian Mountaineer
Tumblr media
An Indian mountaineer, hailing from Hisar, Haryana, Shivangi Pathak is India's youngest mountaineer to have climbed Mt. Everest from the Nepal side. The year 2018 had seen two of the bravest feats of this young girl, making her a very famous sports personality of India. In May 2018, she climbed the world's highest peak, Mt. Everest from the Nepal side. The same year in September she climbed Mt. Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia. A year later, at the age of 17, Pathak successfully climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.
At the Beginning
Born in August 2002, Shivangi comes from the city of Hisar, Haryana. Her father is a teacher in a Government School, while her mother works in a bank. Pathak from a younger age has drawn inspiration from Arunima Sinha, the first-ever Indian mountain climber to have climbed Everest with a prosthetic leg.
She has also drawn courage and inspiration from MalavathPoorna, another Indian mountain climber who climbed Everest from the Tibet side in 2014. Poorna was the youngest mountaineer to have summited Everest at the mere age of 13.
Growing up in a conservative north Indian town, Pathak has had to face immense challenges to gain recognition amongst the sports personalities of India. In an interview, Pathak claims that her only aim is to conquer the greatest mountains in the world. From a very young age, Pathak has been training herself at Delhi's Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering. Always having the ambition of becoming a legendary mountaineer Pathak has participated in several high-altitude training programs in Kashmir's glacier regions.
Achievements
One of India's youngest mountain climber, Shivangi has shown uninhibited courage to the whole world with the success of this formidable task. At the age of 16, this girl proved her bravado by climbing the world's highest peak, the majestic Mt. Everest. The same year saw another heroic stride of this young girl when she successfully summited Mt. Elbrus, the highest Russian mountain peak.
After these feisty achievements, there was no stopping to the courage and ambition of this Indian sportsperson. She continued to walk on the path of her dreams and conquered Mt. Kilimanjaro, the very next year in 2019. Of all these climbs of valor, reaching the summit of Everest has been the highest peak in her journey and won her accolades from the entire nation. Pathak was reported to have completed her journey in three days via the Marangu route. She started her journey from July 21 and completed her mission successfully by July 24 in the year of 2018. She was congratulated by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on this "stupendous accomplishment."
Struggles
Born in a small town and a country where women have never been encouraged to enter the male-dominated arena of Sports, Shivangi Pathak like any other female sportsperson has had to undergo a lot of struggle and obstacles in her path. Despite efforts and achievements, women in India have often been suppressed in the field of sports. In this environment, an icon like Pathak not only makes the nation proud but is a motivation for hundreds of women to take up aspirations as challenging as mountaineering.
In an interview, she says that with more women achieving such feats, the world will stop undervaluing a woman's potential. She says that as more women become famous Indian sports personalities the world will learn to respect their potential. Very soon women going for practice runs and jogging in their pair of shorts will soon not be an eyesore anymore.
Matching up to her male counterparts in mountaineering was Shivangi's target for quite some time. With the record of climbing Everest from the Nepal side at the young age of 16, she holds the title of "The Eagle of Mountain". She has dedicated and trained herself in mountaineering from a very young age, a time when dreams are limitless. Shivangi is one such woman who is living her dream with the completion of every magical mission and motivating hundreds of women to believe that there is no mountain or no height that they should fear based on gender stereotype.
After completing her training in basic and advanced mountaineering at Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering, Delhi, she has taken part in several climbing programs and training activities that have made her reach her peak of glory.
Looking Forward
Regarded as a famous Indian sportspersonnow, the bright young woman, Shivangi has the dreams to conquer every peak in the world. Her strength and determination keep her motivated in the pursuit of challenges.
Having already proven her chops by climbing the Everest, Elbrus, and Kilimanjaro, Shivangi has established that the highest mountains in the world couldn't stop her. Now, she'll surely be setting sights on other majestic climbs in the future, making India prouder of her accomplishments.
Pathak who has become a firebrand in the field of mountain climbing has miles to go and a lot of hurdles to conquer.

The teen climber from Haryana's Hisar district reached the top of the mountain on Thursday last week, completing her over one-month trekking, which she began from the Nepal side on April 6.
After completing her successful expedition, Pathak is now back in Nepal's capital Kathmandu with the message for women.
Tumblr media
"They (women) can achieve anything if they desire. If I can make it, if Arunima Sinha (first Indian amputee to climb Mt Everest) can summit the Mount Everest then they can do anything," she told ANI.
Talking about her motivation to climb the 8,848-metre peak, Pathak credits Arunima Sinha.
"When I was 15 years old, I had gone to a seminar with my mother and I watched a biopic on Arunima Sinha there. At that time, I was carefree and after watching the biopic I felt like, if she is able to make it then I also can do it," Pathak said, who will turn 17 in two months.
To realise this, Pathak joined Delhi's Jawahar Institute of Mountain and completed her courses in mountaineering. For preparations, she also participated in different high-altitude training programmes in Kashmir's glacier.
Now after climbing the world's highest peak, Pathak now wants to focus on her studies and do the mountaineering alongside.
"I just have passed my intermediate exams with 70 per cent marks. The education is most important for now and there will be nothing, without education there will be no use of the counted expeditions which I make. So, I will continue my studies along with mountaineering," said Pathak, the young mountaineer.

Review of the Basic Skiing Course at JIM & WS- Ski Out Your Heart
Tumblr media
Why your feet be stayed till reaching mountains? Don't satisfy your heart only with the blissful views of nature. I thought of gliding through the snow sheets of mountains. Skiing course led my dream of exploring nature bit closer. This brought me to the website doors of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM & WS).
Tumblr media
En-route Ski Location About the Institute The institute was established on 25th October 1983. Although homed in Aru, Pahalgam is now addressed to the mountain and nature enthusiasts. The best thing about mountaineering institutes is that they give you all the reasons to love the mother nature in its beautiful ways. JIM & WS is one such step ways to positivity. They teach you to share a hand of connectivity to mountains, to rivers, to snows and to the environment. About Basic Skiing Course at JIM & WS Ski is a sport full of technicality and determination. You cannot directly run down the slopes with this eye-catchy equipment much easily. It needs time, concentration and dedication. It is a long term process and requires good stamina. Basic Skiing Course (BSC) lasts for 15 days which includes the day of arrival and departure with the farewell ceremony. In these days we get the ski equipment, we learn about them, we learn to be friends with them and then we learn the basic techniques/positions of moving upwards and downwards with the ski. And the lesson starts with falling. There are several ways or positions in which one can move with the ski. In BSC, we learn about a few, easy moving ways with ski on slopes of snow. Skiing is typical, adventure isn't. Start your baby steps in mountain adventure sports through adventure course. Check my review of adventure course from NIM.
Tumblr media
Vibrant Winter Scenes of Gulmarg Also, we get all the detailed theoretical knowledge on below topics- Ski and Ski equipmentInjuries and Casualties during Ski and how to prevent themDo's and don'ts of the mountain and snow-bound areasNatural Disaster of the mountain and snow-bound region with their causes and rescue techniques. But do remember, the instructors will not let your enthusiasm down, they keep boosting you with the source of informative, documentary movies of such activities. I am sure this motivates you the next morning to perform better on the ground. It does not end here, you need to undergo the tests (viva, written and practical) and participate in a compulsory group competition to check on what all learnt. Trainers assure the farewell with the satisfaction of your learning. Though skiing is a sport and you can never learn a sportfully. It is always new learning with a new day, a new place. You can never conquer it in a span of a few days. It gets better with practice. Thus the training of skiing has been divided into three level batches with Basic, Intermediate and Advance. This is to confirm that you enter the next levels only after perfectly learning and qualifying the earlier ones. This assures your proper learning on techniques and saves you from unwanted injuries and accidents. Each level course is of 15 days. How to apply for the course?? The course runs in several batches every year during the winter season. You can easily apply for the course through the official website of the institute. It is very user friendly and also you can contact the officials. The whole team of the institute is very co-operative. You can know about the batch schedules and course details through the sources, before applying. There are two sets of forms for admission which includes an application form and medical form. The medical form requires all the details truly and sincerely examined. Make sure that you are physically fit to undergo the course in an extremely cold, snowbound region. Fees of the Course: The fee of the whole course was INR 10,100/- (might change with time). The fee includes- Lodging at the campus or hotel for 15 daysHealthy, nutritious food for the whole course periodAll the required personal ski equipment for the course session (which are actually very expensive)Required training during the course through all meansFirst-aid, if required during the course span. Also, you can always assure the quality of training you acquire from the institute. You get a chance to learn from great ski instructors of the country, including the armed, military and NDRF forces of India.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A still during the daily practice session.
Tumblr media
Still during practice session at JIM & WS Secret tip: You might not only learn the ski lessons but impressive tales from the life experiences of your instructors. Do make time to sit with your favourite instructor. They are not just the training staffs but unsung heroes too! Why to go for Skiing Course? This question is a must as you might go with a different mindset and come back with different, happened with me too. Better to ask this before going and knowing well about the course. Ski is not just as we see in adorable videos of people sloping down with ease and speed. It is way more compassionate. For me, it was another way of meditation. Achieving a sense of soul fulfilment when you reach success without falling or learn from your every failure. Because falling isn't bad until and unless you learn from your every fall. Ski is a must if you admire snow, winter, adventure, hard work, patience and your self-worth. What bad to learn a technical sport of winter which is a good dream to live on. Not only learning, but it also gives you the chance of experiencing the awestruck views of winter in mountains and snowfalls for long 15 days. Believe me, it does not look less than heaven with white pretty snow everywhere you see. Also, warm yourself enough with your dreams because it's colder than you can imagine. But, let me assure you, the activity of learning ski won't let you feel the cold.
Tumblr media
A still during the daily practice session. My list of reasons to go for it might continue but then what will be left to look out new for you? We should always leave a slight surprise for wherever we go. This keeps us amazed, excited and gives us our ways of finding newness. Ratings: This becomes the hardest part of reviewing for me, though the important one. My sense of experiences will give it 4*/5*. Take the most out of your course, so that you can come back with a sense of great self-satisfaction. In the end, that is what is required most. Also do not forget to share your experiences of skiing course with us. We would love to compete with your slalom speed!
